Why does my transition duration never stay on what I want it to?

How come when I set the duration time for a transition, lets say for 3 seconds, it never will accept the time I type in? It will give me some off the wall number?

I really hope I can explain this well enough. I had the same problem for several months w/imovie '08 and it culminated in a short video project where I wanted a fast display of about 40 pics separated by 1 sec transitions...a migraine! Shorten one, lengthen the other, thought I was going to go nuts.
In my iphoto library, I keep a solid black frame which I sometimes use for a title background...took it in a dark corner of a museum. I added many black frames to the end of my video, and that added length allowed me to readjust each transition to the exact length I wanted. I then cut the end off and everything was stabile. My work around was a clue to what I would later learn @ the local Apple store.
Video person @ store said that each transition is tied to the photo/clip just after it, and the program needs a certain amount of time to make the transitions. I'm not really sure about the exact conversation, sorry, but think of the transition and the clip/pic as connected. Also, check your preferences to ensure you don't have a preset time for "all" transitions. Finally, I updated to iLife'09 and so far no issues. I really wrestled with this issue and I hope this points you in the right direction.

You can't change languages in any of the movies offered in the store. Some movies have subtitles but it is in the same language as the movie.
Depending on what country you are in, you may get movies in that countries native language.

Why does my apple TV never work??

Got the new apple TV but it never works!!
Switch it on, turn on home sharing, all ok....I see my library on the TV, when I click on it, it disappears!
It does work sometimes but thats not good enough, it should work every time! I am trying to move with the times and save space by downloading digital films only but if its so much hassle to watch a film, why bother?
Does it happen to others and if so, can anything be done to sort it?

These things can be tricky to pin down but while you may not be alone, most users (who never need to come here) have no problems like this.
Poor wi-fi with interference could lose the itunes connection as could security software/firewalls stepping in and blocking appletv access though normally that would just prevent any access to the library.

Why does the print cue window stay open even after job is done?

In Tiger, and every other version of OSX I have any recollection of using, the printer window opens to display what's in the cue when you select to print something. Once printing is done, this cue closes. Since installing Leopard, everytime we print from our iMac, MacBook or MBP, the print cue window stays open indefinitely after the job is done, requiring a manual closing of the window. I can't for the life of me fathom what benefit this brings or who would want this. Is this part of Leopard or a problem with our install? Something I can turn off?

If you control-click (or right click) on the open printer queue in the Dock you can choose to have it auto close once the spool file is sent.
As to why this is necessary in Leopard, well I haven't seen a good enough answer to date...

Why does the ipad 3 never fully sync?

I bought an ipad3 a few months ago, and had so much problem trying to sync it returned it a few days later. I already had the ipad 1, and wanted to upgrade. Very disappointed (because I LOVE my ipad) I was given a new one in the shop, only to find it was doing the same things. I have hung on, continuously trying to sync all y photos onto the device, for work, but it has only ever completed a full sync 2 or 3 times. It either freezes the screen or says that the device disconnected before the sync or back up was complete. I am going round the bend. Never had any problems with ipad 1, can't understand it! I am sure it is something simple I haven't done , but what?? Please help me!?

The first thing is to make sure that you're using the latest version of itunes on your computer. That may be the problem if it isn't updated. Make sure tha iipad is updated as well.

Why does lastlog say ive never logged in?

So I was checking out some threads on noost forums and I came across a thread about somebody who got a message when they tried to shut down saying that they need to input the root password to log out multiple users. This was strange becase there was only supposed to be one user logged in.
I was trying to remember which command to input to check who has logged in. I rememberd lastlog and I tried it on my own machine just to make sure it was the right one. To my astonishment lastlog on my machine says nobody has ever logged in, including me.

Why does the app (acrobat.exe) stay alive after the document is closed?

Using system Explorer or HijackThis, it is apparent that the acrobat.exe app stays active after the document that called the app is closed. Why? and how do I stop it from happening?

I have the same problem and it is irritating because if I print and save a pdf file using Acrobat, I cannot change the file name or delete the file because the system somehow thinks the file is open in the Acrobat.exe application, even after I have closed out pdf file and all Adobe applications in my user account. I need to go to the Task Manager and find the Acrobat application running under SYSTEM in order to stop the process so I can go back and change the file name or delete it...
This did not occur until my recent update to Acrobat 9.4.2.220 . Is this fixable somehow?

