Why does Mac Mini Server refuse to accept my Airport WPA password?

I've several Macs all able to access my ADSL net connection with no problems. However I am trying to configure a Mac Mini Server to do so but it keeps asking for the WPA password which I've correctly entered.
Any clues for a solution please?
Thanks
Peter

try again.  delete the account, and start from scratch.  pay real close attention to the password entry, including capitals and any special characters.
At one point i got real frustrated with that same issue.  to this day I do not know what the issue was.  but i ended up going into my google account from a pc, and changing the password to a new one, then readded the gmail account to the pad and all was well.  (you then need to updaye any other devices using the same g mail account)

  • Mac mini server refuses to get DHCP address from router

Everything was going along fine. But after a power outage the server goes to a 169. address when the router puts out 198. addresses. If I put a static 198. address in it sees the network but won't connect to the internet. I've flashed the router (everything else sees the router fine, 3 computers and a time capsule). I've had the hardware checked at the Apple store - it picked up an address right away. After narrowing everything down the problem has to be in the operating system. I even did a full time machine restore to the day before the storm. No luck. Anyone heard of this problem.

    Mauricette has a point.
A server function is not designed to accept a floating or dynamic IP address.  If that is the case, how do you create firewall rules that prevent those unnnecessary ports being left opened from being attacked by rogue machines in Romania and China on a hourly basis when you announce to the world that your server is available if the server IP address keep changing due to the DHCP lease change?  Yes, they do have bots that do this VERY EFFICIENTLY!
By changing the very nature of your firewall rules by working with DHCP, you are opening ports you do not know to accommodate DHCP dynamic addressing, which was the reason why your Mac Mini Server stopped working in the first place.  It's ok for a client, since a client isn't serving any files to any one right.
By using client based firewall rules, you are exposing your server to attacks and when they get through your Mini server, which they can if they are persistent, they get into your home network and then whatever file server services you have opened and unprotected at the time WILL BE copied by these people easily.
I have a client once who did just that.  She was attacked, the hacker went through her network like a rampaging bull.  They were from China.  My Synology RAID server gets this attack all the time, but I have a well establish IDS system and the Synology RAID has logs that tracks attacks.
For a server setup.  Use static IP and then build a strong firewall around it and protect it and never compromise.
Recently, I just noticed someone somehow hacked and broke my WPA-PSK AES passkey for one of my Wireless N network router.  It was not set up with a strong password though, but thankgod I had a firewall around that so my internal networks were safe. So this teaches you that if someone wants in bad, they will get in.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mac Mini (server) 2011 not accepting 4 GB

My Mac Mini Server (mid 2011) does not accept 4 GB of memory. It does boot succesfully with a 2 GB SODIMM in slot 0 or in slot 1, but when I insert 2 2GB SODIMMs in both slots, it does not boot. It does give the start up beep and then after a few secs it 'restarts' or so and beeps again. It repeats so continuously.
When I insert a 4 GB SODIMM in either of the slots, the issue is exactly the same.
I've been trying several things regarding memory placement. 2 GB in slot 0 and 4 GB in slot 1. 4 GB in slot 0 and 2 GB slot 1, 2x 2 GB in slot 0 and 1. All the same result.
Only once, it somehow did start with a 2 GB and a 4 GB SODIMM installed and then OS X did report 6 GB in total, so somewhere both slots do work. However, on next day (after power down) the same issue of continuous beeps reoccured.
I inspected both memory slots but could not see any dirt or mishap. I cleaned both slots with cleaning alchohol. I even "sanded" the contacts with a narrow piece of paper, folded to proper thickness. I've given the Mac a PRAM reset, an SMC reset. All to no avail.
Any idea what this can be caused by?
BTW, I do not know whether it is related: I also noticed that the 2 leftmost USB ports (seen from front) do not detect a keyboard when inserted in those. When the keyboard is inserted in one of the 2 rightmost ports, the kb is detected without problems.

    Kingston says it should work

I can't find where ICIDU says anything about supported computers
    http://www.icidu.com/en/memory/notebook-memory/sodimm-ddr3-1333-8gb-kit.html
Based on what you did and problem with UBS ports I suspect either a slot problem or a problem on the logic board.

