Why Does photoshop quit unexpectedly when i try to open a file from my desktop?

I've always been able to do it previously but today i've had to reinstall all my files and applications (long story) and now for some reason it won't open any files from the desktop.
It seems to be fine if i open the same file from my documents so it just seems strange.
If anyone knows why its doing this that would be great

You mean it crashes?
We can't tell you why it's crashing without seeing the detailed crash log.
But first, make sure you have all the updates installed.

  • Why does Photoshop 6 crash when I try to open a file?

After opening Photoshop 6 I click on "open" to open a file. sometimes the program just closes down, and sometimes it opens a folder but I then get "Photoshop has encountered a problem and needs to close." Effectively, I no longer have the use of the software. What can I do to eliminate this problem?
(I am using Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3.)

Is that photoshop 6 or photoshop cs6?
I'd reset the photoshop preferences by holding down the Shift+Ctrl+Alt keys just after starting the launch of photoshop.
Keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the adobe photoshop settings file.
    Press Yes because you do.

  • Why does iMovie quit unexpectedly when I try to share in iDVD?

Why does iMovie quit unexpectedly when I try to share in iDVD?

I don't know why it happens, but if you read messages around the iMovie Discussion Group it seems to happen to a lot of people. The easiest way around this is to Share to Media Browser instead of Share to iDVD directly. The Media Browser is a 'holding area' for video you want to use in other iLife Apps (including GarageBand and iDVD). When you Share to Media Browser, choose the Large size. Then let it run until it finishes. Quit iMovie.
Open iDVD. Create a New Project, Select a Theme. Then click on the Media Button. Click on the Movies button below the Media Browser. Your project will now appear under the iMovie star icon just drag that project into the iDVD project window. This should bypass the problem you were having by sharing Directly to iDVD.

  • Why does installer quit "unexpectedly" when i try to re-install printer software

lexmark 2500 printer kept claiming to be "offline" so i uninstalled it and when i tried to re-install using the CD I'd used to install the printer when I first bought it the installer kept quitting. any suggestions?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

Why does idisc quit unexpectedly when trying to burn a disk?

Since iDisk is an online service for keeping your data and has nothing to do with burning CDs or DVDs, you must be thinking of something else. What application are you using to burn? the Finder? iTunes? iDVD? Toast? Or something else?
Is there an error message that appears when this occurs?

  • Numbers quits unexpectedly when I try to open it

When I try to open Numbers either by clicking on the icon in my dock or by clicking on one of my Numbers documents, I get a message that Numbers has quit unexpectedly.  When I click on the "try again" button, it still does not open.  I have tried to see if "repairing Permissions" would help but it did not.  I have also run Tech Tool scan which made repairs, but still it does not work.  Does anyone have an idea how to fix this??

Which Numbers version are you trying to run?
    1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3, 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2, 2.0.3, 2.0.4 or 2.0.5

  • Photoshop CC crashes when I try to open a file. CS6 is working fine?

When I go to open a file (any file, jpeg, psd, tif) Photoshop CC launches and begins the process of starting up. The file image appears for a brief moment then the program closes (aka crashes) and that's it. I then try CS6 and it opens the file just fine. Has anyone seen this before and found a fix?
    Thank you.

  • The problem is encountered when we try to open the file from external vendor.

We are using Adobe illustrator CS3 with Patch 13.0.2. in MAC PC with OS 10.4.11. We tried to open the file generated from external vendor. This file is made by CS4/CS5 & downgraded to CS3 because we are using different version of CS package.
When we try to open such as file. It takes some time to open it. But after a while, the application illustrator has unexpectedly quit & crash report is generated. Any expert can help to look at the problem.

    Just a bad file.
No telling what specifically may be the issue without seeing the original file as compaired to the CS3 file.

  • FM11 crashes when I try to open a file from a book

    Hi,
I have been using framemaker 11 all these days. From yesterday , I have a strange issue. FrameMaker 11 crashes every time I open a file from a book.
I have attached the screenshot of the error I get.
Can anyone help  me as to what could be the issue.

I have the same problem periodically. Have you looked at the file referenced?
    My header infor reads:
    === Header Begin ===
    Internal Error: 11004, 21860591, 20722943, 20723475
    FrameMaker 11.0.0 for Intel
    Build: 11.0.0.380
    Window System: MSWindows
Operating System: Windows NT 6.1 (major.minor.build: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1)
Generated on: Wednesday, January 15, 2014 4:09:20 PM
    To file: C:\Users\joe\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\11\FrameLog_14.01.15_16.09.20_2.txt
    === Header End ===
I'm not sure what's up with the Operating System line in this file. I have Win 7 SP 1.
I wonder if you have the same Internal Error, Frame and Build Number? Have you updated your Adobe Apps recenty to the latest and greatest? I have not. Our IT team locks us out from updating. If you have the same build, try updating Frame.
I seem to get the error more often when I work files on networked drives. I experience it less when I work locally on the local hard drive.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why does iMovie quit constantly when I try to Share with Media Browser? I want to burn this movie!

iMovie quits ALL THE TIME when I try to Share with Media Browser in order to burn the DVD.  Why? What can I do? Is it becasue I bought a refurbished Mac? I burned a DVD from another project only a month ago.

  • Why does Photoshop Elements close when I try to get into Organizer?

I have no problem getting into my Photoshop Elements 8, have no problems going into Editing and editing photos, but when I try to get into the Organizer, Photoshop Elements closes, totally.  This has happened in the past when I've been either working in Organizer or Editing, closed Photoshop, and then opened it shortly thereafter.  However, if I closed it and waited several minutes, I'd have no problem getting into Organizer.  Not this time.  Was in it earlier today, couldn't get into Organizer when I tried later, waited a long time several times, with no luck.
One correction:  If I open Elements and try to get into Organizer, Elements closes totally.  If I'm in Edit and click on Organizer, nothing happens.  I'm still in Edit, but can't get into Organizer from there.

Suggest that you reset preferences. Sometimes this will correct strange behavior.
    Exit PSE.
Open PSE just to the Welcome Screen and press Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Mac: Cmd + Opt + Shift) and keep pressing.
Click on "Edit" from the Welcome Screen but keep pressing the keyboard keys - don't let up.
You will get a little dialog box asking if you want to delete the settings file. Click "Yes."  You can let go of the keyboard keys now.
This will rebuild the file for you and often solves the issue.
