Why does Mozilla release so many Firefox updates?

I hate updating Firefox because every time I do it totally messes up my add on toolbars. Or it says that certain add ons are incompatible with the new version. It seems like every 3 months or less Mozilla is pushing out another version. Never mind the nagging popups that plague me every time I open Firefox. I of course know that I can choose to never be notified but I realize that at some point I will HAVE to update Firefox, because certain websites may be a problem visiting and that. I just wished Mozilla wold release their newest version once a year instead of so frequently.

hello, i use an early alpha version of firefox that updates daily and have never experienced any of the issues of mixed up toolbars or incompatible addons you have described as a result of that.
which addons in particular are you using which cause you those problems? figuring this out and contacting the addon's developer or switching to alternatives that are better maintained might be an approach with far greater chance of success than hoping that firefox will change to a yearly release schedule - this won't happen since frequent releases are done due to security, stability, performance and web standard improvements...

  • Why does Mozilla's repo claim Firefox 26.0 is not quite ready?

Does anybody know what has happened to the binaries Mozilla provides for x86_64 Linux builds of Firefox? I'm asking because Arch recently updated to Firefox 26.0 and this is the version now available from the main Mozilla site. However, it isn't possible to download 64 bit builds there - only 32 bit. Normally, I obtain Firefox from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org … x86_64/cy/ but this is still offering me 25.0.1. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org … /releases/ includes a directory for 26.0 but accessing https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org … ases/26.0/ gives me a message saying that 26.0 is not quite ready and I should download the beta if I can't wait.
Recently, I had to switch locations because the site I was using no longer provided the files. However, switching to ftp.mozilla.org seemed to solve that issue. Moreover, I'm confused by the message I'm getting since 26.0 clearly is now the stable version so it makes no sense to say it isn't get ready for release.
I've tried searching for alternative locations but I'm turning up a great many sites offering 64 bit builds for Windows, and I'm not sure how trustworthy they are anyway. I would rather download from Mozilla with a checksum I can verify against Mozilla's key and use to check the integrity of the archive I've got. Right now, checksums etc. are not available either for 26.0.
Note that I rely on Mozilla's builds because Arch's does not work in my preferred user interface language.
EDIT: I get the same issue if I navigate to the releases parent of the source of the archive in Arch's PKGBUILD even though wget finds the source bzip2 OK if I try to download it directly. This is really weird.
EDIT: Note to self: never fail to try the bleeding obvious:
    $ wget https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/26.0/linux-x86_64/cy/firefox-26.0.tar.bz2
    $ wget https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/26.0/SHA512SUMS
    $ wget https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/26.0/SHA512SUMS.asc
    Still seems very odd, though.
So now my question is: does anybody know why?

Interesting. In my case that does not seem to be the case.
I'm running x86_64 and I use the 64 bit version.
Also, in my case, although a 32 bit version should run on a 64 bit version I get library errors if I install the 32 bit version in my Arch system.
So I must conclude that the update retrieves the correct 64 bit version or I would get errors ... and I do not.
Perhaps if you contact the MDN irc at irc://irc.mozilla.org/mdn you can get an answer to your question.

That is the point of a beta version.
Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, as well as speed/performance issues. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. "

  • Why does Mozilla Firefox use Google as their web search if Google stores everything we search?

Why does Mozilla Firefox use Google as their search engine if Google stores everything you search and track what you do online? I've got nothing against Firefox, I'm just wondering why.

I just figured they wouldn't have since they don't track what people do. I figured they were against that.

Why does mozilla wants to make changes to my laptop settings while I try to download firefox

If you install a program then elevated (Administrator) permissions are needed and Windows will ask you to confirm.
If it happens all the time if you start a program then you need to check the Compatibility tab in the Properties of the shortcut via the right-click context menu and make sure that Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" is not selected.

  • Why does the iTunes 10.4.1 update take me to Apple's download webpage instead of the usual Safari/Quicktime dialog box?

Why does the iTunes 10.4.1 update take me to to Apple's download webpage (to download a full version of iTunes) instead of the usual Safari/Quicktime pop-up/dialog box where I usually perform the updates?

iTunes 10.4 and Safari 5.1 contain more than 'just' the OSX Lion-release but stability and security improvements as well.
For example, here is http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070 what the Safari 5.1 contains.
In here http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/ I can't find an "end-date" for the download of the Lion installer.
Nonetheless, personaly I would download the Lion installer and then copy it (from your Apllications folder) to a secure place (backup harddisk, external hardisk etc.).
When your IT gives it a go you can then use te Lion installer from inside the Applications folder, but I would also say to make a bootable clone of your current OSX Snow Leopard before starting the Lion installation.

  • Why does it say in the Firefox Safe Mode article that all of the changes are temporary while in Safe Mode, then later it says "Note: The following changes cannot be undone."?

Why does it say in the Firefox Safe Mode article that all of the changes are temporary while in Safe Mode, then later it says "Note: The following changes cannot be undone."?

