Why does my laptop give me a warning saying that firefox is using too much memory and to restart firefox to be more efficient? I just bought this laptop so I know it has the power to run what I need it to.

From reading on the internet, it appears that when there is a spike in memory usage, AVG "interprets" that as a memory leak, possibly caused by malware. AVG could be incorrect concerning that assumption. Maybe they are being a bit too conservative about memory usage; just my opinion.

  • Why does Firefox keep telling me that it is using too much memory, (eg: 235MB) and I should restart Firefox?

Lately Firefox has been popping up a warning while I am on the internet saying, that "Firefox" is using too much memory. It suggests shutting down Firefox and restarting Firefox. It also told me how much memory that is in use at that time. It is usually about 235MB or more. What is normal memory use for Firefox to use while I am on the internet? Does high usage mean that some other person is trying to get into my computer?

  • Every time I load my igoogle home page opening firefox, it opens it in two tabs instead of one, and then AVG tells me firefox is using too much memory and I should close and reopen it; Why

I open firefox using my igoogle home page and immediately it opens two igoogle tabs on top instead of just one how do I stop it from opening the second one? and then after about two minutes AVG tells me firefox is using too much memory slowing my machine and tells me to close and reopen fire fox...how do I fix that?

Make sure that Firefox closes properly and that that there are no longer Firefox or plugin-container processes left on the Processes tab in the Task Manager. Otherwise session restore will reopen the page(s) from the previous session.

  • Sometimes I get a message on the task bar at the bottom of the screen saying Firefox is using too much memory and the browser slows down terribly. What do I need to do?

This has been happening for several months now.
I use AVG anti-virus and it runs both updates and scans regularly. I do find that if I do an extra full scan it improves the situation for perhaps half a day.
Sometimes the fault slows down the browser so much that it times out and I have to click the retry button.
It seems to happen with most sites that I visit, I have been unable to identify any particular one as being worse than the others

  • Running 9.0.1 Firefox. I get a msg from AVG that Firefox is using too much memory and then the computer (not just Firefox) shuts off. Running Win7 (64-bit) with 4 GB Mem and Intel i-5. Only 4-5 "normal" windows are open at the time this happens.

Right now Task manager Performance tab on Memory says: Total 3958; Cached mem 1588; Avail 2239; Free 722; Physical Mem 43% and this window is the only thing open. Kernel mem (MB) says Paged 179 and Nonpaged 80.
I can get you more info if you tell me what you need (and where to find it - I am 60 y.o. woman and this is not my forte :=)

  • Just recently I get a messages that Mozilla is using too much memory. Why? I did not have that message before, if you use too much memory I won't be able to open web pages. I recently updated to version 3.6.16

what details? my question has the details!

OK, I decided to upgrade to Mavericks. 1st I checked to see if Parallels 8 woudl work w it. It said yes, but upgrade parallels 8 1st so I did that (& then realized I should update virus def & run Windows updates also. Don't use it very much  180 days ago it said).
Then saw some reports of mail not working so well so decided to clean out a lot of un-needed emails on my Mac. Also ran updates to Mountain Lion.
Then closed everything & shut down. Left it off for a few min to clear out any left over electronic garbage & rebooted. Opened App store & clicked the Mavericks free download. Almost immediated it gave me error message & suggested doing it from the Purchased section.
Ok, I tried downloading it there. 2-3 times got same almost immediate error message.
Then, I think it was after disconnecting external HD & printer I tried again & it was looking good w download. It was fluctuating between 40-45 min time remaining & showing almost 500 mb downloaded when I got the error message again.
btw, I also got an error message when running Windows update. There was an unknown error code when I tried updating Service Pack 1 (which it showed I needed, although I'm thinking that is kind of strange since I've had Windows 7 on a MacBookPro since shortly after I bought the original MacBookPro in April 2010. (Spilled water on it last May & Apple store said it would need expensive repair so bought this replacement that they used my Time Machine backups to install everything on. This was right as I was getting ready to move & I haven't yet found the old one to see if maybe it would work. It should be in one of my boxes).
So, if it is having this much trouble just getting it installed I'm kind of afraid to go ahead. Wondering why some report it works fine & a lot of others saying no.
I very frustrated since I just want to be able to have the functionality I had to be able to sync Numbers between my iPad & my Mac.

