Why does photoshop cc 2014 crash on start?
i installed the newest version of photoshop but every time i try to open it, it crashes then closes. i've tried a few tips from the forum, but it still won't open. is there something wrong with my computer, or the program?
Have you look at your system crash reports. One thing you did not try is reading the forum usage guide

Hi Adobe
You a have a really wonderful PhotoShop CC product. It's really great, and I know new versions such as 2014 have their teething problems.
But I am getting really sick of my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit PC being crashed whenever I try to use PhotoShop CC 2014 Sharpen / Blur Reduction and also Noise Reduction.
This happens both with JPG's and PSD's.
Please sort your **** out and get some patches out to address this quickly !!
Chris TattersallChris,
It doesn't crash for everyone. A person could be forgiven for saying, in return, "Please sort out your **** system problems".
Trust me when I say many, many problems are caused by the computer system setup not being up to the needs of this cutting-edge graphics software. Photoshop is heavily dependent on the GPU, and GPU drivers are notorious for having bugs (they're primarily written to run games).
However, that being said, recent driver releases from both ATI and nVidia do actually work pretty well with Photoshop CC 2014.
What video card do you have?
What display driver version are you running?
If you're unsure how to tell these things, go into Photoshop, choose Help - System Info, copy the data, and post it here.

Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Crash on start-up when run as non Admin
Hi All
Having an issue with Photoshop when run as a non administrator on domain PC's.
The program crashes as soon as it loads up with the following in the event log :
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 15.1.0.148, time stamp: 0x53d97a8f
Faulting module name: Photoshop.exe, version: 15.1.0.148, time stamp: 0x53d97a8f
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000000000161ea23
Faulting process id: 0xdcc
Faulting application start time: 0x01cfce7cd3686a3f
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Photoshop.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Photoshop.exe
Report Id: 1376e820-3a70-11e4-8f81-3417eba365e0
I don't beleive its hardware related as the same issue occurs on multiple types of hardware in multiple suites and will run fine with an administrator.
In our setup most users on the domain are non admin as well as students so its not really a poisibility to give all users of photoshop admin rights
Any help would be greatly appreciatedWe are seeing this issue as well, except Photoshop CC 2014 is trying to write into C:\Shortcuts, which is the location we redirect our desktops and start menus too.
So far the only work around has been to use group policy to deploy the log file to the location Photoshop is trying to write to and set permission so all users can write to it.
I've opened a support case with Adobe (Case number: 185963856 ) however their initial response is pathetic...."We may not consider this a bug" and they sent me the locations below which "need" read/write access, which is not true and not helpful!

Why does Photoshop CC 2014 install as a trial, instead of actually working?
Why does trying to update Photoshop CC result in Photoshop CC 2014 being installed as a trial (instead of actually working)?
Does anybody know?
And why can't I get ACR 8.5 for either CC or CS6?Sign in, activation, or connection errors | CC, CS6, CS5.5

