Why does my iMessage and FaceTime randomly switch off?

It seems that my iPhone 4 has decided that it wants to randomly switch of iMessage and Factime at random points during the day. This has only happened since the os 5.0.1 upgrade! I have not reset it because i have heard that this does not work! I have tried just using my phone number, then just my apple id account, then both together on the settings for both, but it is still randomly switching off.
Does anyone have a solution/fix to this problem?????

I've never heard of anyone having this issue before so I can't say whether or not resetting it will help. However, it's a simple, painless, less than 5 minute procedure so why wouldn't you try?
I don't know what Apple has to acknowledge as it doesn't seem to be a particularly common problem. Yours is the first post I've seen on the issue.

    both services send a silent SMS (one that is not listed anywhere on your device) containing a configuration request to an Apple server. This server then responds with the needed configuration details. It can take some (from a few minutes to several hours) time for this answer to come. Also if for whatever reason text send/receive is not working properly, iOS can get stuck on the "waiting for activation" message.

    Backup phone in iTunes . On your phone, Go to Settings, General, reset, Erase All Content and Settings. Restore as new on iTunes . Then restore your phone from the backup in iTunes.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro keep randomly shutting off with or without the adapter?

    I had this problem before that my 13-inch Macbook Pro would stop working without the plug, and then it started resetting its clock to 2000 every time i rebooted it until it eventually died altogether. I found out that my data cable was bad and got it replaced.
    Now, it works completely fine except that it will randomly shut off without warning, even if it's plugged in.
    I don't know if it means anything, but I'm currently using a Macbook Air adapter.
    It's actually shut off while I was typing this post. Incredibly frustrating.

    I think (let others bust my chops if I'm wrong) that the MBA uses a 60W MagSafe Power Adapter, whereas the MBP uses an 85W MagSafe Power Adapter. That could be causing problems.

    the lock button has not been working.. i was using my phone, put it down for like 30 seconds and wont turn back on!

    Are you using a case to protect the iPhone? If you are try taking it off and seeing if the button works normally then.
    If you don't have a case on the iPhone, try restarting or restoring the iPhone.
    If that doesn't take care of it, the iPhone will need service.

    Okay.  We have three Ipads in our house with only one Itunes account.   When I go into imessaging and facetime on each of the devices, it wants to start switching my wife's cell phone and then the three emails associated with each Ipad to the contact information for all of the Ipads.    As of this morning, only the imessaging and facetime are turned on my wife's iphone and ipad.   My kids imessaging and facetime is turned off.     Do you really have to have an itunes account for each device to make then work???    Any help would be very much appreciated.

    There is only one solution. Each user must have their own separate user account. All of their respective data would be contained in their separate user accounts. This also means each will have a separate iTunes Library. If you all use the same third-party apps, then each will have to purchase their own copies under their own Apple IDs. Some data sharing is possible. See:

  • IMessage and Facetime Not Activiating!

    I have bought a new iPhone 4s a couple of weeks ago; Facetime and iMessageworked for a couple of days then stopped. I've been trying to activate them fordays but I can't.
    I've read tens of posts in here and on other discussion boards and I havetried every possible solution from resetting my phone, changing e-mail address,using 8.8.8.8 as DNS, deleting messages, etc... yet I failed to activateiMessage or Facetime.
    Help please, my friends have the same phone and we are on the same carrierand their iMessage is working fine, I want to use it as well but this isextremely disappointing!

    Make sure imessage and facetime are both off
    1 - check your phone number is correct in Setting, Phone, My Number
    2 - go to facetime turn it on, and wait for activation to complete
    3 - go to message turn on and activate.
    basically if your phone number is wrong or blank you will not be able to activate.

    Do you think that apple has to   reset in their database of the old serial number attached with my phone number and that’s why I can´t activate imessage and facetime with my number in the new iphone 4s?? 

    I understand all of this Meg; that is why I bought an Iphone; but never expected my phone not even give a at least a 24 or even 12 hours....I work 12 hour shifts and also would expect to have to charge each night but not twice a day or more.  I am not always somewhere I can charge my phone.

    I have set them both up with their own email addresses for iMessage and Facetime on their iPod touches.  Why does it keep erasing that information and showing "no addresses" in send and receive in settings?  Very frustrating...they can't iMessage or Facetime...and they were able to before.  Is this because of a system update thing????

    I do not suspect it is due to updating.Could your kids just be deleting them?
    To prevent deleting them go to Settings>General>Restrictions and set the Restrictions that prohibits changing accounts.
