Why does my computer keep disconnecting from my wifi?

Some users with various Wi-Fi problems have reported that they were given the following instructions by Apple Support, sometimes with success. After completing the procedure, you'll have to recreate all your settings in the Networkpreference pane. Make sure you know how to do that before you begin. Taking screenshots of the preference pane may be helpful.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Reboot and recreate the network settings.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 2
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 3
    Reset the PRAM.

  • Why does my mac keep disconnecting from SMB Share

    Hi Guys,
I'm having a little issue with my office network. We have a small network of 4 Windows 7 PC's and 2 Apple Macbooks pro running Snow leopard 10.6.8
We use to have an old server that was running Windows XP which was working great with all the computers. 2 weeks ago the server died, so instead of buying a new server I just moved the "Shared" folder (with all our files) to one of the Windows 7 PC's and made that our new server.
Everything has been working fine between the PC's, they have NO issue. But the macs refuse to stay connected. They'll connect fine and work Ok for a few hours, but eventually they will always disconnect and we'll have to restart them. We restart them several times a day and it's very annoying.
The windows 7 share is just a regular share with the "everyone" group getting full permissions (even though we connect with the Administrator account on the PC). I disable 128bit encryption, and enabled SMB file sharing on the macs, I disabled sleep and hibernation on all machines but it still disconnects.
Does anybody have any ideas to what could be causing this or what alternatives I can take?
Is there a way to start an AFP server on that Windows machine?

    Hey sydthekyd5,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your home Wi-Fi network. Check out the following resource for relevant information regarding your symptoms:
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202222
Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly
    - Your Mac may not not stay connected to your Wi-Fi network reliably.
    - Your Mac may stop accessing the Internet during use.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer disconnects from its Wi-Fi network unexpectedly.
    1. Check your range to the Wi-Fi router and reduce the effect of interference.
If your computer is too far from your Wi-Fi router or your environment has too much Wi-Fi interference, then your computer may not detect the Wi-Fi network properly. The easiest way to check for range limits with your Wi-Fi network is to move your computer or your Wi-Fi router closer together and make sure that there are no obstructions (such as walls, cabinets, and so forth) between the router and your computer.
See Potential sources of wireless interference for more information about interference and solutions.
    2. Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If your computer works fine when connected to a different Wi-Fi network, then the issue may be related to your network router or ISP. In that case, contact the manufacturer of your router or your ISP.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Why does my mac keep disconnecting from my Wifi?

After downloading Yosemite, my computer (macbook pro) keeps disconnecting my home wifi.  I had no problems with my wifi before and my roommates have no problems with it still (they do not have macs).  This is only happening at home though, when I go anywhere else, my wifi stays connected.  I have tried deleting/forgetting my wifi network and reconnecting, restarting my computer, i searched through my settings but I don't know what to do. It disconnects like every two minutes. When it disconnects and i go to reconnect, the wifi is still there and has full bars, my computer just doesn't stay connected to it.  If anyone has any idea what to do that would be awesome!

  • Why does my macbook keep disconnecting from my network

im currently using (borrowing) someone elses wireless internet at the moment but i dont see why my macbook is having trouble with the wireless connection from downstairs when it was working fine for the past week, what should i check for to make sure nothing is wrong??? everytime i try to connect to it, the network disappears from my list of networks, could this be due to two other computers using the network?? im rubbish at computer stuff so i need some tips!
    cheers

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference that has been introduced recently in the immediate area that is preventing you from getting a good clean signal to your MacBook.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like MacStumbler or iStumbler to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.
    Other things to try:
o Switching channels - In some cases (especially when interference is at play) switching channels on the router can improve reception weakened by various causes.
o Recycle the AirPort card - You may want to try turning your internal AirPort card off then back on if you are having access issues. This can be accomplished through the AirPort menu item, or using Internet Connect (located in the Applications folder)
o Disable any third-party wireless applications (monitors/sniffers) - Some third-party applications that manipulate or otherwise interact with the wireless connection may cause problems.

  • Why does magic mouse keep disconnecting?

I've got an Apple Magic Mouse  that is less than one year old and it keeps disconnecting from my Mac Mini.  It just started doing it.  I've put in fresh batteries and restarted the computer.   I've got all the latest operating system software.   Nothing is out of date.   Every couple of minutes it just randomlly disconnects then reconnects and so on, over and over again.  It's only about 2 feet away from my Mac Mini.
    Anybody know what to do?
    Thanks.
    David

I thank you for your help, Ascendi, but I have no idea what you're saying.  I'm guessing I stand alone, because others do understand.  What I got from it was that the batteries don't fit snuggly, and to shove aluminum foil... somewhere.  I'm don't have a PhD in battery terminal dimensions and their terminonolgy.  But I do appreciate that you helped.
David / Flashkube2... EXACTLY!  After years and years with my wonderful white Magic Mouse, just today the exact same thing started happening, only I was losing connection every 20 seconds.  Half the time, I'd get it back.  I feared it was a Bluetooth error, or a hacker was "stealing my juice"  So I got online here, read this stuff, wiggled my batteries around (for years and years, I've only used Duracel), and for the last 10 minutes, I have kept connection with Mr. Mouse and Mr. Mac.  Keep your fingers crossed!
So if this problem arises again, I just stuff aluminum foil in there?  (I'll be a wee bit neater than "stuff").  Speak "positive terminal" and "negative terminal" and "top of the batteries" to me, because "depth of the recess" and "vernier caliper" are Chinese to me.  Does "battery recess" mean how the two batteries sit in its casing?
Maybe I just didn't have enough coffee this morning.  I'm not ususally shtooo-pid.  (don't go there!)

  • Why does my iPad keep disconnecting itself from my Wi-Fi

A couple of weeks ago I noticed my iPad had disconnected itself from Wi-Fi, so reconnected and thought nothing of it. The next time I turned it on, it had disconnected again (Wi-Fi was still on though) so I clicked in to settings again and back onto my network. All works fine - good - but then the NEXT time I turned it on (from sleep, not fully off) it had disconnected AGAIN.
This has now become the norm for my iPad. Constantly disconnecting itself from the network and doesn't reconnect automatically when I fire it back up.
Can anyone think what might be causing this, it's pretty annoying.
(I've tried switching it off fully and back on. No dice...)

    Hi,
Try changing your security options on your router to WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES].  You will need to log into your wireless router to change this.
It worked for me.  Before it was dropping frequently and after the change, it is still connected over a day later.

  • Why does my ipod keep disconnecting and connecting every half a second?

I had my iPod touch (4th gen, ios6) synced to a desktop and when I tried connecting it to my new laptop to sync it keeps connecting then disconnecting every half a second (flashing on and off) and will not connect at all. Do I need to do something with my old computer? I don't think it's something wrong with the cord because it connects to the wall just fine.

Different conductors/contacts are used for charging and dats. Thus, it still could be a bad cable.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reboot the computer
    - Try another USB port and cable
    - Iphone 5 lightning port charging problem - SOLUTION!
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Try on another computer to help determine if iPod or computer problem
    - If it works with other computer that indicates a problem with your computer. Try
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem with all compouters, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Why does the wifi keep disconnecting on the Macbook Air (Bought September 2013) ?

Is this only my MacBook Air, or is it with everyones. The wifi keeps getting disconnected and i would have to switch off and then switch on the wifi in order to reconnect.

    Hi Ettedos,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing unexpected behavior on your MacBook Air.
I'd recommend starting with the Wireless Diagnostic built into Mavericks:
OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.4 or later
Use the Wireless Diagnostics application included with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.4 and later to identify and resolve Wi-Fi issues. For further information, please see About Wireless Diagnostics.
