Why does my mac keep switching to a different apple tv mid-stream?
This is very frustrating and embarrassing, anything would help. I locked all the apple tvs with passwords and still happens!
if you gave them the same name try changing it on one of them

What is Listener.bundle? Why does my Mac keep asking to load it?
What is listener.bundle? Why does my Mac keep asking to load it?
Hi, Sk8erStan. I don't exactly know how/what your (or my) listener.bundle works/does, but for me, this became an issue when I downloaded the network scanning software "driver" for my Lexmark printer. Apparently this lets the Mac receive a request over wi-fi from the networked printer to set up, receive, and save a scan datafile. Essentially it lets the printer control the Mac. Which is OK and worked fine in my case .. EXCEPT every 5 or 10 minutes I get a pop-up alert asking me if I want to DENY or ALLOW my "listener bundle" app .. from listening. Really irritating and I have not yet figured out how to turn that off. If you have solved your problem, please post your solution and what you learned. Thanks.

why does my mac keep freezing when i link to sites with videos
Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
• Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
• Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
• Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
• Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

PRINT out a copy of the article as a hedge against "we never heard of this." Make an appointment at the genius bar. Do not leave until they have run the special VST test that ends in a remarkable PASSED or FAILED screen. [The typical "overnight bake" will not find this problem].
If failed and they refuse to accept it for repair under the program, the store manager may have additional latitude to help you. You MUST be polite and professional at all times. Why does my Mac keep freezing and applications not responding?!?
Hello everyone, I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro, 500gb HD, 4gb ram. The problem is that it keeps freezing. I am writing this on my iPhone because my laptop would probably just freeze up if I even attempted to open an application. The problem is that my laptop won't stop freezing up. As soon as I have any application open, it will stop being responsive, give me the beach ball spinning wheel thing, and I'll use command-option-escape to open the force quit menu (because at this point the mouse usually can me moved around the screen but just makes the system get worse) to force quit what ever applications I have open. Then finder will stop responding, and then nothing will work until I do a forced shut down (hold the power button down) and turn it back on again, where the same thing happens within a minute. I tried repairing permissions and doing a P RAM reset, but have had no success with either. Please help, this is ridiculous, I can barely use my laptop and I need it for school. Thanks,
-DylanYour issue sounds like the hard drive is failing or it was bumped or moved while it was operating and corrupted the data on the drive.
Hard to tell for sure, run through this list of fixes
Step by Step to fix your Mac
Note your signature says it's a 2009 model, that's almost 4 years old and near it's end of life stage of apx 4.5-5 years, a new drive might fix the machine, but clogged dust vents could be killing it too..
Out of AppleCare and warranty, looks like you might be doing it yourself.

Why does my mac not switch focus between applications
All,
I have a very inconvenient problem on my mac.
Every time when I click on a link in e.g. Mail or Twitter, my Mac opens the link in Safari but does not switch focus to the Safari window with the loaded page.
Similar behaviour in every application.
Does anyone has an idea?
Thanks,
equiCarolyn,
thanks, but this did not solve my problem. The issue is, that Safari itself does not get the focus and I am not brought to the space where Safari has opened the page.
I tried your suggestion, turned the setting on and off and on again, but the behaviour is still the same. I assume that it has something to do with spaces itself.
Thanks for your time having responsed to my post,
equi -
HT1338 why does my mac keep right clicking when i am not trying to right click?
New mac is only 2 months old.
I will be happily typing along and click on something and then it keeps popping up with drop downs as if i right clicked!
I must be doing something wrong?Check System Preferences Mouse pane (or Trackpad pane). For the Mouse pane, make sure the Primary mouse button is set for the one on the left.
The Control key toggles the "right-click" with the primary button, when the Control key is pressed down while clicking the primary mouse button (or on a Magic Trackpad). So make sure you are not pressing the Control key inadvertently.
Also, if you are using a Magic Trackpad (separate or on a MacBook), the botton portion (along the edge closest to you) is sensitive to clicking on the right side versus left side. The rest of the trackpad is not. So, if you are clicking near that edge closest to you, a click on the right side will be a right-click. It is designed this way, because some people use their thumb along that edge to click (not their "pointing" finger); on old-school trackpads, physical buttons were located there. So, you can still point with the index finger and click with the thumb on the right or left "button." You should be able to adjust this behavior in System Preferences Trackpad pane. -
Why does my Mac keep trying to install EXCEL?
I am trying to use the XM Radio site(using Firefox), but I am being told that I need to download a plugin. I link on the Plug In & it is WIndows Media Player. So I go to the site via the link, and download the version for the Mac OS X. But when I try to install, it wants to install Excel!
And this is not the first item of software that has tried to do that. I do not now recall just which program I was trying to install but it also tried to install Excel.
I Dont Want Excel! I want to listen to my XM radio player.
What's the deal with Excel forcing itslef onto my computer!Thank You! THANK YOU! thank you.
I installed Flip4Mac & it works just fine now.
I can't tell you why Excel is
being so assertive, but I suggest, as does Microsoft,
that you use the Flip4Mac plugin
for Quicktime for your Media Player needs. MS has
abandoned Media Player on the Mac! -
Why does my Mac keep crashing when playing Batman: Arkham City?
This is the second time I've played through this game. The first time I played the entirety of it without any crashes, but since then there was an Apple/OSX software/hardware update and now it crashes every 5 minutes or so. The update I'm talking about supposedly fixed graphics/GPU performance issues, so I'm wondering if that update is the problem now. Here's what I think is going on:
In order for the system to allow decent performance on the Retina model MacBook Pros, more GPU power had to be unleashed (either through some overclocking or just letting it run longer before slowing the processes down and kicking the fans up??) so they had to allow the GPU to get hotter, but now it gets too hot and so OS X is terminating the causal application, Arkham City, before any damage is done.
Also, no matter what graphics settings I use in the game the FPS rate average only changes from a low of 47 fps to high of 52fps. I'm not that into gaming, so I don't really know much about it, but that doesn't seem to make sense to me.
Here is a list of all the settings that I have ON when I get an average 45fps: Full Screen Anti-Aliasing: 8x; Detail Level: High, Dynamic Shadows: Yes, Motion Blur: Yes, Lens Flares: Yes, FXAA: Yes, Light Shafts: Yes, Reflections: Yes, Ambient Occlusion: Yes, V-Sync: Yes, and Particles: High
When I switch everything to either off or its lowest setting, it only gives me an additional 5-7fps, AND it still crashes, if anything, more often than when the higher settings are used. How can I get my Mac to let me play through this game like I used to?
The computer running Arkham City is a 2012 Macbook Pro with Retina Display, 15", Quad 2.7Ghz i7 w/8MB L3 Cache, 16GB RAM, and 768GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1024MB + Intel HD4000.
Thanks for any help you can give!
P.S. If you haven't played the Batman Arkham series, I highly recommend them both (this current issue notwithstanding). You can make an appointment with a Mac Genius at an Apple Store for a consultation. They will examine your Mac and try to figure out what might be wrong with it. The consultation is Free, whether you have AppleCare coverage or not.