Why does Photoshop CS4 keep crashing?! (Mac OS)
I use Photoshop often, daily even. I upgraded to CS4 at the beginning of this year and have a CONSTANT and very IRRITATING problem. It keeps crashing, for no apparent reason. It will crash during all kinds of "tasks". Saving, opening an image from RAW, using the liquify tool, using the clone tool, running an action and any number of others tasks cause a crash in Photoshop CS4.
I work relatively fast, as I use Photoshop on a daily basis. This is how it will happen...
I'll be working on an image and I "command S" to save. There will be a slight delay of about 2-4 seconds and then Photoshop will crash and I will get a pop-up screen to submit a crash report. I have submitted literally hundreds, if not thousands of these. Then, Photoshop sits idle for a few minutes as if it is locked up, unable to "Relaunch". So, I then usually have to "Force Quit" Photoshop, yet, it will not immediatly quit. It takes another couple of minutes to do so before I am able to begin working again. This process happens, on average, a couple of times per hour, if not more.
Luckily, I have "trained" myself to save after almost ever thing I do. But, I inevitable loose something as it happens just after a "task" or during a "save". (It happens during a save frequently.) Plus, I'm loosing valuable time waiting on it to Relaunch, and figuring out where I'm at on the image all over again.
Needless to say, I'm beyond frustrated, to say the least.
There is something else that doesn't make sense. My business partner, who also has a new IMac (not the VERY newest model that just came out but the one just prior to that...It was purchased in December 08 as well) and also runs CS4 does not have this crashing problem! At all! Not once.
Here's the difference in our systems...He purchased the 24" model, while I purchased the 20". And, this is where I actually think the problem may lie...I am running dual monitors, while he does not.
I've tried to trouble-shoot this problem, since he does not have the problem, while I do. I did "About this Mac" on both our machines to see if there were any obvious differences, besides running dual monitors. What I found under HARDWARD were only two minor differences. His processor speed is 2.8 while mine is 2.66 GHz. and the SMC Version of his machine is 1.3f1, while mine is 1.29f1. There were no differences in the GRAPHICS/DISPLAYS section either, beyond my having a second display.
Both his and my graphics/displays are as follows:
ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro:
Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro
Type: Display
Bus: PCIe
PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
Device ID: 0x9583
Revision ID: 0x0000
ROM Revision: 113-B2250L-259
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.259
Displays:
iMac:
Resolution: 1280 x 800
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Hardware Accelerated
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Supported
Built-In: Yes
Below is the information regarding my second display.
LaCie 324:
Resolution: 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Hardware Accelerated
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Supported
Rotation: Supported
Television: Yes
As you can see, my second display is a Lacie 324. It is rather new, I purchased it in November or December 08 as well as my IMac. I have the Lacie set as my main display.
When I have Googled this Photoshop CS4 crash problem, I have come across some mention of the GPU Settings and Enable OpenGL Drawing. I have to admit, I really don't understand this. Should OpenGL Drawing be on or off??? I turned OpenGL Drawing off some time ago because I had a problem with calibrating my Lacie monitor. My monitor was showing images skewed toward red, while my prints were coming out with less red. I Googled this problem (at the time I didn't think this was related to the crashing issue) and someone said they were having trouble calibrating their monitor as well and managed to "fix" that by turning "Enable OpenGL Drawing" off. I did that and it did indeed fix the problem with getting my Lacie monitor calibrated. FYI, my business partner also turned off the Enable OpenGL Drawing feature and...again...he has NOT had the problem with Photoshop CS4 crashing. So, since he is not having the problem and I am, I would assume the "Enable OpenGL Drawing" issue that is mentioned on this site, is not the crashing problem, though I could be wrong.
So, I go back to having a second monitor as being the most-likely candidate for causing the Photoshop crashes. I am wondering if the Lacie display is "drawing" the graphics at the speed that differs, or is incompatable, with Photoshop CS4??? This is just a guess from someone who is not all that technically savy. But, again, I'm not sure. I have also looked on the Lacie website for any updates for the Lacie 324. There are none, as far as I can tell.
I am curious if others with and without dual monitors are having these crashes. If so, have you found any resolution? I'm desperate for help so if anyone can shed any light on this issue, it would be most appreciated.
Below, I will put some specs about my machine, in case that is helpful.
Hardware Overview:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac8,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: IM81.00C1.B00
SMC Version: 1.29f1
I have the 11.0.1 version of Photoshop CS4.
PLEASE help if you can. Thanks so much!

