Why does pages suggest endnote to manage citation?

Why does pages suggest endnote to manage citation? Pages is 19$ but end note is 250$! I think pages should manage citation itself like ms word.

So remind me. How much is MsWord?

  • Why does pages prompt the save dialogue every time i save?

Just like every other word editing program, I should be able to just click save or push COMMAND S to save easily without getting the Save dialogue, once I saved for the first time.
Why does Pages insist on bringing up the Save or Save As dialogue box every time I want to save a version of the document?  Once I saved for the first time, name the file, and save it to my hard drive, I should not have to deal with this anymore, unless I specifically click Save As....  I should be able to click Save or push COMMAND S and have it save in the background as with every document editing program.
Is there a way to change this?

You are obviously confused in thinking that Pages is a MsWord substitute which it is not, it is its own program.
When you export to .doc you are doing exactly that, making a copy in a different format to the one you are working in.
TextEdit can save to .doc and Save to it as can several other applications, but none of those are MsWord either.
If you want to work in MsWord, why not use MsWord itself?

  • Why does pages suddenly refuse to save a document back to our server after editing?

why does pages suddenly refuse to save a document back to our server after editing?
and can i specify a default save-as location?

The default save location is the one used to open the document.
The default save_to location is the last used one.
Both are stored in memory and written in the application's preferences file when we close it.
It's quite easy to change the defaults in the preferences file but we must do that before opening the app and if we use an other location once the app is open, we will lost the defined default location.
From my point of view, the best scheme is to use an Applescript to save.

  • Why does Skype suggest contacts to block?

Please help me understand..  PLEASE..  When a user goes to Tools>Options, selects Privacy>Blocked Contacts,  there is a list of contacts blocked.   Below that is an option to block a contact/s from a list given from skype.  I wanted to know why those in particular contacts appear there.  Why does skype suggest those particular contacts?/ What was done to make those in particular contacts be on that list?

Hi, misscrowley1, and welcome to the Community,
I never figured out what the logic is behind whose names appear on that list and whose do not.  I once thought it may have been the most recently contacted names, however that is not always the case.  I think it's random!

  • Why does Pages app have no 'labels' template?

Why does "Pages" have no 'labels' template?

That bug was introduced in Pages 5.1. This workaround:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24857600#24857600
... gets rid of the com.apple.MediaLibraryService process and also brings memory usage by Pages itself back in line. Involves removing (should archive them and restore prior to applying a software update) a number of plug-ins, may or may not affect functionality (I have not noticed anything, apart from making the computer usable again).
Current version of Numbers is also affected; without this "fix," a second com.apple.MediaLibraryServicelaunches, also consuming more than 1 GB of real memory, and Numbers itself uses multiples of the memory it should. Removing the files described also restores Numbers to normal functionality.

  • Why does pages 09 keep opening a new mail message

I'm using pages 09 now (was using 08; tried the new 5.0 but it is useless based on backward compatability)
When I click on a name in a document it immediately opens a new email message with To as the contact  I clicked on. I've tried turning off all the auto complete, etc I can find but it still happens.
    Specifically,
if I go to the footer, the next time I land on a name in the body of the document it opens up a new email.
Once I close the mail message I can continue typing, editing etc.; but the moment I go to the footer and then return to the text box it jumps to a new mail message when I click on a name.
How do I turn this off?
    George O.

More on this and a correction-
there is a part of this document outined in blue- whenever I go into this part from the footer it initiates an email to me;  it doesn't matter where I click. My earlier question said when I click on a name this happens; but actually anywhere in the outlined area.
some of the document does not have thin blue outlines; when I go there I'm ok- no new email.
so, what are the blue lines about?
and why does it send me an email when I move into the outlined area?
    thanks for any help !

  • Why does Pages file explodes in size?

When I attach a 1.1 MB Pages file to a mail: why does the file grows to 14,3 MB??? Even a normal blank pages document of 63 KB becomes 9,5 MB when attaching it to an email?!!!
    What am I missing?

There has to be graphics in there somewhere to make it that big.
Do you have Captured pages (the master sections) with graphics in them, possibly repeating, in the document?
If you like click on my blue name and email me the document and I'll look at it.

  • Why does Pages restrict me to two pages?

I have recently bought a Mac Pro and am trying to get used to Pages. If I am doing multiple page documents, I keep finding that after two pages, I seem to lose extra pages, although they are still there if I look back to previous versions. Any idea why this is happening, and what I can do to stop it, please?

