Why does my iPad 3 fail to connect to the Internet via a MiFi 4510L?

On Sunday, I ran many tests under the guidance of a senior Verizon engineer to try to determine why the Verizon MiFi4510L mobile hotspot will not connect to the network on a third-generation iPad.
In the course of our tests, we:
1. Updated the firmware on the MiFi to the latest Novatel release: 2.23
2. Tested the MiFi4510L with an iPad2, an iPhone 4 and the latest generation iTouch. In each case, they connected flawlessly to the network and held the connection.
3. Removed the MiFi4510L from the new iPad(3) and re-installed to make sure the password was correctly set.
4. Confirmed that the MiFi4510L unit was running the latest encryption software that the Apple iPad in fact supports. The Verizon security setting is WPA2 Personal/PSK (AES).
5. Reset the MiFi4510L unit.
6. Simultaneously power re-started the iPad and the MiFi4510L.
The IPad(3) finds and marks the MiFi4510L in the network queue. It then toggles between connected and not connected every couple of seconds or so in the setting panel. One never encounters a check mark to indicate that there is a solid signal. The MiFi4510L “sees” the iPad3 (confirmed by a bottom dot.) It can handle as many as 5 “dots” simultaneously.
I have tested the new iPad(3) with my home network, which runs on two bridged Apple Extreme routers connected to a Verizon FiOS base unit. It works fine.
So … Everything points to the conclusion that the iPad(3) has broken the connection to the MiFi4510L for some still unknown reason. Verizon is emphatic is its view that their unit is OK. If they are right it would mean that every buyer of the new iPad who attempts to connect wirelessly to the Internet through a MiFi4510L – and there would lots of them -- is going to encounter the same problem that I have encountered.

I am having the same exact issue.  I just purchased the new ipad yesterday.  I can get the iPad to connect to my home Comcast network.  I can get my iPhone and computer to connect to the MiFi4510L but not the new iPad.  I know it works because my son's works on his MiFi4510L.
I've also "forgot the network" on the iPad.  Turned everything off and reinstalled the network after restarting both units.
I called Verizon which said it's the iPad because I can get to the iPhone and my computer.  I then called Apple who said it's the Mifi because I can get on my home network.
Allansch, did you ever find the answer to the problem?  Anyone else have any ideas????
I have an iHeadach!

  • My iphone 5 won't make a call when i fail to connect to the internet via 3g

My iphone 5 won't call when i fail to connect to the internet via 3g.
At work i dont have wifi i have 3g, if i launch say the sky go app,or the iplayer, sometimes they work and everything is fine...sometimes they wont load as 3g for whatever reason cant get a connection at that particular time........ if i then try and make a call the call will fail. I've experimented 25 + times and this is definately the cause.
(note: when the 3g connection does work, the phone has absolutely no problem calling people)
    Anyone had this problem?
Even better has anyone got a solution?
    Thanks,
    Nick.

Are you sure that the carrier's signal is strong where you are having this problem? Certain building structures and locations have poor cellular signal strength and this often results in the "No Service" indication. Are other users able to get service in the same locations where you have problems?

  • Why can't I no longer connect to the Internet via my AirPort Extreme Base?

I suddenly can no longer connect to the Internet through my AirPort Extreme. Everything was fine until this morning. My Base Station is connected to a DSL modem and then my computer connects to the Internet wirelessly through the Base Station. The center light is on in the Base Station. The left light flickers telling me there is wireless activity. I can still access my printer through the Base Station. But the right light is no longer flickering. I have rebooted everything several times. Does anyone have insight into this problem. This is the second time this has happened. For over a month I could not access the Internet through the Base Station, and then suddenly and arbitrarily it started working again. This morning it just stopped again.

I've had the same problem - mine started after I upgraded to 10.4.8 on my MacBook a week or so ago.
I can see other networks around my home and when I travel, but can only connect via ethernet cable (and my ISP is comcast - I thought the upgrade was supposed to help make connecting with comcast better).
My G3 has no problem connecting, so I don't think it's exactly a problem with my modem, or base station, or even comcast. I think it has something to do with my base station and upgrading to 10.4.8. Btw, dropping back to 10.4.6 hasn't helped.

  • Why won't my Power Book connect to the internet via Airport (AEBS) ?

