Why does Netflix freeze my new Macbook Pro?

About a week after getting my new macbook pro I was watching Netflix and the episode froze in one spot and I kept hearing a faultering sound. I couldn't open the Task Manager equivalent and couldn't escape so I had to force shut off my computer. Now once or twice a day while watching Netflix it does this and I have no idea how to fix it. I've tried reinstalling Silverlight but nothing works. HELP!

  • Why is it that the new macbook pro processor upgrade option only offers up to 2.8 Ghz with Intel Dual Core i7, when back in Sep 12 I bought a 2.9 Ghz Intel Dual Core i7 Macbook, is the new one tuned to go much faster anyway?

Why is it that the new Macbook Pro processor upgrade option only offers up to 2.8 Ghz boosting to 3.3 Ghz with Intel Dual Core i7, when back in Sep 12 I bought a 2.9 Ghz boosting to 3.6 Ghz Intel Dual Core i7 Macbook, is the new one tuned somehow to go much faster anyway, or will the new one be slower in fact?  Or does the solid state drive compensate for the lack of increased processor capacity?

The CPU's come from different Intel 'families'.  The older ones are 'Ivy Bridge' and the newer ones are 'Haswell'.  Numbers alone will not determine the efficiency of  CPU.
    Ciao.

  • IPhone5 rejects does not support my new MacBook Pro

My new MacBook Pro on 10.8.4 established bluetooth contact with my iPhone5, but the phone said it does not support my MacBook Pro. Why?

    Dear snozdop
After 38 years with computers and programming I suddenly realize that my thoughts are not functioning in the rational way they used to behave. Things you have done as a regular habit for many years could suddenly be forgotten…
Thank you for advising me and putting me back on the track that I should have been on from the beginning this rainy early morning way up north of the arctic circle.
It also remindes me of a rule I made myself many years ago when programming: Some times it is wiser to put away the computer for a while and then in time the answers to problems will come.
Thank you again for spending time advising me of the obvious solution.

  • Why I am buying a new MacBook Pro now, but, first, any major issues?

With the delay of Ivy Bridge, and with my personal view that the next generation of MacBook Pro notebooks will be dropping FireWire 800 to service a better design, I have decided to purchase a new MacBook Pro now.
I just cannot imagine the new notebooks having a FireWire or Ethernet port, as they add too much thickness.
While I keep MacBook Pros for up to 4-years, I think this new purchase will have to be a transition computer, as the next model will probably be too irresitable. Having the option of then moving my data via Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt (Tarket Disk Mode) is very appealing too.
So, any issues with the current line?
Specifically, has anyone had a screen flicker issue or anything else major?
Would anyone dare say Thunderbolt is unreliable?
I really appreciate any thoughts on this - Thank you!

What you think Apple is infallible? They aren't. Just look at this and all the other Mac forums on the net.
I am so sorry, but you are dead wrong.
First, people get their problems resolved here quickly. A majority of the issues here are "Newbie" issues.
I have been a Mac user since 2007, and I have been on these forums since that time too. I have never once seen a horror story like the ones found on the Dell, Lenovo, and HP support forums that pop up on an hourly basis.
Read those forums, and you will get tears in your eyes.
Anytime I have called Apple or visited an Apple Store, they have treated me like a God.
Apple hardware is bullet proof made of the best materials on the planet. A MacBook Pro is far stronger and more durable than any ThinkPad, Dell Precision, or HP Elitebook.
Just open up a MacBook Pro to look at the insides as compared to the disaster zones of the aforementioned PCs.
Oh.... and no bloody stickers on MY notebook.
    Everything just works.
Little things come up, but they are always solved.
Now, add programs like Joint Venture, and heaven is a place on earth.
No PC company comes close to treating their customers the way Apple has treated me since 07.
Apple has earned my business for life.
Right now, I can schedule a call with Apple - What PC company does that?
Apple = Unequaled products, service, and support. No PC company can come close to any of those three traits.
    PS
And none of those PC forums have people like Kappy, Eww, Bee, Niel, iVmichael, sig, Etresoft, (yourself), and all the other fine members of this community that make it such a pleasure...