Photoshop CC 2014 crashes at start
I am a subscriber of the Creative Suite with a big problem.
Photshop and Bridge do suddenly not want to open. When I try to open Bridge nothing happens except for a “bling” from the computer indicating something is wrong.
When I try to start PS the initial splash screen shows for a couple of seconds and then I get this message: Adobe Photoshop CC 2014. Could not initialize Photoshop because of a problem using the Adobe Color Engine.
I have tried to uninstall an then reinstall Photoshop. Today I upgraded Photoshop and Bridge without problems. I deleted the settings file (ctrl+alt+shift at start).
I am running CC on Windows 8.1.
What can I do? Please help, I am getting a little desperate! Thanks for the reply, John, but it didn't help.
I've been over all of the help, I've done HOURS worth of searching and trying every solution which seemed to help others. This application is just loaded with issues from what I can see not only in searches, but also from my own experiences. -
Why does Photoshop CC keep crashing when switching to 3D workspace?
When attempting to add 3D extrusion from layer I keep getting an error that reads "Photoshop CC 2014 has stopped working, Windows will notify you when there is a solution to the problem", and then the program closes. Any ideas why this keeps happening?
Excellent Question. Just a few days ago, I was working fine in 3D, then I updated. I can't remember whether I was using Photoshop CC before the update or if I was using Photoshop CC 2014 and it just had an available update . . . either way, I've tried disabling extensions, updating Windows 8.1, updating my graphics driver, uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop CC 2014 (both without and with the new update) . . . . NOTHING worked. I've now lost about 9 hours of work time just trying to get the silly 3D to work again.
I'm currently uninstalling Photoshop CC 2014 and installing Photoshop CC. If that doesn't work, I'll be going back further to Photoshop CS6. -
Why does photoshop cc 2014 stop working when extracting 3D
I recently acquired photoshop cc 2014 and would like to use 3D. When I try to extrude a file, my photoshop stops working. I have an AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics card.
Hello Mylenium,
Thank you for the reply, how would I go about providing detailed system info? Is there an automated method that displays the necessary information? Also, it might be worth noting that my older version of Photoshop (CC x64bit (NOT 2014)) works completely fine. -
Why does Photoshop CC 64bit crash direct after start?
I have Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC installed. Photoshop 64bit crash direct after start without any msg. Photshop 32bit version and Lightroom 64bit works fine. How can I get PS 64bit version working?
We can't know. you have not provided any system information or otehr details like the crash logs.

Why does Photoshop CC keep crashing when I switch between pictures?
I just switched to Photoshop CC from CS4 and am having frequent troubles with it crashing. The problem seems to occur when I have 10-15 different pictures open and am combining them into a collage. When I switch back and forth between the windows, CC locks up and shuts down.

Why does Photoshop 6 keep crashing
Every time I use the type tool, the crop tool and HDR merge the app crashes, i'm currently using the trial version and this is not encouraging me to buy the upgrade from CS4 which i'm very happy with and never have these sort of problems.
Update your graphics driver and configure it properly and/or turn off OpenGL in the prefs. also font issues often point to crappy fonts on the system (freeware fonts that have technical issues etc.)

Photoshop CC 2014 crashes right after start in Win7 Ultimate. Installed a new graphics card MSI GeForce GT730 and did an immediate driver update. Also completely updated Windows. Bridge and Lightroom 5.5 work fine. After several attempts to get PS up and running, also after checking possible solutions on the web and in this community I was still left with a crashing application.
Then tried a cracked amtlib.dll in the Photoshop directory and PS worked fine! But not able to check in to CC. Then replaced the cracked amtlib.dll with the original and PS again crashed a few seconds after launch. Oh, and yes, I did check out of Creative Cloud and checked in again but nothing worked so far. After browsing through several sites I finally stumbled upon the message below, posted a couple of months ago in this forum.
This sequence finally was the solution to my problem with Ps crashing after launch.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!
After dozens of fruitless attemps to solve the problem and many, many hours of searching the web, I stumbled upon a thread in the PS community that helped me fix the problem and made my day (weekend).
The thread was originally posted by MrNameloc here and ALL CREDITS got to him. A public "Thank You" to MrNameloc is also in its right place.
The solution is as follows:
Un-install Photoshop CC.
Un-install Adobe CC.
Go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe and find SLCache and delete it.
Go to: C:\ProgramData\Adobe and find SLStore and delete it.
Restart.
Install Adobe CC.
Install Photoshop.
Restart.
@Adobe, you might wanna write this one behind your ear just in case it shows up again in the forums... 'cose it will.