When you open Firefox in Safe Mode, it automatically disables your custom settings, themes, and add-ons. THOSE changes are temporary.
However, if you click any of the boxes underneath the line, "You can make some or all of these changes permanent", and then choose "Make Changes and Restart", everything you checked will be forever changed, even when you start Firefox again in 'normal' mode. [See attached image for a preview of the Safe Mode options].
    To be clear:
    1. If you check any of the boxes but do NOT select "Make changes and restart", those things will not be changed at all in safe mode.
    2. If you select any of the boxes and you DO select "Make changes and restart", you will permanently lose any of the items you checked (bookmarks (except for backups), user preferences, etc.).
If you performed the action in step 2 above, you will only be able to restore those things if you have a previously created back-up of your Mozilla Profiles folder (not the same as the Firefox program folder).
    Hope this helps.

  • Why does the iPod duplicate songs when updating my playlists?

Why does the iPod duplicate songs when updating my playlists? Also, you cannot use the "show duplicate songs" feature on the iPod - I suppose that is because it is not supposed to duplicate songs on the iPod. But, if that is the case - why does it do it?

Try resetting your iPod, press and hold the power and the home buttons together approximately 15 seconds until the Apple logo appears. If that does not work try going into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. If that does not work try connecting to you iTunes library via the cable and un-sync the library from your iPod then sync the library.  For the next 2 options backup your iPod first, then do a Restore iPod from backup, if that doesn't work... As a last resort Restore your iPod as New. I too had the red circle and square after updating to 7.0.4 the last resort fixed mine, others have reported doing all the above, all have had reports of fixing the problem and not fixing it. Give it a try, hopefully one of these works, Good luck.

  • Why does my iMac appear many times in my network and labelled 1,2,3, etc

why does my iMac appear many times in my network and labelled 1,2,3, etc

    Ok, I solved it.
    I followed this steps:
1- Turn Off Wi-Fi from the Wireless menu item
2- From the OS X Finder, hit Command+Shift+G and enter the following path:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
3- Within this folder locate and select the following files:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

com.apple.network.identification.plist
    com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist

    NetworkInterfaces.plist

    preferences.plist
4- Move all of these files into a folder on your Desktop called ‘wifi backups’ or something similar – we’re backing these up just in case you break something but if you regularly backup your Mac you can just delete the files instead since you could restore from Time Machine if needed.
    5- Reboot the Mac
6- Turn ON WI-Fi from the wireless network menu again

  • Why does Mozilla send two e-mail every time I send an e-mail?

Every time I send an e-mail, I see two of the same e-mail in my sent box. Why?
Also why does Mozilla delete my e-mails off the main server automatically? I like to do it manually.

Is it really sending it twice or are you just seeing it two times in the sent folder? Some providers like gmail place a copy in your sent folder already so you need to go into Thunderbird settings and tell it not to do it again. Then you will only see if it once in the folder.

  • Why does iphoto 11 tell me to update library every time i open it?

why does iphoto 11 tell me to update library every time i open it?
    iPhoto '11 OSX 10.8.5
I open iphoto and I get the message
"the Photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto"
I click upgrade and after a few seconds the photos show fine, the application works correctly.
then I quit the app. and reopen and i get the same message and the same results.
this was happening before I did a complete erase of the Macbook Pro and install of Mt Lion
    upgraded from lion.
only thing thats the same is the computer and the library I restored.
    RT

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Why does the latest version of firefox insist flash player is out of date and blocks play back but it is the latest update

Flash Player Plugin between 11.0 and 11.7.700.169 (click-to-play) has been blocked for your protection.this is what firefox tells me but when i check the add-ons manager it says version 15.0.0.239 is installed.how can i get firefox to recognize the right version

The Plugin check is behind on what versions is current to check for so it is useless at moment until it is updated.
This is because 15.0.0.2'''39''' is not the latest Firefox 15 version as there has been at least 15.0.0.2'''42''' which is on blocklist and 15.0.0.2'''46''' which is not on the blocklist as according to Adobe it is not affected.
Flash Player Plugin 14.0 to 15.0.0.242
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/blocked/p798
Flash Player Plugin 10.3.183.66 to 13.0.0.258
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/p794
So for Windows and Mac 16.0.0.235, 13.0.0.25'''9''' ESR and
15.0.0.24'''6''' are not vulnerable according to Adobe and are not on blocklist.
'''philipp''' you need to update your posting for this as Mozilla made a two part blocklist on Friday so as to not block the 13.0.0.258 ESR version and your link is for one of the two blocklists for Win/Mac.

  • Trying to Burn MP3 CD - Why Does it Require So Many CDs?

I imported a bunch of my daughter's CDs as MP3 files. When I was done, I created a playlist in iTunes and moved all the MP3 files into it. iTunes tells me that I have 304 songs in the playlist, taking up 696.8 Mb. I then tried to burn the entire playlist to CD, but in the course of the burn iTunes told me that the burn would span CDs. After inserting my 4th CD, I stopped the process.
I might be able to understand why this would take 2 CDs (even though I used a 700Mb CD), but why did it require so many more? More importantly, how do I set up iTunes so I can import around 600 Mb of MP3 songs onto only one CD? This would seem to me to be a pretty common process, but iTunes is giving me fits!
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA!
    Scott

I have read many threads about similar situations and the only thing I can suggest is buy "music pro cd-r's". My friend and I had the same problem and that solved it, hope it does for you too.
