  • Why does my new Mac mini crash on setup user account ?

Brand new Mac mini i7 with fusion HD.  on first time setup, I got as far as the create user account screen & it seemed to be taking along time creating the account (10-15min) so I called apple. the guy asked a few questions & then instructed me to switch off the mini & try again. same result, locks up at the create user account screen with the small wheel turning (slowly) at bottom left next to the text - creating account.  after several attempts of turning off & on & trying to setup user accounts with different names & home folder names, the apple guy steped me through a download & erased the hard drive & then started to download OSx. So after a fresh install of OSx, I still have exactly the same trouble.  Can get through the initial setup about languages etc but after completing the text fields in the great user account page & clicking next, it says creating account at the bottom left, the wheel turns for 5 min or so then it stops & nothing more happens.
I am very frustrated & disappointed with this. any help appreciated

    update:
visit to apple store.  the guy turned on the Mac mini & setup an account with apple store defaults, which does not log into the apple server for Apple ID user or password etc...
All works fine. the guy had no idea as to what was causing it to crash, can only assume that it had an issue with loging into the Mac server with the Apple ID. as this was the only thing different to when I & the apple care guys, where trying to set it up at home. happy it works but still very annoyed with the 15hours I had to mess around & the half a day trip to the apple store.

  • Mac mini restarts on its own after shut-down.

The Mac mini will restart by itself about 10 minutes after shut down. I turned off all the restart options in energy saver. Funning 10.4.8 with the latest firmware instalation.
Any suggestions how to stop this?

I have had this problem for a looooong time and I think I finally resolved it. Last weekend I was trying a demo of MacPilot 3 and found Elgato's EyeTV had two items in the Power > Events list. Apparently when you set EyeTV to start up the computer for it's schedule it restarts the computer randomly rather in a reasonable amount of time before the recording begins. Since there were two files, I think 1 was left over from previous EyeTV version and was starting up the computer even though I told EyeTV not to start the computer at a later date. Deleting both files seems to be the solution.

  • Why does my phone constantly turn off on its own as if the battery is dead?

why does my phone constantly turn off on its own as if the battery is dead? Its so annoying! Every day once my battery life span is at about 40%, my phone will start shutting down with the dead battery sign once it is down. Then after about 3 minutes i can turn it back on.

Tons of people have this problem with iPhone 4S and 5, whether they are on iOS 6 or 7. You can only hope that one day Apple realizes that this bug (software ? hardware ?) is a *real* pain. So far, they haven't paid attention.

  • What does the new mac mini really look like? raised or not?

looking at the images on the mac mini page http://www.apple.com/macmini/ it clearly shows the mini with it's front edge resting on the ground in all the images from the front. the reflections touch. but when you follow the 'Design' link it shows that the new mini is resting on a raised foot, so it floats.
i'm pretty sure the floating version is the real version, but why the inconsistency?

it's not an optical illusion. it's just wrong in the images. i agree with the people who made the illustrations, it looks better when it's flat on the ground and not floating.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/16/mac-mini-mid-2010-teardown-photos/
that gives you a better idea of what the new mac mini looks like from the front in a similar angle to the images on apples site. notice the very large gap between the reflection and the front face of the mini. also notice the large black shadow caused by the mini being raised up on the black circular foot on it's base. There isn't an angle that you you can move the camera to that would eliminate the shadow or distance between the reflection and the case and still see the front face as you do in the images.
it's just an odd inconsistency that misrepresents what the final product looks like.

  • Does the new mac mini have airplay

I have a late 2010 Mac Mini and I was looking into it the see if the new Mac Mini offered Airplay. If it did I would be looking to sell my old Mac Mini and purchase a new one sometime in the near future.

Yes it will. Any 2011 or newer Mac mini will support it.

  • Does the new mac mini have Hdmi 1.4?

I'm thinking about buying a Mac mini in combination with a 3D monitor but every where on the Internet they are talking about HDMI 1.4a or something like that... Is it necessary? And does the Mac mini (2012) have it?

Not certain, but it says here that 1.4 does not support 3-D, that 1.4a is needed...

  • Why my brand new MAC Mini has electric current noise??

Just bought a MAC mini last friday:
    2.5GHz Mac mini
    2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    4GB memory
    500GB hard drive1
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
    OS X Mountain Lion
but i can hear the electric current sound when i use it to veiw the web page even i mute the sound, is this normal or i need to return it?
i also want to upgrade memory to 8 GB or16GB so whats the different between 8GB and 16GB? dose 16GB apparenta lot faster than 8GB?
i only use this MAC mini to paly WOW and do some graphic design work with ADOBE CS6.
    Thx

It can be any number of things:
A noise from the AC adaptor.
The sound of the HDD motor.
    Sound from the fans.
A buzz produced by the display.
Hard to know which or even why. Take it back and have it checked where you bought it. If there is a defect then they will replace if for free, no questions asked, within 14 days from purchase.

