Why does itunes take 10 minutes to open?

randomly a couple days ago itunes decided it was going to take 10+ mins to open. i uninstalled every apple thing i had on my computer and reinstalled itunes and still didnt work. i read thro forums and people have issues with leaving blank cds in there cd/dvd drives. i did not have this problem. i have tried itunes 10.4 and 10.5 and niether work. everyone on my computer works fine. just itunes is giving me problems.

oh and my computer is a beast. so it shows 0% cpu usage and like 18$ ram usage during this problem. so its not that my computer cant handle it. oh and there is 0 music in there right now and still has issues.

  • Why does Safari take forever to open now?

For some reason Safari takes forever to open on my computer. This just started in the last week. The icon just bounces over and over until it finally stops with no triangular black arrow next to it. When I click on it again (after the initial bouncing) it slowly opens my home page. After reading all the other posts that might help my situation, I've reset Safari, checked for duplicate fonts, checked my proxies, thrown out Safari icons, etc.. Nothing seems to fix the problem. Any other suggestions?

    Hi Starman
Thank you for your quick response. When I clicked the Safari icon this morning, it opened right up, so I don't know if one of the other things I tried before really did fix it or if this is just a fluke. Should I still throw out the cache in the Safari folder? I thought 'reset Safari' in the drop down menu would have already done that. Thanks for any response.

  • Why does Itunes 10.6 keep opening itself (Windows7 64 bit)

Ok so this has been driving me nuts if I open iTunes once it will continuely reopon itself and with my computer it happens within seconds after closing iTunes. I went to the specific 64 bit download page from apple for iTunes. I have uninstalled itunes then went through and removed every apple file I could find on my hard drives. After doing this tedious task I reinstalled using their "64bit Client" and the problem presists. The only work around I have found is to change itunes.exe and ituneshelper.exe to windows 7 compatiblity mode and change it to run as administrator. But now when I try to use wifi sync iTunes cannot open. I have been reading and everyone says close third party apps, but I have none. I even uninstalled my Logitech G15 software thinking that was causing the problem. I know apple have gone the way of "we are a hardware company" but I don't see why they have to create absolute garbage software like this which runs their hardware. It happened during 10.5.4 and now 10.6, and from what I can see other people have been having this issue way before me.

Refer to this discussion link.  It's the Logitech Gaming software.

  • Why does itunes also try to open in my inactive desktop (wndows7)

When I plug my apple device into my (windows 7 home) computer; ipod nano or iphone 5 (ios 7)  itunes tries to open not only on my desktop but also on a desktop in the background.  this causes interference when trying to sync my device to the computer.  I hear error sounds and when I open the other desktop I will find several messages telling me that I cant open more than one copy of itunes at a time on the computer.  I have already uninstalled and reinstalled itunes but this has not fixed the problem.  I also have tried closing the other desktop, and this does work but I am concerned about the underlying problem - that maybe something is crossed between the 2 desktops??  This has been a issue on this computer for over a year. any suggestions?

As you have pointed out, the message told you that you cannot have two copies of iTunes open at one time. So uninstalling and reinstalling will not achieve anything.

Of course, because then you do not have more than one copy of iTunes open.

It's been this way as long as I have used iTunes on two user accounts (and that's several years). My only suggestion is that you close iTunes on one user account before opening it on the other account. It's what I do.
Of course, if you so wish, you could send feedback to Apple, at http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html but I wouldn't get your hopes up if I were you.

  • Why does itunes 10.5 keep opening and how can I stop this annoying behavior?

Has anyone else had this problem and do you know of a solution?

I too have this same gamma switching/ auto contrast error in Quicktime Player and iTunes movie playback and it has been most frustrating for a while now.
For fullscreen video playback it makes both applications completely useless for professional and private use.
I can confirm that when the mouse is moved the effect disappears and the image quality returns to the original state. However this should not be happening and we need to get to the bottom of it for the benefit of others in the future.
Thanks in advance! Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Why does it take so long to import a CD onto iTunes?

Whenever I try to import CDs onto iTunes, I literally have to let it import overnight before an album is finished. I thought it might be a hardware problem, so I got an external disk drive for my laptop. It didn't make any difference. Why does iTunes take so long, and is there any way to import/rip CDs faster?

sorrry i dont buy that whole firewall issue. it just doesn't make sense. no disrespect. please I have an issue where I downloaded a cd. Published it and all of the songs except for the one that i had unchecked and another one all synced to Itunes. why did that one song (Al Green "For the Good Times" not be accepted yet it is on the interface of Itunes but by itself and the only way I can play it is if I click on the file on the right that says "untitled playlist". go figure. not to dog out your issue if someone could help me out with this problem it would be helpful. thanks mike.

  • Why does it take 15minutes for firefox to open a web page??

why does it take 15 minutes for firefox to open a web page???????

Have you tried to eliminate everything extraneous. In other words, do you experience the same delays with a simple Java program (no lookups, JNDI) that loads the drivermanager and creates a connection.
Do you have access to a traciong JVM or some program that captures run-time execution timing information? Even without the source, this will tell you the specific class::methos where time is spent so you can better determine where the delay is ocurring.

Why does iTunes freeze up for minutes at a time when modifying INFO (CMD-i) ?  My files are not corrupted after it is done like many other threads i have readed.  Sometimes it's changing the title of a movie or editing the season and episode number of a TV show ect.....

    Yup same here
I am running the latest iTunes, the latest updates to the OS and on an iMac 3.4GHz Quad core i7 with 8GB of RAM and the music stored on local HDD.
Still locks up iTunes for between 2 minutes up to 20 minutes.
    Really annoying.
If you find a fix please, please let me know, I have just been throwing hardware at it with no joy at all

  • Why does iTunes no longer open automatically when iPad is connected?

Why does iTunes no longer open automatically when iPad is connected? and iPhone as well?  Setting to "auto open" is selected, but iTunes will not open automatically. Problem seems to have begun with upgrade to Lion.

Good luck getting an answer...I posted the same question a day ago.   I can only assume it's a glitch in iTunes 10.5.

  • Why does it take iTunes along time to imports CD'S ?

    Hi
I was wondering why does it take iTunes along time to import CD's I am using iTunes version 7.02 . Does anyone else have this problem and how do I fix it?
    I would appreciate any help,

    Fifth Generation iPod   Windows XP

    Hey lizabler!
Here's a sugestion someone found to be a "workaround" for this issue with iTunes 7:
Don't leave iTunes showing the CD screen, which shows the track names and the importing progress. Click on the library, or iTunes store, as not to leave iTunes on the CD importing screen.
After doing this, your importing speed might increase to a good level once more.
    I hope that helps you.

  • Why does itunes require me to agree to the terms every time I open it

Since the last update, every time I open iTunes on my computer, I have to agree to the terms, and then also decide whether or not to share my album info.  How do I get this to stop?

Update:  I'm having the same problem using McAfee Security.  I found another discussion related to this problem, and it appears that McAfee Security program may be the root cause of the problem.  See the discussion "Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml."

  • Why does it take 40 minutes to start watching a rental on Apple TV but only seconds to start watching Netflix?

Why does it take 40 minutes to start watching a rental on Apple TV but only seconds to start watching Netflix?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
Netflix movies are adaptive and vary their quality according to your connection and can be as low as 0.5 Mbps.
But remember lower datarates = lower quality.

  • Why does it take so long to receive your itunes receipt

When you buy something on itunes why does it take so long to receive the receipt??

Because the receipt usually gathers all your purchases over the course of a week or so and combines them into one receipt. Do you really want a receipt for every app or song you download??
