When you say "off" do you mean it sleeps and comes back on instantly when you press the HOME or SLEEP buttons, or really turns off, so when you turn it back on you have to wait a couple of minutes for it to boot?

    Hey Linders1987,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are experiencing issues with Wi-Fi on your iPhone 5. The following resource may provide a solution:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS1398
Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including
    - previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    - recently used Bluetooth accessories
    - VPN and APN settings
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

why does my iPhone 5s shut down unpredictably and needs to be reset every time to start back up?

    Hi Cyprus11,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone is shutting down unexpectedly, I recommend going through these troubleshooting steps:

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Best,

  • Why does my iphone 4 keep dropping wifi connection since ios5.0.1update

Why does my iphone 4 keep dropping wifi connection since ios5.0.1 update, it worked perfectly before, my wifes 3gs connects fine and stays connected while my £400 paperweight losses connection, thinking of going back to nokia! Sort it out apple!

If the "oh so Great Apple" were to monitor these forums then they might see all the problems
that the people who have paid good money for their devices are having, i suppose they can do no wrong
In your eyes, i just thought that if you pay a lot of money for a product that works fine, and you update
It with a firmware update that they kept going on about how good it was and it can do this and it can
Do that, then i think they should sort it out. I don't care if i "don't deserve to be an apple owner" or not,
The fact is i paid my money and it should do what its suppose to do, i moved from Nokia to Apple because
The N97 was crap and i put up with it for too long, and they didn't do anything to fix the bugs they just stopped
Selling it and basically said tough s**t, so now this is happened i hoped Apple whould be better but they seem
To be just like the rest.

  • Why does my Iphone 5 ring when I get a call, but can not figure out why there is NO sound when I get a text?

Why does my Iphone 5 ring when I get a call, but can't not figure out why it does not make a sound, when I receive a text or typing???

    Deborah,
The solutions on here did not work for me.   I tried.....
I have the same problem with a BRAND NEW iPhone 5c version 7.1- no sound when a text message arrives.
    (1) I have "do not disturb" scheduled correctly.   No partial moon on the main screen near the time and battery indicator.
    (2) I have the ringer icon correct with no slash.    Yes I turned the hardward mute switch to the UP position (ie the one above the + and - buttons on the left side.   I tried messaging with the bell as shown and bell with a slash and neither work.   The mute switch is not red (switch above the + volume hardware switch)     I enabled some assistant using the Settings menu.    And I press the dot (looks like a target symbol) and go to Devices and I can see what position the bell is in....either a bell with a slash or no slash.
    (3) Yes ringtones are configured for text and other. I can hear them when I am under settings > sounds.   But they do not link with the actual hardware.
    (4) I rebooted the iPhone 5c by using the button at top, slide the red bar, then pressed it again, apple came up for a minute and it seemed to be back up.
    (5) I upgraded the IPhone 5c from 7.0.4 to 7.1 using my pc and itunes.   And the upgrade was successful but did not fix the text issue.
    (6) I do not have it in airplane mode or silent mode.
    (7) I reset all settings using Setttings > General > reset > reset all settings .  this wipes settings but not data and media.
    This is really frustrating.

  • Why does my Mac stay on the white screen when I turn it on?

Why does my Mac stay on white screen when I turn it on?

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 3
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 4
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 5
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 6.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 6
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 7
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 8
Repeat Step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 9
This step applies only to older Macs (not current models) that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery. Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a boot failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 10
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Why does iTunes/iPhone 4S insist it can't find a song on my PC or my phone when it is on both? This is resulting in me being unable to use the ringtones I created from these songs, but I can still play the songs.

OK, so I'm clearly a newb. I thought if I asked a question, it would post, and now I'm being told to post a comment, so I'm asking the same question again. Sorry I sound like an idiot. I'm new to this apple/mac stuff.
Why does iTunes/iPhone 4S insist it can't find a song on my PC or my phone when it is on both? This is resulting in me being unable to use the ringtones I created from these songs, but I can still play the songs.

If you have added the ringtone file correctly to iTunes, it will appear under iTunes 'Tones' library.
If you don't find Tones library in iTunes, go to iTunes menu EDIT/PRFERENCES under GENERAL tab, check the Tones Box under Library source to display Tones library in iTunes.
iTunes accepts only m4r file as ringtone and has to be less than 40secs.

  • Why does the iPhone convert animated .GIF images?

I saved a bunch of animated .GIF files on my iPhone.
When I imported them onto my computer, they were all single framed .JPG files.
Why does the iPhone convert the images, and is there any way to prevent this?
    Thanks!

you can play gif in webView ,just the same way you load a jpeg or png..
    NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"santa" ofType:@"gif"];
    NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:path isDirectory:NO];
    /* Load the request. */
    [myWebView loadRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url]];
the gif that is locally saved will be loaded.

  • Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?

Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?
The screen isn't broken because it works after i turn the device off and back on, but after it goes black once, it's only white again.
But it takes the touches although it's only white, because I can answer my phone when I slide my finger on the bottom of the screen, eventhough there in not the button to see.
This is so weird. I have already done everything I can think of that might help. But I cannot think of anything that might be causing it, because nothing has happened to the device.

Let me know if I should start a new discussion instead of opening a new topic here.
My wife's iPhone is the same vintage as mine 3Gs, but has never had the battery problem.  Its affliction instead is that it cannot detect WiFi networks unless it is quite close to the source.  Often, when my iPhone not only detects but shows a maximum cells connection with a network, hers cannot detect the network at all.  In contrast, her iPhone seems to detect ourcellular carrier just as well as mine does.
Is there any help for this affliction?

  • Why does my iPhone 5 take very grainy flash photographs in the dark will a hard reboot be safe to do to try to fix or is it a hardware issue?

Why does my iPhone 5 take very grainy flash photographs in the dark will a hard reboot be safe to do to try to fix or is it a hardware issue?
And By hard boot I mean holding the home and power button down at the same time for 10 seconds or whatever
I see other people have these grainy flash photographs if you try to take a picture in darkness the picture comes out very dark and grainy I thought the software would ultimately fix this but it's been going on for over a year I usually take my photographs in daylight but I need this to be fixed
If it is a hardware issue I hope Apple will replace my iPhone 5 because I was just waiting for one of the iOS updates to fix it I bought my phone in November 2012 its the iPhone 5
Please help or advise if you can was this just a software or hardware issue I know Apple was aware of it but I was advised that iOS update would fix it but obviously not
Is it safe to do a hard boot on my iPhone five by holding the power and home button at the same time for 10 or 20 seconds I saw someone said that fixed there's at least temporarily
I'm typing this on my iPhone five right now why do the words go off to the left and right no matter if I hold the phone vertical or horizontal the words bleed off to left right so for me to proofread it I have to move my text left to right to proof read it
    Thank you

The flash on a smartphone camera is tiny. It only lights up a very small area right in front of the camera. It won't light up the whole scene.
Have you seen the size of the flash on a professional camera? Even they can't light a whole scene in the dark.
Fact is, a smartphone camera is not capable of taking good photos in the dark, even with the flash.
You'll need to buy and learn how to use a professional, dedicated SLR camera to be able to take good photos in the dark. It is not easy.

  • TS1702 why does my iphone 5s not display apps to my jvc car stereo, when the same apps work with my 4s?

why does my iphone 5s not displaying apps on my jvc car stereo.  these apps worked with my iphone 4s?

Blackberries were designed at a time when cellular data was very expensive. They don't do nearly as much as an iPhone, in part, to conserve data use. All modern smartphones will use more data than a Blackberry unless you do almost nothing.
You do not need to quite apps. Almost no apps run in the background.
Here are Apple's tips on iPhone battery use:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
If you are really only getting an hour of battery usage and not just engaging in hyperbole (), you should make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.

  • Why does my iPhone 4GS bounce of the TV

Why does my iPhone 4S bounce of the TV (not flatscreen, old thick Philips) when I put the iPhone on top of it? It happens after some time, perhaps 20 minutes. The phone bounces of the TV and lands on the floor. The TV is off!

    Hi,
That sounds like attention seeking behaviour.
Step over it and ignore the antics.
When it behaves in the fashion you expect it is OK to pick it up and follow the normal nurturing you use.
If you do respond to it you will soon find yourself planning a zip line from your upstairs bedroom to the kitchen, coupled with a refusal to get in your pocket when you are ready to leave the house.

Why does my iPhone KEEP asking if I trust this computer? I thought it was a onetime thing per computer? I plug my iPhone 4s into the computer and every time I tell it to trust this computer, but a hour later if I plug in again, I have to say trust again... bug? Setting issue? Help?

    http://helpios7.com/trust-this-computer-pop-up-fix/
This helped me. Fix #1 is something Apple doesn't ever suggest to you.
My specific problem was somehow my Apple Mobile Device USB Driver got turned off and moved and maybe even uninstalled, but after hours of struggling, this site helped tremendously.
Furthermore, I could connect my iPhone to my computer but not into iTunes. It would only let me go to access pictures on my iPhone and that's all.
Best of luck to anyone trying to figure out their problem.