Since getting a new Broadband provider and ADSL modem (before I had cable modem which worked perfectly) which is cabled up to my EMAC (with Airport card) I cannot connect my Power Book to the internet ? I have reconfigured and hopefully set the preferences correctly on both computers i.e. Personal Web sharing- On, Internet sharing -On etc.
I can send files between the two computers and they connect to my network fine, but the Power Book cannot get the internet. Can anyone please help ?

Personal Web Sharing is not necessary.
I believe VickyMC is using her eMac to share the Internet account to her PowerBook. She has Personal Web Sharing enabled so that the ports are opened to allow access through the eMac to the Internet.

Why does my iPad say " No SIM " in the upper left corner ?

    Hi Edwardtracey,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
It sounds like you have a cellular data plan and there is no service where you currently are.
The article below will explain this feature and how to turn the setting on/off.
The article has more details and screenshots, but I've quoted highlights below for you:
iOS: About the Cellular Data setting
Cellular data is used for data communication in cellular networks. It does not affect your ability to make or receive phone calls or to use Wi-Fi networks for Internet connectivity. If you turn off cellular data, you will be unable to:
See the cellular data icons in the status bar (for example, LTE or 3G).
Send or receive MMS messages. However, you can still send and receive SMS and iMessages if you're connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Retrieve or listen to new Visual Voicemail messages. To retrieve these messages, enable Cellular Data.
    Use Personal Hotspot.
You can adjust this setting by going to:
    iPad: Settings > Cellular
    Additional Information
You can also enable or disable cellular data for certain iOS features from this setting:
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

    Hello,
The reason is that, with legacy (e.g., pre-BB10) devices, the device itself does not do all of the work to provide you with your services. Rather, there is infrastructure (BlackBerry Internet Service - BIS) hosted at the carriers/BlackBerry that provides linkages between your device and certain services. This includes, among many things, email...unlike non-BB smartphones, the BlackBerry on-device email client is not a "full" email client; it depends on BIS in order to provide the "push" email capability that BBs rely on.
This BIS infrastructure is unique to BlackBerry, and only services BB users. Hence, it costs extra for the carriers to provide services for BB users, and therefore they can demand from their BB users a higher cost dedicated service plan so as to enable those proprietary services for the BB users. (In some markets, there is no extra charge for BIS...but the requirement for BIS nevertheless remains in all markets for legacy BB users.)
So, this is not a "problem" per se...but rather a difference between BlackBerry devices/services and others. One could instead think of it as a "market discriminator", favoring BlackBerry (only for those who desire such, of course).
With BB10 (Z10, Q10, Q5), BIS has been eliminated btw.
    Good luck!

  • Safari cannot open page because ipad is not connected to the internet

Hi, I updated too iOS7 recently and everything was fine (except iBooks!) until yesterday, when I got the message saying "Safari could not open the page ... because your iPad is not connected to the internet." I'm using wireless connection, and my iMac is working with no problem. Have tried most suggested things here like rebooting, resetting all settings etc. but am getting nowhere. Would appreciate any assistance, Thank you.

    reset network settings...settings>gen>reset>reset network..
    if that does not work.
    backup the device on itunes.
    restore with itunes.
setup as new on the device. then try it.
if it works try restoring from the backup,, if it does not work after that then the backup as a bug.
you then would set the device up as new again and just use it without the back up

  • My first generation iPad is not connecting to the internet! any helpful tips?

my first generation iPad is not connecting to the internet! any helpful tips?

Have you done a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
If that does not help, go to Settings and turn WiFi off.  Make sure you are not in AirPlane Mode and turn WiFi back on and see if it shows the wireless networks that are available.

  • My Ipad (3rd Gen) has stopped connecting to the internet via Wifi - please help

Ipad will not connect to home wifi network, first I get the error message "safari could not open the page becasue the server stopped working" then after about 5 minutes, Safari cannot open the page.......because your iPad is not connected to the Internet.
Wifi is working (able to connect through Laptop) however, iPad, iPhone and my old iPod Touch all show the same error message.
Have turned iPad Wifi off and back on, nothing, have also tried "forget network", "renew lease" and "reset network settings"I have also completed soft reset of iPad (held down Home Screen button and stand by button) No improvement.
I have turned wireless router off, I have also disabled security on router to see if this is an issue and still get the same message.
