Why does my newsstand take up two spots?

why does my newsstand take up two spots?

well, i found out why, and here it is...
there was an invisible folder entitled "volumes" which contained 300 gb worth of unsuccessful time machine transfers. i would not have been able to ever find it or know of it's existence (since it never returned any search results) had it not been for some innocuous little microsoft word virus. (i ran virus check and found multiple copies of the same word file infected, and was able to open each in finder view to follow them back to their originating folder(s), and the rest is history)

Why does the keyboard take over and type c's across the search box (no hands involved)?

There are only three possibilities. Either a dangling hand hitting the c key, or if you have a bluetooth keyboard connected and something is pressing a key, or you have some bad harware.  Eliminate the first two, and if you still have the problem, take it in for service or replacement

Why does Apple TV take hours to record movies?

Not sure what you mean by 'record movies'
If you are trying to rent a movie and it's taking a long time before it starts then that is due to your connection.
720P requires 6mbps for instant streaming
    1080P requires 8mbps
You can switch to SD in the settings
To check your connection go to speedtest.net

You might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
You might then need to log out of your account on any iOS devices that you have  by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store (Settings > Store on iOS 5 and below) and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on them
If that doesn't fix it then you might need to contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • Why does App store take me to a different country store, yet does not return me back

Why does App store take me to a different country store, yet does not return me back.
Im in u.s., was searching for app, was asked to change store, i did, tried downloading canadian app, was informed i had to purchase from u.s. store (is this true, even though it is a free download) then it left me there without instructions on how to return to u.s. store.
Now ipad is stuck in canadian store. How do i return to u.s. store?

You have to find an app that is only available in the US store.
If the problem is on an iPad, etc:
Go to a search engine (like google) on the iPad/iPhone Safari and type in abc app download. Then find find a link that says iTunes.apple.com/us/app/abc-player. Tap it, and it will access the App Store. Eventually, a box should pop up that asks you if you want to switch to the US store. Confirm that, and it should bring you back to the US store. You don't need to download the abc app.
    If on a computer:
I haven't confirmed it yet, but I believe there is a flag icon at the bottom of the iTunes Store main page similar to the one at the bottom of this page that you can use to change your country.

  • Why does it sometimes take 30 seconds for the dock to come up after bringing the curser to the bottom of the page?

Why does it sometimes take 30 seconds for the dock to come up after bringing the curser to the bottom of the page?

Try doing a Dock restart using the following Terminal command:
    killall Dock
Log out/in and test. If that doesn't work.
You need to look in your user Library/Applications Support/Dock for the .db. Use the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/ Library/Applications Support/Dock.  Move the .db to your desktop.
    Then try a dock reset.
    Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter the command
    killall Dock
Log out/in test. If it works okay, delete the .db from the desktop.
If the Dock is the same, return the .db to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Why does iphone videos take so long to come up on the apple tv?
1080P has a large file size but are there ways to get it to start to play faster?
Hard wiring it into the LAN helped a bit but what is really slowing it down? WPA2?
    Thanks,

could be the wifi speed as in 56Mbit vs. newer 300Mbit version
or interfearing from other wifi networks which use the same channel
or microwave or dect phones which also operate on the 2.4Ghz band

  • Basic Question: why does exporting Movie take so long?

I import an hour long H264 640x480 movie into imovie. It takes about eight minutes.
I then add a few chapter markers. That's all I need to do.
Then I export as a large movie, also H264. It takes four hours.
So why does it take so long, as it is the same format? Is it just because the size is a a little different? Is there any way to export the movie at the same size as it was originally? Then would it export more quickly?
    Thanks.

    … What is a res?
I assumed that imovie did support h264, as up to now it has been exporting all my movies as h264 by default.
    ooops, sorry: res=resolution
iM is meant for Camcorder imports - those trigger the import routines: .dv gets 'cloned' into Events, HDef gets converted into the AppleIntermediateCodec ... which offers the two (three) standards 1920x1080, (1440x1080/anamorph for HDV/'HDef on tape' sources) and 1280x720 ...
The EXPORT codec h.264 isn't meant for editing, but optimized for playback and file-size.
    technically, a AVCHD/mts IS h.264
but to avoid technical probs, Apple prefers to transode into intermediates, aic.mov for consumer editor, proRes for FCPX ....
there's playback-codecs and edit-codecs ... for instance, playback-codecs (mp2, h264, Sorenson, VP6 etc) do not store every frame ( ! ) to reduce file-size; now, you like to edit with frame precision ... what shall happen?
    an edit-codec contains any solid frame ... = file-size mucho bigger ...

