Why can't I send a text to a contact from my I-pad but can send to that same contact on my  I-phone

Are you saying you are successful in sending text messages to Android users from your iPad?  I doubt you can do that as iPad does not SMS, which is what a cell phone does, but iPad is not a cell phone.  The Message App in iPad was designed to let you send messages to other iOS based devices.
There are Apps you can get from the App Store, like TextFree, which will assign a number to your account, but from iPad you can text all your contacts regardless of type of device.  You will however need to let everyone you message with know what number a message would come from as it won't come from your cell number.

  • When I press on a land line number, the phone does not call the number, but comes up with a screen to send a text to it.  How do I get my phone to default to phoneing a landline?

When I press on a land line number, the phone does not call the number, but comes up with a screen to send a text to it.  How do I get my phone to default to phoneing a landline?  When I press a mobile number in contacts, the phone automatically phones the number.  I do not mind this as I hardly ever send texts, but I would like to have the option of what to do.  This seems such an obvious issue but I can not solve it even with much web searching.  Thanks!

I can't delete my question, so I'll just say that you press on the type of number written in the box to the left of the box you typye the number into.  Dumb or what?

  • I have an Iphone 3gs and I want to cancel the sound that makes when I send a text! I don't want to put the phone all in silent! just to turn off this awful sound everytime I send a text! pls help!

I have an Iphone 3gs and I want to cancel the sound that makes when I send a text! I don't want to put the phone all in silent! just to turn off this awful sound everytime I send a text! pls help!

Yes, I have the option "NONE" on my phone but what happens is that I have the incoming text without any sound (selected in "none") but when I send a text, still happens! that annoying sound!

  • Cannot send regular text to someone with Mobile data off... or send sms most of the time at all

I am having a lot of trouble sending text messages.  I get them fine but cannot reply to them.  It just sits there pretending to send randomly.  If I have my mobile data off it won't ever send texts even using the stock Messages app with the default group text mode disabled.  Anyone know why I cannot send text messages without my mobile data enabled??  I feel this might be the root of my texting issues.  Note these are plain LOL and simple texts with no attachments. Even with full bars of 4g no luck half the time sending with mobile data enabled...
This started with the Kit Kat update.

Nope, no signature or attachment. Went into a Verizon Store on Saturday and they called in the issue but only were able to get it to send a text with full 4G bars after powering the phone off for two minutes then powering it back on and resending.

  • How do I set up my iPhone 4s to send international texts, How do I set up my iPhone 4s to send international texts

I can't send texts to other countries. How do I set my phone up to do this.

There is nothing to 'set up' on the phone. Contact your carrier as ckuan suggests. Your account will need to be provisioned to allow International messaging. This usually costs more money. Make sure the number you enter in messages contains the country code of the person you want to message.
If you want to send an iMessage to someone with another iOS 5 device, there is no provisioning on the account needed and no cost involved.

  • Keep getting an error message when trying to send some texts to valid numbers, "Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code.

Does anyone know why I keep getting an error  message, "Error invalid number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code.  The numbers I'm texting to, are valid numbers.

Did you ever get resolution to this problem?
My coworker has the identical issue, including the number (+1 (1)(216)116-11) in the error reply.

  • Why can I not send a text to a contact, have to type the number to send it, or reply to an old one..

I try to send a message to a contact but it doesn't send. I can either reply to an old message from that contact, or have to type in that contacts number.
The message then sends, but if I then save the number to the contact and try and send the message it will no longer send... Very annoying

It's not the network as I can send messages to any of my other contacts.
It shouldn't be the messages itself either as I can send messages to my other contacts above.
And it shouldn't be the contact as I have deleted and then added the number again.
I'll try syncing the phone again see of that helps

  • Why is it, after all the years with this service, my wife can't get service, send a text without a long delay from the high school she works at 4 miles away??? The phone works great in the middle of corn fields but in the dead center of town, at the high

I have been with Verizon since they started in Peoria, IL and yet to this day I don't understand why when my wife goes to work at a high school, dead in the middle of town, she has no service, can't send a text without a huge delay and can't receive phone calls?  I can be out of Peoria in the middle of a corn field and I get calls without a problem, yet but within the city no service at Peoria High School or very limited.  This causes the phone to drop from LTE and then eats the battery.

Service isn't guaranteed inside of buildings especially buildings filled with steel, concrete and electrical wiring. High School buildings definitely have all three.

  • Phone is sending out texts on it's own.

I rarely send any texts on my Razr V3M.  This weekend it began sending info. to 0000006245 on it's own while I was sleeping (24 in one day).  The info. / texts were intercepted by a security company and replied to by sending  texts back to my phone saying the messages were undeliverable.   My phone shows no text messages sent but on my account online is shows them as sent.  Verizon says I am responsible for all 48 messages at 20 cents apiece and spoke as though they had never heard of this before but research on the web shows this has been happening to people for years.  I understand the number given indicates a message sent from a website but don't understand why my phone just began trying to send messages to it on it's own and now how to now stop it.

No applications downloaded and no emails sent.  None of the messages to the 6235 show on my phone.  They are being sent twice a day between 10 and 10:30 with more than one being sent at a time.  I spoke with a tech person on the phone at Verizon and he acted as though he had never heard of the problem before but after some research on the web I found other people who had the same problem as early as a few years ago.  He recommended replacing the phone, I have been with Verizon for many years without a problem but my contract is expired and being charged for these texts have struck me the wrong way.    How might I go about sending you a PM?

  • I send imessages with full connectivity, but they still send as text messages, to someone whom i know has reliable connection also, is there a solution to this problem?

This has been bothering me, im going to try restoring my iphone, hopefully that works...

I don't think this works. Even if I turn off iMessage on my iPhone, anyone who has iMessage turned on on their phone will automatically send an iMessage text. For example the picture shows what will show up on a device that has iMessage turned on, when they're about to send a message. As you can see there's an "iMessage" sign in the text box. Wether or not iMessage is turned off on my phone, it doesn't matter to the other device which doesn't know that. It's not like turning off iMessage on my phone will automatically send a message to the other phone saying iMessage is turned off, so they can now start sending SMS texts. So basically, turning off iMessage on my phone does absolutely nothing. Sorry if this was a little confusing.

  • I send a text and it comes back saying invalid or person does not subscribe. But yet I can read the text te same person sends me? Is it a problem on my end or theirs?

I send a text to someone and it comes back almost instantly and says the message is invalid or the person does not subscribe. But yet they can send me a text and I can see it. Is the problem on my end or theirs?

No. It's not an iMessage. Just a regular text message. I can receive their texts and make a call to them. ??

  • Sending as text instead of imessage

Hi.  For the most part I love imessage as it allows me and my family in the States (I live in Canada) to exchange texts without incurring international texting fees.  However, I have noticed that many of our texts are not delivered to our phones.  The problem arises because we have multiple devices with our Apple ID, so if I am out and away from wifi, sometimes, the message will be delivered to my computer or ipad and not to my phone.  When I try to send a text to my brother during work hours, I have to send it as a text, otherwise, it goes to his Mac instead, and eh won't see it until I tell him to check there.  The messages are showing up as "delivered" so none of the workarounds such as clicking the message to switch to SMS will work for me.  So far, the only workaround I can see is to constantly go into my settings, turn off imessages, and send the text.  The problem is that I don't want to have imessage permanently disabled, since I do really like it.  And to comstantly go back and forth is clunky, and contains none of the elegant ease that I expect with Apple products.  Is there an easier work-around?

Not sure how an iMessage is being sent as a text with Send as SMS turned off with your iMessage setting.
Has the recipient turned iMessage off?

  • When I send a text, it says -from: name lastname- instead of my number

When I send a text, it says -from: name lastname- instead of my phone number, how do I remove this?
I have deleted any old mail accounts and changed Appleid.

When you send an SMS, or when you send an iMessage?
An SMS/MMS can be sent from your cell phone number only and cannot be changed.
If the recipient has your contact info available on their cell phone, your name will appear as the sender of an SMS/MMS especially if the recipient has an iPhone.

  • Can I send multiple texts?

Can I forward or send a text to multiple people? and why can't I view multimedia texts?

No MMS is a topic that has been hotly debated on these boards and any answer you may find is either opinion or speculation.. only Apple knows why MMS was omitted.
You cannot send multiple texts via the SMS app on iPhone, but you can send multiple texts by way of the mail app. All you need it the specific email address each provider has for it's subscribers, I don't have the list handy but if you google or search the forums they are out there.. or maybe someone who knows off hand will chime in and post.
