Why does my mac stutter when announcing the time?

I am completely updated to the latest version of OS X " 10.9.3" on my mid 2012 Macbook pro 15" and i have it set to announce the time on the hour. being said, my Mac, often stutters when trying to announce the time. i just want to know if anyone else is having this problem and if so, is there a fix for it coming in the future?

When was the last time you restarting your Mac...?
Never ever had it happen in Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion no matter how long my uptime was.
I have had slurred speech a time or two in Mavericks, but only when my uptime was over 30 days.

  • Why does my Mac Air when on the internet the window just freezes when loading?

MacBook Air 13, 1.8 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Macintosh HD, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB, OS X Yosemite 10.10.3
When connected to the internet things run pretty smoothly, then when I change sites or load another window it sometimes starts the load and then freezes. Sometimes I can delete the window and continue with an open window or everything just quits loading. I have tried to clear history, no help; I have cleaned disc and removed large files to free space, no help. The only thing that seems to help is shutting down an restarting, sometimes have to do this more than once.

    Problem description:
When opening a page on internet it sometimes freezes and will not load. When trying other website they will not load. I’ve had this problem since loading Yosemite.

  • Why does my iPad reset itself all the time?

Why does my iPad reset itself all the time?

    Hello!
The same happened to my yesterday night when I was charging my iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1. My first impression was that could it be and auto update (to install iOS 6.1.2) however I'm still on 6.1.
It erased ALL my info and shows the initial configuration wizard......this is totally a mega ***!!!!!!

  • Why does iMovie '11 crash when opening the transition browser?

    I need help ASAP!
I am editing a movie for my mom and I need to add transitions between clips but when I open the transition browser the whole thing freezes, then crashes.  I am using a 13" 2010 Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo with Mac OS 10.7.2 and iMovie version 9.0.4 (2011).  Please help me figure out why it won't let me open it!

    Two things to try:
    Delete iMovie Preferences
Go to the mac desktop, look for the Go menu. Hold down the Option key, then click on Go
Choose Library > Preferences > (look for: com.apple.iMovieApp.plist)
Drag the .plist file to the trash and restart iMovie
See if the Transition Tool reacts differently
    Repair Disk Permissions
Reboot the Mac while hold down the Option key
Wait until you see 2 hard drive icons, choose the Recovery Volume disk
When you see the desktop appear choose Disk Utility from the menu that launches
In Disk Utility choose Repair Disk Permissions (then let it run until it finishes)
Reboot the Mac, launch iMovie and see if the Transition Tool reacts differently
If iMovie continues to crash at this point, it may be something related to the Project you are working on itself. And in that case, there's a different set of steps to take. But the first one is to Duplicate the project, then attempt to take out bits and pieces of it that might be corrupted and causing the Project and iMovie to become unstable.

  • Why does my mac restart when using FCP X?

When using Final Cut Pro, why does my Macbook Pro restart the middle of a project?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Why does my Mac stutter anybody I am using applications?

    Hi there,
I've been having this problem with my Mac for awhile and I'm finally fed up.  It's really hard to describe the issue but here it goes:
At any point of using my Mac throughout the day I am finding that there is a slight lag for the mouse movement, keyboard entry or music starting.  I thought at first it was just the mouse but then using the trackpad I noticed that it still occurs.  Then I noticed it occurred with the keyboard then it's also happening when using something like Garageband.
It's most obvious when using the mouse though since that's the primary thing I'm using for the most part.  If I'm dragging and dropping a file across the desktop there is usually a slight pause in the movement of the file icon (maybe a millisecond) and then the mouse cursor will appear where I thought it should be.
    System specs:
    MacBook Pro
    Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013
    Memory: 8GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
    Graphics: Intel Iris
    Software: OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks
    Bluetooth Magic Mouse
    Bluetooth Apple Keyboard
Any suggestions?  I've tried looking throughout Google and forums but I keep coming to a dead end.  I've done the following so far:
    - Turned off every application except maybe Chrome or Safari (same result)
    - Ran a hardware test, everything is fine according to it
    - Disabled applications running the background (google drive, dropbox)
    - Disable Wifi
    - Disabled Bluetooth
    I'm running out of ideas...

    Hey vaughn31,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
So the computer has a little lag when using an input device. A very frustrating situation to be sure. Try starting up in safe mode, it could be a startup item or plugin or extension causing an issue and if it still happens try running disk utility.
OS X Mavericks: Start up in safe mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14204?viewlocale=en_US
OS X Mavericks: If your Mac runs slowly
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13895
Use Disk Utility to verify and fix any issues with your hard disk.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • SLOW MAC: Why does my mac run faster during the "erase free space" operation?

    Hi community!
So I've been using my Macbook Pro Late 2012 edition for just over a year and a half now, and to no surprise, I find the spinning beachball whirling away more often than I'd care to see it. So I start a full mac clean-up including deleting login items, using Appzapper to clear up my apps, using Onyx to clear up some cache elements, deleting unused files and freeing up hard drive space.
I've successfully cleared over 60% of disk space, (200GB used, 300GB free), but I find a recurring problem persisting, despite my best efforts to get rid of it. You see, every few seconds, the spinning beach ball appears and freezes up my entire desktop no matter what I'm doing. Trying even the simplest things, like opening the apps in the dock or right clicking a file takes ages, movies freeze up all the time, regardless of what app plays them, finder is slow and it has nothing to do with my ram usage (I use the app FreeMemory to check in real-time how much I'm using) or my CPU usage (Activity monitor open at all times). It has to be the drive.
So then I tried running ClamXav, and found a windows trojan, which I deleted manually, but no change.
Now, during all these stages I was regularly running erase free space opeartions (Fast x1), and noticed something curious: during the operation, my problem disappears. I still get occasional loading beach balls, and ocassional jumps in movies, but other than that, I can use my mac normally again.
So now, I'm constantly running erase free space operations and it's painfully annoying to say the least.
I've tried defragging, to no avail.
I had the problem on Mountain Lion, and upgraded to Mavericks thinking that could change it (by the way it took 18 hours to install mavericks, don't know if that's related).
In other words, I need your help. Does anybody know if I've no choice but to buy an external hardrive, backup my data, and erase my entire homedrive? Can this situation still be salvaged?
    Thanks!

  • Why does iTunes use 100% CPU all the time, hogging my Macbook Air?

Decided to post this here instead of the iTunes forum, since it might be related to hardware too.
New owner of a 2011 13" Macbook Air, core i5 based.
My problem started about 1 week ago, after it had run out of power completely one day. At the first boot after that it was incredibly sluggish, totally unusable. After waiting for 5 minutes and still being unresponsive, I turned it off and then back on. Then it booted fine. HOWEVER, ever since that time I noticed the following behavior:
    - iTunes stays at 100% + CPU all the time, mostly between 100-120%. Even if it's not playing. Even when I deleted the entire library and left it empty.
    - iStats reports CPU idle between 50-65%. However, CPU temperature is still about 55 degrees C (which, I think, is far less than what it should have been with 50% idle cpu). I can confirm the low temperature by touching the chasis.
    - the cursor freezes and jumps every few seconds, making the mac kind of unusable with iTunes open.
This has been going on for 2 weeks now. The problem goes away every now and then (iTunes sometimes goes back to regular CPU usage of 3-5%), but most of the time it's there.
    Help!
    P.S.
    Mac OX X 10.7.2
    iTunes 10.5.2

Cee Pee You, is a OS modification. Apple recommends that you un-install these prior to a OS update because Apple makes changes to the OS all the time which breaks programs like these.
I avoid Unsanity LLC products like the plague. Notice the company is a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC), which makes it difficult to sue the company in case of a defective or malicious product. So the risk using their products is all yours. Their APE framework modules have been used for malicious purposes because anyone can write a module that uses the APE framework.
I also avoid installing anything that requires a administrative password unless I completely trust the source, like Apple mostly. That admin password is the key to the security of our machines, not to be given out lightly or carelessly.
You'll have to contact Unsanity's [email protected] because what I'm reading online is it's very difficult to remove as it doesn't "exist".

  • Why does rsync -Pauv fail to preserve the time stamp?

I'm trying to backup files to a USB HDD using rsync.  I specify -a, which as I understand it should preserve all the file attributes including the time stamp, but the time stamp of all the files on the USB HDD is the time they were copied.
    What am I doing wrong?
    TIA,
    -Brad

Shoot, I did not send that particular rsync to a log file.  I have logs of other file transfers, and could setup some tests.  Anything in particular I should look for?
FYI, on a somewhat related note, I found out the hard way that using '*' after the last / in the path causes rsync to skip hidden folders and files in the specified folder.
    For example,
       rsync -Pauv /home/me/* /media/usbdrive/me
will skip any hidden files or folders in /home/me
       rsync -Pauv /home/me/ /media/usbdrive/me
will act on hidden files and folders in /home/me
That may be a "duh" to a lot of users in this forum, but it was eye-opening for someone like me who has been brain-washed by Billy for the last 25 years.

  • Why does FF 9 work part of the time and others I can't even get it to load a webpage. When I open it, it says about blank and Tab on the tab bar. Will not let me go to any websites. HELP Please!!

After FF 9 installed every little while I lose whatever page I am on and it goes to about blank. When I tried to reload my pages it just sits there. Yesterday I was about to uninstall it and it started working fine again. This morning it decided to stop again, I have uninstalled it, rebooted and reinstalled and it's still doing this.
I never had this problem with any of the other versions. It all started with FF 9. It downloaded itself after I told it ignore update. I am getting very flustered with this happening.
It acts like it has a mind of its own when it comes to when it is going to work for me or not. I need to fix this somehow. I even tried reinstalling 7 again and it did the same thing as 9 does now. I took it back off and put 9 back on since neither want to work properly.

Thanks for reading and thanks for the advice. Perhaps I'll ask them about it next time this problem occurs, although carrying the thing through a mall that is only about a mile away is the least of my worries. I'll do if it is both free (I don't make enough at my job to pay for such a service) and relatively speedy, although I'd hate for them to come over and for the computer to work properly (as bad as that sounds). It'd be a wasted trip and nothing would get fixed.
I'm contemplating videotaping myself performing my "fixes" on it the next time I have this problem.

  • Why does my battery shorten when out the house?

    Hey everyone,
This has been bugging me for a while, so thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give. It's concerning a 13" MacBook Pro, new in April this year.
Basically, whilst I'm in the house (not plugged into the mains, on battery), I can expect 5-7 hours on battery. This would be with Safari, Mail, iCal and Twitter open, and connected to the internet via Wifi.
But, whenever I am out the house (normally at college), and only have one or two apps open (normally Pages as I'd be writing an essay etc) the battery only lasts two hours, Max.
Anyone have any ideas about why this would happen? Or what I can do to find out more?
    Thanks again!

I gave your idea a go, and you were bang on! The process was 'Google Chrome helper' and it was using SO MUCH CPU power that I saw the number peak at 100% - something I'm pretty sure shouldn't be possible.
But when I tried to quit the process, it closed, but another one opened up within seconds. I could not get rid of it.
I googled the problem, and it turned out to be a setting - under preferances, the one about anti phishing. I disabled that, and job's a good'n.
    Thanks once more!

  • Why does my mac battery die before the battery reaches 0

The battery on my mac will usually hit around 20-23ish and then die. I'll try to turn it on but it acts as though the battery is actually dead. Any way to fix this?

    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.
    Best.

  • Why does Firefox open 3 Tabs all the time when I open it? One is my home page but the other 2 are about plug in being installed. How do I make that stop?

When I double click Firefox to open it, 3 Tabs automatically open. One is my home page but the other 2 are about plug ins being successfully installed. I want for only my home page to open. How do I make this stop?

But there aren't any symbols. It's just set to http://www.yahoo.com
And every time I open Firefox, it opens with 3 Tabs, one of which IS Yahoo but the other 2 a regarding plug ins being successfully updated. I've even gone as far as to uninstall those plug ins and it still opens with 3. About ready to uninstall Firefox and stay with IE
