Why does my macbook intermittently lose internet connection when I have internet service?

Hello,
I have checked around on Apple forums as well as the wider internet. My situation is just a bit different than the other solutions I read about.
I have a MacBook, 10.6.8. I have an internet antenna that plugs into the modem, that I plug into my computer. What I have not found in the forums are solutions to an internet connection loss that happens with a hardwired internet connection, ie ethernet wire, not wireless.
I contacted my isp and I was told there is a very strong connection. The internet will cut out when I open another window or just at random times, maybe for 20 seconds. This is very irritating.
Skype and itunes run just fine even when the internet cuts out. I feel there is a problem with one or my of settings. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Most often BitTorrent, iCloud or some other cloud-data application is involved in cases of mysterious bandwidth use by a Mac. If you use iCloud, uncheck at least Photo Stream and Documents & Data in its preference pane and see whether there's any change. If you use third-party network backup software, disable that. If you use a torrent client, remove it.
Otherwise, there's no easy way to monitor network usage per process using built-in tools. If you're an advanced user and you want to try, see the manual page for the nettop(1) shell command. It may or may not provide the information you're looking for.
The third-party products Rubbernet and Little Snitch are supposed to record network usage by processes. I can't vouch for them. Both were available as free trials, the last time I checked. I suggest you uninstall either one when the question has been answered.

    Try this:
    1. Settings>General>Date & Time>Turn off set automatically
    2. Set date one year ahead
    3. Go back to iTunes and try again.
    4. You will get the same error.
    5. Go back to settings general date and time and turn back on 'set automatically'
Try connecting to iTune Store again.

  • Why does my iphone shut down my computer when i have pictures on my phone

Why does my iphone shut down my computer when I plug into the USB port when I have pictures on my phone.  My computer says it has found a new digital camera - then my computer shuts down.

Thank you Lawrence.  I forgot I used to run a Logitech webcam several years ago and I hadn't uninstalled program when I changed the camera to a different one.  I uninstalled the camera and it now seems to accept my phone with pictures onto my computer without shutting my computer down. I really appreciate your help with this problem.

  • HT201303 Why does the ITunes store lose my CCV. I have to re-enter it every 5 seconds. Article above was useless.

Why does ITunes lose my CCV?I have to re-enter it every 5 seconds!

I have the problem as well. It is NOT a locked account problem.
The problem is new with the 11.0.3 update and may be related to Mountain Lion (I finally updated).
If I quit iTunes, restart, and enter the password, it recognizes the password and continues. If I do the password reset routine (I have now created FIVE new passwords since the 11.0.3 update!), it accepts the new password. I suspect it's a poor coding practice inside iTunes, aggrevated by the address space randomisation added in Mountain Lion.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro battery discharge even when the charger is plugged in?

I've been having a myriad of problems with my MacBook Pro's battery. The main problem is that when in use, the battery steadily discharges often at a very quick rate even when I have the charger plugged in, the only way I can get it to recharge is to close the lid or turn the computer off, however, it has recently started to take a very long time to recharge (I left it for 12 hours and it charged from 0% to 60%). I also noticed that while off, the charger light occassionaly goes green and then back to orange every few minutes. When I manage to get the battery up to 100% charge, it usually stays at 'Charged' for around 5 or 10 minutes and then it just comes up with 'Calculating...' as it slowly discharges, it also occassionaly claims that it is recharging and that it will take around 6 to 8 hours but it only charges about 1% of the battery and switches to 'Not charging'. Also, sometimes the charger light wont come on when it is plugged in and the Mac refuses to acknowledge it is plugged in for some time.
I took it to the Apple Store a few months ago and one of the Geniuses reset the System Management controller and did a quick hardware test which seemed to fix it but the problems returned soon after, I cannot enter the hardware test screen and subsequent attempts to reset the SMC have done nothing, he also tested the charger and tried it with another charger but it did not help.  Hope you guys can help me as I am completely stumped by this and its beginning to annoy me as my Mac is becoming almost unusable.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro tell me that I only have 1GB of memory, when I have 2GB?

Hello all, I'm a new user so forgive me if I'm asking something already asked.
I'm looking to download OSX Lion on a 2010 Macbook Pro, 13 inch.  When I tried to download it, an error message came up saying that Lion needs 2GB of memory.  I checked "About this Mac" and it told me I only have 1GB of memory.  I opened up my Macbook, and there are two seperate 1GB sticks inside...call me crazy, but doesn't that mean I have 2GB?  I ordered two more 2GB sticks to upgrade myself to 4GB just for the sake of having more memory, but I'm confused and concerned.

