Why does Mail pull in old emails from my windows live email address?

I've got various active e-mail addresses from new and old internet providers, and if i use them they will continue to work, (so i'm told)
but the one i've got from when i had a windows phone (i know.... i was er... experimenting ) and for my xbox account, just seems to
pull in old e-mails (a week or more, e-mails i've already had through other e-mail addresses) noticed it more this xmas,
as the sales had ended by the time i received an e-mail from windows live,
does anyone know why?

Travis,
You have posted in the Mail & AB forum for Leopard, and not Snow Leopard, and the system info posting below any of your responses reports 10.5.6 -- you should correct the latter.
For some using Snow Leopard and using Time Machine, this has been leading edge issue, and one that hopefully will be dealt with by the next update to SL. What seems to happen with Mail 4.x and use of Time Machine, is that the file that in normal use prevents duplicate downloads gets restored to an old version, and thus Mail does not know it has downloaded the messages previously. Purging the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3 file will cure briefly (after enduring one more download of all messages on the server, but the problem will return because of Time Machine. Are you using Time Machine?
As for housekeeping, if you quit Mail, and then shut down your laptop (or maybe even if only putting it to sleep by closing the lid), then Mail housekeeping tasks, which include keeping the index up-to-date do not get finished, and then can be problems. Now that I know you are using Snow Leopard, I am less suspicious of that.

  • Why does Mail keep reloading old emails into my inbox as if they are new?

Ill be doing homework at like 2-3am and all of the sudden Mail will say I have 157 new emails in my inbox. When I go look at them, it just reloads all the messages in my gmail inbox into my Mail inbox. To prevent it from happening I have to keep moving my gmail messages into folders. Is there anyway to fix this?? Maybe it is the way I have it set up??? Someone please help, it happens like 3 times a week at least and is super annoying!!!

  • Why does Firefox load an old links (from e-mails or a previously played POGO game) when it first opens instead of my homepage?

Every time I receive an (Outlook) e-mail with a link, Firefox will open and navigate to the link, but then seems to remember and reopens that link every time I start Firefox, instead of loading my homepage. If I receive another e-mail (with a new link), and I navigate to the new link or the wife plays a POGO game then it opens each time I start Firefox. I currently using version 4, but the problem has been going on since approximately the last 3 or 4 updates.

Open the Firefox preferences (from the "Tools" menu, choose "Options"). In the "General" section, you can change the "When Firefox starts..." option to show your home page, instead of showing your tabs from last time.

  • Why does mail crash after waking up from sleep? Every time.

Almost every time I wake my MacPro from sleep, Mail hangs and I have to Force Quit. I'd say this happens 99% of the time now.

Stuart, I have the exact same issue.
This seems to be a bug.
    Assistance would be appreciated.

  • Why does Mail crash when I try to expand a group of addresses?

I like the native Apple applications. I use Mail and Address Book and do not utilize any other programs for these functions. Lately when I address an email to a group and then highlight the group name in order to expand it and thus show the individual addresses, the spinning ball appears, mail stops responding, and I have to quit Mail and start over again. Sometimes, if I haven't saved the email as a draft, I lose all my typing just before sending out the email, and this is frustrating. Has anyone encountered this problem and found a solution? I used to do this all the time without a problem. I am running Mail 2.1 and Address Book 4.0.5 in Tiger (10.4.10).

Have you tried closing the Mail app completely and seing if you can delete that email when you re-open Mail ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Mail 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
And by reboot I assume that you mean a reset ? - press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear (which won't remove any content).

    Hi James,
The Calendar app on the iPad and iCal are different. I suggest you may get better responses in the iPad community:

Having said that I just tried linking to an @live account on my iPad and it seemed to work OK. Have you checked the server name and login details?

When I send an email from Mac Mail, why does Mail go to the background and the Finder comes to the front? I want it to stay in Mail.

Did you check your user name and password in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your email account, tap SMTP, then tap the primary server name.  Make sure the settings there are correct.

Why does my iphone send all text from only one of my contacts to my email? I'm curious to know if anyone else has had this issue with the Iphone 5s...

imessage has a new setting that shows all emails associated with your apple id.  There are two sections, send and receive.  Since you are using the same apple id, Im sure if you adjust one of those settings to your mobile number instead of your appleid, it wont send double.
You might also have to adjust your wifes settings too, so those emails dont overlap

Why does Apple kick their old subscribers under the bus? I have an iMac G5 1.9 and 2.1 computer using Leopard 10.5.8 system, and I cannot renew my MobileMe account, why? Is Apple incapable of keeping their old subscriber accounts active and still update their system? Maybe I should look into buying a PC in the future? I eagerly await your reply. Thanks

MobileMe is being terminated in two weeks. If you have files on your iDisk which are not also on your computer you need to be downloading them as soon as possible or you will lose them.
You can migrate to iCloud and set Mail up manually to receive your @me.com mail:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
You will not be able to sync calendars or contacts. If you want to have general online file storage you will need to find a third-party alternative - this page examines some options:

  • Why does mail stop working?

Why does mail stop working when it has worked fine for years?

OK, thank you.  I use apple for e-mail.  I have an @me address and I have long subscribed to mobile me, which has recently become icloud.  Yesterday the @me mail account appeared to stop recognizing my e-mail password for my primary mail account on my two imacs but not on my ipad.  The most recent e-mail I have received on my imacs is 7:16am yesterday, but I know from my ipad that I have received numerous e-mails since then.  I have other mail accounts, including one for the school where I teach.  I am receiving e-mail on the school account ok.
I made no changes to my password or otherwise for my primary mail account any time recently.  I also still have my @mac address.
Generally, I do not understand icloud.  I do not understand how to sync information across computers.
When I go to preferences in mail and I click and accounts and account information, I do not understand anything that I see there.  When I try to re-type my password, there seems to be no way to save it except to switch to another mail account.  I know from past experience that if I attempt to fix whatever might be wrong with mail I do not know what I am doing.
Any information would be helpful.  Thank you.