  • Mac Mini server OSX 10.6.5 & Airport config: cable/modem--AEBS--Mac mini

I'm new to OSX server, and have recently had to change locations of a OSX 10.6.5 Mac Mini. I am setting it up now as a home server and need to access from outside the home. I have had a wonderfully operating AEBS for many years, but once I started trying to set-up the mac mini server, I started having problems configuring the server to play nicely with the AEBS.
Back to basics, because for what I need the AEBS is sufficient (and technically capable) of acting in concert with my mini server (from all I've read, anyway). I just cannot configure them correctly without causing problems.
    Equipment:
    AEBS w/ version 7.4.1
    Mac Mini OSX 10.6.5
    iMac OSX 10.6.5
    (2) MacBook Pros 10.6.5
    (2) iPhones IOS 4.2
I have a static (known) IP from my ISP. I have no problem with configuring the AEBS to work with everything, until I plug in the mac mini. I realize the older configuration for the prior server set-up is incorrect, but making minor adjustments for moving to a AEBS from the Cisco UC500 set-up has been greater than my technological experience.
I am versed in networking, but cannot seem to get the correct configuration, and the only thing the Apple manuals have is a 'possibility' this can be done, but no specifics I can find for controlling the AEBS settings from the mac mini when connected on the LAN port of the AEBS (that's when the problems start).
Here's where I've tried and cannot access the Serv Admin program when I connect the mac mini to the AEBS LAN port:
    (1) changed AEBS Connection sharing to Share a public ip address
(which I understand makes "advanced" "port mapping" possible)
    (2) set AEBS Internet connection to connect to router on 192.168 network
    (3) set AEBS to offer DHCP in 10.0.1 range
    (4) set AEBS capsule own address to be 10.0.1.1
PLUG in ethernet cable to Mac Mini and Time Capsule
    Activate Ethernet and deactivate Airport
    (5) set Mac Mini Server Manual ip address to 10.0.1.2
    (6) set Mac Mini Server DNS addresses to 127.0.0.1, 10.0.1.1
    (7) set Mac Mini Server / Server Admin / DNS / Zones / Machine name / IP Address = 10.0.1.2
Any advice on where to start trouble-shooting?

I think you're trying too hard...
I have zero tech or network expertise, but my Mac mini server intalled without a hitch on my home network of three other Mac desktops (Ethernet from AEBS), a MacBook, and a PC laptop, both via the AEBS wireless. The AEBS is connected to a cable modem.
I also have a static IP for my AEBS.
If you hook up your server, computers, and AEBS first and then reinstall Mac OSX Server, the server set-up will configure your network for you. You shouldn't have to set your own IPs at all...
I'm no genius at this stuff and I'm mostly playing around and experimenting, but we use file sharing, a common calendar, a family Wiki, centralized backup, and also run iTunes continuously to serve an Apple TV.
Let Apple do the work for you. See if the defaults work before tweaking it. It worked out of the box for me... Good luck.

  • Why does Mac mini not restart with pmset schedule poweron?

    After the commands
sudo pmset schedule shutdown "06/27/12 09:30:00"
    and
sudo pmset schedule poweron "06/27/12 09:55:00"
    and checking
    pmset -g sched
    I get correctly
    Scheduled power events:
    [0]  poweron at 06/27/12 09:55:00
    [1]  shutdown at 06/27/12 09:30:00
and my Mac mini is correctly switched of but it does not restart at the indicated time (I was waiting about an hour after the chosen
    time before restarting it manually).
    Here the hardware data:
    Macmini4,1
    2.4 GHz
    Boot-ROM-Version:          MM41.0042.B00
      SMC-Version (System):          1.65f2
      Seriennummer (System):          C07F505PDD6L
      Hardware-UUID:          A69C74A5-F798-580B-9159-BE3F69B7F227

Sorry this does not help. The reason ist that the Mac mini is a server, and on some sundays, their are works on the electric power net support in the building, and I have to (or wish to) shutdown the server before the electricity is switched off (usually about 8 a.m.) and I want to restart it when the works are done and the electric power net is reliable again (usually at 6 p.m.). And preferably I want to do this by ssh. The indicated times for the schedule are for test purpose only.

  • Why does mac mini power shut down when trying to use external harddrive as boot drive?

I connected a OWC Mercy Elite Pro external hard drive that has it's own power source to my mac mini. It's connected by firewire and I'm trying to use it as an external boot drive. The problem is when I have the power turned on the OWC before I turn the power on the mac mini, the mac powers up but then shuts down after about 30 seconds. However, if I wait to turn on the OWC power after the mac boots up there is no issue. Of course this defeats the purpose of using the OWC as a boot drive because it needs to be on before the mac boots up. I don't have any issues using another external hard drive as a boot drive that doesn't have a power source.

