Why does my iPhone 4 turn itself off and is very difficult to restart

My iPhone 4 is less than a year old but has developed the habit of turning itself off after a few hours of un-use and is extremely difficult to turn on again. It seems the only way to restart it is to hold the on/off and sleep/awaken buttons on simultaneously for many seconds. Very frustrating AND I sometimes miss important calls - help please!

Do you have a case on it that might be pressing your power on button or might press your power on button inadvertently when you touch it.

  • My iPhone turned itself off and won't come on or charge, after I already restarted it once

My iPhone 5s has turned itself off and won't come on or charge again I have already restarted it by holding the on/off switch and home button and it come back on and was working fine, but after an couple of hours it's turned itself back off again!! And won't let me restart it again. I don't know what's caused it as it was working fine yesterday and I hadn't dropped it or gotten it wet, what else can I do??

A phone that is turned off wont receive calls. You could try to do a couple things: plug it in (even though it is fully charged), press and hold the power button down extra hard. Press and hold the power AND home buttons extra hard. Take it to the apple store.

Can anyone help me. My phone turned off and then once I put it on charge it came up to plug into iTunes to configure and once I do this iTunes does not pick it up, it will not reset either =(

Try restarting your iPhone by holding down the on/off and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo.  If you are still having problems take a look at this link, http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/

  • My iPhone turned itself off and wont turn back on

I put my phone down on my desk the battery was at about 60 some odd percent, i come back from getting water and the phone is off, i have plugged it in, held the top and home button at the same time, held the top button only and nothing is turning it back on, any idea whats going on?? or what to do?
    thanks

Charge it for 15 minutes with the wall charger, then hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons for at leat 15 seconds or until an Apple logo appears.
If that fails or nothing happens at all the phone is broken. If something happens (like any sort of screen display) but the phone does not restart within 5 minutes see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Try resetting the iPod.  Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can also try another cable and usb port.

  • Why does iTunes keep turning itself on and how do I stop this annoying problem?

I am using an iMac running 10.6.8 and iTunes just randomly starts.  Is there an easy fix to this?  So far my solution has been to remove iTunes from my computer and reloading it.  Same thing happens.

Check Dashboard to see if you have any iTunes-related widgets running. If so, close them and see if that makes a difference. Similarly, look for any third-party apps that may be related to iTunes, such as apps that copy "now playing" information to a web site.
Another possibility is external speakers, if you have them. Another user here found that a loose speaker connection may cause random launching and playing on iTunes. Try wiggling the speaker plug and see if that causes iTunes to launch.  If so, unplugging and reconnecting the speakers may cure the problem. If not, you may have a defective speaker jack or an off-size plug on the speakers.
    Hope this helps.

Hi that worked for me! I thought it was a battery problem. I knew if I came to the Apple iPhone forum I'd find the answer. Now I've got to find some answers on increasing the battery charge as my phone is dead by 8 PM and I charge it fully every night!

iPhone turned itself off and won't turn back on

Nope you won't lose any data, it just like restarting your PC.
to back up look at this link  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
also I would import your photos over to your PC and a secondary back up, you can always sync those pics back using Itunes  heres a link on how to do that http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

  • Why does my 1st gen iPad always turns itself off and goes back to the screen. Whether I'm reading news, iBooks, etc, suddenly it goes off.

Why does my 1st gen iPad always turns itself off and goes back to the screen. Whether I'm reading news, iBooks, etc, suddenly it goes off.

If that doesn't help, the battery may be dying and need replacement. See here (tap on Battery Replacement): http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad
Alternately, might consider start saving for a new iPad. The newest iPad 6 should come out in the next few months. When it does, sellers will want to get rid of old inventory with good deals.
