Why does my apple no longer connect wirelessly at home - it is about 3-4 years old.

why does apple not connect wirelessly anymore.
mothers mac book pro does - as do other HP and Dell laptops we have - also iphones etc
says 'connection timeout after wheel spins for 2 seconds only
very frustrating
worked ok in apple store today connecting wirelessly to their computer
is problem with m y Mac or the router - as i said - router works with other laptops perfectly

Turn Off the router & then turn back On. Then you'll probably connect.

why does my apple tv keep dropping out of home sharing.

I use homeplug powerline adapters to create my home Lan. I've never had any problem with my ATV 2.
This isn't ideal either, I would rather have shielded CAT7 cables reach all the way to my modem.
Either way, wired solutions are more reliable and have a higher potential speed as wireless uses pulsed electromagnetic radiation as a means for transportation in stead of copper or fiber optic cables
The World Health Organization's IARC has recently classified radio frequency electromagnetic fields as possibly level 2 carcinogenic to humans, concluding:
"the evidence, while still accumulating, is strong enough to support a conclusion and the 2B classification. The conclusion means that there could be some risk, and therefore we need to keep a close watch for a link between cell phones and cancer risk."

  • Why does my laptop no longer connect to our WPA2 shared network drive?

Our Airport Express is set up to give us access to the internet plus access to a shared network drive via a WPA2 key. Suddenly, I can no longer access the shared network drive, even though my wireless internet access is fine, and the Airport Utility is "recognizing" my computer. I am the only PC user in a house of unsympathetic Mac users who are not having any similar problems! Can anyone tell me what I should do to fix this?
    Thanks very much.

I don't remember where I found this, but it did work for me.

  • I am migrating from my old black MacBook to a new MacBook pro over wifi but why does it take SO Long...?  I have about 400 gig to transfer and it says 80 hours!  Can this be right?  Is there a faster way?  Is there a way to cancel the migration?

I have an old black MacBook (2006) and want to migrate to my new MacBook pro i7. The migration assistant offered me the prospect of migrating via wifi.  Stated at 108 hours to transfer about 400 gig. Now revised down to 85 hours. Why is this so so so long??  Is there a faster way?  What happens if I cancel now.  Is there a way to cancel? As there is no cancel button....
Ay suggestion sighing the next 80 hours very much appreciated.

The 2006 MacBook has firewire. Use a cable like this. Boot the '06 with the T key held down until you see the Firewire icon. Connect the 400 port on the '06 to the 800 port on the i7. Run Migration Assistant. 400 GB will still take a long time, but it will be closer to 8 hours I think.

If you try by Ethernet you can verify if the issue is with your WiFi network or if your appletv is defect as most users do not suffer as you do

    Good Afternoon Geraldine,
I understand you are wondering why you did not receive an email receipt instantly for an iBook purchase made on March 2nd.  Is this the first time you've noticed a delay?  I would suggest contacting the iTunes Support team to report the issue.  With your permission, they can access your account and possibly shed some light on this particular transaction.

  • HT1600 why does the apple TV say theres no connection when I have it?

Why does my apple TV want to recognize my internet password? and what does -39092 mean?

    Hi MLFO!
I have some information here that I believe will help you troubleshoot this issue a little further. The article is about Wi-Fi connections and the Apple TV, and can be found here:
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4546
Follow the steps provided in that article and you should be well on your way toward resolving this issue. It may also be necessary or helpful to reference this article as well, which contains some useful settings for your Wi-Fi router so that it will connect to iOS and OS X devices more easily:

  • TS4223 why does it take SO LONG to transfer a movie form my Mac to Apple TV. It tales like an hour. I cannot stream it in the meantime. Very frustrated.

why does it take so long to transfer a movie form iMac to apple TV hard dirve. This is crazy. it takes like an hour to move a movie that i rent on itunes on iMac to our apple TV. i am so tired of this i don't know what to do...

I have the exact same problem. I purchased apple tv several years ago, and every time I go to rent or buy a movie it takes anywhere from 3 to 7 hours to download the movie. There is no spur of the moment "hey lets rent a movie tonight" because I know it will take overnight to complete the download. I've checked my internet speed and it spot on. I've noticed other threads with people having the same problem but no one seems to have a solution.

  • Why does it take so long for my wireless printer to start printing from my MacBook?

Why does it take so long for my wireless printer (HP Photosmart C4700) to start printing from my MacBook?
It seems to take about 3 minutes to spool up printing from any program on my MacBook, but it will start instantly with my iPhone.

Anyone have any insight on this?

  • Why does it take so long to stream a purchased or rented film to my apple tv

Why does it take so long to stream a purchased or rented film to apple tv

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this atwww.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • HT201328 Why does it take so long for Apple to unlock an iPhone 3GS.

