After updating to the new lion, Mail will not open.
when i click on it, it shows up in the top bar but no window opens?

show all windows makes all windows that are open dissappear, and the screen goes darker,
and it wont let me click, new viewer window

OK, thank you. I use apple for e-mail. I have an @me address and I have long subscribed to mobile me, which has recently become icloud. Yesterday the @me mail account appeared to stop recognizing my e-mail password for my primary mail account on my two imacs but not on my ipad. The most recent e-mail I have received on my imacs is 7:16am yesterday, but I know from my ipad that I have received numerous e-mails since then. I have other mail accounts, including one for the school where I teach. I am receiving e-mail on the school account ok.
I made no changes to my password or otherwise for my primary mail account any time recently. I also still have my @mac address.
Generally, I do not understand icloud. I do not understand how to sync information across computers.
When I go to preferences in mail and I click and accounts and account information, I do not understand anything that I see there. When I try to re-type my password, there seems to be no way to save it except to switch to another mail account. I know from past experience that if I attempt to fix whatever might be wrong with mail I do not know what I am doing.
Any information would be helpful. Thank you.

Why does Mail not support read receipts?

I find it hard to believe that there is a single email application that doesn't support read receipts. For me it is a fairly basic feature I would expect any decent Mail application to have.
I am currently in the process of writing an email to a company and I want to make sure they get it - a read receipt is how I want to verify that they've had it. Why does Mail not support this?
If I am going to have to accept that Mail is not the first class application Apple keeps parading around - is there an alternative that offers this and other features I would expect to find in Microsoft Outlook (minus the calendar etc...)?

Outlook uses a Microsoft-proprietary system for "read receipts", so there may be no way Apple could implement it, or there may be licensing fees involved, or Apple may just not feel that it's worth spending the money to implement. Outlook which is designed to work primarily with an Exchange server, so it's in Microsoft's interest to support Exchange features (note that even Microsoft in their own Mac app do not support all the features theydo on Windows).
You can express your interest in this feature to Apple via their feedback pages, if you wish:

but support for return receipts in any system other than Exchange is very unlikely, since as Matt said it is not part of the Internet email specification and hence not widely supported at all.

Why does Firefox not work here in China anymore, since January of 2015?

I have used Firefox for years, as the fastest and most reliable browser for me, esp in China... not anymore! Last month (unknown to me) a hijacker called Vosteran took over my Firefox browser. I finally realized it and got it cleaned up using Malwarebytes anti-malware, and downloaded a new Firefox... now SAME problem exists, even with Vosteran removed!
Firefox will not allow me into ANY normal sites, saying they don't have the proper security code. This includes my Yahoo front page, email account, ESPN and other common sites that are certainly NOT dangerous. So, WHY does Firefox not work anymore? It is useless to me here in China the way it works now.

hello rickinchina, first please make sure that the '''date, time & timezone''' are set correctly on your system and that firefox is set to directly connect to the internet (that's the "'''no proxy'''" setting in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > network > connection - settings...'').
if this doesn't solve the issue (or it is already set properly), a possible solution depends on different factors:
* what is the '''error code''' shown under ''technical details'' on the error page?
in case the error code equals ''sec_error_unknown_issuer'', please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page (but don't do it for real) and inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):

I have a mac hooked up to an hp printer. i installed bonjour on my windows 7 laptop and it was able to install this printer via bonjour. yet when i click print on my laptop, nothing happens. on my mac, the printer queue doesn't open up and my printer does nothing.

Why does Mail not update timely with Mavericks? Why does the download to fix this issue (?) won't install?

I installed Mavericks on my MacBook Pro when it first came out. Since then, my Mail program doesn't go out and get my new mail from gmail every minute like it's set to do. Sometimes new mail shows up on my smart phone as long as 10 minutes before it shows up on my Mac. I saw there was a stand-alone download for Mail on Mavericks meant to fix some gmail-Mavericks-Mail problems. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6030
However, this will not install on my Mac. The error message says simply that "this volume does meet the requirements for this update." Can't figure out why. I have plenty of memory.

Try adjusting the settings in Mail:
Mail > Preferences > General > Check For Incoming Messages: Every Minute
Also, you may be downloading an incompatible 10.9.1 update (one is for newest retina Macbook Pro's, the other for remaining Macs). Navigate to the Apple Logo > Software Update...
If it shows no software update available when the App Store opens, you are already running 10.9.1 (which includes the mail update).