Why does my mac keep crashing?
My mac has started to crash unexpectedly.....it does this when carrying out different tasks but mainly in safari as thats usually what im using....
I cant watch video content or facetime for more than a minute without it crashing and i cant work it out!!
- I've run the apple hardware test and no troubles were found
- I've reseated the RAM and carried out third party tests on that
- I've followed various guides on the net to work out what the problems are like running in safe boot (which doesnt seem to crash) etc but dont seem to find what the problem is
Here is an extract from the system log before a two crashes:

Please help!
I can post other kernel logs etc if that helps...You need to determine if it's a hardware issue or software. So, try booting from your Leopard installer disk, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk. Report back. Also, how much free space have you on your hard drive?

Why does my Mac keep crashing/freezing?
I've tried to troubleshoot this before. I've backed everything up on Timemachine, did an Erase/Install. Purchased MacKeeper. I restarted computer pressing shift key, then restarted computer to clear out any accumulated junk files. I've been running Virus Barrier for more than a year, and all filters are up to date.
But it's getting WORSE! It used to happen once a day...today it happened 3 times. I thought it might be related to Chrome, but this morning, all I had open was Mail...
This is what happens:
In whatever application I'm in, usually Chrome, after some action, sometimes just loading page, the rainbow time spinning wheel appears. Spotify stops playing music (though there is not window warning that I've gone offline or anything like that); I wait, wheel keeps going, I clicked on other open applications, they appear fine, go back to application with spinning wheel. I open force quit; I force quit application, it appears to quit, but then everything becomes unresponsive. Eventually I try to force quit all other applications, they appear to close, but don't really, then Finder becomes unresponsive, I try to Relaunch Finder, until I only can stare at empty desktop. The only thing that works is pressing button at back of computer to force it to shut down and restart.
From past personal experience both at work and at home (am a designer, so always use Macs)...a computer that keeps crashing this way, eventually becomes damaged and has to be brought to store for repairs. This computer is only 2yrs old, and problems worsened after its second birthday (April 21st)

Why does my mac keep crashing? HELP
Hello Community,
I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro Intel i7 (OSX 10.10.2). When I first purchased the computer there was a problem with the logic board (when switching from intel graphics to NVIDIA...so when something graphic intensive was being used). Apple of course replaced the logic board and didn't have any issues. Well I believe the problem is back. When I run iMovie it crashes and I just tried to use App Zapper and that actually caused it to crash. I have posted the message I got when my mac rebooted. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated (going to Genius bar tomorrow).
Thank you

Thunderbolt Bus:You have the MacBookPro6,2—the Edsel of Macs. It may have the logic-board defect that was covered by a recall program that has now ended.
Residents of the EU may be entitled to warranty service for up to six years after purchase.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present.
You may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. If you decide to pay for a new logic board, test thoroughly during the 90-day warranty period on the repair. Some owners have reported that they went through as many as three replacement boards before getting one that worked.
If you don't want to pay for the repair, you may (or may not) be able to work around the problem by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
Often the problems start after an OS upgrade. If the upgrade was recent, and you have backups, then you can revert to a previous OS X version. -
Why does iBooks (Mac) keep taking my PDFs off my iPad iBooks?
I updated to OSX Maverick and I mostly happy BUT I have a MASSIVE collection of pdfs that were organized and layed out the way I wanted them in iBooks on my tablets. When I synched my tablets to update my backup, the books literaly vanished off my iPad.
I can't restore the libary for some reason, everything I do to add the backups on my mac desktop doesn't work. It's not as easy as 'drag and drop' prior to Maverick was. and the one method I get that lets me the ability to upload my folders of organized pdfs keeps getting them kicked back as 'You don't have access to the folder Temporary'.
It's the first big step BACKWARDS I've ever had with an Apple product and one that given the size of my pdf book library (over 600 organized/sorted books) is getting a bit annoying.Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.