  • Firefox uses too much memory and processor power, up to 800k at times

Firefox.exe sometimes uses 60% of my CPU usage, up to about 800k...whatever that is. My AOL virtually stops, and refreshing pages or opening new ones on Firefox can take up to 30 seconds. I have 2 gigs RAM, and without that upgrade, my Dell wouldn't be working at all. I have Windows XP Pro, and 80 gigs HDD. Thanks,
    Carl

If you consider the problem solved you could mark it as such please.
However note Norton Internet Security, by default, is likely to run 'pulse updates' not really a topic to discuss here other than to say that such activity may well continue, depending on your settings with Norton, regardless of whether or not, you have the Norton toolbar installed.
I currently have a paid for version of Norton installed.
My understanding being that the Norton bar relates to, password etc management, safe searching, and general connection with the Norton site.
*The Norton Toolbar is not compatible with the current firefox 4 beta
    * I would not know if it has any other detrimental effects on firefox
    * In itself removing the toolbar will not stop Norton software impacting on use of firefox (but it is of course there to provide security, I do not suggest you remove it, only that you take into account its cost CPU wise)

  • Why does my Mac (OS 10.7) warn me that Firefoxs' latest edition will cause harm to my computer? I ignored the warning , Scrolls rapidly & Beeps!

My Mac is an Intel core 2 duo, 233GHz, using OS 10.7. I've used Firefox for years without an issue. But as soon as I loaded the recommended update my computer has been doing a number of operations on its own. So far it has rapidly begun to scroll down menus and Word pages, when the computer is idle or when I'm keying in information it starts to beep (sometimes fast). Initially, it was giving me fits while typing, by changing regular characters (not all, but many) to symbols. I have reloaded my OS updates and have some stability reestablished. However, problems are still popping up now and then. I am currently running an older version of Firefox.

Download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new (latest) Firefox version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 17.0.1: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application (e.g. open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded

Why does AVG keep telling me that Mozilla is using too much memory and I have to close and reopen the program?

the Advisor is just telling you the same thing you can see for yourself in the Task Manager; I can open firefox with only a few tabs and then watch the memory usage skyrocket when Firefox should be doing nothing - after a couple of hours it will get up to as high as 1.5GB before it completely hangs and I have to end the process in Task Manager, and this does this with all extensions disabled and in Safemode.

Why does Mobile Data notification keep coming up saying 'Mobile Data is turned off for "Numbers" and I have to click on OK to get rid of it? I KNOW it's turned off for that program because that is what I want it to be set at. What I DON'T want is to have to click on OK EVERY TIME I open the program when I'm away from wifi.

That is how it works in general, not just for Numbers. It irritates me on other apps at times, although I can see an argument that if it didn't do that then people would complain about missing functionality after they forgot they had turned data off for an app. At any rate, this is a user to user support forum and we can't do anything about it. If you want to make a suggestion to Apple, following is a place to do that: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • Since upgrading to Firefox 27.0 some webpages will not load when I click on them. It gives me a message saying that Firefox can't find the server.

Since upgrading to Firefox 27.0 some webpages will not load when I click on them. It gives me a message saying that Firefox can't find the server. I have to click the link several time before it will load and sometimes when they do load it does not show the page right. It is like the HTML is messed up or something. I have tried everything I can think of. I started in safe mode, still did it., I removed add-ons, still did it., I reset Firefox and still did it., I completely uninstalled Firefox and re-installed Firefox and it still does it. I have tried Malware Bytes Anti-Malware scans and Avast boot-time scans and found no malware or viruses. I have found that those websites open the first time with no problems on my IE9 and they used to do so in Firefox 26.0. I'm at my wit's end. The website links are in my bookmarks and are used all the time so they are trusted and my avast is set to allow them. They range from news websites to gun websites and everything I have read says that Mozilla does not filter those unless something has changed recently.

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit. First download the pics to your computer.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.
