Why does my iMac suddenly fail to automatically go in to sleep mode?

Had difficulty booting up system one day. Screensaver comes on after period of non-use, then black screen when display goes away, However, I no longer get "breathing" white light at right hand corner of screen, even though the screen goes black. Tech support instructed me to perform start, apple key, options p, then r. ( In order to reset PRAM.) Light will only "breathe" when it is manually placed into sleep mode; NOT when it is left alone to do it by itself. Does anyone know why this is occuring? Many thanks

FIXED!
The IP address of the printer had changed. I printed a new Configuration Page from the printer, which contains the IP address. I then entered the new IP address into my iMac. The iMac was then able to 'see' the printer and I can now print.
The HP forums solved this for me.

  • Why does Media Encoder suddenly fail so often?

I often will break up a project into several shorter clips and send them to the queue in Media Encoder.  Lately, when I go to encode the files, Media Encoder will get through 2 or 3, and then I'll see a yellow trianglw with an exclamation point next to one of the clips and the word "fail" next to that.  If I save my queue, exit Media Encoder, restart Media Encoder, reset that clip's status and start encoding again, it will work fine for another few clipws and then fail again.  It only started doing this recently.  The program gives me no information about what is causing the failure.  what can I do to address this?

Seriously, you can't run a Mac with only 85 MB of free hard drive space. It's not quite as bad as KBs, but it's still dismall.
Can you go click on your Hard Drive icon (right hand upper corder of your screen?  At the same time as you click, press down the letter " i " key at the same time.  You will get a screen with your HD Capacity, Used space, & Available space.  Please let us know what your numbers are:

  • Why does my iMac keep freezing when I get it to sleep?

I've installed SL and have several problems, but the one major one is that, whenever I put the machine to sleep, it freezes leaving a black screen relieved only by that blasted spinning beachball.
Does anyone know what I can do about this?

PS: To avoid confusion, I have what I thought was a G5 but it's actually an Intel-based machine after all

Two calls to support and a visit to the Genius Bar couldn't solve this. Then I finally figured out what was going wrong.
For some reason the Snow Leopard install changed my screensaver settings to show/point to photos in iPhoto. Then when my system tried to go to screensaver mode the whole system was freezing up (black screen with spinning wheel) when it tried to access iPhoto's photos. My guess is that since iPhoto is such a memory hog and normally can take a while to load that something wacky was going on with the screensaver trying to access it.
The minute I changed my screensaver settings to something else other than iPhoto I stopped having the freezing problem.

Why does my ipod suddenly stop playing?

is your battery charged?  How many songs do you have on the playlist (if you are playing a  playlist when it stops)?   I know that when the earbud wires are accidentally disconnected from the ipod body, the music stops automatically.

  • Why does my iMac display go off when I am starting up or waking up my machine from sleep..

Why does my iMac display go off when I am starting up or waking up my machine from sleep..?
When my iMac goes to sleep I then later try to click the magic track pad or keyboard and it will usually then show the initial password entry login screen and then go off. The machine is still on but the display is black and will sometimes flash up the screen again if I press the magic track pad or keyboard but will then black out again..

Well, there are many different reasons why it does this. It might shut off due to power voltage problems, system overheats, or there is a System Problem. The reason it might be hard to boot up is because your power button might not work properly or your system hard drive is damaged.

Why does my iPad2 suddenly keep losing connection on FaceTime and tries to constantly reconnect?

Does it happen anywhere that you use FaceTime or only in your home WiFi network? If it happens with your home network, have you tried power cycling your router? Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
Turn WiFi off and on in the settings. Reset the network settings.
Have you tried any troubleshooting steps at all?

  • Why does my iMac appear many times in my network and labelled 1,2,3, etc

why does my iMac appear many times in my network and labelled 1,2,3, etc

    Ok, I solved it.
    I followed this steps:
1- Turn Off Wi-Fi from the Wireless menu item
2- From the OS X Finder, hit Command+Shift+G and enter the following path:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
3- Within this folder locate and select the following files:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

com.apple.network.identification.plist
    com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist

    NetworkInterfaces.plist

    preferences.plist
4- Move all of these files into a folder on your Desktop called ‘wifi backups’ or something similar – we’re backing these up just in case you break something but if you regularly backup your Mac you can just delete the files instead since you could restore from Time Machine if needed.
    5- Reboot the Mac
6- Turn ON WI-Fi from the wireless network menu again

Why does my iMac display keep shutting off?  Computer still running in the background.  I've tried unplugging and restarting, to no avail.    The computer is well out of warranty - about 7-8 years old, running 10.6.8

Checked.... the settings had not been inadvertently changed, but I did move the scroll and reset them back to the original.   Hasn't shut off again.... yet.   Will re-post with follow-up one way or the other.   Thanks.
