Why does Photoshop Elements 11 open a file in a lower resolution than I saved it in?

Why does Photoshop Elements 11 open files in a lower resolution than I saved them?

The only meaningful figures for 'resolution' with a digital image are the pixel dimensions. They are not changed by saving.
The ppi (pixel per inch) information is not a property of the image, just like the dimensions of your prints : it's your choice when you want do display or print your images. The detail level of your image is dependent on the pixel size.

Yes, if you have PSE 11 (not the mac app store version). You will need to go to Help>Updates in the editor to update ACR to 7.3.

  • Why does photoshop elements 10 back up files in xml format

I am trying to backup my catalog including tags to my external hard drive. When I do the files are all in XML format. When I attempt to open using Photoshop
i get "wrong type of file" or they are just a lot of code. What is going on. Where are the pictures?

I downloaded them into the same folder, and once that was done, I did as you said and opened PhotoshopElements_10_LS15.exe. It asked for my serial number and everything, seemed as though it was installing, and asked to restart in order to complete the process. I restarted the computer, and...I don't see Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 anywhere. There is a folder on my desktop that goes by the name of Photoshop Elements 10, but it only contains data files and things that I can't use. It's not the actual software....
    What should I do?

  • Why does Photoshop Elements 6 not work with Apple OSX version 10.9?

I have recently updated my MacBook Pro and my Mac desk top to OSx version 10.9 and now Photoshop elements 6 does not respond.  It opens and then stays frozen.  Nothing responds.  Does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this issue?

    Specifically, this:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5860819
But it is also very important to delete any existing preferences after a major OS X upgrade. For PSE 6 that would be:
    com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 paths
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 settings
They're in your username>library>preferences. Here's how to find it in 10.9:

  • Why does Photoshop elements 9 not start once I downloaded Wacom drivers?

I use Photoshop Elements 9, it is fully updated.
I recently switched from a bamboo tablet to an intuos. Previously, my bamboo worked perfectly. Elements could detect pen pressure and worked fine. Now, elements (the editor, not the organizer) has stopped booting.
However, I recently got an intuos and once I downloaded the drivers, Photoshop would stop booting. For example:
I try to open up a photoshop file, photoshop would stop responding.
I open up the welcome screen and click on edit, the edit button shows that loading sign for awhile before returning back to the normal edit button. After that, nothing happens and the editor doesn't open.
I try to open the editor directly, it stops responding.
There were however less than ideal ways I could force elements to boot. I could open up Wacom Tablet Properties, and delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements preference over there. When I do that, photoshop boots instantly even if it was in the middle of not responding. Even when I try to boot with the welcome screen and the edit button just fades, as soon as I delete the preference, elements boots. Even if I was waiting for fifteen or twenty minutes before deleting the preference, elements would boot. Another way I can get photoshop to open is using the wacom tablet preference file utility to delete the preference.
However, when this happens, pen pressure doesn't work and the cursor is really laggy. The disc keeps appearing over the cursor.
    Other stuff I've tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. I've tried using the disc the tablet came with. I've also tried the installing the driver from the website.
I'm not sure about resetting the photoshop elements preferences. I've tried clicking ctrl+shift+alt and clicking to open photoshop but it just opens up the properties window. (But isn't what I did with wacom tablet preference utilities achieving the same thing?)
I greatly appreciate any advice you could give me! Like if this is even the proper place to ask?

  • Why does Photoshop Elements close when I try to get into Organizer?

I have no problem getting into my Photoshop Elements 8, have no problems going into Editing and editing photos, but when I try to get into the Organizer, Photoshop Elements closes, totally.  This has happened in the past when I've been either working in Organizer or Editing, closed Photoshop, and then opened it shortly thereafter.  However, if I closed it and waited several minutes, I'd have no problem getting into Organizer.  Not this time.  Was in it earlier today, couldn't get into Organizer when I tried later, waited a long time several times, with no luck.
One correction:  If I open Elements and try to get into Organizer, Elements closes totally.  If I'm in Edit and click on Organizer, nothing happens.  I'm still in Edit, but can't get into Organizer from there.

Suggest that you reset preferences. Sometimes this will correct strange behavior.
    Exit PSE.
Open PSE just to the Welcome Screen and press Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Mac: Cmd + Opt + Shift) and keep pressing.
Click on "Edit" from the Welcome Screen but keep pressing the keyboard keys - don't let up.
You will get a little dialog box asking if you want to delete the settings file. Click "Yes."  You can let go of the keyboard keys now.
This will rebuild the file for you and often solves the issue.

  • Why does InDesign always open multiple files in reverse number order?

Whenever I select multiple InDesign files to open, despite being named accordingly Page_01, Page_02, Page_03, etc. InDesign always opens them in reverse order tabs. If I open 10 spreads at once instead of staring at page 1 I'm looking at the back.
Is there any way to fix this? It's driving me mad. I cannot think of why it would be doing this.

Create a book (File -> New -> Book...) and add your files to it. Rearrange the files to the order you want. Then select the needed files and double-click to open them. The tabs will be populated respecting the order the files appear in the book.
Important: BEFORE adding the files to the newly-created book, go to the book panel menu, choose "Book Page Numbering Options..." and deactivate "Automatically Update Page & Section Numbers", to avoid unwanted renumbering of your pages.

  • Why does Photoshop randomly open multiple browsers?