Why Does 3G Not Work on my IPhone

Apologies everyone - I am a real numpty with my IPhone. I have switched just about everything on i think I need to to enable 3G and my service provider says that in my present location the wireless service is excellent. So why is that on my top toolbar I don't see 3G - just my signal strength, service provider and a round circle then the date. I cannot get connectivity unless I am at home next to my own router. Can anyone help as I have had this problem now since I have had my phone and I really do need to get it sorted out. Any guidance at all is very welcome indeed.

What type of iPhone do you have. I heard that 3G cannot switched off on an iPhone 4s, so if you have that one, it can only be a service provider issue (worst case: Your antenna does not work).
Did you try on a different location, like downtown?
If you have an iPhone 4 or 3Gs you can check if 3G is switched off: Go to settings->General->Network. At the top there is a 3G switch that should be on (blue).
Let us know if this works.

PSE11 Why does Sharpening not work in Quick or Guided Mode?

I have used PSE 5 happily and greatly liked the auto sharpen feature. I have been forced to upgrade to PSE 11 due to Windows 8 incompatibility with 5.
I am appalled to find that the sharpen feature, including auto, does not work in Quick or Guided modes. The small previews in Quick mode show the correct sharpening effect but clicking on them or using the slider does not transfer to the main image. I either have to go into full unsharp mask, which I hate for quick fixes, or use the 'adjust sharpness' option under 'filter' in Quick or Guided Mode, which increases sharpness by an unspecified amount on each click.
Surely there si something wrong here. The feature is there so why doesn't it work?
Any ideas would be welcome. If it isn't fixable I shall want a refund based on the product not being fit for purpose.

Thanks for confirming that it should work ok. I've now done the obvious and uninstalled/reinstalled and it's fine now.

Why does printer not work after network password changed?

I changed the password on my Airport Extreme (5th Gen) which is connected to an iMac,base, and now my HP Photosmart C4750 will not print. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the printer software using the original HP printer CD. The error message "The selected WI-Fi Network "network name" is not within the reach of the device." Do I have to change the password back in order for it to work on my wireless?
Appreciate any assistance.

The software provided for Mountain Lion does not offer any wireless configuration, therefore it may not work well on the OS.
Connect the printer to the network through the EWS by following the steps below:
Step one: Restore the printer's network default settings
Touch the ATM button () next to Wireless / Scan .
Touch the ATM button () next to Wireless Menu
Touch the ATM button () next to Wireless Settings .
Use the up and down ATM buttons () to select Restore Network Defaults , and then press OK .
Touch the ATM button () next to Yes to confirm your selection.
Step two: create a temporary network connection with the printer to access its EWS
Click the Wi-Fi icon on your Mac.
Click on Join Other Networks.
Click on Show Networks.
Select the HPSETUP network and click on Connect
Allow 2-3 minutes to establish the connection.
Step three: Follow the Wireless Setup Wizard from teh EWS
Open Safari and click the Bookmarks icon, select Bonjour from that window
Note: if the Bonjour option is missing under the Bookmarks menu click on Safari > Preferences > Bookmarks and check the Bonjour box within the Collections section.
From Bonjour double click the C4750. the EWS appears.
Open the Networking tab.
Click on Wireless.
Click the Start Wizard button on the bottom right side of that screen and follow the steps to connect the printer to your network.
Once you are done, reconnect your Mac to your home network by following step two but selectng your home network.

When I open firefox in safe mode hotmail is functional but when I open firefox normally hotmail does not work. I can't seem to find out what add ons I have.

"Exit" Button to destroy Xlet-why does it not work???

I am very confused with KeyEvents in MHP and kind of stuck..
I just want an EXIT Button for my Xlet-that's all!! I tried to different ways:
The first one is compiling without any errors but it just does not work, either in XletView 3.6 nor in the IRT Implementation..Is there something i missed?

Unfortunately your suggestion did not work too..
I added context.notifyDestroyed() to destroyXlet(), the problem is that my application does not react on pressing VK_ENTER..
Do you have any other ideas?
The second code with dvb events just works without adding notifyDestroyed,
but just with XletView, not with the IRT RI..