  • How often does Apple release a new MacBook Pro?

I am planning on buying a MacBook Pro (unsure of the specific model right now) and I am wondering when Apple will release a new model so I can either buy the latest or buy an older one for a cheaper price. It's like getting a new phone- you buy an iPhone 5 with a 2-yr contract then the iPhone 5s and 5c come out. When I get an estimate as to when a new Macbook Pro will come out, I'll determine if I'll wait or not. This is a big decision, so I need the most accurate answer. Thanks for any help

Sorry, no one here can provide an answer.
Discussion about possible future Apple products is not allowed as per the

    Wait for news from Apple.
    Best.

  • Video Freezing on New Macbook Pro

I bought a 15" macbook pro last week, and videos are freezing regularly. Sometimes the audio continues and the video catches up after 30 seconds, sometimes not. These are online or itunes or homemade videos that my 4-year old macbook used to handle just fine. I got the larger pro because I'm away from home a lot and wanted a wider screen to watch video on. Anyone having similar problems or know ways to help alleviate this problem?

I'd be wondering whether something that you have brought across from the older machine may be giving it indigestion, mpeterd.
You might find it worth taking a look at Activity Monitor when the problem occurs to see if any process is hogging CPU time.
One known "issue" after migration from earlier Macs or OS versions can involve a new process called "fontworker" under Snow Leopard. If you have brought across old fonts from the MB then it may be that some are duplicates of Snow Leopard fonts, or corrupted, or simply too old for the new OS. Might be worth checking with Font Book for duplicated or corrupted fonts. Another possibility may be a corupted "Spotlight" index. If Activity Monitor shows a process called "mds" or "mdsworker" running overtime, then this is likely to be the cause.
There are various other possibilities here, too, though. Activity Monitor is a good place to check for such things first, before considering seeking replacement. You may well find that the problem recurs even with a new, perfectly healthy, computer when you bring things across from the old one.
    Cheers

  • Does anyone have a new MacBook Pro that makes a buzzing sound on startup?

My new (60 days) MacBook Pro makes a buzzing sound on startup- does anyone else have this issue? Thanks!

    Keep at the Genius Bar.
For one, you have a default 1 year warranty, which you do not want to let expire.
For another, that chine is a critical part of the system, that for some is an annoyance but at least it sticks around.
At some point, they have to either fix it or give you another (at least in my opinion they will eventually have to give me on that chimes).
Make a very good clone before you go back in.  CarbonCopyClone ($40 download).  You will need to clone it back onto a new system eventually, I suspect.

  • Why does the volume on my MacBook Pro change on its own?

I just got my MacBook Pro and sometimes the volume goes up or down and usually when this happens iTunes opens up and starts playing randomly. Why does this happen!?

No. Have Apple fix this little problem before it becomes a bigger one.

  • I can not use Netflix on my NEW Macbook Pro

Is anyone else frustrated with multiple attempts to watch films on Netflix. I just purchased a Macbook Pro with Retina, one of the reasons was so I could watch films through Netflix.

What exactly happens when you try to watch a film?
Every time Netflix breaks for me it is because I need to fiddle with Silverlight, which in typical Microsoft fashion, is always breaking and is slightly difficult to fix.  Try to reinstall (from MS website) the silverlight application.

  • Does iworks come with new Macbook Pro? Which version?

I purchased my Macbook Pro last week and it is already asking me to update my iWork to '09.  Can not find it on the website what came with the purchase.  Please help!  Is this right that it doesn't come with the latest version?

If it shipped with the computer and you need to ask, it's a trial version.

  • And one other thing, does anyone if a newer macbook pro will soon come out?

