  • Why does my Mac book pro freeze/crash almost daily?

My MB Pro has worked well for ove a year.  Recently, i.e. about 8 weeks ago I installed Leapord which seems to have slowed down the speed and now in the last few days I have had a sequence of crashes/freezes which I can only eliminate if I use a force turn of.  Does anyone have any ideas please?

  • Why does my Mac book keep freezing? Help!

Why does my Mac book pro keep freezing at the login screen making it impossible for me to log into my laptop?? A multi color spinning disc keeps appearing even before I am able to type in my entire password. This keeps on happening even after a hard restart.

Hard to tell, run through this list,

  • Why does my mac book only freeze at my office and no where else

Why does my mac book only freeze at my office and no where else?

can you be more specific as to when it freezes?  Have you been able to determine a particular pattern as to why it freezes.  Your question is too vague for anyone that does not have access to your office with your mac in the room.

Not much to work with here...
How about more info so a diagnosis and help can be formulated? Mac model (size), RAM, OS version, age, battery status? What are you doing when it happens? How often? And if you want to be really abundant, pertinent logfiles?

  • Why does my mac book pro not show in 1080p on my flat screen

why does my mac book pro not show in 1080p on my flat screen. My mac bookpro always showed in 1080p on a Sanyo Plasma screen. Now when I connect mac book pro I get a blank screen. It will display in 720 but not 1080p. Also will show in 1080i but pictures flicker.

    davenug,
given how much we currently know about your MacBook Pro, why do you think that we would know the reason? Please help us to help you by providing relevant information about your MacBook Pro — which model is it? Which version of OS X is installed on it? Is its battery fully charged? Is its AC charger working properly? &c.

It would be nice if you could include a kernel panic log to verify that your problem is...
Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
             com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff
                dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x7a802000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
             com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.4.0)@0x83c05000->0x84019fff
                dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000

                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x7a802000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
    Good luck,

Sounds to me like you may have gotten a machine with hardware issues, but it's hard to say.  It will shut down if it gets too hot, but that's not a normal occurrence.  I have never seen a MacBook Pro shut down due to heat, even after lengthy 3D gaming sessions where the fans are running fast and the bottom of the machine is unpleasant to touch.
First thing I would try to do is reset the SMC.  If that doesn't help, erase the hard drive and reinstall the system from scratch, which you should always do with a used machine anyway.
If a fresh system doesn't help, you'll need to get it checked out by Apple.
Edit: Oh, and sig is absolutely right...  please don't post in all caps!  It's very irritating.

  • Why does my mac book pro screen go black when it goes to sleep and then will not light up again unless I unplug the power cord

When I either leave my mac book pro open, but idle long enough for it to go to sleep or close the top and put it to sleep, the only way to light up the screen again is to diconnect the mag. connect power cord. Any ideas why and/or how to  correct this problem?

So this is what I got when I took my computer into the apple store to have it diagnosed.
After the apple technician performced several tests, the only thing that fixed the issue was an SMC reset. Based on this he figures it is probably a software or firmware issue that is going on. He is a little concerend how ever that the fans of the comupter don't reach maximal rpm when the computer is displaying the issue. So he recorded the problem, and told me to just perform the SMC reset as needed for the next couple months and wait for a new update from apple. If the issue persists I am to go back to the apple store and they will take the appropriate steps.
He said an SMC reset doesn't hurt the computer in any way, so its safe to do. I am gonna contact blizzard and let them know about the issue as well because if it is software, it could be their game (Diablo 3) that is causing the issue as well. If I hear of anything new i will let you know. So get on the blizzard form and let them know of the issue to fix the problem faster.

  • Why does my mac book pro have a blue screen when booting up for a second just before the login screen

When turning on my Mac Book pro before it get to the log in screen it has a blue screen for a couple of second the goes to the login sreen. It seams to take some time to complete the login to my computer.
can anybody give me some help with this problem.
    Thank you

The cable connections have (so far) solved this problem for my situation. Even though the monitor's DVI cable was firmly connected to the mini Display port connector, when I touched it the attached monitor would go 'blue' or lose its connection entirely. After disconnecting and reconnecting this junction the monitors would still take a hit on touching the connection. I also checked the connection of the mini Display port connection to the graphics board and could not push it in any further. However, after a second go-round I unplugged this connection to the board and reconnected it. I am certain it was fully inserted the first time. But, connection contacts can oxidize over time and sometimes it may just need to be disconnected and reconnected to 're-wipe' the connections. This effectively cleans them at the point of contact. So in my case I'm thinking it was the connection age that was an issue more than a 'loose' connection. Either way, I haven't had this issue for the past two weeks.

  • Why does my mac book Pro pick up wifi but my new ipad wont in the exact same position in my house?

I sit in my lounge with my mac book pro and it picks up my home wifi perfectly yet when i sit with my ipad, sometimes it works and picks it it but then at times it looses the connection and I cant find the hub?? why is this and is there anything I can do to stop it from happening?

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
iPad: Issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3304
iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Why does my mac book pro 2012 15" w/ retina display run slow during a video game and then an SMC reset seems to fix it temporarily?

When I begin to play Diablo 3 with my fairly new 15" mac book pro with retina display, every now and then my computer will be really laggy when playing it (frame rate of under 5). Normally its performance is really fast with a frame rate of about 40-60 frames per second depending on the resolution used. When this happens I have performed a SMC reset and it fixed the problem. However, every few days it will act up again and I will have to do an SMC reset again. It has now happened again for the third time and I am affraid to continue to perform an SMC reset, is this bad for my computer? Should I take it in and have them trouble shoot it? Any help would be greatly appreciated to figure out what is wrong. Thanks.

  • Why does my Mac Book Pro get so hot?

My Mac Book Pro gets hot whenever i use it for awhile and i am wondering what could be causing the "over heating"
I just bought my Mac about a month ago, it is the 13 inch with the intel core i7 processor.

Hot is a relative term.  Go on the Internet and download iStat pro, a widget that monitors the internal temperatures and fan speeds of your MBP.  When you get accurate numerical data then you will be able to determine if there actually is a problem.
Yes the MBPs do get warm which is good because that is dissipating the internal heat being generated by the internal components.  The heat to a large degree is a function of the applications you are using, such as video games will require more CPU resources than emails, thus generating additional heat.
Bear in mind that the MBP has internal heat sensors that will shut the unit down if it starts to over heat thus preventing the MBP committing Hari Kari.
    Ciao.
