Why does magic mouse quits working constantly?

I have two Magic Mouse(s) and both worked fine from day one - early last year, and both now act up constantly with the same symptoms. I am among those who believe it has something to do with Lion. When I boot up, they don't get recognized and when I go to Mouse and search for bluetooth devices - sometimes they are found and most of the time they are not. I can reboot and sometimes get the mouse but often do not.
I know about adding the paper to help cushion the batteries, hasn't helped. I have the Advanced setting to wake computer with mouse - doesn't help. I saw some reference to booting with a control option and deleting some setting but can't find out exactly what that is all about. Love using this mouse, especially swiping, and want to make it work.
Right now I have one of those huge "ergonomic" bricks in my palm and can't stand it! Please let there be an answer.
Thanks

I think I have solved my own problem. My wife's Mac is just on the other side of the wall in the adjacent room. She came in to my room to tell me her cursor was moving all over the screen without her control. Guess what? My mouse was paired to her computer and while I was moving mine around to see if it would work, it was moving around on her screen! Not sure exactly how that happened but I went in and removed the mouse from her's and now my computer pairs with it as it is supposed to. Case closed for now.

  • Why does magic mouse not work with duracel batteries

I bought an iMac a few months ago.
Now the batteries from the magic mouse are empty and I had to buy new ones.
Only they don't work. I had to pick cheap batteries from others devices.
Can anyone tell me which brand wil work?
    Thanks,
    Bernadette

I bought my iMac 2 years ago, it came with a Magic Mouse, within several months I started having the same battery issues. I looked here, and on the Internet to find out if the problem was already known about, but found only people guessing wrongly at what the problem is. I do hope Apple has fixed this, but unfortunately many of got stuck with a junk Magic Mouse. As an Engineer with 25+ years of experience in the design of electrical contacts & connectors which includes over 2 dozen patents ... believe me when I say the problem here is that the recessed positive contacts (at the on/off switch end) are too deeply recessed to make contact with the industry allowed variation in AA batteries. Those contacts are too deeply recessed because the plastic is too thick (in the hole that forms the recess) and the metal contacts are not tightly up against the backside of that plastic wall, in fact it looks like they are installed with a gap and/or can deform/bend away further opening that gap even larger. As mentioned above many industry AA battery standards define the positive button contact height as being 1.0mm or larger ... however that plastic wall is about 1mm thick, add the gap for the metal contacts and you have no electrical contact no matter how much contact spring force there is at the negative end. Unfortunately, there is no simple good fix for the average person to perform, the recessed contacts can't be accessed to bend them to remove that gap and the pastic is too thick anyway .. leaving us with a "duct tape" fix, like wadding some tin foil into that positive terminal recess and swearing when it falls out during battery changes. A nice elegent fix, would involve disassembling the mouse, machining plastic, backing up those terminals... absurd right?... would be easier if Apple sent us a new mouse that works.
This problem has nothing to do with overall battery length, battery diameter, or inadequate spring contact force from the negative mouse contacts. Also I doubt the brand or type of battery is the issue for anyone, the positive button heights vary among brands/types, but probably are 1.0mm or larger per the industry specs, Apple just didn't design this mouse to that industry spec, or they did not control their manufacturing quality to yield what they designed. This iMac was my FIRST Apple purchase after decades of avoiding and dismissing Apple, ironically they won me over with their progress and high quality products ... I'm rather disappointed.

  • Why does Magic Mouse use much more battery power than the keyboard?

I have the Bluetooth versions of the keyboard and the Magic Mouse. I use the same rechargeable batteries in each. Yet the mouse has now come to the end of a THIRD set of AAs, while the keyboard still has 60% of its first set.
Why? They are both constantly in use, so why does the Mouse drain batteries so much faster than the keyboard? Viz: the mouse about once a week (two, max), while at this rate, it will be another month or more before the keyboard drains.

Actually I don't! I consider myself a 'power user' in that I will always use the keyboard first, and I learn keyboard shortcuts for nearly everything I do regularly.
I would guess my use is 50:50 at worst?

  • Why does Magic Mouse lag with new Mac Pro?

My magic mouse worked great on the old G5. Works fine an mini mac. Unusable on the brand new mac pro.
I have a $10 laptop mouse from an old pc that is wireless through a tiny usb connector that works 1000 times better.
    Why?

I have three MM. One just does not work well. The other two are fine with the 2013 Mac Pro. Sometimes you have to clean the optical lens and sometimes they just don't work on any machine.

  • Magic Mouse quits working over night

    I have a new i7 iMac.
In the last week I have noticed that in the morning the Magic Mouse is not connected to the iMac.
The wireless keyboard does work though.
I have put in new batteries in the mouse so I know that is not the problem. I have tried flipping the switch on the bottom of the mouse and that does not do anything. I can see the green light flash on the mouse so I know it is doing something.
I have gone to the mouse system preferences and it says no mouse connected.
The only way to get the iMac to connect to the mouse is a full reboot.
Anyone else seen this? Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
Also, is there a keyboard shortcut to tell the iMac to reboot gracefully. Right now I have to push the power button but I would rather let the OS gracefully shut things down.
    Thanks

FUNCTION CONTROL F2 will move the focus to the Apple menu and then you use the direction keys to Shutdown or Restart the iMac.

  • Why does my mouse stop working?

I'm having issues with my Magic Mouse. It will suddenly stop working. It won't display that the connection was lost until I turn the mouse off and turn it back on. The arrow is also moving very sluggish across the screen. I just replaced the batteries and it is still doing this.