Why does my mouse optical LED stay on (PS/2) when PC off

I've got the MSI KT4 Ultra (Vanilla)... when I'm using my mouse thru the PS/2 connector and shutoff the PC, the LED stays on... also my router shows that the PC is still connected even tho my PC is off... the other PCs on the network don't have this problem... finally my keyboard NumLock light is on when PC off, which forced me to connect my old keyboard with no light indicators...
so what I think the problem is, is the wake-on features... all have been disabled in the Bios but is there another setting in the Bios that can stop this small amount of electricity being used on these devices... I'm afraid my LEDs will eventually wear out...
I could plug my input devices to USB, but I much rather prefer using PS/2 simply cuz the mouse software I use with the mouse works perfectly under these conditions and sets me up as a normal mouse when USB (I've got 5 buttons on the mouse)...
is there another jumper onboard that can disable these features, or again a Bios setting? or does the newest Bios fix these issues (if u can call them issues)

ok I may have found a solution but I'm not sure...
Fri night I decided to switch Ethernet PCI cards... my net was slow and constantly losing connection with router during gaming sessions so I thought this may have fixed it (turned out to be a net issue)... as said previous I switched from my Aopen 325 (has WOL feature) to my old Sohoware Auto PCI (not sure but don't think WOL is on this card - don't have a manual since it came with my cable modem)...
first let WinXP load default drivers... it loaded the chip drivers as macronix... now I think I distinctly remember shutting off to do some gut working... optical LED was still on (not sure)... did my work and switched PC on and loaded on the Sohoware drivers... PC was on overnight till Sat when I shut it off at night... not paying attention to the LED, I woke up Sun morning with the LED off... very odd since I didn't think putting on proper driver would fix it... woke up today with the same thing... I just shutdown to make sure it wasn't luck and again LED was off...
originally my Aopen used the Realtek drivers as that is what XP detected... I've used the Aopen drivers with no luck... now it seems as tho it's fixed by simply using an Ethernet with no WOL feature... still I'm not sure if the Sohoware card does or does not support WOL...
so I'm really out of hardware to test out... if anyone else can further put time into checking this and confirm if this is a WOL Ethernet + MSI KT4 (I've also heard other mobos can have same effect) problem...
if things change I will post it here again but so far so good...

sohoware has no mention of WOL feature for my card on their site... yet Aopen has confirmed that their card has WOL feature... I went to Macronix website and they don't have mention of WOL for their chip so I guess Sohoware card dont' support it either... again not sure if LED was off when I shutoff before gutting my PC...

Why does my home screen light stay on all the time.

My homescreen stays on all the time. The only way to turn it off os to puch the top button. It even stays on while its charging. Its draining my battery! HELP

Check Settings>General>Auto-Lock and see what the time setting is.

Why does the process Report Crash stay active and take up over 100% of the CPU?

In addition to window-server taking an inordinate amount of CPU, I am seeing that the process "Report Crash" is sucking up 102% of the CPU and occasionally goes down to 90%. ***? What IS Apple doing these days? Their products are getting worse and worse!

Select that process and kill it in Activity Monitor, see if it comes back.

Why does my lock screen never shut off?

When I click the lock button, my lock screen will stay on forever unless I click the lock button again. Also, if I get a text and I don't know about it, my lock screen will stay on and drain my battery until I notice I got the text. Once I didn't notice for 2 hours, so my battery was very low since my lock screen stayed on the entire time. I'm not sure what the problem is because I've set auto lock on to one minute, but auto lock has nothing to do with the lock screen. Help?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

Why does the charge indicator never go away in iOS 7???

I think it is a HORRIBLE design in iOS 7! The charging icon NEVER goes out, even if your phone is completely charged!

I guess it's now a "connected to power" indicator instead of a "charging" indicator. I just look at the percent and how full the battery icon looks.

Why does the white menu bar stay when in full screen?

Shortly after up grading to 3.4.1 this stated to happen:
1. I open App, not in full screen
2. press the "f" key, it's takes me to full screen mode but the white Aperture menu bar remains at the top, hideing adjustments.
3. I press the "f" key to get out of full screen & I loose both full screen & the "regular" viewer.
Not sure what's going on....by the way, it sometimes functions without this problem.
Any thoughts out there?

Chrome may somehow be set to run in full-screen mode. I don't use Chrome so can't check its settings options, but try hitting ESC when Chrome is doing this and see if you get the menubar and Dock to reappear.

Why does update plugin page never come back from checking my status? It just spins.

Using Firefox 22 on Acer Aspire on a dial-up internet connection. Computer alerted me that it could not view e-card and needed to update a plug-in/add-on and went to the Mozilla plugin check and updates page. It just spins, forever, without reporting back the status of my plugins. Tried clearing cache but made no difference.

What usually happens is that the page loads with the plugin list(s) blank, and as information is retrieved it slots them under up-to-date, out-of-date, and don't-know.
I don't know whether you ran into a temporary glitch, or whether the specific missing or outdated plugin was an issue.
Does it work any better to just load the page directly from a link?<br>https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/
If it's still not working for you, could you try the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by ''extensions'' (and some custom settings). You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
