WHY DOES MY MACBOOK'S APPLICATIONS CRASH!!?!??!?!??!?

All my applications crash, when I try to back up, or reinstall apps, they still crash. Carbon Copy Cloner crashes and all these other apps crash PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Do you have a good copy of an earlier CCC backup? always good to have more than one so you don't corrupt your good backup set.
Assuming you tried all the disk directory repairs and safe boot, it may be that your system device (ssd?) has to map out some bad sectors or storage cells.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro keeps crashing recently

I've got my Macbook Pro for my studies. As a design student, design softwares dominates and are extremely important for us.
Recently (I have no idea why) My Macbook just keep crashing and crashing crashing non-stop. This Macbook is approx. more than 1month old but less than 2 months. This crashing event started around last friday, when i headed to my studio and 1st thing was to switch it on (I seldom shut my Mac down, just close it and head to sleep), after using it for no more than 45mins, the blue screen or rather 'the blue screen of death' that my friend called it, just popped out all of a sudden.
Tried to get it on, it hung with a white screen right after i switch it on, the Apple logo and spinning wheel appeared. After resting it for about 5mins, i was able to get it on, i started trouble shooting manually, and found out that my Mac crashes when i was using Google Chrome (My main browser) halfway.
I changed to Safari from then on and found out that my Mac crashes when i use MSN messenger. So i changed to Adium. Then my sister borrowed my Mac to open .FLV files using Adobe media player and it crashed again while she tried putting it in full screen. I avoided all these and after 2 days, i switched on AutoCad on my Mac and it crashed again, while its loading.
I tried calling Apple for help but they told me they couldn't tell me more because it hard to say whether its software problems, or my Mac's hardware problem.
I've used Google Chrome and MSN since the very start and no problems surfaced until then. And i'm sure these popular apps like Adobe Media Player, Chrome, MSN and AutoCad are NOT suppose to crash because these apps are widely known and my Macbook is rather new.
These are the following hangs that i've been facing :
    - Blue screen with vertical stripes
    - Horizontal stripes with typical green and pink pixel
    - Screen just froze
    - Screen froze, but cursor still moving
    - White screen right after the Apple Logo & spinning wheel at Start-up
    - Soft blue screen right after the Apple Logo & spinning wheel at Start-up, right before log-in
I'm in desperate need of help, please kindly advice,
    Wilson Yeo,
    Thank you

I agree with Apple. It is hard to say, but from the list you provide I would guess it's a problem with the mainboard. What I definitely do know is what you have to do: Go to an Apple store and tell them what happens. They will most probably replace the mainboard.

  • Why does my macbook freeze and crash since i upgraded to snowleopard

i recently upgraded the operating system for my macbook and also added some RAM. i went from tiger to snowleopard as instructed by the apple live chat guy (very helpful feature) and he also told me i needed to get more RAM. i purchased these from the apple store and did the install myself. the computer seems to run fine and does recognize the upgrades (in the system profiler), but will freeze or crash when i am running a webcam or am streaming content for any length of time. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Why does my MacBook Pro keep crashing?

    MacBook Pro 5,3 (mid-2009)
    Snow Leopard 10.6.8
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM
    Bluetooth Off
WiFi on (50% of the time)
After sluggish performance (and now crashes) I've investigated w/Disk Utility app.  I've been finding "Disk Needs Repair" more and more frequently lately.  Was every month or so, then every week and now my Mac sometimes crashes multiple times in a day (whether it be a white screen or that black box that overlays the screen with the message to restart the machine).  Often my MBP will not read the installation disc when inserted, but when I do get it to read, the Disk Repair is always successful (says Disk Utility).
    I've:
-Repaired the disk from the installation DVD
-Repaired permissions from the installation DVD and just from the startup disk
    -Reset PRAM/NVRAM
    -Reset SMC control
...multiple times.  Crashed keep coming back, sometimes immediately.
I used Yasu (cache cleaning software) for the first time a few days ago.  Seemed to remedy all crashing issues...until yesterday.  It crashed again with an external HDD attached (not that the ext HDD was at fault, I'm just trying to provide as much info as I remember).  Not only is this very frustrating, inconvenient, etc. -- it's the machine I use for my job (performing as a DJ for over 15 years) and I just dread a crash mid-performance (was very weary tonight), since it crashed during sound check last week.
More info (for what it's worth):
-This HDD is less than a year old (Seagate Momentus XT 750GB 7200RPM)
-The RAM is upgraded, not factory installed (has been installed for over a year)
-Battery was replaced (supposedly OEM) about a year ago (under warranty for another 2 years)
I've copied/pasted the crash reports to notepad in hopes someone will be able to diagnose this issue with them.
    Mediafire Link
    Also,
-I opened Activity Monitor app last night, but found nothing odd.
-I opened Console app last night and saw many crash logs and they just continued to roll on out.  Let me know if that info will help and I'll be happy to copy/past or save screen shots.
I've reformatted my machine long ago for a separate issue.  I'd really like to find someone to decipher these crash reports to know if reformatting again is necessary.  I'd rather not do it as a guess, but I understand my options could be limited.
Your time and efforts are appreciated.  I love this machine when it behaves.  I'd like to see it stick around a bit longer.

OK, so - I used Memtest in verbose 64-bit single user mode to find my installed RAM OK installed individually, but bad installed as a pair.  Interesting that was the case, but they will be mailed in to get them repaired/replaced.  I installed my factory RAM and Memtest verified them OK after 4 runs.  All has been fine, up until 10 minutes ago.
After playing a movie with an external monitor plugged in, I unplugged the external monitor and the charger, closed the lid and packed up my MBP to return home.  I opened the lid only to find my home screen appear for a split second before the screen turned white.  Had to power down, holding the power button for a very extended period of time.
At first, my MBP would not turn on right away.  After a few tries, I heard something, but no fans and nothing on the screen (alost sounded like just the HDD was running).  Hit the power button again to shut it off.  And again to turn it on.  The power-up chime played...and played again....and again - it just kept looping by itself, with a slight distortion noise at the tail end of the chime.  Powered down and up, this time seeing the kernel panic window.  Did this 4 more times (incl SMC reset and NVRAM reset).  The 5th time I saw the kernel panic window, I held Shift + Command + Option + Power button (SCOP, used for PMU reset) until it powered down.  My MBP finally got to the login screen.
I immediately went to Disk Utility to Verify Disk.  "This disk needs to be repaired" it said, again.  Before I left for the evening, I actually checked w/DU and it reported the disc as OK.  Something is going on and I don't know what.  I'll attach the Error Report below:

  • Why does my macbook pro keep crashing/restarting while streaming the world cup?

I was watching this time for over an hour and all of a sudden (without other apps running or any action on my part) it crashed. I've done a disk utility repair and it's still happening. I need some help. Here's the last crash report:

Thanks, that seemed to work. But now I've been having a new issue lately. I'm starting to think its hardware related, but either way I've had many crashes...some not always with a crash report. It seems my SMC is acting up at times, and other times the screen will glitch out and produce these pixelated horizontal bars and then crash. I just reinstalled OS X, I've run the usual diagnostics. I'm getting ready to run a Apple Hardware Test, but I figured I'd come to you for help first.
Here's the most recent crash that occurred (no horizontal bars this time), but it did crash and refuse to restart (it beeps the strange tone from what seems like a spot other than the speaker, that's how I came across the system management controller reset). Anyway, here's the report:

  • Why does my Macbook Pro constantly crash?

    Hi,
For several months now my Macbook has been driving me crazy by crashing over and  over.  Prior to installing OSX, my screen just went black and I had to force a reboot.  Now when it crashes it automatically reboots and I have to relog. However, it often crashes during the reboot after I type my password!  Today it is particularly bad. I am working on an important assignment and trying to gather data from Powerpoint slides and it seems to hate Powerpoint. I have crashed about 7 times in a 5 minute period.  It is incredibly frustrating because I have to go through relog process and then re-open Powerpoint and then find the last slide I was working on, click a couple more and BANG x 9203423!
This is a copy of my last crash report - it makes no sense to me but hopefully some Mac guru out there in the forums might be able to help me!

Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
             com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Why does my macbook screen keep crashing?

Ok, so i dual booted (through boot camp) windows 7 64bit, but now it seems when i close the laptop shut, or sometime just waking it up from hibernation, (sometimes not all the time) the screen will come up pure white with flickering yellow splotches, im not quite sure how to describe the problem cause ive never seen anything like it before. There is no way to navigate the screen and it never return to normal, the only solution i found is to hold the power button until it shuts off then turn it back on.
Has anyone had this issue? Please help i need to know if i should send my comp to apple!

  • Why does my Adobe Audition keep crashing on my MacBook Pro?

Why does my Adobe Audition keep crashing on my MacBook Pro?  I've updated everything, and there are no other issues.  It is OS X and Audition CS6.  When I'm mixing a track, it will just shut down with a crash notice.  Very frustrating.

    Hi,
What is the crash notice you receive?  OS X is very good about keeping extensive, detailed crash logs.  If you launch Applications > Utilities > Console.app  and open the "User Diagnostic Reports" group on the left, can you drag the most recent Audition crash report into an e-mail to [email protected] ?  The contents of that file should make it more clear to us why Audiiton or the OS thinks a crash is happening and will help focus troubleshooting.

Hi. Because the forum you originally posted in is for beginners trying to learn the basics of Photoshop, I moved your question to the Photoshop General Discussion forum.

  • What is application memory and why does my macbook pro keep running out of it?

what is application memory and why does my macbook pro keep running out of it?

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, the memory chips on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the startup volume.) That activity is relatively slow and causes the whole system to be less responsive. It can happen for two reasons:
A long-running process with a memory leak (a kind of bug)
Not enough memory for your usage pattern
Please note that if the cause is a memory leak, installing more memory will not help. That's likely if you already have more than 4 GB of memory. Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
These instructions are for OS X 10.9 and later. Some details may be slightly different for earlier versions of OS X.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the View menu, if it's not already selected. Select the Memory tab. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The processes named "Safari Web Content" render web pages for Safari. They use a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider them prime suspects.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet4" or "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing software. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. Empty the print queues in the Printers & Scanners preference pane (which has a slightly different name in each recent version of OS X.) If you don't use an HP printer, reset the printing system. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
"Wired" memory should be a small part of the total. That memory is not swapped, but it makes less physical memory available which may then result in swapping. If you have a lot of wired memory, that's usually an indication of a memory leak in a third-party program that modifies the operating system at a low level. Ask for guidance in that case.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

  • Why does my macbook pro stop loading the webpage every time i try to access netflix or youtube?

Why does my macbook pro stop loading the webpage (in safari) every time I try to access netflix or youtube?

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro and Mac Pro keep freezing?

Why does my MacBook Pro freeze?
    MacBook Pro
    2.4 GHz intel Core2 Duo
    4BB 1067 MHz DDR3
    OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard
I turned it on and I went to safari to look things up. Safari froze and then the whole thing became unresponsive - the mouse could move the cursor but it couldn't open any programmes.
Tried safe boot several times. No help.
Tried to repair disc permissions. The first time it got a little way then said 'user stopped repair' or something  - though I didn't touch it. Tried again it got all the way through and said 'repairs complete'. But no help.
Couldn't clear cache etc as couldn't get to the relevant part to do it.
Opened in single user mode. Ran the fsck -fy thing twice. First time it said both “The volume appears to be OK” AND “FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED.” In 2nd run it just said  “The volume appears to be OK”. No help.
Booted it up from the Superduper bootable backup version on a USB external drive. It seemed to boot up ok but then tried to click on something and the same thing happened - spinning beach ball and it just hung.
Erased hard drive and reinstalled snow leopard but it just does the same thing. Suggesting a hardware issue not software but...the Eerie thing is, we tried backup version on boyfriends Mac Pro and it worked fine on there but 24hrs later his Mac Pro has got exactly the same screen freezing, unresponsive issue. Could this suggest there's something evil lurking on my back up? Can't get an appointment at Genius Bar until next week and need to get some work done, so hoping someone might have some ideas?
    Cheers

... does Apple products work much better with using Apple routers?
While a genuine Apple router is likely to result in success, the reason for having one instead of another product is that it eliminates a lot of uncertainty. For example, we do not know the model D-Link product you have so no one is in position to speculate what the problem might be. Also, it makes support on this forum easier since there are only three AirPort models to choose from and they all work more or less the same.
Generally speaking your iPods, iPads, MacBooks, and AppleTV ought to work with any router though, provided it is fairly recent and meets accepted industry standards. If in doubt you can purchase an AirPort Base Station, which comes with 90 days of free telephone support. If it does not result in any improvement for you, you can always return it for a complete refund. The return period is 14 days and be sure to keep all material - receipt, box, manuals, etc...
If you elect this option be sure to follow its installation instructions, the most important of which is to power down your modem prior to connecting the AirPort Extreme, Express, or Time Capsule. All your other equipment will need their network settings adjusted to "forget" the D-Link network and connect to the new one.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro make background music and video quieter when I am on FaceTime?

Why does my MacBook Pro make background music and video quieter when I am on FaceTime? When my girlfriend and I are trying to watch a movie on Netflix together while on FaceTime my MacBook Pro always decreases the volume of any background sound on my computer so I can barely hear it. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you!

Have the same issue too. Apple can you please change this annoying feature. You are making long distance relationships more difficult.
I like how Facetime was with the old iOS, where nothing was dimmed. OR at least maybe if you could give users the option to turn on or off dimming of facetime.

I read from threads that it is a logic board problem....How do I solve this problem?

Try an SMC reset. Follow the method for "a battery you should not remove yourself."
