Why does my bluetooth keyboard fail to pair with my MacBook Air?

It did in the past until my laptop froze while initiating a personal hotspot.
The Bluetooth set-up assistant recoginizes the keyboard but will not pair.
The keyboard does however pair with my Apple TV and other MacBooks

First make sure the batteries aren't dead and that the keyboard hasn't already been paired with another device. If it hasn't, the keyboard should pair automatically when you reboot. You may have to press and hold the power button on the right side of an Apple keyboard until the LED starts flashing.
Otherwise see these support articles:

If you have a third-party Bluetooth keyboard, you may need a wired keyboard to complete the pairing process. It's a good idea to keep a cheap wired keyboard and mouse or trackball as backups for a desktop Mac anyway, because Bluetooth isn't completely reliable.

Apple Bluetooth keyboard won't pair with new iPad mini

I have same results. I have an ipad mini and it will not pair with my apple keyboard. I bought a mini keyboard with bluetooth 3.0 and it will not pair either.  Is my ipad defective?  Or do i need a keyboard with bluetooth 4.0?  Also - the mini keypad will pair with my ipad2 and my iphone 4.  Only difference I can find is the ipad mini has bluetooth 4.0.  Seems it should be downward compatible but maybe not.. • My iPhone 6 plus will not pair with my macbook air 2014

My iPhone 6 plus gives a message unsuccessful not supported when I try and pair with my macbook air.
both are running up to date iOS and OS X.

An iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7722
If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. The following may help with Handoff/Continuity issues: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5458

  • Does wireless Key board Model # A1016 work with the Macbook air?

I have an old Apple wirless key board Model # A1016, I am trying to pair it with my Macbook air. Doesn't seem to be working, does anyone know if it is even compatible or not?

My understanding is that the BWI uses an 802.11b wireless standard that is perfectly compatible with the built-in reception that the MBA has.
Is there anything that would lead you to doubt the compatibility?

  • HT1619 I can't get my remote to pair with my Macbook air

Just got a new Macbook air and a remote. I changed the battery, followed the directions in the booklet (press the right button) and then the one on line (simultaneously press menu and fast forward) and neither worked. Does the remote not work with the MacBook Air?

At the risk of offering too simple of a possible solution,

  • My Bluetooth keyboard will not pair with os7 after working perfectly before the update

My iPad mini won't pair with my Bluetooth keyboard anymore after updating to os7

Forget the device again, then turn off bluetooth on your iPad, then turn both the iPad and the keyboard completely off. Wait 30 seconds to one minute. Now turn on your iPad and turn on bluetooth. Turn on your keyboard and pair them up again.

  • I don't want my iphone paired with my macbook air, but it is.

... and I can't find a way to unpair it!
When I click on the Bluetooth icon on my computer with OSX 10.9 , I get this list:
As you can see, a device called 'iPhone' is connected. If I disconnect it, it automatically reconnects in a few seconds.
(Also on the list is 'Sam Pieter's iPhone', which is apparently not connected)
I open Bluetooth Preferences and see this:
Just two devices: my mouse and my phone. Why is that 'iPhone' not in this list?
When I turn my phone's bluetooth off, both the mystery device and my phone are gone from the list:
So, the devices 'iPhone' and 'Sam Pieter's iPhone' apparently are the same.
On my 4S iPhone, when I go in the bluetooth settings, I see one device, my computer called SPSvL, and it's 'Connected'. There's no 'i' information button that I can click on in order to 'forget this device':
How can I get rid of this Bluetooth connection?

  • Will any wireless keyboard and mouse work with the Macbook Air?

I just need to know if my existing keyboard/mouse will work or if I need to purchase new.

  • Why my Apple Wireless Keyboard (2007) wont pair with my Imac mid 2011 (MacOS 10.7.4)?

Hi there and thanks in advance for the support.
Now we have an apple wireless keyboard 2007 and an Imac mid 2011 with Mac OS X 10.7.4 that won't connect. We had the keyboard the IMac brought but now it's lost and we need to get our old wireless keyboard to work with it.
It's discoverable (we know this because it blinks and appears on the devices list on the BT setup assistant) but it wont pair or even give us the "enter the passcode" to try. We tried the "do not use a passcode with this device" and then the following comes out "the pairing attempt was unsuccessful. This configuration of Mac OS X and Bluetooth software could be invalid or unsupported."
What can we do? It sounds like you guys in apple development didn't create this connecting option. Is it true?
Buying a new one is no option nor for our pockets neither our moral. Please let us know about solutions.
    Gracias

Might be corrupted Bluetooth preferences ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy and paste the following:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file to the Trash
Make sure the keyboard has fresh batteries then try pairing the keyboard.
If that didn't help, update your Mac's software to v10.7.5. Open System Preferences > Software Update > Check Now
Restart your Mac after the updates are installed, then try pairing again.

  • Why does installing Flash Drive fail every time on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.8)?

For many months now, I have not been able to update my Flash Drive. I finally tried to uninstall it. I followed the uninstall guidelines on this site. I still cannot install Flash Drive. The same failed message report pops up that popped up when I would try to update Flash Drive. It says it has failed and asks if I'd like to "Relaunch" or "Report to Apple."
I have a MacBook Pro with an OS X 10.5.8 operating system, and it is up to date.

    Hi kelsey,
As Kaewngam indicates, Flash Player is no longer supported on OS X 10.5.8.  You can download 10.3 from the Archived Flash Player versions page, which was the last supported version for 10.5.8, however, most sites require a newer version of Flash Player to view content.  You may be able to upgrade to OS X 10.6 if your system qualifies. See here for system requirements, System requirements for OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6 The 10.6 CD should be available on the Apple store ($19.99) . You can Google 'upgrading OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6' and it'll return loads of information.

  • My Apple bluetooth keyboard will not reconnect with my MacBook Pro...

It's been working flawlessly until this morning...I tried everything.  It's still listed under devices but keeps giving an error message for connecting. New batteries and all.  I rebooted my comp and also tried the erasing of keyboard in the previous BT devices list.  I've been battling with this for over 3 hours now, any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Try resetting the SMC.

  • Does the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter work with a MacBook Air that's been updated to Lion?

I saw a comment at the online Apple store that the USB Ethernet Adapter didn't work with Lion. Anyone else have experience with the adapter?

Just point the tech rep to the apple website that lists the Ethernet to USB system requirements as:
    "Overview
The Apple USB Ethernet Adapter is a simple, one-piece external adapter that plugs into the USB 2.0 port of your MacBook Air to provide 10/100BASE-T performance. Simply plug your Ethernet cable into the RJ-45 connector — no external power is required. It’s small, light, easy to install, and even easier to use.
