Why does my iTunes library show up to be different sizes?

I have about 2600 songs in my iTunes library. At the bottom of the iTunes library window, it says there are 2600 songs, 13.03gb. All of these songs fit on my 16gb iTouch.
Now, when i go to finder>Music>iTunes>iTunes Music the folder is 114gb!
WHY IS THIS SOOOO MUCH LARGER?
It's the same contents that are in my iTunes library!

Selecting Music in iTunes will show only your music.
Selecting Music>iTunes>iTunes Music in the Finder shows everything in iTunes including music, movies, audiobooks, podcasts,TV Shows, etc.
Go to Music>iTunes>iTunes Music>Music and this is only the music files.

  • HT2242 Why does my Itunes store show up in Japanese/kanji when I've got my language specified as English?

Why does my itunes store show up in Kanji/Japanese when my language and country selections are in English?

I'd like to add one more thing.  I need to update my iPod as I'm using version 1.0.2 PC -- Before I do this, I'd like to back up my iPod.  As I noted above, I am afraid of doing something and accidentally wiping out my iPod (since that's where everything seems to be).

  • Why does the iTunes not show "Photos"

Why does the new iTunes not show "Photos" after it is synced, and why does iCloud not show Photos also?

Ralph9430 offers a good suggestion.  But you may need to do this before taking his advice:
Check in iPhoto's Preferences (which you can open from the iPhoto menu).  Look in General, and make sure "Connecting Camera Opens" is set to "Image Capture").
If it is set to "iPhoto", you won't be able to get to Image Capture easily.

  • Why does my itunes generated "purchased" playlist differ between different computers for the same library?

One computer (my newer one with Lion) doesn't have any music before 7/2008 included as "purchased" but still has all the music in the general library that the other computer has listed in the "purchased" playlist (going all the way back to 2006) automatically generated by itunes. The other computer (the one with the correct purchased playlist) only has snow leopard but apparently can still work with the cloud as it has all the new downloads/purchases that have been completed on the other computer. Is this related to the Itunes plus thing - are all the songs before 7/2008 or whatever the date is not itunes plus and that's why they are not showing up as purchased in one computer? I think I can fix this by creating a special playlist of my own to sync between the two of them, but it would be nice to have both purchased lists be accurate for the synced library. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

You can transfer iTunes content from an iTunes library on a single computer only.
Since these songs were purchased with the same iTunes account, you can download the song that is not in your iTunes library on the computer you will be syncing your iPhone with. Or you can download the song or songs direct on your iPhone.

  • Why does writing iTunes library tmp files bring my system to a standstill?

For the last couple months, i have noticed that i periodically get completely balky periods with my mac (stats below) -- eventually i traced them to the times when iTunes is writing temp files (which is pretty much constantly, even if nothing is actually playing or changing in iTunes), which are apparently limited to a .5 to 1.5 MB/sec write speed. Since my library file is over 245MB (and the corresponding XML library 235MB) this means it takes several minutes to cycle through this behavior. While the tmp file write is in progress, the entire rest of the system goes into a veritable work stoppage. Actions do eventually happen, but only after a bunch of beach-ball spinning and cursing.
Any ideas? I've been asking about this for a while and nobody seems to have come up with anything useful yet.
Much thanks in advance. I have a lot of software i don't want to have to reinstall, so something that would skirt that would be preferable to a complete tear-down and rebuild. That isn't even a guarantee of fixing things if this is in fact a hardware problem (which i don't have any real reason to suspect, and would like to rule out in advance, if possible).

The file in question "Temp File.tmp" is written to the /Music/iTunes folder, on my startup drive, in my home folder, every time iTunes thinks it needs to update the disk copy of the library. It first rebuilds the "iTunes Library" file, swaps the temp in for that, and does the same for the XML.
No USB is involved in this transaction, unless it somehow going out and re-checking every single entry in my library against the actual file on the external drive, before writing to disk.
There does not seem to be any indication of corresponding disk read activity while it is writing. Just the write, very slow, that blocks all other aspects of my system for performing normally.....
WRT the 25GB free, i have the same problem even when i have over 60GB free on the internal drive. It doesn't seem to be caused by lack of free space. Something is restricting (throttling?) disk write speed. I have noticed one or two other programs exhibit similar behavior (in particular, the Transmission bittorrent client has a big slowdown when it is first creating the new, blank files, to be copied into by the subsequent torrenting).
    Hope that clarifies things...

  • Why does my iTunes library not properly synch w/ my Nano?

I have deslected several podcast within my iTunes library in order to remove them from my Nano, yet no matter how many times I run "update" the podcasts remain on the Nano. I have even deleted them from my iTunes library and they still remain on the Nano after updating.
What is the story here? I thought that only items selected within the library would be synched with the Nano. (Yes, I have changd my Preferences to "only update checked songs" and "manually manage podcasts." What else has to be done?

I figured it out! I could see ALL my music in the itunes media folder but my iTunes library only had a fraction of the files. I had to go into the itunes media folder and import them in.

  • Why Does my iTunes library take up so much space on my hard drive?

Hi, I have a MacBook (white) and I'm having some annoying problems with iTunes. First, I had about 8,000 songs in my iTunes library. I deleted the songs I don't listen to/don't want anymore, and I deleted about 2,000 songs. I also deleted about 40 home movies that I shot, and all my podcasts. After several restarts and opening and closing iTunes, the space my iTunes folder in my music folder still takes up over 45 GB of space, even though I only have 18 GB of music in my iTunes. Any ideas as to how I can get rid of all the extra files and reclaim some of my much-needed disk space? Thanks in advance!

