Why does Lion hate my intel hd 3000?
All my native 3D games for Mac have stopped working correctly since the Lion update. I realize that Lion dropped Rosetta, therefore my PPC games (I'm looking at you Diablo...) won't work anymore. I am running 10.7.1 on a 13" macbook pro i5. I am missing textures in warcraft 3 (universal app). Games ported to Mac through Cider or run within Wine work correctly. To quote Timon from the Lion King (See what I did there?), "What's going on here?!?"

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your MacBook Pro switches automatically between both GPUs, and for normal use, you will see only the Intel HD Graphics 4000. When you use heavy applications, it will switch automatically to the NVIDIA GPU, so you don't have to worry about it.
If you want to check that your NVIDIA GPU is working, open System Preferences > Energy Saver, and disable the graphic card switching, so your Mac will use the NVIDIA GPU. Then, open > About this Mac > More Info, and you will see the NVIDIA GPU. Note that this GPU consumes more battery

Why does Lion KEEP reversing changes you make in address book and other applications without your consent and without wanting it to??? Plus address book will NOT import old address book contacts from Snow Lepoard 10.6 and keep them. This Lion OXS 7 is .. becoming very frustrating ... it will NOT keep changes made in the Address Book and it has destroyed my contacts which I only have electronically since 10.4 in my address book. I am NOT happy with this OS7 it has a lot of issues and faults. How can one stop automatic reversing of data when inputting???
Please help!
Wished I NEVER upgraded to this Lion!!!
CarmeloRelax. Your address book database is corrupted.
If you are syncing your Contacts with MobileMe or something else, disable it for now.
Backup your address book by going to File>Export>Address Book Archive.
Quit Address Book.
Open your Library by holding down the Option (alt) key while selecting the Go menu in Finder. Select Library. Navigate into your Application Support/AddressBook folder and delete the addressbook-v22.abcddb file.
Open Address Book. It will recreate the database from the raw data.
See how that works. If it is ok, then reenable syncing and see how that works. -
Why does Lion seem slower than Snow Leppard?
Why does Lion seem slower than Snow Leppard?

Why does Lion seem slower than Snow Leppard?
It's anyone's guess. Startup and shutdown as well as application launches take longer in Lion than they did in Snow Leopard on the three Macs that I "upgraded," and I also see the spinning beach ball more often than I used to. Add to that the HDMI-related crashes on my Mac mini...
Quite frankly, I have yet to see where I have gained any advantages after upgrading to Lion, and I definititely have problems that I didn't have under Snow Leopard. Of course, all of it must be my fault, as Apple would never ever relase an upgrade that was less than perfect. -
Why does Lion immediately reboot with FileVault Enabled?
I have two laptops, both with Lion installed and both are updated to the latest patches.
Here's the process I go through:
Shutdown the laptop
Do something else (take a nap, eat a sandwich, whatever)
Boot laptop
Log in
Here I get the little grey pinwheel for a while (30+ seconds, far longer that I'd expect with either a brand new Air or a 2010 MBP 15")
Experience an immediate reboot.
Profit
After that mysterious reboot, everything is fine. I went through my profile and removed every startup item and stripped everything out of my LaunchAgents folder. The problem still persisted. On a lark, I disabled FileVault. After FileVault was disabled and I rebooted, everything worked fine. I was able to shutdown my computer without fear of a double reboot.
I re-enabled FileVault to test out my assumption and, sure enough, the problem was back.
Is there something that could be causing this that I'm not aware of and my Mac is behaving oddly because of weird things I've done? I've included my logs (apologies for the length of the post).