  • Why does my MBP take so long to boot?

My MacBook (2006, Core Duo, 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 10.6, 5400rpm drive) cold-boots to the desktop in 33 seconds.
My MacBook Pro (Mid 2007, Core 2 Duo, 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM, 10.7, 7200rpm drive) cold-boots to the login screen in 1 minute 17 seconds.
    My work MacBook Pro (Mid 2010, Dual-core i7, 2.66GHz, 8GB RAM, 10.7, 7200rpm drive) cold-boots to the login screen in 1 minute 6 seconds.
All of these are timed with nothing physically connected to the computers. Why does my oldest, slowest laptop boot in half the time of my newest fastest one? How do I bring the MacBook Pro boot times down?

Well it's a combination of the bloated beast of 10.7, it's auto-restore of programs and having more RAM for the Power On Test System to check on the second two machines that differs from the first.
You would think the faster hard drive would help on the second two machines in boot times, but that's not the case as it takes longer for 10.7 to get setup.
Plus Lion was just thrown out there like Vista was, half baked and tested little, 10.8 is the one they are tweaking to be better I can only assume.
Only thing I can advise is to drop all machines to 10.6, or make due reducing the restore at boot programs in 10.7.
You could do a Disk Utility > Zero Erase and fresh install of 10.7 on the last two machines, install apps next then files, keep the boot drive below 50% filled, that's the best you can do really for 10.7, do the same for 10.6 and it will be fast.

  • Why does my iPad take forever to charge?

Why does my iPad 2 wi fi take forever to charge?

The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes.

  • Why does my iphone take so long to turn back on when the battery runs out?

Ok, granted, I am guilty of not always plugging my iphone in when it gives me the low battery warning. But why does it take SOOOO long to get enough charge to turn back on? If apple is taking suggestions, then my suggestion is that you should just be able to plug it in and it should be ready to use within a minute, like other cell phones. I've had my battery die mid phone call, and then had to wait for it to get enough charge to call back. I know its maybe only about 5-7 minutes but that seems like forever to return a dropped call. Does this happen to anyone else or is something wrong with my phone? Any suggestions?

Apple set the default to 10 minutes before you can use the iPhone. After 2 minutes you'll get an image of the low battery. It's in the iPhone Users Guide, page 49.

  • Why does FiOS internet take so long to connect when I boot my computer?

Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2.    M424WR modem/router.    Every time I turn on my computer or even if I reboot, internet takes up to 2 minutes to be able to use.    My computer doesn't detect any internet connection until, it seems, it's good and ready.   The modem is NEVER turned off and everything else in the house dependant on the internet connection doesn't have a problem.   Phones, wireless lap tops, or the PS3.    Why does it do this?  I have put IHA messenger on manual in startup.  But I still get the same problem.   Is there any way to fix this?  It's so annoying.
    And Please, Verizon support, don't send me any private messages that say to call verizon support or asking me to send you my verizon account info.  I absolutely HATE that when you guys do that.   I'm not spending half my day on hold, and you don't need to know that to answer why the computer is taking so long to find the internet connection.   If you don't know why it's doing it, then say you don't know why, or better yet, don't even respond at all.  {Please keep your posts courteous}

I have both an XP machine and a Win7 laptop. Both take time after booting to access the network.  The culprit is Norton (Symantec). In both cases it runs a security check BEFORE it allows network access.
You may not have Symantec products installed, but if you have any other antivirus software it it probably doing the same thing.

  • Why does the lion take a whole day to download?

i started my download last night and it said 1 day to install. Of course a storm knocked internet offline and I had to redownload. Why does it take a whole day to download?

It's 3.6 GB and solely dependent on Internet connection speeds. It takes about an hour on my relatively fast connection—15-20 Mbps downstream. Blame Apple for developing this insanely inefficient delivery method—they're heads are stuck in the clouds and they refuse to face reality.