If you did not see the dialog box asking if you wanted to delete from the hard drive, I think this may be one of those options where you can say "Don't ask again," meaning until you trash your iTunes prefs, it will cease asking the question.
you can bring those dialogs back. iTunes > preferences > advanced > reset all dialog warnings

  • Why does my itunes summary show so much in the 'other' tab

while tryng to synch my iphone, it told me i didnt have enough room for my 5 new songs, that i need over 3mb to do this. then i took a whole bunch of stuff off my phone including ALL of my music, (and fb!)and the 'other' in my summary tab shot up to 7.14 gb!!!! that's almost half my 16 gb! what does the 'other' tab mean?

    Hey ridgegirl,
Try out these steps to resolve the issue:
Orphaned files may remain on your iOS device if it is physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, the Capacity indicator in iTunes may report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device. To resolve this issue:
Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 5.
Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device. To do this:
Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 6.
    Restore using iTunes.

  • Why does the itunes store show the apps I have downloaded Free or the price instead of "downloaded"?

I have encountered this problem since Christmas. When I open the itunes and want to search the apps I have downloaded, and it keeps showing these apps free or with a price instead of downloaded. However, I have not encountered this problem in my iphone. This problem makes me confused that whether I have downloaded the app if I do not check the "Purchased".
Like the following one, even though I have downloaded the app, it shows the price to me instead of "downloaded".
p.s I have logined in to my acct.

Are you really running Mac OS 10.4.8?

I hadn't used visited the iTunes store looking for books for many months.  When I went this afternoon I found it stupid, offensive and frustrating how hard it is to find books instead of audiobooks.  What am I doing wrong?  The main menu in the store doesn't even list books anymore.  Just audiobooks.  The only way I could get a link to a book download was by searching for the author.  That then gave me a choice of book or audiobooks.
I see plenty of books (in the U.S. store).

  • Why does old iPhoto library show that it's been updated?

I 'backed up' my iPhoto library a few months ago by dragging it to and creating a copy on an external drive.  I never used that extra, copied library.  I continued using the one in my home Pictures folder on my hard drive.
I am moving stuff around for extra hard drive space when I recognize my iPhoto library on my external drive (just as I left it, I'd just forgotten about it).  So for kicks, I clicked on GET INFO for that file so that I could compare it to my current iPhoto library.
Both were 'created' on the same day in 2009.  The old one was a little smaller than the active one.  Fine.
Interestingly, my backup copy said that it was Modified:  Yesterday 5:30pm.
my current library said that it was Modified:   Today 10:10pm.
QUESTION:  Why was my unused, backup copy of iPhoto Library modified yesterday when I haven't accessed that file, clicked on the icon, or even remembered that it was there (until today)?
I appreciate any insight you may have.  While not a burning issue, my interest is piqued.  THANKS!

Have you rebooted since the deletions.  That will empty a number of caches and may restore the freed up space. Also open the iPhoto Library package with the Finder as shown in this screenshot
locate the iPod Photo Cache folder and delete its contents.  Make no other changes to the contents of the iPHoto LIbrary Package.

  • Why does the itunes wifi show it is connected to my PC for all the devices we have when my husband has his own Apple ID, since we updated to Icloud with our own ID's

since upgrading to Icloud, all the devices in our house show in Itunes Wifi they are all linked to my PC, although we have set them up with our own individual accounts, my husband is unable to sync his Iphone, Ipod & ipad to the music in his itunes, as it wants to connect to mine any one any ideas

You can continue to use the current AppleID for iTunes, but your husband can create a new AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account that will be his own and not overlap with yours.  If you do not have another email address to use for an AppleID, just get a free Gmail account and use that.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you want (or at least, as many as you have email addresses for).  You can use a separate AppleID for the store, another for iCloud, and even another for iMessage if you wish.
You will want to keep the current one as the shared one for the store as all your previous purchases are permanently tied to it, and thus you need that AppleID to update or redownload your current purchased content.

  • Why does my Aperture library show up as "Other" in About This Mac?

I go to About This Mac- More Info- Storage, and it says I only have 2.99GB of photos when my Aperture library is close to 200GB.  The Aperture library gets thrown into the Other portion.
I have tried using terminal to delete the current index and re-index, but that didn't work.
I did not have this problem when I was using iPhoto, it has only been since I switched to Aperture months ago.  All my software is updated to the most recent versions.  I had an early 2008 15" MBP and upgraded to a 2012 15" MBP, same problem on both machines.  Is there any way to fix Spotlight Indexing?

The Aperture library is a library package and not an image file, so Spotlight will not show the library as an image but as "other". Since the unified library format has been introduced, iPhoto images will not be shown in Spotlight either.
The usual way to search for images managed by Aperture should be to use the elaborate search tools provided by Aperture - smart searches and smart albums or the Media Browser to access them from applications that can browse iPhoto and Aperture libraries, like Mail, Preview, iMovie, ...
If you want Spotlight to be able to the original image files of your Aperture images, convert your Aperture library into a referenced library (see: Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Referenced Images). This way, the original image files will be stored in a folder outside the package and Spotlight or Find will see them. Only, if you decide to do that, remember that it it not save to manipulate the original image files in any other way than using Aperture to do this - don't accidentally delete them, move them, rename them, edit them. Referencing is meant as a method to be able to store the bulk of your images on external drives, not to give access to the original image files.
Also, Spotlight will never be able to show you your edited versions, since they do not exist as rendered image files until you export or share them. So Spotlight can only show the originals.