9/10/11 9:05:36.211 PM UserEventAgent ServermgrdRegistration olI'm experiencing the same problem. I've called AppleCare repeatedly for a solutiuon, but I haven't gotten an answer yet and like you above I removed just about anything I could think of. I'd like to start considering third party apps we might have installed that maybe to blame.
Why? Because I installed a fresh copy of Lion onto a Class 10 SD card and then later I turned on full disk encryption there. I no longer experienced the problem after I booted from that card.
I also experienced a problem with full disk encryption with my 2010 MacBook Air sitting doing nothing at the encryption login screen. It spontaneously restarted three times before I turned it off. Later I moved to a 2011 model and did not see the spontaneously restarts again.
Now I'm stuck with this annoying double login. -
Why does lion use so much memory?
Why so much memory usage in Lion? Have 8GB in Lion 10.7.2 (waiting on 7.3 until I can be assured it won't hose everything) and keep running out of memory without having anything but a browser open. Currently do not have anything in background except a clipboard manager and am running Safari with 6 primarily text-based tabs--total memory usage: 2.63GB. Comparable memory usage in Snow Leopard was around 900MB. Have had memory climb up to all installed memory, though at that time I did have about twenty tabs open, some with Flash and othe multi-media, but, still, did not have comparable problems with Snow Leopard. What gives? Memory freeing and reclamation does not seem to be working efficiently either. Have used Purge and FreeMemory to some benefit, but there seems to be something deeply wrong with the pool of inactive memory. Also, either the kernal, or some other vital core piece of the OS, gets transferred out to Virtual Memory when the memory usage gets above 6GB...then machine crawls and I have to reboot. Very unhappy, not sure I should have given up my Windows 7 machines for the Mac...they screamed speedily and had none of these problems.
Very disappointed with so much about Lion. Only reason I upgraded from Snow Leopard was to get the vaunted hardware gains when running VMWare Fusion 4. Other aspects are very bad--lots of crashes, software incompatibilities, lots of beachballs, generally sluggish performance, will not start screensaver, will not sleep, will not shut down properly--have to use power button...goes on and on....then death-dealing problems with 10.7.3 update...all going to **** now that Steve Jobs has moved on to other duties? Trying to convince myself it will all work out, but not sure...trying to devise a de-migration path back to Snow Leopard that will not take me a hundred hours to implement.Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the slowdown.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab. Select All Processes from the popup menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Now select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Step 2
Launch the Console application in the same way as above, and select “kernel.log” from the file list. Post the dozen or so most recent messages in the log – the text, please, not a screenshot. If there are repeats, please post only one example of each repeated message. -
Why does Lion open everything each time I start my MacBook?
Every time I turn on my MacBook, Lion opens my calendar, email, my virtual computer, etc. Each time I shutdown, I uncheck "Reopen windows when logging back in". The next time I startup, all is well, but then the next time I shutdown, the "Reopen windows...." boxed is checked again. I never want my windows (especially my virtual computer) to open automatically. I'll open them when I need them. Why do I have to remember to uncheck the box each and every time I shut down? Isn't there a way to answer this once and leave it that way?
One more thing:
Go to (User) ~/Library/Saved Application State Folder
(user library is now hidden; to unhide, hold Option key and go to Go menu > Library will now be visible)
Select all content in that folder and move to Trash.
Right click (or Command + I) to "Get Info" window.
Unlock lock > input your admin password
Click the Locked option here:
Lock lock at bottom of window.
Doing this will lock the folder so nothing can be written to it. There haven't been any entries and I haven't noticed the Resume feature since I did that (although I still uncheck the box in the shutdown dialog....that, unfortunately, is still present). -
Why does Lion run slower than Snow Leopard?
I recently loaded Lion on my older MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core Duo, with 4 GB 677 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. and it runs slower and the it seems to be hotter and consume more battery power. Are the configuration option that can reduce the power drain?
You may have some mildly-incompatible third-party software, or you may be doing tasks that demand a lot of RAM and 4 GB is no longer enough on a system that has double the memory requirements of SL. Or could be something else entirely. Take a look at Understanding upgrade nightmares* for more information and some potential solutions.

