Why does my 3rd generation 8gb ipod touch not pick up on ios 5 update?

Why does my 3rd generation 8gb ipod touch not pick up on ios 5 update?

I know you are not apple though I believe I still have apoint. As you can see the release date for these two iPod touches is differentby about a year. My iPod was sold as an apple iPod touch 8 GB third generation, and as I can see from this page and many others have experienced this. I wouldcomplain to apple though there seems to be no actual way to do this withouthaving to fork out for additional support, which is unacceptable also my iPodwas bought form a reliable UK retailer. It is not just the seller who names itas a 3rd generation I have also included a print screen of a trade in offerfrom a large phone shop site:

  • WHY WONT MY 3RD GENERATION 8GB IPOD TOUCH UPGRADE TO 4.3.3 ?

I HAVE BEEN TRYING BUT ITUNES DOESNT SEEM TO SHOW THE MESSAGE THAT AN UPDATE IS AVALIABLE FOR YOUR IPOD TOUCH :S

There never were any 3rd-generation 8GB iPod touches sold, the erroneous information given out by some dealers notwithstanding. You have a 2nd-generation iPod touch as far as the hardware goes, so the last version of iOS your device will be able to run is iOS 4.2.1.

It will if I put it in on my desktop though.

Probably because you did not tell the iPod to sync the calendar in iTunes.

  • Difference between 2nd generation and 3rd generation 8Gb iPod touch

    Hello,
I recently won a 2nd generation 8Gb iPod Touch (Part No. MB528LL/A) that I would like to sell. I want to be able to tell the buyer the differences between the 2nd generation model and the 3rd generation model. According to Wikipedia in regards to the 3rd generation model:
"The 8 GB version is a reissue of the 2nd generation iPod touch hardware, includes OS version 3.x, but does not include support for Voice Control or the remote earphones with microphone."
According to Wikipedia in regards to the 2nd generation model:
"iPhone OS 2.0 and App Store access standard. Bluetooth support added but not made active until iPhone OS 3.0, which requires an upgrade fee."
Does anyone know if these statements are true? Are there any other differences? Is the 2nd generation model more or less desirable than the 3rd generation?
    Thanks in advance!

  • 3rd generation 8gb ipod touch

How much would a 3rd generation ipod touch 8gb be worth today?

    *Sigh!*

You are wrong, sir or ma'am.
There is an 8gb iPod touch. It does have a different video speck than the 16 and larger iPod touches. I know because I worked for an authorized Apple dealer during this time and had to be certified on the product line.
Not in 3rd generation, there isn't! This topic has been aired over and over again. Apple have never marketed a 3rd generation Touch with 8GB capacity. Never!
Non-Apple retailers may have done so, but Apple have not.
Look at this iPod identification chart from the following article, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353:

please note the a1288 was branded as a 3rd gen.
    Not by Apple!
From the same article mentioned above:
A1288 is 2nd generation. It's there - in black and white. Or you can check out the full article for yourself.
    don_dudley wrote:
As for its worth, I sold mine on eBay for about $100 a year ago.
But it was not a 3rd generation model. If you sold a Model No. A1288 as 3rd generation, you better hope the buyer doesn't come back to you for mis-representation.

  • Will my 3rd generation 8gb iPod Touch support ios 5?

Will ios 5 besupported on 8gb third generation iPod touch even though the latter instalments of ios 4 were not?

Anyone who purchased their 8GB touch that was advertised as a 3rd Generation may want to go back to where your purchased it. I had all of my original packaging and receipt which showed the item as an 8gb 3rd Gen model. I also had the BB Black tie protection which may have helped. I made my purchase in Feb of 2010. After much head scratching and disappearing managment it was agreed that my original purchase price for the iPod would be refunded. I appear to have been the first person at this location to bring this to their attention. The funny thing is the guy who walked up a couple of minutes after I started my hour and a half ordeal had the same complaint. I had also sent an email to customer service earlier in the week. I did not hear back from them until late in the afternoon after I went to the local store. The lady was aware of the situation and said she was pleased my local store had refunded my purchase. I did turn around and purchase a brand new white 4th Gen model. Wow what a difference, I like my little "crack pad" as my wife call it, more than I did before.

