Is there any way to turn my iMac on in a silent way?
Not that it bothers me but sometimes there are other people in the same room trying to sleep.

StartupSound.prefPane mutes the startup sound without changing the output volume setting. And StartupSound.prefPane limits the startup volume so that it may not become loud even if you make the output volume louder. Your images are "disconnected"
that means they are not in the same place on your hard disk as they were when you imported them into Elements. There are a couple ways this can happen, mostly folks who use Windows to move images to a new location instead of Elements will run into this issue.
To fix it, you either need to move them back using Windows, or Reconnect them using Elements.
You didn't mention waht version you have, but it's done the same in all versions.

Why does my imac have finder problems

My iMac runs for a few minutes and thru a few apps (doesnt matter which ones) and the Finder craps out to a beachball. Cant Relaunch, cant reboot. OS is 10.6.8.

Thanks - turns out I have a HD with a "problem that cannot be repaired" says disc utility. So, if I cannot copy files off prior to erasing the disc, will an Apple Genius Bar have the ability to pull my files in a way that I do not?

Why does my iMac now ask for my login and password when trying to drag anything to the trash?

Hello,
I have the new iMac and am now having issues trying to delete anything off my desktop. It is telling me that Finder wants to make changes when I try to drag anything to the trash. I have to constantly resubmit my login and password and then the item just disappears, does not remain in the trash to be emptied later.
I am not sure what happened because it never acted like this. All of my software updates are current and I don't get why my Trash is no longer working as it used to.
Any advice?

Why does my iPad have yellow like spots on the screen when the screen is on dark images.?

When I open dark images, my iPad has this yellow like spots around the screen next to the bezel. It only happens when there is a dark screen like for instance when a YouTube video is loadeding or when I have dark pictures. Is this normal.? Or should I take it to the Apple Store.?

first of all was your ipad dropped on a hard floor or something if not then you should just take it to apple as that is not normal you should probably get the device replaced

The past couple of time that I turn on my computer, it gives me the option to choose Microsoft or Recovery harddrives (I'm guessing). I properly shut my computer down the last time I used it. After I choose Microsoft, I then give me the option to choose my regular account and log-in as usual. What could be the problem that would cause this to happen?

IMac won't start and making loud noises

When I start my iMac, the fan makes a really loud noise, it goes onto a grey screen showing a folder and a flashing question mark and face. My mac is a few years old and has lines going down the screen. Wondered if there was anything I could do to save it?

Before hauling a heavy computer to an Apple store, make sure you know how old it is, or the exact model. Apple only works on computers made in roughly the last five years, and the iMacs in this forum--G3, G4, and G5 models-- were all made prior to 2006. The description of the vertical lines sounds like a G5.

Thanks for the zip code pfekete. I looked into the coverage in your area and I do see you are in an extended 1X data coverage which explains why you're not connecting to 3G. What phone do you have? We may be able to advise you on how to adjust the settings so it picks up the strongest signal. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Do you mean the external hard drive is not mounted on the iMac desktop?
Check if Disk Utility sees the drive. Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility. If the external shows up in the left column, select it and click on Mount.
If it does show up this way, I recommend using DU to Repair Disk.

1. Why does color not have a 1440x1080 Resolution preset? Im using ProRes HQ in FCP and clips at 1440x1080. But when they come out of Color they are 1920x1080? I notice from color there is no 1440x1080 Res preset so strange?
2. In addition ive also noticed that I dont have the choice of 'Original Codec' in the render codec settings. Only ProRes, ProRes HQ, Uncompressed 8bit and 10bit. SO i use the higher quality 10bit.

Ok, I class myself as a patient person and not one to fly off the handle. However, Color is testing me to the limits. I cannot work out for the life of me how this application is trying to handle my footage.
I sending 1440x1080 thats been encoded 1440x1080 50i. This footage is ending up in the Color pref settings or as 1920x1080!! Secondly when I send this back to FCP obviously my Sequence will have changed to match 1920x1080.. thus up scaling the whole project! Then if that weren't enough, taking a look at the data-rates in the clip settings of the Color Sequence they read in excess of 131.5 mb/s My HDD give up immediately! (Is one supposed to render the timeline first once this footage is back from color? - i dont just mean because of the transitions etc)
Now.. to yet further confuse the issue I then do a Render ALL in FCP and the Color Sequence plays back fine though still with the wrong Resolution of 1920x1080?
to be frank, i just dont know where to start with this.. it seems 1 step forward 3 steps back each time. I can appreciate Im new to this but I thought I knew enough not to encounter such petty problems as just setting Color up for import/export. Im going to say it... Is this a Color problem or what? I dont think there are many of you using PAL with HDV into ProRes HQ or ProRes so I guess its going to have to be a £200 call to Apple? .. Which I probably wont do..

Why does my 3GS have a white screen sometimes, and I have to lock the screen for it to go back to lock screen? Sometimes I have to attempt the lock screen several times, and it still doesn't work. I, then, attempt to restart it by powering it down, and the lock screen will appear again. The display goes out sometimes while I am on a call, and I can't hang up. I have to go through this hole process over and over again.

The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