Sounds like you have floating images with wrap on them and are using spaces, returns and tabs to push objects around.
Pages has a particular way of working with pages.
In Word Processing documents Pages creates or eliminates pages based on whether there is anything in the main text layer ie the area between the page margins.
If there is more text than fits on a page, a new page is created and the text flows onto that.
Conversely if you eliminate text so that there is no more text on the current page, the pages shrink back.
This includes inline objects (things pasted into the text) which act just text, in fact like big fat characters.
If you have floating images that are not part of the flow of text, they stay put on the page where you created them. If that page has been eliminated when the text was reduced, the image remains where it was on the no longer visible page.
If you create some more pages by Menu > Insert > Page Break those images or objects will be visible once more.
In your case I suggest you have a muddled set of floating objects and lots of spaces and returns just to push things in place. The combination of the text wrap from the objects and all those invisible characters can make things pop unexpectedly.
    1. Menu > View > Show Invisibles
    2. Get rid of all the spaces and returns other than just the one after each paragraph or word
    3. Menu > Insert > Page Breaks until you see all your objects again
    4. Cut and paste those where you want them in the text.
    5. Use floating objects when you get a better hang of layout

  • Why does Arch suggest /boot for $esp mount point?

    Hi all,
Something has been bugging me, and I can't figure out online why this is the case. Arch always suggests to mount the $esp on /boot, and by reading the Beginner's Guide/Installation wiki pages (and forums), it looks like the reasons are:
    - gummiboot upstream expects it there
    - pacman can only update kernels in /boot
Other distributions suggest to mount the $esp on /boot/efi, and this has the good effect, that all files of distributions are located in subfolders ($esp/EFI/opensuse/, for example), and are not littering the root $esp folder. If every distribution did what Arch does, then on a multi-distro the root folder of the $esp would have every single kernel/fallback img.
I noticed the FHS doesn't have a standard mount point/folder for the $esp, either.
Is there another reason that Arch suggests this?
    Thanks

Gummiboot's method only works if distros keep the /boot folder free of files, and use directories to cleanly categorise kernels, etc. I have yet to find a distribution that does this.
"Works" is relative here. Gummiboot doesn't do things the way you want; that's fine, because a) you don't use it; and b) you can always organize your EFI images as you see fit. Gummiboot will still accomplish its intended task: booting a working Linux kernel from an EFI image. The Gummiboot Arch wiki page states that the ESP must be mounted at /boot for it to work, but that's it. The UEFI wiki page doesn't mention mounting at boot at all---only to /boot/efi. The EFISTUB page mentions that if you don't mount to /boot, you need to mount the ESP somewhere and manually copy the images to the ESP. The GRUB wiki page doesn't make statements on where the ESP should be mounted, but does make it clear that GRUB needs to be told where the ESP is mounted during installation. The Beginner's Guide does recommend mounting the ESP to /boot, and then links to another page with more information.
Reading the Beginner's Guide without following the links may give the impression that mounting to /boot is something of a requirement, but it depends on the use case. You have four options when booting from UEFI: rEFInd, Gummiboot, GRUB and  EFISTUB. The first requires the ESP to be mount at /boot/efi, like it or not. The second requires it to be mounted at /boot, like it or not. The latter two have no strict requirements of where the ESP be mounted, but mounting anywhere other than /boot requires extra work on the part of the user. Yes, if you mount the ESP to /boot and run multiple distributions then the kernel images are still going to clutter the /boot directory, which is exactly what happens if you share a /boot partition between distributions no matter what (and as I alluded to earlier, there are cases in which this is necessary). UEFI has nothing to do with that, and it's one reason that each distribution has its own naming conventions for its kernel image (a Linux kernel built from source will always be called "bzImage" regardless of the distribution its built on). Arguably, none of that matters unless you're manually moving and deleting kernel images and get confused about which one is which---a case that almost never arises nowadays, and should never arise for the typical desktop user.

  • Why does Pages keep creating a new folder everytime I save?

There must be some easy explanation for this but there's a weird quirk in Pages '09 that I don't know how to turn off.
Every time I save a document, not only does it save, but it creates a new folder with some new files labeled buildVersionHistory.plist and index.xml and then a subfolder called Quicklook within which there's a thumbnail.jpg.
No idea why it's doing this but it's really clogging up my folders and it seems totally unnecessary. Can anybody help me turn it off?

    Hi Michael
    Welcome to the forum.
Do you have Stuffit installed and are saving to the desktop?
Because in that case it is Stuffit decompressing the Pages document's package.
Just save to your document folder.
