Why does my partners iPhone 4s not connect to WiFi, but a similar model does?

Me and my partner both have an iPhone 4s, both bought within a month of each other about 18 months ago, with the same iOS version (7.0.2 (11A501) ), same model number (MD235B/A), and same modem firmware number (5.0.00).  However, while mine has never had a problem connecting to Wi-Fi anywhere, hers will not connect at home unless she is stood right next to the router.  The signal progressively dies off as she gets into the next room, and wont reconnect to the Wi-Fi.  My exact same phone has no problems.
When my partner is out and about and accessing Wi-Fi there is absolutely no problem at all, it connects fine and is completely usable as you would expect.  The only issue is our connecting at home.
I have already attempted to reset the network settings and this gave a very weak signal, but useable.  She left the house, came back, and once again the iPhone wouldn't find the Wi-Fi.
Going into my router, it showed the device as 'Inactive', so I deleted it to try and let it detect the phone as new, but while it allowed me to connect it to the router like before, it is not showing as a detected device in my router settings.
EDIT : 5 minutes after connecting, the phone has once again reverted to a 3G only signal and has lost the Wi-Fi connection.
My partner tells me that there was no problem before changing the security of the router about 7-8 months ago from WEP to WPA2, but I don't necessarily believe that.  I don't really see this as a problem anyway because in the past I've found the lesser security settings to cover up other problems along the way.
What else can I try to get this sorted?  I'm thinking that there is an actual problem with the phone rather than a settings issue, however it would be good to get some other advice.

No-one at all?
This has never happened to anyone, nor can anyone offer advice?
If not then it's off to the Genius Bar

Have you tryed to restore the iPhone too ?
Restore the phone in iTunes using a backup, and if needed as a new iPhone, without using a backup.  However, the greyed out WiFi is often due to a hardware failure requiring replacement of the phone.

hi, my iphone is not connecting to wifi. there is no problem with the connection of wifi. i tried so much but the connection is not stable. some times it connect and sometimes not connecting at all. if connected also its disconnecting again.pls help

At the very least, I recommend you restart your router, (your internet box).
More detail on your problem is needed - are you in a submarine? On the moon? On a tropical island?
You can help yourself by providing as much info as you can about your present situation - what kind of router do you have? Have you moved it? DId you update it?  Did you do anything to change your setup, and if you did, what?

  • IPhone will not connect to WiFi

My iPhone will not locate my wifi even though all other devices connect to it no problem. It's like the network isn't even there.
This happens every couple of weeks and I have to go to settings -> general -> reset -> reset network settings and then it works again. I guess this is a bug having to do with too many stored networks? Why doesn't apple fix it?
Today the usual solution didn't work and neither a hard reset.
How can I fix this? Thanks.

If no change after resetting network settings, try restoring your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
If no change after doing this, more than likely there is a hardware failure. The iPhone includes a one year warranty.

Can any one provide me an solution for this issue. Thanks.

MAC address filtering is not turned on and it is not entered into the router.
There is no limit set on the number of connections.
The password which I entered is correct.
Yes, tried restarting the router by removing power for 5 mins.
I could able to connect my other apple devices into this wifi router. Only the new device is not connecting to wifi.
My new deivce has iOS 7.0.6. May be if I upgrade to iOS 7.1.1, this will work?

Does the iPod see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
    Did the iPod connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Why is my iphone 4 not connecting to wifi

So I have had my Iphone 4 for two years and it has been great. Last week i bought a new computer and when we hooked it up my phone started acting up to the wifi and says unable to join. I dont know if the new compter has anything to do with it or not. My fiances iphone 5 still connects. i call my phone company and they reset our internet and i can then join on but then it kicks me right back off. I just want it fixed!! lol

Sounds too coincidental to have both phones go bad at once on the same day.
It could still be your router, even if you have reset it.
Have you tried connecting to another WIFI network, like a public WIFI or neighbor's?

  • Iphone 4 not connecting to wifi

    All,
Suddenly my iphone 4 will not connect to my home wifi. There are 4 other devices currently connected that do not have issues (including my iPad, iMac and wife's iPhone 4.) I have done the troubleshooting check list: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
