Why does my Powerbook system date reset?

Every so often the system date and time on my Powerbook G4 resets? I then get a warning from the OS stating that it has lost time? I thought OSX (Leopard) updated it's time and date upon boot?? Any ideas?

The TiBook backup battery is a bit of a problem, as it is a Li-ion unit no longer manufactured by Panasonic. It resides in a small printed wiring board assembly under the optical drive and is soldered to same. The youngest one would be on the order of eight years ago, which is pretty long in the tooth.
You can get a replacement new and compatible battery from iFixit, at least, which requires some soldering skill and equipment. (I will be installing one in a few days, as Ijust ordered one of the batteries from them.)
The TiBook battery is a little heartier than just a clock battery, as it needs to be able to hold up the computer in sleep mode for at least a couple of minutes while a battery is being changed.

I use LabView 7.1 under Windows XP
I have a programm console application which accesses through Jungo Windriver PCI-E board.
This program works fine - and performs DMA data transfer between PC and Board's memory.
In order to implement this console application work together with LabView I did following:
1) Added this function inside the source:

It works fine till the last function, which perform DMA data transfer - and reboots PC.
1) Why does this happen?
2) I understand that opening console from Call Library Node, attaches together this console window and running VI. So If I close one of them - both windows closes.
   So does LabView have somekind of restrictions of accessing Hardware's functions?
I can read Board's resource information and view size of memory on board, interrupt functions and other information about device, but when I try to reach
DMA my system reboots. And I understand that this should be some kind of LabView problem, cause I tried different implementations, even without use of
console window - and the result is the same.
3) Should I split the program in to two separate processes and perform data exchange using Sockets or Pipes techology?

At LAST!!!
I solved this problem!
From the beginning I was following National Instruments manual on how to build DLL with external IDE:

Set the Struct member alignment control to 1 Byte.
Now this option caused my PC to reboot!
So could someone explain why this happened? and If it is a bad tip, so it's better to remove from manual. Then other people will not have such problems as I did
- wasting 2 monthes of time determining the problem.
I changed it to Set the Struct member alignment control to DEFAULT.
and now everything works fine.

Why does VersaMail cause system reset after HotSync?

On a clean factory default setup Treo 650, I can set up one account -- my SprintPCS account -- on VersaMail and successfully use VersaMail to download and send emails. After a HotSync with my Outlook Calendar, Contacts, Memos and Tasks, I see the following errors in my sync log. Then, when I attempt to launch VersaMail, the 650 always immediately performs a system reset.

Thanks in advance for help on this, PalmOne. SprintPCS technical support has absolutely no experience as yet on this sort of problem. I was on the line for over an hour covering the same ground I had before calling them. Because this is related to two PalmOne software products -- HotSync and VersaMail, I figure you guys would have a better idea where to start troubleshooting and ultimately resolving this.

I think I went to www.palmgear.com, and searched for filez, and found it there. to be more specific about your question, though, are you asking how to install files to palm in general (i doubt that just from reading your thread), or rather how to find the filez file in the first place?

strange, too - and you might watch out for this if you have agendus installed on your treo - now when i click on the calendar button next to the phone button, the palm does a soft reset - VERY annoying. I haven't gone through the trouble of finding a fix for that one yet, but will search one of these days...

Why does my phone use data with cellular data turned off?

I have problems with my iPhone 5 using data on its own. It usually happens at night, with all the apps closed and plugged in to charge (should be connected to my wifi). Recently, I started turning off my cellular data any time I'm at home out of desperation to save my data. Last night, my phone used 6MB of data with my data off, plugged in. I use My Data Manager to track, it matches up with AT&T's record of my data usage, so I'm pretty sure the app is not wrong. I have the 200MB plan, so I have to be very careful and it's incredibly frustrating to wake up and find 6MB gone when cellular data was turned off. Does anyone know what's going on? I haven't bothered calling Apple or AT&T, I never get anywhere with either one.

I'm not familiar with My Data Manager but from the name I would think it would tell you what app or apps have used the data and that might help narrow down the problem. If it doesn't have that information, you can go to Settings > Cellular > Use Cellular Data For and that shows usage by each app and if you click on System Services in that list it will also give details of that usage. The numbers are since you last reset the statistics (bottom of that screen). With a little time and detective work you may be able to identify the cause.
Also, there have been many discussions on various internet forums of AT&T (and other) reporting of the time of data usage not matching the actual time of the use. The usage numbers over a number of days for example are accurate but usage reported at 2AM may actually be a summary of some types of use that happened the previous day.

Why does "itunes accounts" use data with all settings OFF?

