Why does "\n" become a solid black rectangle
The problem happens when i put a string named "myString" into a file, which is produced by my program as a text file. "myString", which holds something like this "abcd" + "\n" + "efg". But after the program ran and i opened the produced file, the format of the content looks like this: "abcd solid_black_rectangle efg" is still in one line, and "\n" is displayed as a solid black rectangle.
i havent met this sort of problem before and have no idea how can i fix it up. So, could anyone give me some tips? thanx in advance.
I presume you are working on a windows machine. The command, in this os, for a new line is "\r\n". If you only use "\n" windows will show this character as a box (The "\n" is a newline on a Unix platform).

why does my photoshop keep giving black and white lines when I use my lasso tool? It has never done this before last night. It filles the Whole lasso seleted box with (what it almost looks like) black and white caution lines. then when I go to zoom out, my zoom option starts to mess up where you cant click and move your mouse to zoom in/out with ease but where you have to click to zoom out (many times).
Can ANYONE help me?I am using CS5, WIndows 7, I am not sure how to tell if my drivers are up to, and I am more than happy to screen shot it.

why does my imac get a black screen when turning on, and logging in is very slow.
I would first reset the SMC:
Shut down and unplug the Mac.
Keep the Mac unplugged for at least fifteen seconds.
Plug the Mac back in and do not turn it back on for at least five seconds.
Press the power button to turn the Mac back on.
Then I would reset the PRAM by rebooting the iMac while simultaneously holding the Command-Option-P-R keys until the machine restarts a second time.
Let us know if these procedures don't solve the problems.

When drawing with polygon tool, a solid black rectangle appears??
When I use the polygon tool to draw, a mysterious black rectangle appears underneath, and grows with my cursor movement, obscurring whatever is underneath. The black shape has nothing to do with the shape I'm creating. I am tracing boundary locations on a map, for example, and the black shape blocks out the lines I'm trying to trace, if my opacity is set at 100%. It mimics the opacity I'm using to draw. I never saw this in AA7. Why would anyone want this function, and is there a way to turn it off?

Thanks for your reply. I am exporting edited versions - export seems to work OK when exporting originals. But all my images are edited a bit, even if just simple cropping etc.
I tried adjusting the color sync profile as you suggested but this didn't help. I also adjusted the gamma and watermark and again, no change.
It seems like I have some kind of bug or something within Aperture, because it is doing all kind of strange things, like now eny time I edit a photo at all it appears solid black in my "browse" view (but OK when I double click it). Similarly, when I duplicate a photo it does random funky stuff to the photo in browse view (from being solid black, to solid red, to appeairng to have some random color filter, to appearing like static from static TV). These issues are all secondary though from the main issue of not being able to export images, since I have a friends wedding photos I am trying to get out to them!
Any other ideas of what might be causing this?

Why does my Ipad 2 keep going black ahd back to the apple logo. It eventually goes to the home screen and allows me to try something else but after about 30 seconds it happens again. I have already rebooted several times?
Make Sure iOS is updated to the latest version
Reboot the device by pressing and holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons (power) at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings -

View Solution.It is possible that the toner cartridge still has some packaging on it or that it isn't fully secured in place. I would try completely removing the toner cartridge from the printer and taking a look at the steps in the document found here. The document has steps to troubleshoot when an 'Install Black Cartridge' error is present on the display.

Why does interlaced video have vertical black bars?
Despite looking all over the internet and asking video editors I know, I've never yet found a satisfactory answer to this question:
When I bring DV PAL footage into my Mac, why are there always very thin black vertical bars on each side? And why is the image being squeezed slightly?
I think it may have something to do with interlacing.
If you look at my screenshot here.
You can see that the top image (QuickTime 7 Player) exhibits the issue I'm talking about (the prescene of combing on the man shows this is interlaced).
But the black bars have disappeared in the bottom image (QuickTIme Player X) - and you can see that it looks slightly horizontally stretched by comparison. I'm guessing this is something to do with the fact that QuickTime Player X DE-interlaces video.
The question remains though... what is it about interlacing that introduces black bars and an incorrect aspect ratio??If you are ripping "standard" format content (4x3 ratio) then it will just appear like that on a widescreen TV. You shouldn't have that problem if you're ripping widescreen content (16x9 ratio).

Why does printer only use lg black pigment cartridge, becoming very expensive!!!
We have the Canon PIXIMA MG5320 ink jet printer. Our printer is using the large pigment cartridge (PGBK 225) for normal printing instead of the small one (BK 226) is this correct? We have never had to replace the small cartridge (BK226) and have had to replace the large pigment cartridge (PGBK225) at least every two (2) weeks, this is becoming quite expensive. Please advise us of how to use the small cartridge for normal printing instead of the pigment cartridge. We thought the pigment cartridge was for printing pictures!