  • 3rd gen 8GB ipod touch stuck on connect to itunes

This isn't fair. I just bought this 3rd gen 8gb ipod touch (my first ipod ever, only owned Mp3 players) from best buy today and i can't even use it...
I'm going to start from square one, this will be long-winded, so forgive me in advance. But detail might help you guys help me out...
Okay, all giddy with excitement I boot up my touch for the first time. It tells me to connect it to itunes. I do that, hooking up the touch to the computer via usb. Vista detects it, installs the "apple mobile device" drivers just fine. Good, so then I open up itunes -- latest version -- and it's telling me to set up my ipod; name it, etc. Alright, I'm almost bursting at the seams here with excitement, but then itunes is notifying me that iOS4 is out. I upgrade, it takes a few minutes to do its stuff, it's done, and bam it's working. I play with the ipod a little bit, looking at the apps that already came with it. I disconnect, play with it, then reconnect to the computer again.
So now, itunes for some reason is doing a "recovery" process -- i did not tell it to initiate this. So it's in the process of "recovering" (backing up, i guess?) and Vista is prompting me to install the driver "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery)" I tell it ok, locate and install them. It does that, I'm guessing, for it's now prompting me to insert a CD. Well, there is no CD so I tell it to find this driver on the internet. It says "cannot find drivers check manufacturer's support site blah blah blah." At this point, itunes tells me that it cannot complete the "recovery process" -- no error code or anything, and the dialog box closes.
Now, my ipod goes into the connect to itunes screen. Itunes does not recognize it, for it does not even display my ipod at all. Vista does however, and each time i connect the ipod to the computer it attempts to install the "apple mobile device (recovery)" driver and fails each time. I don't know what's happening. I've lost all functionality in my ipod, can't even get into DFU. iTunes just refuses to recognize it. I've tried all of those fixes (reinstalling itunes, rebooting, trying that method where you go into device manager and update the apple mobile device (recovery) drivers....all of it doesn't work). I've spent hours websearching...
And I'm at a loss. I'm ready to throw this thing somewhere. Can you guys suggest any help for me? Please...

Try DFU mode and then restore

    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

When you restore via iTunes iTunes will download the firmware(ipsw) file. It could be that the microwave damaged the iPod and iTunes does not know what it is.

  • 3rd generation 8g ipod touch

I thought I purchased a 3rd generation 8g Ipod Touch from Best Buy on April 2011. It will not update to the new OS so I can sync with Icloud. My receipt says 3rd genration Ipod. Did Apple ever make an 8g Ipod Touch 3rd Generation.

No. You really have a 2G iPod. The3G iPods were only made in 32 and 64 GB capacities.

  • Can I add more storage to my 4th generation 8gb Ipod touch?

How can I increase the storage of my 4th generation 8gb ipod touch?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Unfortunately, you can't add more storage to an iPod touch after buying it. If you bought it less than 14 days ago, you can return it and buy a 32 GB iPod touch

  • 8gb ipod touch not 8gb 6.5gb why is this any sugesstions???

i bought an 8gb ipod touch but my friend had loads of music on his usb but my computer says 3.23gb free of 6.5? can any1 help???

I also think they're stealing us, because for those who have the 8gb iPod (smallest version), 6.5gb is nothing for games, music, videos,...
Because, when we bought it, nobody told us that the "8gb" iPod had only 6.5.
This happens because that 1.5gb is reserved for the iOS, wich I think is stupid.
    It's an outrage

  • Updating 4th Generation 8gb Ipod Touch to ios 6?

    Is it even possible?
    *facepalm*
    Stats:
I currently have the recent 4.2.1 on it. That's as far as my itunes (11. version, the latest) is letting me take. It's not showing me any other possible route and I'm a little certain ios 6 should work on the 4th gen ipods.
    I really want ios 6
Please help! Thanks v.v.much in advance.

You appear to have a second generation iPod touch, not a fourth.

  • 3rd Generation, 15g Ipod- Will Not Charge- HELP

I have a 3rd generation, 15g Ipod- I keep it for nostalgia purposes but I can't get it to charge.
    It has a new battery.
I'm extremely frustrated at my experience with Apple. Technology changes so fast (i've owned it 7years) that no one seems to know or care to assist me either at the Apple 800 number or in the Apple store.
I have the original Ipod but not the cradle or anything else that I can find. We have purchased so many Ipods over the years.
So I have been told that if the battery gets to low I must charge it with the a wall adaptor. So today I purchase a new wall adaptor but it won't charge the ipod. Plugging into my 2 year old Imac won't charge it either. Is there another way to charge the Ipod?
I just received it back with a new battery. It was 1/4 charged and Imac recognized it perfectly. I just think the battery got too low and needs to be charged another way. HEEEEEELPP!

    Hi,
I just think the battery got too low and needs to be charged another way. HEEEEEELPP!
No. You're lucky that the battery went for 7 years. They do not last forever.

  • 3rd generation 15GB ipod will not boot

My third(3rd) generation 15GB iPod (A1050) will not boot. First it felt like the battery was just dead. Resetting the iPod using menu+play for 6 seconds gives me the apple logo and then the battery w/triangle/exclamation point error. I tried a new battery but that didn't change anything. I tried charging it using AC and USB, but that didn't seem to help... I don't have a firewire cable so I can't try that.
Finally I tried to boot the iPod without the battery. I'm not sure if it's suppose to be able to do that. Well, this one doesn't so I'm not sure if I've exonerated the battery or if I just have a red herring.
Visual inpection of the inside looks like all the cables are connected firmly and I don't see any obvious broken solder joints.
Another point is that when I plug the iPod into my usb drive the WinXP machine doesn't see it. I use the same WinXP machine to synch with a 1 month old Nano so I know that usb port works and I do have itunes loaded.
Any advice on what I can try next?

I have had basically the exact same problem.
Question: I bought mine used off of Craigslist, and I think what the seller didn't mention is that this model comes with a Cradle or 'Dock' or whatever you call it. Did you buy yours used as well? I think we may need to look into buying a dock and being mad at whoever sold it to us without one.