Does anyone know how to keep "iTunes accounts" under system from using cellular data?
I have already:
1. Toggled OFF all settings in the "Use cellular data for" menu.
2. Turned OFF all automatic downloads and any other options under iTunes/app store settings.
3. Turned OFF Background App refresh.
4. Turned OFF all options under iCloud sync menu.
Right now, the only thing that keeps "iTunes accounts" from pulling cellular data is turning Cellular Data completely OFF, but I don't want to do this because I lose some messaging and voicemail functions and I need to be able to use Find My Phone. I have two identical iPhone 5c's on this account. One is running iOs 8.1.2 and the above settings control it's data usage nicely. The other phone is running iOs 8.1.3 and this one uses 50-100 mb a day even with all the above settings off and the phone almost always on wifi.
I am aware that the phone will lose it's wifi connection when asleep, but that shouldn't be a problem if all the apps/settings are already set not to use cellular data. What am I missing. I've read a bunch of threads on this issue and they all suggest settings I already have OFF.

My personal phone is on 8.1.2. My daughter's phone is 8.1.3.
It is her phone that is currently having this problem, but I reported it under my account; sorry for the confusion.
My phone has had some data problems in the past, but I have been able to control them by keeping almost all data options OFF and the overall switch ON. My usage is back to less than 50 mb per month which makes sense since my phone is almost always on wifi and I don't use data dense applications.
Everything about my daughter's phone is the same as mine except for the 8.1.3 upgrade. She does use things like Instagram more than I do, but I have them all set to not use Cellular Data and the option to change these settings is locked. When I look at the usage on her phone, it isn't her apps that are pulling unexpected data; it's "iTunes accounts" under system services. All the options under iTunes/App Store (auto downloads, home sharing, etc.) and all the iCloud options are already OFF.

Why does my entire system freeze shortly after I open iTunes?

So I have OS X Lion installed on my new iMac 21.5" desktop. I don't know if I'm having an OS problem or an App problem here. Everything seems to run fine (a little sluggish at times though) UNTIL I use iTunes. Within a couple minutes of having iTunes open, the entire system freezes up. I can't do anything except for move the cursor around. If I wait around, every 45 seconds or so, it unfreezes itself only for a brief second or two and then freezes again. After waiting around for several minutes of it doing this, I can eventually manuever around to force quit iTunes.. OR I can simply turn the power off from the back of the iMac and restart... Either way, I haven't even been able to submit crashes to Apple to alert them of a problem. Once iTunes has been force quit, everything runs fine again. I have had this happen at least 15 - 20 times already and am very frustrated! Does anyone have a good idea what's going on here? Any suggestions of what I should do? I haven't contacted Apple about this problem yet.
Also, I've experienced this iTunes problem with both a small library (fewer than 100 songs), and with a very large library (1000s of songs). I usually won't have more than 4 apps opened at one time anyway as to not over burden my system.. So I don't believe I'm having a memory issue here. I've had this problem happen when my iPod was syncing, and when it was not even connected or turned on. I've tried several things including 1) reinstalling Lion, 2) resetting my iPod, 3) having all other items disconnected from my iMac, 4) I verified permissions and performed a disk repair in Disk Utility 5) turned Time Machine off & on... I haven't noticed problems with other applications.. other than once my DVD player froze up for a few seconds (along with the rest of my system) while on the dvd main menu. I really don't use many applications often and Lion is still new to me. So I'm not aware of having problems with other applications yet. Thanks.

Why does safari 5.1.3 reset after quit, after updating to Mac OS X 10.7.3?

I updated to 10.7.3 today and I set Safari up. I turned off my computer and later when I turned it back on Safari was completely reset and all the settings I had set were gone. This also happens when I quit or exit out of Safari too. What is the problem, this is getting annoying because I have reset Safari every time I reboot my computer.

Deselect: Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps

Why does my powerbook lid resist closing?

I have a used powerbook G4, and since I've had it, the lid always makes a clicking or grinding sound when I try to shut it. It seems to be getting worse, and I can definitely feel resistance when I try to close it. I'm worried that I'm damaging it even more when I close it, and I was wondering if anyone else has this problem/knows how to fix it? Oh yeah, and it seems to be only resisting on one side (the left). Thanks! Any help would be great!

I've experienced the same problem. Seems to occur after I've been carrying my Powerbook around in a backpack, and the chassis gets a bit warped. The little hook above the display doesn't want to connect easily to the latch by the track pad if there's a bit of a warp. I also experienced the problem after someone using my computer "slammed" the cover shut several times.
Two "fixes"
1. Place the Powerbook on a flat table. If it rocks a little, then the case is warped. Place a small coin under a foot that actually contacts the table. GENTLY press down on the computer so that all the feet make contact with the table, and you'll gradually remove the warp in the computer's case.
Now gently close the cover. Does it close more smoothly? If not,
2. As you close the cover, gently push the cover to the right. Does that help? If so, continue to close it in that manner until the latch begins to work more smoothly (worked for my computer after the 'slamming' incident).

Why does iphone use cellular data to contact internet when wifi is available?

If I leave Mobile Data (or Cellular Data) enabled on my iphone,
I find that the phone uses my carrier phone service to access the internet about 10 times
per day. The accesses tend to be mostly very small data transfers (say about 10KB).
I have no idea why these transfers are taking place, but I can see them on my Vodofone bills.
Since I am rarely away from my home wifi facility, I would also expect any access to
use wifi as a first choice, and notify me if there was a need to use cellular access.
So I have 2 questions. What are these data transfers that I am not explicitly requesting,
and why are these data transfers not made through free home wifi as a first choice.
Apple has advised me to turn off mobile data unless I am away from my free wifi.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't used visual voicemail. My preference would be for any data transfer to be done on wifi when wifi is available. Battery life is not currently an issue for me. I do think that it shoud be possible to find out which service or app is causing the data transfer. Although I am not near my data limit at present, I do think that I have a right to know why a service, for which
i pay, is bring used.

Why does my password keep getting reset?

I find that about 2-3 times a week, my password to my account stops working. I have to regularly reset it. Has that happened to anyone else, and any idea as to why that would occur?

I haven't heard that so far as. How much i am aware there was a password revok that happened with some users few weeks back. But that should have been fixed by now.
Try resetting your password once again and let us know in case you face the same issue in future.

Why does the Canadian regional date format default to the US date format?

I've discovered that on the iPad, iPhone and MacBook that choosing the Canadian Regional format results in the US date format of mm/dd/yyyy rather than the Canadian format of dd/mm/yyyy. I can use a custom format on the MacBook (but why do I need to??) but can't see how to change under settings on my iPad and iPhone.

In iOS8 anyone can now select the "Canadian English" regional setting and you will get dates in correct ISO 8601 YYYY-MM-DD format. To confirm this is what you should use, check your Ontario Drivers License, OHIP health card or the bottom date on any federal gc.ca webpage. Yosemite is also the same. Thanks Apple, for having listened to Canada!

Why does the sum of data in subfolders not add to the top folder?

I am trying to remove folders in my primary drive of my MacPro so as to free-up space on the primary drive. I have been using the Info button for each folder to see the total amount of data for that particular folder. When I add up the data contained in each folder they sum to a substantially lower amount of Gigabytes that is shown by the info button for the top folder. If you add the data shown in each of the top folders on the drive, the sum is considerable less than is shown for the drive in its info tab. Why is there this difference in the sum of individual folders and the drive Gigabytes shown? Is there data that is not apparent because hidden folders not shown in the Finder?

Suppose you had folder with three one-byte files in it. GetInfo reports three bytes in the folder. But each file takes a whole number of allocation blocks on the drive, probably something like 12K total.
Mac OS X also blurs exactly what is meant by a folder. For example, an Application is typically presented to you as one file, but if you look inside it, you would see that it may contain a hundred files in folders.
Some Users have reported better luck using OmniDiskSweeper (run as admin) to show how much real disk space is taken up by various items -- the GetInfo byte counts can be hard to deal with.

Why does calendar keep changing dates and times on icloud

My calendar keeps randomly changing dates and times when using icloud and it is doing my head in.
Is there a simple way of rectifying this or do I have to get rid of icloud altogether (to save my sanity?)

If this is an iCloud calendar, you might want to check your time zone and time zone support settings. Go to icloud.com, sign into your iCloud account, click your name at the top and choose Account Settings, click Time Zone and be sure it shows the correct time zone and that you have selected a city near you. Then open your calendar on icloud.com, click the gear-shaped icon on the bottom left and choose Preferences, click the Advanced tab and make sure you have not checked time zone support at the top.
On your iOS devices, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Time Zone Support (in the Calendars section) and make sure this is set to Off.

System Date Reset to Dec. 2000 + Wifi Password/Choice Lost

Does anyone know why this might have happened?
I read somewhere about something called PRAM being involved and needing to replace a battery, but then another post said MacBook Pros don't have this?? My apologies but I'm not overly tech-savvy.
I have a 15" MBP Late-2009 model, 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, with Mac OS X 10.6.8.