I have been trying to unlock my iPhone 3GS whrough my provider since 31st August, and they are still waiting for a information from Apple.  Why does it take so long? Surely this will put people (i.e. me) from getting another iPhone in the future.

The carrier unlocks the phones... once the carrier officially unlocks they send an email to apple... Apple's database picks up this info from the imei number... it's all done computerized. Apple has nothing to do with unlocking whatsoever!
The contract is between the customer and the carrier. It would be illegal for apple to unlock a phone considering Apple is not a part of any contract!
Apple is a manufactor and support for their products... not a carrier!
Carriers push this crap on Apple when they know good and well they are the ones who unlock! Customers can call Apple to see if it's unlocked, but it's a database... they have no way of unlocking or locking phones!

  • TS1398 After updating to ios 6 my iphone 4 would no longer connect to my home wifi. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password. However my wifi at home is password protected. I have the right password. It works on my ipod touc

After updating my iphone 4 with the ios 6 update. My iphone would no longer connect to my home wifi that is password protected. I know that I have the right password entered in. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password and I can connect no problem to it. My ipod touch has no problem connecting to my home wifi. It is a 3rd gen ipod and does not have the ios 6 update on it. Please help!

I'm having the same issues. Started when I upgraded iphone 4S and ipad1 to 5.1.1. Wife's iphone 4g on 4.4.2 has been ok. I've forgot the network on both devices and restored the iphone, none of which changed the issue. I've upgraded to ios 6 on the iphone 4s, problem still persists.
One thing that will help for a time: go to your router and change the wireless control channel. When I first did this I got full connectivity for about 48 hours... and now the problem is back. I'm now changing the wireless control channel every 12 hours, which is a pain but at least keeps me connected. I've tried a few other solutions that are out there and that has been the best one so far.
to do this on a motorola router: type 192.168.0.1 in your address bar.
username: admin and password:motorola if you have not changed the factory defaults.
Click on the word "wireless" and look for the "control channel" field. This may be set to auto or to 1, try changing it to 6 or 11 (preferred) or any other channel.
The control channel can cause static in the wireless system IF there are several networks nearby that are on the default setup.
There is a fair bit of buzz about this issue out there, some other things I've seen:
This is a hardware issue. Go to the store and have your wifi antenna checked, some users reporting that they get free replacement devices.
Check against other wifi networks that require a password (this is next for me). Logon to those networks and surf until your wifi stops. If your wifi connects to the internet but stops responding, then this is a software (or hardware) issue and apple needs to step up. Some are claiming this to be the case.
IF you connect and stay connected/on the internet on another password protected wifi, then the issue is with your router. this is where things get cute.
Comcast may tell you to update your firmware. Motorola may tell you that your cable provider is the only one who can push through firmware updates. Comcast may tell you that you are not in an area that is being updated. It's unclear if they say that to all customers, or just those who have purchased cable modems and aren't renting them from comcast.
Good luck, more to come if I figure out anything else, and please post any solutions you may find.

  • On my mac why does it take so long to send a Email with an attachment, on my mac why does it take so lone to send a Email with an attachment

on my mac why does it take so long to send a Email with an attachment, on my mac why does it take so lone to send a Email with an attachment

It depends on the size of the attachment and the speed of your internet connection.
Next time you send an email with an attachment do these two things:
In Apple Mail (I assume you are using Apple Mail), under the Window menu select Activity. Arrange the Activity window so you can see it.
Then open the separate application located in the Utilities folder called "Activity Monitor" and arrange it so you can see it at the same time as the Activity window in Mail.
In Activity Monitor program, select the tab labeled "Network." Watch the "Data sent/sec" portion. Then send your email, while watching the Mail Activity window and also the Activity Monitor program window Data sent/sec area.
You should see the mail being sent with a progress bar in the Mail Activity window and also you should be able to see how many bytes/sec or KB/sec or MB/sec your internet connection is giving you in the Activity Monitor window.
Example: my internet provider gives me about 20 Megabits per second download and 5 Megabits per second upload. To convert these to Megabytes per second (Activity Monitor shows things in bytes, not bits), simply divide by 10 (not the exact thing to do, but close enough). So I get 0.5 Megabytes per second upload speed. When I send a file that is 5 Megabytes in size, it takes about 10 seconds if I am getting the full upload bandwidth. If I am getting less than that (which sometimes happens), it will take proportionately more time. Either way, you can see what is happening with these two windows.
If your internet provider is supposed to give you, say, 5 Megabits/sec upload (0.5 Megabytes/sec), but you see only say, 5 KB/sec (=0.005 Megabytes/sec), sent in Activity Monitor, then your emails are taking a long time because you are getting only abut 1/100 the speed you should be. You might want to check with your internet provider about that.