The large 225BK black tank is a pigment based tank and is primarily used for standard black text printing or output.
The smaller black ink tank is dye based like the color inks, and is used for photo and graphics output.
You can adjust the quality setting to 'fast' in order to reduce the amount of ink that is used. This will help conserve the ink used from the large black tank with your normal print jobs.

Why does my 23 ACD go black when its USB-hub cord is connected to computer
When I connect the USB - hub cord of my 23 ACD to the back USB port of my G5 quad, the display instantly goes black (shuts of) and back on and to normal operation again, when USB is disconnected. Why is that ? When I start up the computer with the displays USB cord connected and display powered, it turns off when computer starts. Does anyone know
any reason for this or, better still, a fix to this problem ?
G5 quad Mac OS X (10.4.10) 23 ACDI have this exact same problem. It is only a recent occurrence and my screen is just about 1 year old. When the USB cord from the ACD is plugged into the back of my Mini, the screen goes black. When the USB cord is removed, the screen powers on as normal. I do get the device removal warning when I remove the USB cord, but other than that, nothing. I've seen in a couple of other posts that this isn't an unusual problem and maybe it's not worth getting it fixed. Is this the consensus? I'm planning to get a USB hub anyway.

After Effects: Why does my background revert to black when I export?
For a recent project, I chose a deep red background, but when I exported it, it was black!

The difference is that AME renders After Effects comps via the Dynamic Link protocol, which always assumes that an alpha channel is present (background is transparent) when it renders the After Effects comp. (This does not necessarily reflect whether or not the exported file has an alpha channel. You choose that in the export settings.)

1) Best practice in After Effects is to use a colored solid layer if you want a colored background; it provides more control when compositing layers.
2) Please file a feature request if you'd like to see AME behave differently. -

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve color not printing on your Deskjet 3522. If this does not resolve the issues please provide some further details - what is the operating system on your computer? Does the printer make color copies properly?

My family has a late 2010 27" Imac. A few months ago, we noticed that the left side of the screen was somewhat darker than the right. As time went on, it continued to get worse and worse. When you turn the computer off for an hour or so, it helps the display out somewhat, but it eventually goes back to being darker on the left. About two months ago, the display started to go completely black. When the screen is black, everything still runs. My itunes library will still play, everything is functioning even though the screen is out. It has started to become more frequent. It is extremely annoying, almost unbearable. Since the one year warranty went out in November, what are we supposed to do about this?
Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. It's a known issue with 27" iMacs and you might be eligible for replacement. I had mine replaced shortly after buying it. BTW, AppleCare's extended warranty is the cheapest insurance policy one can have for desktop machines. Too bad you missed the deadline.

Why does Firefox 35 keep going black?
For some odd reason, Firefox 35 will suddenly display a black screen. I tend to open two browsers and within those browsers open up two or three tabs. I often minimize one browser to use another and then minimize the current browser to maximize the previously minimized one so that I can use it. This has worked fine with other versions but for version 35 it causes problems. Black screens display almost daily and it's becoming a big hassle. I've had to use IE much more than I like (IE has a lot of problems with viruses and trojans) but the problems with Firefox leave me little choice.
What is causing this problem? I also get messages saying that I'm using a lot of memory on Firefox - even after I've only been using th browser for a few short minutes. I do have a lot of websites bookmarked but these have been accumulating through various versions of Firefox so I don't know if that's the problem.
What can be done to fix this problem?hello, maybe that's an issue with hardware acceleration - please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating your graphics driver]], or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > general'' (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

Why does Essbase become corrupted?
I see alot of advice on how to restore Essbase but very little information on why a database would become corrupted in the first place.
I have a database in 9.3.1 and I have a calc script that is run every evening that clears and copies data in the database. On Saturday night while this calc was running, the database suddenly became corrupted and would no longer start until a restored copy was put in place. This was the error:
A read from file [e:\Hyperion\AnalyticServices\APP\APPLICATION\DATABASE\ess00001.ind], with handle [5] from offset [21921792] for [8192] bytes, failed with error [0] and O/S return code [38] after [0] bytes.

The calc hasn't changed in a few months and the outline had not changed as well.
I would like to avoid having to do restores and would really appreciate any insight into why the database would be corrupted so I can try to avoid any future issues.I've had databases go corrupt when:
1) Some other process tries to, or succeeds in gabbing rwrite access to files Essbase is trying to write to (think disk backup software).
2) The Essbase service is stopped while retrieves or calcs (and I suppose loads as well although I've never observed that) are occurring.
3) Weirdo hardware issues -- I've had RAID arrays die on me (and others) because of faulty hardware but this was a once in a career event.
4) Essbase/the OS runs out of disk space.
That's pretty much it for modern versions of Essbase. Older versions would go corrupt if you looked sideways at them but you're on 9.3.1, so that should not be an issue.