Why does Lion not support samsung printers that ran perfectly in snow leopard
OK. Another problem with Lion. New 13 inch MacAir, lion installed, 256 gig hard drive. USB attached Samsung ML 1570 printer. Lion Mac claims it is not connected. Snow Leapard Intel Macbookpro has no problem with printer or USB cable. Lion fails another test in the real world. Why did Apple launch this OS before properly testing it?
msnnorthcott wrote:

How is Samsung's failure to produce a native-mode driver for their printer at all Apple's fault?
Ask Samsung when they're going to produce a non-PPC driver for their product. In the meantime, if you search the fora, you'll find several solutuons. -
Why does everybody hate Cisco Cloud Connect so much ??
Just upgraded from e4200v1 to the ea4500. I may be a minority but I actually find the new cloud firmware a refreshing change and I installed it by choice. The original firmware was just feeling a litte dated after years of owning linksys routers. I'll agree it is a little slow but I am sure that will be addressed. As for those saying it has been streamlined, I was able to find almost all important settings that often actually need configuring in a few minutes. As for it being full of bugs, If you want to see buggy firmware buy an asus router, I just returned one it was so bad.
While I can't figure out why one would really need to remotely access their router the ability to fire up the guest network or monitor devices on my router from my phone is really cool. I'm anxious to see what Cisco/Linksys have in mind for upcoming releases, it opens the door for so many possibilities.I am looking at the box of my EA4500 and there is nothing on it about CCC. That was added after the fact. In fact most EA4500s out there now were pre-CCC. You clearly don't have an EA4500 in your hands, there's nothing on the box talking about CCC. Cisco Connect software is not the same thing as Cisco Cloud Connect, right? Because that's what's mentioned on the box.
Try finding a 4200v2 for sale then try finding a 4500, price is nearly the same( only $10 difference) , the devices have very similar specs if not identical. So, you would save a whole $10 for last years model? Not the best plan for me.
As far as complaining about a cloud implementation for a local device? Really? You think this is a good idea? You think that this works "well"? I've asked before and I'll ask you since you want to go after me for voicing my opinion on a thread that's asking people what's wrong with the software... Would you put your home thermostat control "in the cloud" so that you could control it remotely and remove any local control option? That would be silly wouldn't it? If your access to the control ever gets interrupted for any reason, you can no longer control your device. This is what happens here.
As for software support... Cisco already isn't supporting their software. You cannot use any of their installation or update software if you are using Mac OS X Mountain Lion. At this time the OS has been available for a month and a half and Cisco doesn't appear to be doing anything to provide support for an OS that is guaranteed support according to the system requirements on the box. -
Why does Lion need to be rebooted more than Snow Leopard?
After upgrading to Lion I have noticed that I need to reboot Lion more often than Snow Leopard. Is this just me or is this something others have seen?
I think this is just you. Nevertheless I would install the 10.7.1 update if you have not yet done so. This will improve the stability of Lion somewhat. But before you do that I would reinstall Lion. You may find this will improve things quite a bit especially if you upgraded from Snow Leopard. This will not erase the drive so you won't lose any of your files.
Reinstalling Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer. -
Why does Apple hate early adapters? NO MMS for iPhone original??
Can someone explain why apple and ATT can't manage to figure out how to make MMS messaging work for a tiny, hand sized computer (aka the original iphone) when it seems like EVERY other carrier and company will give you a phone that does that from day one?
I don't believe AT&T has anything to do with it, the problem lies in the processor and needed OS adaptations on the iPhone that would have to come from Apple. Regardless of why, it isn't going to happen.

Why does CS4 hate my hard-drive?
Hi,
I'm running CS4 on OSX 10.4.11, PPC.
I have two 1TB drives in the box. The boot drive is cloned onto the second drive every 24h, so they are pretty much identical.
CS4 won't launch if I set the second drive as my primary scratch disk. I get errors saying "Disk is missing", "Cannot initialise", or words to that effect.
Does anyone have a clue why this is? I can't fathom it at all.
Both disks are formatted HFS+, Journaled.
Hope someone can help me :-)
Thanks! :-)
SBuko,
Thanks for your response but it's not that. The disk is formatted HFS+ Jourrrnaled and not case sensitive.

