Why does my G4 Tower keep freezing

Using Tiger and Panther my g4 tower has continued to freeze more and more frequently. The freezing occurs at random moments, independent of anything I'm doing and affects the whole computer, not just the mouse and keyboard...everything freezes! I have tried clean re-installing the OS a few times and it still comes back. I also regularly use the program Applejack in single user mode, which seemed to reduce the freezing but now it has come back with equal and ever-increasing voracity! The computer was purchased in 2002. Surely there has to be a way to cure this. Does anyone know what it is, other than a really annoying disease!
Any suggestions more than welcome.
Ross

heyup
to answer your questions...
There is about 50GB free space left on the 80GB hard drive.
General info
Machine model - PowerMac3.6
CPU type - PowerPC G4(2.1)
Number of CPUs - 2
L2 Cache(per CPU) - 256KB
L3 Cache (per CPU) - 1MB
Memory - 512 MB
Bus peed - 167Mhz
Boot ROM version - 4.4.8f2
I guess this info in the list specifies the variant.
I'm not sure how to test how much RAM is being used at a particular moment but it's not like it's freezing during heavy processes - it's only being used for word processing at the mo.
Hope you can help furtherly

  • Why does my new iMac keep freezing for no apparent reason?

Why does my new iMac keep freezing? This usually happens when it is not being used and is particularly frustrating when I do need to use it and ahve to switch off and then on again and wait for it to reboot.
I am not computer literate so keep any answers as simple and idiot friendly as possible. I treat it like a car. If I put in the key and turn the ignition on and the enginesprings into life I am content. If not.............. well!

In order to provide any help we need to understand a little bit more about the problem you are experiencing.
You indicated the issue occurs when the sytem is not being used. Does this mean that you stop working on the system and the system 'goes to sleep' where the screen goes black, but when you need to wake it back up by pressing keys on the keyboard or clicking the mouse the system doesn't wake back up? To test for this issue open the System Preferences and click on the Energy Saver preferences. See the 'Computer Sleep' slider to the far right 'Never' setting. You can set the 'Display sleep' setting to any number you prefer. With these settings see if the issue still occurs and let us know the results. If it resolves the issue then give Apple a call and let them know you are unable to wake the system when it goes to sleep. You shouldn't be having that issue.

  • Why does my Flash Player keep freezing during video play back?

I have the very lastest version for Windows 7 64bit OS and it keeps freezing during video play back.  The previous versions did not do this. I have to keep the cursor moving inside the video window to prevent the player freezing.  I have deslected HARDWARE ACCELERATION and it does not help.  Why is this happening and how do I correct this situation?

Right click ANY Flash content and choose "Setings".
Click the folder icon (center tab) and increase the storage to at least 10Mb.

  • Why Does My Curve 9300 Keep Freezing

Why does my BB Curve 9300 keep freezing?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The reason it's freezing all the time is you are out of application memory.
I recommend installing BlackBerry Desktop Software and making a full backup of the device. Then do a Security Wipe. You can do the wipe by going to Options and type security wipe in the search bar. Don't include the media card but include 3rd party apps. You can install those again later via BBWorld.
When it's done, you can restore only the databases you really need like email, calendar, contacts, etc.
When you're all done make sure that media is saved to the media card. I recommend getting a much bigger card so you have room for pictures and videos. You don't want that data saved on the device memory.

  • Why does my Iphone 4 keep freezing up, Apps will close with out notice, and will randomly restart?

I just got a used Iphone, and it keeps freezing every time I try to do anything. Every time I click on an app it will open for a second and then close right back out. It will randomly restart, and some times it will just freeze and the only way I can get it to turn off is to hold the home and power button. I have done factory restarts. I restarted the phone as a new iphone and still does the same thing. I havent downloaded any apps from the app store and have just left it completly stock and it still has the same issues. Any ideas?

If you already try to restore via iTunes I think it is an hardware problem.
You should contact apple support and request service.

  • Why does my iphone 4 keep freezing?

my iphone keeps freezing nothing will work why is this happening?

Clear the App from background memory, and then try it again.
Do not use the faulty App.
If this happens with all Apps, Restore iphone firmware with iTunes, when asked at end set up as New.
If still problems could be faulty battery, which will be covered by Warranty.

    Hello Ivory76
Start with the article below to troubleshoot issues with your iPad freezing on you. It will go from dealing with apps not responding to the device not responding. You may need to restore your iPad as a new device and test it that way.

  • HT1338 why does my macbook pro keep freezing up and how do I resolve it

macbook pro keeps freezing up...how do I resolve that issue

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. Do not post thousands of lines from the log. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

Can you tell us how much RAM  (Memory) you have? It's listed by clicking on the  in your title  bar....go to About This Mac and it's in the 1st window.
We would also like to know what size hard drive you have and how much free space is on it.
If you click on your Hard drive icon (should be upper right hand corner of your screen), or the Finder in your Dock...when the window opens it says at the bottom how much Free Space you have on your drive.
If you go to the , click on About This Mac, click on More Info... in that window. The next window says how big your hard drive is under Hardware....click on Serial-ATA.....look under Capacity:
We need to know this cause if a hard drive is too full it slows things down and creates operational difficulties.
