Why does my iphone need wifi to download and install new software update!?
While other iphones can do that with their cellular internet

Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.

Note: This will reset all network settings including

Why does my iPhone 4S WiFi keeps shutting off?

This is the SECOND black iPhone 4S with problems with WiFi once the IOS 8 updated is downloaded. So frustrating!
Just after the IOS 8 update was available, I updated my black iPhone 4S. Soon after, I experienced a hot battery, screen freezes, and the screen toggle button for WiFi was grayed out. I called Apple support and they tried to help me. Very pleasant! After about 30 minutes, we concluded to reset the phone back to the original factory settings. This fix did not work and the Apple tech told me about purchasing a new replacement phone. Mind you, the 4S was less than two years old. Not long after, I went into my cellular carrier and they agreed to provide me with a new Apple iPhone 4S. The new one worked just fine for several months. Now, that 4S has begun freezing up, and the WiFi screen toggle is again grayed. Again, so frustrating!
I am mentioning the BLACK 4S only because my wife has the white 4S and it has not experienced any issues, even with the IOS 8 updates.
I need help please! This cannot be a coincidence that two separate black 4S phones each have an issue with the WiFi toggle.

I haven't updated my phone in about a year it seems because I didn't want the new changes. So I think my OS is 5.1.1. Anyways I got a code from ATT for an unlock which is useless since it sounds like I don't even need a code, however my phone won't unlock. I have tried a few times to erase and restore my phone and nothing indicates an unlock. So, could it be the OS? Or is there some other step I am missing? thanks.

Nothing is further from the truth. Installing updates does not cause hardware issues or hardware to stop working. Anyone that tells you otherwise is completely ignorant.
I (and millions of others) have installed iOS updates with little or no adverse affects. The vast majority of issues that arise during an iOS update can be rectified with basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide.
There is no legitimate reason to not update the iOS which adds new features and fixes security issues in iOS.

Well, there you go. You need to contact AT&T or get the correct information and go to AT&T's website and request the unlock.
There are no codes, as you've already found out.
Once the unlock has been approved, AT&T will email you to let you know it has been processed and that the next step is to restore the device.

Why does my iPhone need every time to be hard-reset after charging?

Every time I fully charge my iPhone 6 Plus it turns off and doesn't want to turn on normally: I have to reset it every time by pressing the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button for a couple of seconds.
Also, sometimes after leaving it in sleep mode, when I wake the iPhone I find it having restarted alone without me doing anything: it asks me to type again the PIN number of my SIM card, as if it had just been turned on.
What can I do?

I think you need to talk to App tech. If you were sent a forced upgrade, it forces the phone to reboot when it hits 100% charge. Problem is after update and/or restore, it continues to do the reboot after you hit 100% battery capacity.
I have 6 phones that do the same. The tech guys don't believe me or they do not want to admit they have a problem with the forced update.
It left me stranded without my phone and the data in it while I was away. Bought a android phone for a back-up but may keep it as a main.
It seems if you want to carry your phone now-a-days, you better carry a laptop with iTunes in case there is a issue.
This whole thing is getting out-of-control as I spend more time servicing my phone than it spends servicing me. Which was the reason for not connecting to iTunes and updating it and then my phone every other month. So what do I get, forced update and inoperable phones.
If you can get it connected and set again, don't let it charge to 100% again and it will be fine. Otherwise see apple.
Who owns these phones anyway? It certainly is not me.

If your iPhone is shutting down unexpectedly, I recommend going through these troubleshooting steps:

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.

I have a 5 and got the message that the "software update is not available at this time. Try again later". Everyone is jamming the server trying to update at the same time. I'll try later this evening. Scary about the problem people are having after the update. They are saying their phones need to be re-activated. My IPhone is my only phone. Good luck everyone!

I'm sorry Allan, I should have clarified, your answer is improbable (well the first part atleast).
The apps I have had since the first week of purchase of my iphone back in 2011, I have not added any apps until 2 months before the last software update. This starting happening when the new software was implemented but I have not updated to iOS6 yet. Unless this person was able to hack into my account & transfer them to their account, I do not see how that is possible.
Prior to seeing this other AppleID, I have a popup to prompt me for my AppleID each time I download content. Each time I would see mine and enter my password.

Wi-Fi is not required for iMessage. Internet access is required for iMessage which includes when the iPhone is connected to the cellular network.
If an iMessage cannot be sent, it will fail to send and you will be prompted to send as an SMS if text only.

Try the following:
1. Connect the phone to your computer using the USB cable and let it sync.
2. Uncheck "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi"
3. Click Apply
4. Check "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi"
5. Click Apply
6. Quit iTunes
7. Disconnect the phone from the USB cable
8. Make sure your phone is connected to your Wi-Fi network
9. Open iTunes
iTunes should see your iPhone and connect to it. Go under Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync and see if you can initiate a sync.

I see other people have these grainy flash photographs if you try to take a picture in darkness the picture comes out very dark and grainy I thought the software would ultimately fix this but it's been going on for over a year I usually take my photographs in daylight but I need this to be fixed
If it is a hardware issue I hope Apple will replace my iPhone 5 because I was just waiting for one of the iOS updates to fix it I bought my phone in November 2012 its the iPhone 5

The flash on a smartphone camera is tiny. It only lights up a very small area right in front of the camera. It won't light up the whole scene.
Have you seen the size of the flash on a professional camera? Even they can't light a whole scene in the dark.
Fact is, a smartphone camera is not capable of taking good photos in the dark, even with the flash.
You'll need to buy and learn how to use a professional, dedicated SLR camera to be able to take good photos in the dark. It is not easy.
