Why does opening a pdf sometimes default to gedit with no option of using evince?

When opening a pdf from a Microsoft Help Attribute Definition File source, Firefox defaults to gedit instead of evince in FF 17.0.1, Ubuntu 12.10. This is a regression as previous versions had no such issue.
My preferences are OK; set to evince for pdf and nowhere does gedit appear in preferred application for any file type.

This two points on this issue can help Ubuntu users. ''First option'', let gedit intent to open the file, then close gedit after the error notification. Then, go to "Places » Recent Documents" and you can open immediately the downloaded pdf file with your system default app. ''Second approach'': Install the add-on "User Agent Switcher", and let Firefox identify itself as «Internet Explorer», then, you can open the pdf file normally with the reader settled in Firefox preferences. This worked for me, conclusions why this is so are left for granted.

You have different versions of the shared PDF libraries on the different systems and/or different settings on PDF handling, most likely. This can affect transparency. The PDF libraries are shared between Adobe apps, so this may be dependent on anotehr program having changed something in that area...

My Firefox has started opening downloaded PDF files in a creen with no option to save or print them. How can I fix this?

I get my bills etc electronically. I then download them and save them to a file on my computer. Firefox is now opening them in a window that has only the PDF and an address bar, the "File Edit View, etc" at the top of the screen is missing and I can't figure out how to save these files.

Why does the "Computer Name" sometimes change?

                Not a big deal, just curious, why does the "computer name" sometimes change?
                 The name will be the same, but it will add a number....2,3,4...I always change it back so it doesn't have a numeric value next to it, but just wondering why it happens.

Can also occur after your computer is put to sleep and then wakes back up or after your computer is force quit and immediately restarted. Sometimes the router 'believes' the computer is still connected when it actually isn't. When that computer re-establishes a connection the router 'tells' the computer that a computer with that name already exists so it has to change its name. By default a computer running MacOS adds a number (or increments its number) when this happens.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

"Vaguely like" is the best we can hope for and a minor miracle in itself. PDF was never meant to be converted.

Why does my Ipod Nano sometimes lose volumn?

If the Nano is not in a protective case while you are working out, there may be a good chance that sweat/moisture has found its way into the inside of the iPod causing its buttons and functions to short circuit. Several users who used their Nano for workouts have run into the same exact issue.
Some have been able to correct it by giving the iPod a few days to dry out and then clipping the Nano to another location on their body and/or using a protective case with the Nano.

The utility has had less and less useful information .. it might be time to simply find a different utility.

This is very popular.. I do not know of what works well on Mac OS because i have installed 5.6 utility which of course has far more info than the later toy version. Plus using an Asus router which has excellent listing of all the clients.
Sometimes beating yourself up to make apple routers do what you want is easier solved with lateral thinking.

Hi Lisa,
I know from experience that this must be a frustrating situation for you especially if you don't want to loose the music/video content that is currently on your ipod. Unfortunately though you may have to consider re-syncing it as it thinks its currently synced with another computer.
If you bought any music that is on the ipod through itunes you can opt to right click the ipod in itunes and 'transfer purchases' if you authorise your library in the 'Store' menu in itunes. Some reasons for this happening may include some of the following:
Deleting and reinstalling your itunes on the computer.
Removing the account you had on the computer you used itunes in and making a new one. (User account, eg: Lisa).
Changing computers in the past.
A friend or family member syncing it on their computer to give you there music.
A sign of a failing iPod.
Alternatively you can opt to not sync it and keep the music that is on your ipod there but this means you will never be able to update your ipod.

I think there's supposed to be a forward slash before WEB-INF.

I customize my paper size and print size and am then viewing a photo on my screen. I print it out and it chops off about 5% of all edges of my original photo on the screen. Why does it do that? It is driving me crazy. I use an Epson Photo 2200 printer.

What print and paper sizes are you using? Are you trying to print a borderless print? Does your printer support borderless for that particular size? Are you printing to the custom stock size or to a larger stock size?