    Try re-seating the sticks.
Trouble shoot,  swap the location and monitor the results here:
    >About this Mac>More Info>Memory
Is it a bad bank or a bad stick of RAM
or no issue after you more firmly seat the RAM

  • Why does my Macbook always ask to connect to BTOpenzone even after removing it form my wi-fi networks?

Everytime I open my Macbook to go online it automatically selects the wifi network of BTopenzone or BT Wifi with Fon. I have only ever connected to the Internet in this way once, over a year ago, and have removed it from my networks list several times and asked not to be connected in this way.
If I want to connect to my home wifi I have to join other networks and search for it there. It frustrates me every time. Does anyone have any idea why my laptop is doing this?
As you can probably tell I am not the most computer literate. Possibly this is an easy thing to rectify and I am just being naive? I hope so! Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Hi Eric, thanks for replying. I've tried the above, deleting BTOpenZone and moving my home Wi-Fi to the top of the list but it's not working.

  • Why does my macbook pro go to sleep when i move it?

I'll be sitting a my desk and decide to slightly move my macbook pro so its facing me a little better and it will go to sleep.
I have a MacBook Pro (retina display) 13-inch, which I bought in February 2014.
It happened both when I had it connected to power and when it was running just off battery.
I was watching youtube videos at the time, and now that I've stopped the problem has gone away.
What would youtube have to do with my macbook going to sleep?
And now I've gone back into youtube and its not doing it anymore, so confused?

  • Why does my Macbook Pro crash almost immediately when I'm offline?

My Macbook Pro (late 2007 if i'm right) crashes randomly, whether I'm using a program or not. Suddenly the whole screen freezes (I see a black mouse and not the spinning ball of death). So I'm forced to use the hard restart.
It started a while ago, when I still was using Snow Leopard. So I did a clean install, and had to buy Mountain Lion. Ever since the clean install there were 3 software updates. But still I'm having the crash problem.
After this last update to 10.8.5 I'm noticing that when I turn WiFi off it almost immediately crashes. And sometimes when I reboot I don't have the time to turn on WiFi again or it already has crashed.
Though I remember that my mac also crashed when I was using the ethernet cable and when i was using WiFi. Only now with the offline modus it seems that crashing is the only thing he can do.
This is what I already tried:
-Making a second account as administrator and start up in the safe mode: but still crashes when I go offline.
-using disk utility to veridy and repair disk permissions: all good.
    -NVRAM reset
    -SMC reset
I don't know what kind of information anyone needs, but:
Processor  2,2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Geheugen  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Videokaart  NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 128 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
And my harddrive has 56 gb free right now.

Thank you for your fast answer.
Even though I don't understand the connection between working offline and my videocard I believe you because I see sometimes blocked images when something tries to load or when i scroll down, mostly in photoshop. So I'm considering buying a new computer.
I tested my harddrive a while ago and it still seemed ok. (still i back up all the important stuff constantly).
Though I wanted to ask if you know if the Nvidia is a part of my logic board. I had my logic board replaced in 2010 because of an Nvidia error. So that part isn't that old. Still I can imagine that it doesn't work well anymore with other hardware or software on my computer.

  • Why does my macbook make a funny noise when I open it?

After my macbook pro has been on the charger for some time & I open it up, it will make a funny noise & the screen will be blue with a bar on it.  Takes a little bit before I can use it,  Does anyone know what is wrong?

  • Why does my MacBook Pro close open programmes when it sleeps?

    Hi,
I'm having an Auto Sleep issue with my MacBook Pro (13 inch, Mid-2012).
When my mac goes to sleep it closes any and all open programmes. Not only is this annoying but it means the mac can't be left to run a process, such as a length Time Machine back-up, as it will close down the programme mid way through.
The issue happens when running on battery or mains power.
I've gone to System Preferences > Energy Saver > and I've set the Computer Sleep slider-bar to be Never.
I've done this for both Battery and Power Adaptor settings.
I've also made sure the 'Put Hard Disc to Sleep when possible' setting is disabled
I've tried changing to these Power Saver settings then restarting immediately but no joy.
It only seems to happen when the mac goes to sleep from inactivity. If I manually put the mac to sleep it doesn't happen.
It hasn't always done this. It started about a year after I purchased the Mac (new from Apple).
I recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. and this hasn't done anything to fix it.
I've tried searching the net and various Mac forums and I can't seem to find anyone reporting the exact same issue. I'm hoping someone on here will be able to help.
    Any ideas anyone?

Or take it to your nearest Genius Bar; if there is a problem, you can exchange it for another machine. Or return this one (14 days from the date of purchase if it was purchased from Apple) and buy another.