Why does Lion keep dropping WiFi?
I am so very frustrated with this issue. My Lion OS 10.7.3 iMac just does not seem to be able to hold a stable connection with my home wifi network. After around ten minutes, sometimes more, sometimes less, usually when I've gotten up to do something else, the wifi is lost. It stays "connected" to the network (ie the wifi bars are black) but no internet comes through. Every time this happens, I turn WiFi off and reconnect and it fixes it every time, but it is still extremely inconvenient and troublesome to have to redo this constantly. What is there to do about it? Apparently this is a huge problem with Lion right now and frankly, I don't feel like dealing with it much. I have tried a lot of the solutions posted online and byApple, like renewing the DHCP lease, resetting my keychain etc. Nothing has worked.
Any ideas?Sorry to hear, as a test copy & paste the fillowing line into Terminal app...
ping www.apple.com
Press enter, let it run & see if it lasts an hour or so.

Creative Cloud Desktop Installer - Why does it Hate Adobe Software?
It takes some real incompetence to write an installer that can't install if you already have that company's software.
So I own CS6 for Design and Web and Lightroom 4.x and have been pretty happy with it.
But in August there was a deal to try Creative Cloud for $19.99 a month. I bit on the deal and installed it.
But realize.. I don't need all the DEV Tools Nor do I need all the Video tools so $50 a month will be a deal breaking in a year. You need to create sub suites of Creative Cloud that match some of the suites you used to sell or I will abandon the cloud and I suspect like many others CS6 will become the defacto standard for years.
HOWEVER,
I may cancel my CC this month is you don't put some REAL DEVELOPERS on the install software.
It took me 2 hours, BING, GOOGLE, and uninstalling CS6, Adobe reader, Adobe Player etc to get my first Creative Cloud installed.
Today I got the message there was an update to the Creative Cloud desktop. I made the mistake of trying to update.
I now have had the CC desktop uninstalled and the installer again is gives me the fail message with no useful info it did at first install.
So I guess I have spend several hours uninstalling, cleaning, and reinstalling Adobe Software.
What IDIOT writes an installer that fails if the person actually has other software from that company installed.
What IDIOT fails to test a machine with lots of your own software installed to see if it breaks your installer
What IDIOT releases software that demands users uninstall your products every time it needs an update.
This is an Adobe failure but the entire Product Team for the CC Desktop manager application. Time to clean house and bring in the A team to fix this.
Know this.. The Third time I am put in a position to Uninstall, Clean and Reinstall CC.. IT will be Uninstall, Clean Reinstall CS6 and Cancel my CC account and block CC payments to Adobe from my Amex.
This is not new.. I can read for months and months people having this problem. Find the problem Adobe software has with Adobe software and FIX IT.
This is why the Government should have blocked the Macromedia sale. If Adobe had one decent competitor.. this is the kind of thing that would cause people to change.
Lack of competition clearly has made Adobe not care about fixing installer bugs that should he SHOW STOPPER ! CANCEL VACATIONS AND FIX. because hey where else will they go?.
Where will I go, CS6 already paid for and we are done with Adobe and down comes the giant subscription cash cow.. because the installer developers kept us from using the tools you created which are pretty good, if I don't have to keep removing them to update a utility that manages them.got it installed.
Didn't have to uninstall all the software this time..
And I got a clue to where Adobe may be having problems. I think they have an old library that has broken code for accessing profiles in Windows.
Ran the cleaner for CS6 & Creative cloud.
it then lists all the CS6 and CC Apps including CC Desktop.. I chose that but got a :
"Was cleaned with errors" message
GREAT.. even the cleaner is broke!!!
but unlike other tools tells me where the LOG file is... EXCEPT.
Instead of c:\Users\Tim.Domain\... rest of path where it was
The error lists c:\Users\Tim~1~DOM\.. rest of path.
Well \Tim~1~DOM is a left over folder from a previous profile... that is actually nearly empty. Yet Adobe's error used it not the correct profile in the Error.
So imagine that certain other calls are also using busted Profile calls. that grab simular profies vs the correct one.. BUSTED INSTALLER!!
after the Cleaner was run for only CC Desktop.. I was then able to download and install the current version from Adobe.
Code that grabs the wrong profile path is going to cause problems....
