Why does my book have a lot of 'A's in the text?

I am new to this. I bought a Sony Ereader and successfully bought a book from WHSmiths (somebody has to and I wanted to test it out) and transferred it to the PRS600 with the Sony Elibrary software. Then I bought a book from Waterstones but first had to download and install Adobe Digital Editions which seems to be exactly the same as Elibrary. So now I have 2 libraries going. However when I transferred the latest book I noticed that the letter A kept cropping up in the text especially where there were mathematical equations and always in front of the £ sign. As the book is on maths this is not good so I phoned the Waterstones helpline who said the computer wasn't authorised although the software says it is. They've let me download the book another 2 times but the result is the same. Does this happen normally in the world of ebooks or do I have a problem ? Any advice gratefully received.

If you can view the book at all in ADE (or the Sony EBL), then it's authorized to you. If it's not authorized there will be an error: a dialog that says the book is not authorized to you (ADE), or the infamous "Protected Page" error (on the Sony Reader). (I'm not sure what Sony EBL does).
The A seems funny. ADE will replace glyphs that it can't find in the current font with a question mark (or sometimes boxes). This is an indication that the creator of the PDF or ePub file did not embed the font for character in either the embedded or default fonts.
Do the A's appear in ADE, or just on the Sony Reader?

If the keyboard is split and covering your text, Pull the two ends of the keyboard together - into the middle of the screen. You can also tap and hold down on the little keyboard icon in the lower right corner of the keyboard and select - Dock and Merge.
If the keyboard is up on the middle of the screen, but not split, and you want to move it back to the bottom - tap and hold down on the little keyboard and icon and select - Dock
You can turn the split keyboard off in Settings>General>Keyboard>Split Keyboard>Off.

Perhaps I should have given more detail. The device works the way it works. Listing every chapter is part of the normal behaviour, and often not in a useful order which is the main thrust of that article. However it does point out that you can use one of the various free/cheap tools available to stitch the individual files into a single audiobook file which is what iDevices really expect to receive.
Alternatively you could use a smart playlist which matches a particular title and only includes files with a play count of zero to make it easier to locate the current chapter. I don't recall ever trying this so I'll have a go and see how it works out.

The answer is very simple; the Viewer shows the media at its native resolution while the Canvas shows the media at the Sequence resolution. I'd bet that in your case, the original media is of higher resolution that the Sequence in the Timeline.

Make Sure iOS is updated to the latest version
Reboot the device by pressing and holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons (power) at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings

Here's what I had to do, no thanks to the others on here who go at it like Apple, delete and restore.
No, you don't have to delete and restore. Just open a folder on your computer, call it something like iPad music, keep it open, open iTunes, select all your music, copy and paste it in the folder you just created, delete all your music from iTunes (relax, you just copied it into that folder). Select all the music in that folder, drop it back onto your playlist. Now, I renamed my playlist, because it was called untitled, originally, so if that doesn't work, rename, or delete and recreate your playlist, copy the music back over, sync, and they will play.
Worked for me, anyhow. Good luck!

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Thanks for the zip code pfekete. I looked into the coverage in your area and I do see you are in an extended 1X data coverage which explains why you're not connecting to 3G. What phone do you have? We may be able to advise you on how to adjust the settings so it picks up the strongest signal. I apologize for the inconvenience.
