The passcode for my iPod is no longer recognised when I try to open the restrictions page in the Settings app. How can one device have 2 passcodes ? Do I have to wipe the device and start again ? How do I know it will not happen again /

There is the normal Lock Screen passcode and there is a Restrictions passcode. They are each different. We don't know your passcode nor does Apple. If you forget the passcode:

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

It's a bit like specifying a quantity in gallons without saying whether they are US or Imperial gallons - everybody gets the same volume but one number will be bigger than the other. I could offer you a tank with 10 Imperial gallons of fuel in it - but if I tell you it's 12 US gallons it sounds like you're getting more for your money.
Once the total size of your library exceeds the capacity of your device all you need to do is create some size limited playlists to determine what goes on the device. Don't sync all movies, sync one or two that you plan to watch soon. Likewise with TV Shows. Limit podcasts to unplayed episodes and finally create a music subset. What worked for me for some time was a smart playlist called Steve's Tunes defined as Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Exclude where Exclude was regular playlist that I would manually add to until Steve's Tunes was small enough to fit. These days I run an iPhone and have a number of smart playlists with ? Gb of most played, ? Gb of highly rated, ? Gb of recently added, ? Gb of essentials, ? Gb of unplayed etc. Each time I sync I get slightly updated selection without having to put any extra effort in.

Why does GarageBand '11 not recognise my MIDI Controller?

My Evolution MK-249 MIDI controller keyboard is recognised as being on the USB 3.0 Hi-Speed Bus in the System Information window, but is not recognised by GarageBand '11 nor does it appear as a device in Audio MIDI Setup. As a test, I plugged in a USB microphone + headset and GarageBand immediately detected the device and it appeared in Audio MIDI Setup.
Evolution are no longer in business, but support has been picked up by M-AUDIO. According to their website the MK-249 is amongst many MIDI devices for which "the class-compliant drivers built into Mac OS X provide full support for all features.".

I have just realised I have put this on the wrong forum - it is not relevant to iOS. I will now post it in the correct forum, please pardon my ignorance!

My 5th generation IPod does not appear on ITunes. Likewise, it does not appear in my OS Windows 7 in the folder: Computer nor does it appear in the window: Device Manager. Is this because Windows 7 does not recognize the IPod? I've had my new computer (1TB, Win. 7, etc) for several months which replaced an older computer with OS Win. XP. The IPod worked fine on XP and I suspect Win. 7 is the issue here? Correct? Windows 7 doesn't recognize several devices and feel like it's planned obsolescence! What is the alternative here if it's Win 7? I have no plans/interest to buy a new IPod, btw!

Do you get any response from the computer when you plug the phone in? I'm guessing that you are going into Computer to see if you find the phone? If you go into Device Manager, do you see any errors in the USB area?

They both have iOS 6.1. All my apps are up to date. Then, after a couple days go by, a new update shows up on both devices. I go to iPod Touch (4) to update and no password is required. Then, minutes later, I go to iPhone (4) to update the same app, and it asks me for my password. How come iPod never asks for my password, but my iPhone always does?
Note: I do not use iCloud to update all my devices at the same time. I prefer to do update them myself, one at a time. I am just wondering why one device asks me for password while the other does not.