  • How well does the new Mac mini preform

Hi, im thinking of picking up the 2014 Mac mini (i5, 2.6ghz, 8gb ram) And I was wondering how well it performs with yosemite,
    thanks

If I needed a second computer around the house for email, surfing the web, correspondence, and editing family pictures I'd pick one up or look for a good deal on the previous model. Besides the obvious downside of not being upgradable, the internal hard drive (as opposed to the SSD) is a serious bottleneck on performance. Several years ago I said I'd never buy another computer with a hard drive and that was when I had an iMac with a 7200 RPM drive. Now that Apple is installing slow 5400 RPM drives in its base desktops I advise everyone to get an SSD or Fusion Drive. I was frankly surprised how good Intel's Iris integrated graphics is (compared to its previous efforts)

  • Does the new mac mini server do lights out management?

can't see it in the tech specs anywhere...

I would say no. The Mac Pro does not do it and that is used by a number of my clients as a server.

  • Why does my iPhone 4s turn off on its own periodically, always with atleast 50-100% charge?

This happens about every 2 days and my phone is always charged sufficiently so it is not a low battery issue. It also won't turn back on with just the power button. I took a chance and held the power button and the main browser button in order to get it to turn back on but it takes a few minutes to power up. Is there a recall, as I have read about this issue before since my wifes phone did it the very day we bought them.

you have to isolate it if its a hardware or software issue
the best way to do this is to actually restore the device as new and observe if the issue persists
if its fixed, great, if not your probably looking at a hardware problem with your device
before restoring, its a must that you have a back up of all your data

  • Newbie question... Will LE 8.0.2 run alright on a new Mac Mini and SL?

    Hello.
Newbie forum user here, although I have been lurking these forums for a while, and I am pretty good with LE-8.
I am wondering if there are any Mac Mini/ Snow Leopard/ LE-8.0.2 users here?
My 2006 iMac has a screen flicker, and the repair is almost as much as a new Mac Mini with Snow Leopard and 4gb ram.
Does a new Mac Mini w/4gb ram running Snow Leopard have enough computing power and resources to run LE-8 OK?
I have an external Firewire (400) drive, and a FW interface (Alesis IO-26), but I see the new Mini has only Firewire 800.
Alesis has a Snow Leopard driver for the IO-26.
Are there issues using my current Firewire 400 devices, LE-8.0.2, Snow Leopard, on a new Mac Mini?
Any comments and pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I don't use a Mac mini but it should be fine with Logic 8.0.2 + SL
Here's an adapter for your firewire connections:

Probably - it really depends on how you're planning on using it - are your projects mostly audio tracks, or heavy software instruments? A new Mac Mini has greater performance than your current iMac - look it up in MacTracker

Try to get a quote from a component-level repair shop. It sounds like you went to an Apple store, that mostly swaps out major components. It could be a simple fix in the ATI or Intel video circuitry.

  • New Mac Mini or iMac (late 2012) for Logic Pro?

Between these two specifically, which would be better for Logic Pro, and why?
The new Mac Mini (mid-tier) has a 2.3gHz i7, and the low-end iMac which has a 2.7GHz i5.  Both are quad-core.  The i5 is faster in clock-speed, but the Mini sports the i7, which has hyperthreading.
Can anybody offer any insight on which of these two computers would be better for Logic?

While this is not quite the answer you be looking for...
The 2011 Mac Mini Server, is in many ways the better bet for use with Logic because...
It has a 2.0Ghz i7... so slightly slower than the 2012 models..but it is the i7 version with 8 Cores.. so it still flies..
It comes with 2 x 500GB 7200rpm Hard Drives built in (Compared to 5400rpm Drives in the 2012 model)
Memory easily upgraded to 16GB for about $90 via Amazon..
..and yoi get a free copy of OS X Server, if should wish to use it at some point in the future... (The MMS comes with the Standard OS X installed and you have to run the add on server program to install OS X server so if you don't need the server stuff, don't run the Server installation software and you'll be running standard OS X  as normal)
USB2 instead of USB3 is about the only other important difference that matters for AudioExt Drive use but using the FW800 and Thunderbolt ports, via Tbolt to FW adaptors on the 2011 MMS removes the need for USB3 I find..
Othert than that the 2011 and 2012 models are pretty much the same...
But.. the real kicker is that Apple are currently selling refurbished ones (with full warranty) at $759.....  down from $999 originally...so they are quite the bargain..
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC936LL/A/refurbished-mac-mini-with-lion-serve r-20ghz-quad-core-intel-core-i7
I bought two of these originally and have never regretted it.. So much so that i just picked up another as a spare...
Got to be worth consideration... and at that price.. You could buy two... and use Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 to sync them together..
A Basic Guide to VEP5 and Logic info that i wrote, can be found here...
    http://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=78956http://www.logicprohe lp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=78956
...add a screen and still save money conpared to buying a mid level iMac.... and you would be getting one **** of a punchy system for your buck.
    Other than that suggestion..
In regards to the original question... Always go for the i7 models as hyperthreading adds 4 more (virtual) cores and that can really make a difference in performance compared to the 4 cores of an i5...
