  • Why does it take so long to update appleTV?

I made the u fortunate mistake of clicking on update AppleTV now and here I am two hours after the update started and it is still not done. On top I am only now getting close to the end of step one? Should Apple not provide an estimate of the time it will require to update so that I could have done this at night...rather than sit here and wait till the dammed software is updated? It spoiled my entire evening! Why does the update of Apple TV take so long????? Luckily my AppleTV is hardwired to my computer, imagine if this was not so....

You just happened to run into an bug produced by your Apple TV and your Internet connection. Even though they don't want you to switch off they device disconnect your Apple TV from your power chord. When it restarts you can use your Apple TV like before. Often a day later the updates is done in less than 10 minutes. I happened to run into this problem a few times since I have my Apple TV 3

  • Why does it take so long to update song information?

If you try and update the song details, especially adding artwork, it can sometimes take a few seconds to process each song. Is there a way to avoid this?

If you try and update the song details, especially
adding artwork, it can sometimes take a few seconds
    to process each song.
Yes. This is because it has to write the song details into the file's tag. For most changes, especially small ones, this can be quite fast. For larger changes, like adding album art, it can sometimes require iTunes to rewrite the entire file. This takes time, and the main limitation is the speed of the drive and such.
Is there a way to avoid this?
Nope. It's just the way things work. It does use a method called "padding" in the tags which makes it a bit faster for writing small changes, but large changes will usually exceed the padding amount and require the whole file to be rewritten.
Best bet for speeding it up is to optimize the drive. Defrag it if it needs it, get a faster hard drive, use SATA instead of the older EIDE/PATA drives, etc.

  • Why does it take so long to update my iphone?

Every time i try and update my iphone 3 it takes like 3 hours and then my internet is timed out can any one advise me on this?

Yes. The reason for this is when you update your iPhone iTunes automatically makes a backup of all your settings. To try and cut down on this long backup time switch your phone on airplane mode as this will make iTunes not backup your network settings which is what is taking up so much time.

  • Why does it take so long to update and then tell me after it's done that it failed? 5 hours.

I processed the latest update and after 5 hours, it said "done." When I unplugged, though, I was informed that it failed to backup. I plugged it back in and the process started from scratch. Why wouldn't it inform me that it wasn't working early on? Frustrated per the usual.

  • Why does it take so long to update iTunes? I'm at 505 hours right now.

I was just wondering, if anyone else had the same problem as I did because it is driving me CRAZY! So, in order to sync songs from my iTunes to my iPod touch I need to have the newest version of iTunes. Now, heres the fun part, when I go and update itunes it says the remaining time to download is usually about "505 hours" or more. Its so annoying because I can't update songs on my iPod. Can someone PLEASE help!

  • Why does it take so long to update my garmin app on my iphone?

The app store said there is a Garmin update.  It has been "downloading" for the past 3 hours on my phone which is plugged in to keep powered.
I thought it might be faster to download to my PC, but it is telling me the remaining time is 10 hours.  Anyone have a similar problem?

Cancel, update on your computer, then sync your phone. Garmin owns Navigon & issued the same update for Navigon. The update took a few minutes, at most, on my 4S. Something is wrong with your connection.

  • Why does it take so long to back up whilst im updating from 4.3.5 to 5.0?

Why does it take so long to back up whilst im updating from 4.3.5 to 5.0?
its been on for ages and its not even a quarter of the way backed up!

The Brave New World of AC wireless networking.. where the reality falls far short of the hype.
Unfortunately in an actual transfer situation, the signal to noise of wireless (RSSI figure drops dramatically), It simply uses AC as a link speed but speed is always renegotiated during an actual file transfer.. to some sustainable level. I suspect that level is not AC wireless but N.
It does matter if you run older devices.. nothing with a or b or g wireless should be running in your house. Even n wireless may cause issues.. try turning everything else off and see if you get speed lift.
As far as the time required for a clean up, is this a first backup as they always take a significantly longer time. Once you are doing regular incrementals the time is usually very short.

  • Why Does IT Take SOOOOO Long To Get New Shows And Podcast Updates!!!!!

Why Does IT Take SOOOOO Long To Get New Shows And Podcast Updates!!!!! It seems to me that it takes and unusually long time for TV shows to be uploaded to itunes and it takes FOREVER (VH1) to get Podcast updates. Also I notice that Vh1's Best Week Ever is a hit or miss deal. Some weeks it's on iTunes and some weeks it's not......why?
    Paul

The iTunes store simply provides a link to the originating podcast server.
When the podcast owner puts a new episode up, it is available.

  • TS1702 why does it take so long for the updates to download on my ipad?

why does it take so long to for the undated Apps to download??

First shut down the text app and clear both
cache and data and do a normal power cycle. Follow that with  a system cache clear and then restart the text app again and restore your preferred settings for the app.

  • Why does it take a long time to back up my iPhone?

My iPhone is taking forever to backup. Whenever I pluf it in and it starts to back up it seems to stay on the screen in my iTunes and the bar doesn't move at all. I need help. What should I do?

Extraordinary long backups are caused by an error when an app (or apps) was installed or updated, particularly if you have ever installed or updated using the App Store on the device itself rather than iTunes. Even if you were never aware that there was a problem, they can arise and will cause problems with the backup process. Maybe you did have a problem during an update or install. Maybe the update stalled, or the App Store crashed. These issues are very likely what have been causing your long backups and you didn't even know it. During the backup process these errors cause it to drag and pause for a very long time before it gets moving again. From your view, you just see a normal backup that is taking hours, and undoubtedly annoying you to no end. On the inside, iTunes is trying desperately to get past a roadblock that it doesn't know where it came from.

  • Why does it take so long to download a movie rental from I tunes. I want to then transfer to my Ipad

Why does it take so long to download a movie rental from itunes. I am doing this to transfer to ipad. This is a question.

I have noticed this here on several machines in our office, all running Leopard.
I just did a test and subscribed to the same 16.8MB podcast on a machine running 10.4.11 and another running 10.5.8.
The Tiger raced straight through and downloaded at a constant rate, taking about 15 seconds.
The Leopard raced until 1.2MB downloaded and then slowed to a crawl, going up 0.1MB every 10 or 15 seconds.
Very strange. I've noticed the Leopards were having similar problems doing downloads through the Software Update utility.
I compared downloading an update from Support Downloads in Safari and there is no problem.
So (for me) this issue is applying to Leopard rather than Tiger, and only to downloads via SU and ITunes, not regular http downloads through a browser.

  • What's wrong with this Forum? Why does Adobe take so long to reply to posts?!

What's wrong with this Forum? Why does Adobe take so long to reply to posts?!
This is actually "specific" to this Photoshop Forum.
I typically get responses back from other Adobe forum promptly.
    Chime in.

The Adobe engineering folks DO duck in here from time to time - and that's a BLESSING!  Please name any other big company where you get to interact with the engineers AT ALL.  I can't.  But I suspect the engineers actually have a lot oof real work to do, and their time here is necessarily limited.
Your comments are more along the line of "I pay a huge amount, for that I expect better support".  These are very valid comments.  But reality is different from what we may expect, and this forum is not the place to expect Adobe support participation AT ALL.  In fact, the technical support people at Adobe often direct users to come here (something I've always found amusing).
At the higher level, Adobe may simply not be spending enough on support for literally millions of users.  Is is greed or smart business to try to minimize support cost?  That's up for individuals to decide.
I suggest you write a snail-mail letter to the Adobe president if you're not getting the support you need.

  • Why does it take so long to recognize my camera?

I have a Canon EOS Rebel XS.  When I plug it in, iPhoto jumps up and is in front on the screen, as it should, but then it takes 8 or 10 minutes for it to be identified and booted up into the sidebar. I just watch the wheels turn and the red light flicker, but it takes EIGHT or MORE minutes to be recognized!! And, sometimes the camera times itself out. Here is my question . . . WHY WHY WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG TO BE RECOGNIZED?!?!?!!? I could deal with 30 seconds, but this is just ridiculous. Is this a Canon issue? A driver issue? Heaven forbid, an Apple issue?  Does anybody have any insight on this or the same kind of experience?
    Mike

Next time you import reformat the card with the Camera - remember this will erase the card, so make sure you've emptied it first. Oh, and the use of block capitals is very impressive. Doesn't make it look like a tantrum at all.

  • On my mac why does it take so long to send a Email with an attachment, on my mac why does it take so lone to send a Email with an attachment

on my mac why does it take so long to send a Email with an attachment, on my mac why does it take so lone to send a Email with an attachment

It depends on the size of the attachment and the speed of your internet connection.
Next time you send an email with an attachment do these two things:
In Apple Mail (I assume you are using Apple Mail), under the Window menu select Activity. Arrange the Activity window so you can see it.
Then open the separate application located in the Utilities folder called "Activity Monitor" and arrange it so you can see it at the same time as the Activity window in Mail.
In Activity Monitor program, select the tab labeled "Network." Watch the "Data sent/sec" portion. Then send your email, while watching the Mail Activity window and also the Activity Monitor program window Data sent/sec area.
You should see the mail being sent with a progress bar in the Mail Activity window and also you should be able to see how many bytes/sec or KB/sec or MB/sec your internet connection is giving you in the Activity Monitor window.
Example: my internet provider gives me about 20 Megabits per second download and 5 Megabits per second upload. To convert these to Megabytes per second (Activity Monitor shows things in bytes, not bits), simply divide by 10 (not the exact thing to do, but close enough). So I get 0.5 Megabytes per second upload speed. When I send a file that is 5 Megabytes in size, it takes about 10 seconds if I am getting the full upload bandwidth. If I am getting less than that (which sometimes happens), it will take proportionately more time. Either way, you can see what is happening with these two windows.
If your internet provider is supposed to give you, say, 5 Megabits/sec upload (0.5 Megabytes/sec), but you see only say, 5 KB/sec (=0.005 Megabytes/sec), sent in Activity Monitor, then your emails are taking a long time because you are getting only abut 1/100 the speed you should be. You might want to check with your internet provider about that.
