Why does my video look a wee bit fuzzy?

Hello! I just edited up some highlight clips of the Paramus vs Hackensack (for you NJ people!) football game from last night in Premiere Elements 4. It looks great on my computer (filmed with a Canon GL2), but when I put it online, it was fuzzier than I had anticipated:
http://www.rivals.com/uploads/1123/692780.wmv
Here is how I saved it:
1) I created the clips in Adobe Premier Elements.
2) I used the "share" feature.
3) From there I put it on the "Windows Media" option, as the Flash option has never worked for me.
4) I saves it.
Any ideas?

Well, do note that a WMV file is only about 1/4 the resolution of your original video, so there's going to be a lot less clarity. Also, WMV files, because they're made for streaming online, are compressed -- which means that scenes of lots of action (such as a football game) are more challenging to produce than scenes of static images.
But, having not seen the original footage, I think your video looks pretty good for online video!

  • Why does the Video looks Pixelated after Burning DVD

In IDVD when I preview the video it looks great, when I burn the DVD it comes out very very pixelated. I've changed the preferences from Best Performance to Best Quality, and the project properties as well I've done the same. Does anyone know why this is happening?
I'm using 16:4 aspect ratio Video Size is 1280x720
    Help

How are you viewing the DVD you created - on a computer or on a TV?
In IDVD when I preview the video it looks great
The preview uses your original content on your hard drive and is simply designed to allow you to see if the 'flow' (sequences, menus, etc) are what you wanted.
In addition, although iDVD 'supports' HD, it only supports it in the context of current specifications - not the new HD DV world that has two competing HD DVD formats.
This means your 1280x720 content gets downsized and compressed to fit on a 720x480 DVD. The video must be 'expanded' to play on a HD set.
BTW, your aspect ratio is 16:9 and NOT 16:4. 16:4 would REALLY be widescreen! I haven't seen THAT spec yet.

  • Why does my 24fps look bad on my TV?

I just got the Panasonic AG-HMC150. I have shot some footage at both 1080p24 and 720p24. I transcode the files to Pro Res in FCP and they look pretty good, I realize the panning isn't as smooth as 60i. I drag one of the files into the FCP timeline and let it automatically "optimize my settings" for the sequence. I have verified that it is 23.98fps and field dominance is none. I have tried selecting "share" and going straight to AVCHD from FCP, and also taking the original MTS file, and Apple Pro Res and dropping into Toast and trying that way. The footage just looks choppy, jiddery and unsmooth. I have seen enough movies in my life to know that when they pan, or have cars drive by, that movies 24fps looks a million times better. My Sony HDTV even accepts and displays 24fps, and when I press info on the TV remote when watching one of these AVCHD discs it in fact says 1080 (or 720) 24p. It just looks bad. Even taking the HDMI output from the camera and hooking up to the TV and playing from the camera looks lousy.
What am I doing wrong? I know a ton of post work goes into Hollywood movies, but why does their 24fps look nice and smooth and mine looks horrible? Do I need to render with pulldown in FCP or something. I can't figure it out. Any advice, suggestions?

I transcode through FCP to apple pro res, the files shows up as 1920x1080 24fps. Field dominance is none. I edit the video and then export as quicktime movie using current settings. The Pro Res file says 23.98 when played in quicktime so I know that's good. I simply then drop the file into Toast (10.0.4) and burn blu-ray disc, selecting DVD as the media. I noticed too I need to change the field dominance under the encoding tab in Toast to progressive, as automatic doesn't work. It only burns the top half of the image. Regardless, when I make these discs and play them on PS3, my TV's info says 1080/24p. Maybe my eyes aren't use to seeing 24fps. Does it sound like I am doing anything wrong in my workflow/encoding process.
Again, good tip on the shutter speed Jerry.

could be the wifi speed as in 56Mbit vs. newer 300Mbit version

  • Why does my video keep stopping at all stages as i'm watching a video

why does my video keeping stopping at all times

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

  • Why does some video need to be rendered in FCE 4 before I can work on it?

I've been trying to get a handle on FCE 4 because it's very different than iMovie '08. I have a bunch of content in iMovie that I'd like to mess with in FCE 4, so I exported from iMovie as FCE XML and imported in FCE. There is some video that I re-encoded to Quicktime from ASF and it seems to need to be rendered before it will show up in the Canvas in FCE 4. FCE shows this content as DV/DVCPRO - NTSC under "Compressor" in the browser. Other stuff that was taken off my Sony HDR-SR7 is available in FCE 4 without any problems. This shows up as Apple Intermediate Coded in the browser.
What's the deal with rendering anyway? Why does FCE need to "render" video to add things like effects when iMovie can add effects, etc at will with no "rendering" required?

FCE can do certain effects on the fly without rendering. Some more elaborate transitions, like 3D wipes, require too much processor time to do them in real time. My understanding is that Macs with greater on-board processing power do more of these effects in real time, while slower machines must render.
iMovie can do these effects on the fly because it's working with far less information. Think of iMovie works in the DV format while FCE works in the DV/DVCPRO-NTSC format. It's too subtle a name difference but the reality is quite different. It's like editing still pictures in compressed, lossy JPEG format vs. uncompressed TIFF format. Think about how long it takes your computer to open a photo of say, 8x10" 300 dpi in TIFF vs. that same file in JPEG. Well, that's what FCE has to do. It's working in the video equivalent of TIFF -- 30 frames per second. So there's a greater demand on your processor by a factor of 10. You can see this in action in Quicktime. Save a raw video import 720x480 in .dv and then in DV/DVCPRO-NTSC format and then play it back. The .dv will probably play smoothly while the DV/DVCPRO-NTSC (.mov) will hang up on play-back. It's just too much for your process to display all of those full resolution images so rapidly. And if you look at the two images side-by-side (particularly titles) you'll see how sharp and clear the .mov file is compared to the compressed .dv file.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why does my type look bitmapped (jaggies)

Why does my title type look bitmapped (jaggies)? It's fine in iMovie but looks crappy once I burn the DVD. The max. resolution is 720 x 540.

    Hi
There are at least two levels on this Q:
    • iMovie'08 to 11 can not deliver Interlaced SD-Video over to iDVD but discard every second line resulting in a quality loss. I use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut
    • The way one goes from iM'08 to 11 to iDVD matters to a GREAT degree. I never use in any version of iMovie "Share to iDVD" as this set's off iMovie rendering function - and it's bad. I do.
Share to Media Browser - and as Large - NOT HD or other resolution as this too degrades the out-come.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Why does xf86-video-intel conflicts xf86-video-i810?

    Hello,
I have a question. Why conflicts xf86-video-intel the xf86-video-i810 driver? Yes I know that -intel is the follow-up, but are there also another (technical) reasons? The problem is that -intel doesn't work very good for me, but sometimes I need it to get a external monitor working. If both are installed it would be no problem to switch it in the xorg.conf, but installing around everytime is a bit annoying.
I just wanted to ask why this is so and if this could be changed
    Thanks