I keep getting this random problem with Photoshop as part of my CC suite.
At random times certain actions I take within Photoshop will launch multiple tabs in firefox directing me to the Adobe help page.
Just now it happend when I was was within my layer 'color overlay' properties and in the process of changing the color to white.
As soon as I click my colour picker Firefox opened up about 20 tabs all pointing to Adobes help page.
I couldn't save my work as every time I went back to Photoshop the same thing happened. I lost my work.
I have the latest update of the 64 bit version of Photoshop.
Why does this happen and how do I fix this?

It's an obscure bug in the Windows version of Photoshop.
We just found the cause and are testing a fix.

  • Why does Photoshop Elements 10 print dark and red, and not match the computer screen?

I switched from Photoshop Elements 7 to Photoshop Elements 10.  I cannot get a print of a photo that matches the screen.  Photos are dark and red.  I cannot edit the photos because I do not know what will print out.   I have switched back to Photoshop 7 and my photos print fine, just as they have been edited.  I have spent hours on the Chat line with Adobe.  They have yet to help me resolve this problem.  Does anyone else have this problem or know what to do?  Adobe sure doesn't. I feel I have wasted money and am afraid to ever upgrade again.

If you are using Photoshop Elements Editor for printing then make sure you have handled the color management of PSE correctly.
There are two different scenario available in PSE to handle color management.
Scenario 1 (When printer manages color). If you're known and familiar to your printer profile, the type of paper you are using and if you have any other customization done for your printer profile then in this case please select Printer Manages Color in Color Handling drop down under color management of PSE.
To achieve this, follow these following steps.
    1. Launch Print dialog.
    2. Click on "More Options..." button.
    3. Now select Color management.
    4. Here you can see the Color Handling drop down. Please select Printer Manages Color.
Note:- Use this scenario when you are sure a about your printer profile and settings.
Scenario 2 (When Photoshop Elements handle color). In case you want PSE to handle all color management then please select Photoshop Elements Manages Color in Color Handling drop down. Then select the same printer profile as Image space.
Note:- If you are using this option, make sure the color management of your Printer is off.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Why does Photoshop Elements not remove the old version after installing an upgrade?

When I install a new version of Photoshop Elements, it converts the old catalog but does not remove the old programs.  I just installed PS 11 over PS 10 and it did not remove it.  I have had the same problem with each upgrade.  I have to manually uninstall the old version.
    Thanks.

It's good to have the software you paid for
Uninstalling the older version post an upgrade might be discomforting to many users, so...
Catalog conversion works fine irrespective of whether you uninstall or do not uninstall the older version since the catalog folders are not touched during uninstall.
    Thanks

  • Why does photoshop elements 12 stall in perfect group shot merge when i get to the point of dragging from the photo bucket to the workspace

Photoshop Elements 12 is stalling when I want to merge group shots.  I am able to put the photos into the photo bucket however if i try to drag the photos to workspace it stalls.

There is a browser plugin or software (BrowserSafeGaurd) which blocks and  tampers network calls. This software has been reported as malware. Please check if you have it on your machine and remove that by following steps mentioned on http://www.tomsguide.com/us/browser-safeguard-remove-how-to,news-19273.html and try to license the software once again.

  • Why does Photoshop not show PSD file image tile in 'Open File' when Facebook can?

When selecting a PSD file in Photoshop the image tile just says "PSD" so visually you cannot select it knowing which version it is.  Why can't Photoshop show the image tile like Facebook can instead of having to use Bridge?  Bridge is a huge memory hog and to have to jump back and forth is a pain.  If I choose a file to upload to Facebook, I can see the standard file icons and also the PSD versions.
Any ideas or should this be a request in the next update?

That's happened a more than a couple of times where I spend 20 minutes carefully preparing a post and then find out some else got it.
Anyway, psd icons in the Explorer is a sure sign of the Windows OS. They could work with Adobe to render thumbnails, but seems something I'm not privy to in their internal policies prevents that.
Chris Cox did offer some insights. The OS vendors expect their rules to be followed, so if the OS does not respond properly, it's not Adobe's job to work around that. I do wonder how third party codec vendors do it. I'll have to ask.
Btw, John Ellis has a quicklook plugin for the Mac that renders PSB thumbnails should you be interested.

  • Why does Excel always open old files?

Since upgrading to Mavericks, whenever I open Excel, the last few spreadsheets I was working on when I upgraded are always opened. I can't seem to prevent this behavior. Is anyone else seeing it? Is there a way to stop it doing so?

If you right click a jpg file, you'll see a contextual menu, select 'Get Info' and in the resulting window about mid way down you will see a drop down menu "Open With', select Preview from the list and then don't forget to select "Change All'.
Now all your jpg's will open in Preview.

  • Why does Photoshop CS open-load presets and plug-ins-then freeze?

Photoshop was working great an hour ago. I closed my project, went to begin a new one, now it loads presets and plugins, reads done, yet it freezes and nothing opens.
I have plenty of RAM and memory, I am running windows 7.
I tried clearing the presets by holding down CTRL+ALT+SHFT - But still no luck.
Any guiding help would be greatly appreciated.

It must be a faulty plug-in that's causing this issue. What version of CS are you running? If it is CS6, have you installed the 13.0.1 update?
In Photoshop, can you go to Help > System Info, 'Copy' the contents and paste it here for us to diagnose your issue please?