    Yea you were unfortunatly correct.
Soon after the reset I got all the same issues.Often my mouse and keyboard disconnects, Safari lags when scrolling, mouse lags and keyboard and mouse sometimes become unresponsive.
Hate to say it, but what happened to Apple since they cannot even get the mouse and keyboard to work properly?!
Anybody know if a OS X reinstallation might help?

  • Why does magic mouse keep disconnecting?

I've got an Apple Magic Mouse  that is less than one year old and it keeps disconnecting from my Mac Mini.  It just started doing it.  I've put in fresh batteries and restarted the computer.   I've got all the latest operating system software.   Nothing is out of date.   Every couple of minutes it just randomlly disconnects then reconnects and so on, over and over again.  It's only about 2 feet away from my Mac Mini.
    Anybody know what to do?
    Thanks.
    David

I thank you for your help, Ascendi, but I have no idea what you're saying.  I'm guessing I stand alone, because others do understand.  What I got from it was that the batteries don't fit snuggly, and to shove aluminum foil... somewhere.  I'm don't have a PhD in battery terminal dimensions and their terminonolgy.  But I do appreciate that you helped.
David / Flashkube2... EXACTLY!  After years and years with my wonderful white Magic Mouse, just today the exact same thing started happening, only I was losing connection every 20 seconds.  Half the time, I'd get it back.  I feared it was a Bluetooth error, or a hacker was "stealing my juice"  So I got online here, read this stuff, wiggled my batteries around (for years and years, I've only used Duracel), and for the last 10 minutes, I have kept connection with Mr. Mouse and Mr. Mac.  Keep your fingers crossed!
So if this problem arises again, I just stuff aluminum foil in there?  (I'll be a wee bit neater than "stuff").  Speak "positive terminal" and "negative terminal" and "top of the batteries" to me, because "depth of the recess" and "vernier caliper" are Chinese to me.  Does "battery recess" mean how the two batteries sit in its casing?
Maybe I just didn't have enough coffee this morning.  I'm not ususally shtooo-pid.  (don't go there!)

  • Why does Magic Mouse sleep in Bootcamp?

After several seconds it will act as if it has gone to sleep.  A left click wakes it back up but it's such a nuisance that I may have to go back to my previous wired Apple mouse.

I could not get Bluetooth to connect correctly by letting Windows do the pairing automatically but had to assign four zeros as my code.  I've had to do that on otter stubborn Bluetooth and Windows connections.  Four zeros is a common set to get it done.
This report is on a Windows 7 Professional BootCamp.  When I go back and forth between partitions both the Mac and Windows recognize the Magic Mouse.  However the sleep condition on the Windows partition is driving me crazy.  I may have to give it up ad go back to my past mouse.  It kills productivity having to fight it every time you stop mouse activity for just a few seconds then have the left click to wake the mouse.  gggrrrr

  • Why does Magic Mouse keeps losing connection when batteries are OK?

In case it is a connectivity problem I close everything except the operation I'm using and the mouse continues to frequenty lose connection.

  • Does Magic Mouse work with ipad air?

Does Magic Mouse work with IPad Air?

Yes, it is a Bluetooth device. However, my iPad will not connect to the mouse.  Not sure why.
I use my iPad as my personal computer. Mainly for surfing the web, social media, paying bills online... I already have a Bluetooth keyboard that connects to the iPad, so thought it would be nice to have a mouse.

It will scroll in a window that has an indicator scroll bar on the right side but not in the new seamless calendar view. The built in trackpad on my mid 2012 macbook pro will scroll.

  • Magic Mouse Not Working with Boot Camp.

    Hi All,
I have a wired issue here. I installed Windows XP on my iMac 27" using bootcamp and all worked fine till one day my Magic Mouse stopped working in Windows. Now the funny part is windows is able to detect my mouse and says that the device is working normally but the green light under my mouse is OFF. No matter what i try i cannot get it to come on. But the moment i boot to Mac OS X the mouse works perfectly fine. My Apple Wireless KB works just fine in Windows. A USB mouse also works fine. I have also installed Parallels on my Mac and when i boot into the Windows partition using Parallels the Magic Mouse works fine. Any idea as to whats going on here.?
    John.

I have a new (July 2009) iMac24 and neither the wireless mighty mouse nor keyboard work with Boot Camp XP Home Edition SP3. They install OK with the Bluetooth control panel, but then after five or ten seconds, drop out of the control panel and have to be discovered again. I spent two hours today with a Mac support expert, but no joy. We both gave up. It seems the wireless mouse/keyboard does not work with Boot Camp. If anyone hears of a solution, please let me know.

Why do you use the Blend Modes Lighter and Darker at all in this case and not simply Normal?
And what kept you from posting a screenshot?
I borrowed the image below for an HDR workshop I ran at the 2010 PSNZ National Convention, to demonstrate a method of removing halos.  You'll remember that halos were a serious problem with early HDR, and while the halos in this image were caused by over sharpening, they are perfect for demonstrating this technique.
It relies on the fact that halos so often tend to put a lighter tone between the two areas where sharpening is being applied. Whether that is the sky abutting a dark line of hills, or the rock and little tower as in this image.  I've uploaded it at the size it was supplied to me at (about 2700 pixels wide).  So
Click to open the full image, right click and copy, and paste into Photoshop.
Select the clone tool, and set its blend mode to Darken.
Try to sample on a line horizontal to where you want to clone, to give the best tonal match, and start cloning.
Because the sky is darker than the halo, it overwrites it. But the rock is darker than the sky, so it has no affect.
It works even better if you clone on a new layer also set to Darken.  No masking, just Photoshop blend mode magic.
You can also fix the little tower. Use a great big brush — just remember to sample horizontal to match the horizon.
Back then I was using the same trick with CAs after forgetting to fix them in ACR, and having done too much work to start again after spotting the problem.