Hmmm, very strange, could there be a ground loop where the OWC drive is plugged in?
If you hold alt or option key at bootup, without the OWC drive, once the boot manager shows up connect the OWC drive, wait, does the OWC drive show up eventually as a boot choice, or what happens?

  • Why does my mac mini server keep dropping off the network?

I have Verizon FiOS and use its router/wireless to connect all macbooks, macbook pros, etc. connect to each other and the snow leopard server, which runs the printers and time machine for one of the laptops.  I'm not using any other heavy duty server apps. I just want the mac mini to stay on the network and do its job.  Invariably when I go down stairs to the mac mini and ethernet to the router to share screen, I find some update that needs to be installed, which apparently is why the mac mini has gone on strike.  I usually can see the problem when I go to connect to server and see the other macbooks, but not the mac mini.  Then after much coaxing, I'm able to get the server back on line for a few days, until the next software update.  The server is set to auto restart, but why is it balking at rejoining the network?
mac mini is running snow leopard, as are three of the four macbooks. router is an actiontec model.  wireless network is WPA2 and mac mini is ethernet connected to the router.

I've just experienced this problem when using a Marantz SR4001 receiver between my Mac Mini and HD TV. I noticed that the problem didn't happen all the time and I have found a workaround solution.
The problem is not a fault, but seems to be caused by the receiver defaulting the HDMI video properties. It's an old unit so I'm thinking that 720p is a default resolution for the receiver.
I can make the problem happen if the receiver is turned on before the TV. Seems that without an output connection the receiver is telling the mac that it expects 720p.
If I turn on the TV before the receiver, the TV seems to tell the receiver that it is expecting 1080p 25fps and the receiver obliges and the Mac retains those display properties.
So it appears that the video output device dictates the output properties back to the receiver and the receiver in turn back to the Mac. In absence of an output device the receiver defaults to 720p.
Solution: Turn on the TV before the receiver.

  • Why does it cost $450 to put 8GB into a Refurbished Mac Mini Server?

An 8GB Mac Mini Server has just posted in the refurbished area for $1199. The 4GB model refurbished goes for $749. Other than the RAM, I can find no other difference. Same processor, speed, video, etc.

Actually, I was looking at the two refurbished June 2010 models.

Don't think the 8GB model is going to move very fast unless they run out of 4s.
Love Apple's refurbs but the pricing often doesn't make sense.

  • Mac Mini Server (Announced October 20, 2009) - Does it do RAID1?

Apple announced the Mac Mini Server today for $999. It comes with two SATA hard drives, but there is no mention of RAID1. Does it do RAID1? This would be a good enough reason to get it. This could be a perfect media device - iTunes server, streaming video to TV via DVI/USB-to-HDMI adapter or DVI/optical-digital-audio_out-to-HDMI adapter, Time Machine backups, and file storage with RAID1. Without RAID1, this is just a mini sans the DVD drive.

    Dunstan Cooke wrote:
I'm interested in a RAID 1 configuration to use as a file server in our office. 500 gb will be plenty of space for us, and I will couple this with an external 1 TB drive to use as a Time Machine backup.
Given that presumably the OS will come preinstalled on one of the drives, how do you then create the mirror of this? If I reinstall the OS from an external device, does the installation provide the option to create the RAID 1 array to install to?
When you boot from the Mac OS X install DVD (included with the Mac mini) you have the option to run Disk Utility to format/erase/partition or configure Software RAID. You can then once you have created your RAID configuration proceed with the installation in to that volume.
Note: The Disk Utility program (the GUI version) does not let you partition a RAID drive, so if you have the two 500GB drives, you can only have a single 500GB volume (RAID1) or a single 1TB volume (RAID0). It is possible (but not recommended by Apple) to create two or more RAID mirrored partitions on a pair of drives via the command line. To do this in this case, would involve booting from an external drive which has Mac OS X installed on it, then you can run the Terminal to access the diskutil command line tool.

  • Does the Mac Mini Server include iLife?

    Hi,
I couldn't find a question to this anywhere...
I'm considering buying a Mac Mini Server soon.
Question - Does the Mac Mini Server include iLife?

When Apple first came out with the Mini with Snow Leopard server, even their sales support people said it came with iLife. (They no longer make that mistake.)
By using the statements of sales support and by referring to the claims on the iLife page (which you quote) -- with some insistence on my part -- I was able to get AppleCare to send me iLife for free. Worth a try. Though frankly, my time would have been better spent just buying the iLife.