I am willing to spend up to $4000 or so on a MacBook Pro, but I am wondering if anyone knows if there are going to be any major improvements coming along soon, like for example the graphics...
I love everything about the current macbooks pros, but I am hoping to see better graphics than 256MB sooner or later...
If someone knows for sure that there wont be any upgrades within the next two years, then I will be satisfied and will go off and buy one right away...
    Thanks

No one here is going to be able to tell you when the next MacBook Pro refresh will take place. The graphics processor in the MacBook Pros was updated only about a month ago to one of the best notebook graphics processors available. The amount of memory alone is not an indicator of the graphics processor's performance. 256MB will be fine for most applications. Are you planning on running something that would require more memory?
Also... regarding your comment "If someone knows for sure that there wont be any upgrades within the next two years, then I will be satisfied and will go off and buy one right away..."... While none of us knows for sure when the next update will be... it's a safe bet that it will be before the next two years. No notebook manufacturer goes two years without upgrading their hardware. With the MacBook Pro being Apple's flagship notebook, it's safe to say that it will be updated before then. Apple tends to do major refreshes annually. But again... exactly when that will happen... and what the upgrade will be... only Apple will know.

  • Why does mountain lion make my macbook pro stall?

Hi Is anyone else having a problem with Mountain Lion? My Macbook Pro was very stable woth OSX 10.6. I updated recently and now the round egg timer equivalent appears regualrly, requiring me to reboot.
I thought that I had left all this behind when I moved from PC?
Any ideas for a cure anyone?
    many thanks

Launch the Activity Monitor utility, set the list at the top to "All Processes", then click on the "% CPU" heading until the top CPU users are at the top of the list.  Continue to work until things slow down, then see what's consuming CPU time.

  • Why does the sound on my MacBook pro turn up automatically?

I recently did a small update to my MacBook Pro.
Everything was fine until my volume went up automatically, and I could not turn the volume down.
The only way I can turn the volume down is if I close my computer and open it again.
I do have an Apple TV, I don't know if this has anything to do with it. The remote for the Apple TV was not touching anything when the volume automatically shot up.
How do I get this problem to stop?

    Hello bdockery
Try turning off the IR sensor if your MacBook Pro has one. Check out the steps in the article below to get that sorted out and see if it starts to happen again.

  • InDesign CS4 install (new & upgrade) still freezes on new MacBook Pro.

    Have a stupid question:
WHY HAS ADOBE NOT FIXED THIS ISSUE.....RATHER THAH CONTINUING TO ASK THE CUSTOMERS TO FIX IT?
The company's customer base is boiling over with customers who've paid for and received a NONWORKING product.  A defective product. Period.  If this were a prescription drug or a car, the govt would have ordered recalls by now.
Adobe's labrynthine, convoluted recommended "fixes"  (delete and reinstall all your Adobe products....reinstall your system software .... go stand in the rain and burn incense to the gods .... whatever) is like Ford Motor telling the customer:  "Yes, we admit that make and model has a major defect.  But, hey, at least we feel bad about it. Try taking the car apart and rebuilding it. See if that works.)
    Eeegads.
For the record:  Only SOME of the people with the Install/Setup issue (installer freezes at about 90% while checking system profiler) have inadequate hardware. Most have adequate hardware.  So spare us this "the customer is stooopid" defense.  We're not stupid. We're angry.
I've read the bulletin boards. So has Adobe.  We all know Adobe produced a seriously flawed installer; they know it, too.  They know it because zillions of us of us  HAVE SPENT HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH ADOBE STAFF, WHO  CONFIRM THAT (A) OUR HARDWARE IS MORE THAN ADEQUATE AND (B) THEY HAVEN'T A CLUE TO DO.  Other tearing the computer apart and rebuilding it, I mean.
This is one of the largest software makers in the world.  They have enough programmers and engineers working in their corporate coffee shop to fix this thing.  (1)  produce a NEW installer that is not affected by whatever it is that is affecting the current one. (Am I genius or what?)
    (2) distribute a two-part installer that first scans and fixes the obstacle -- and THEN installs the Adobe product.
    (3) Hire a third-party vendor to figure this out for Adobe.
Adobe failure/refusal to do this -- more than eight months after being made  aware of the problem -- is not one of this company's finer moments.

First. I sense you're on the verge of a full blown rant. Keep in mind that this is a user to user forum so please stay calm. Ranting at us won't help you. For that please contact Adobe directly.
While there are certainly people having issues, measuring those issues in a support forum is like going to a body shop and declaring that all cars crash into something.
Most users don't have any issue at all but there are certainly too many to call it acceptable. That said, the first thing to do is run the CS4 clean script:
