Why does Plugin Container run twice or rev and hang things up?

For almost 6 months I've had nothing but problems with Firefox's plug-in container. Almost every time I try to play a game (especially on Facebook) everything starts hanging, my computer starts revving, and when I go to Windows task mgr there are TWO instances of PIC running! I have to either end them or manually end FF. Maybe a coincidence, but it seems to coincide, at times, with unresponsive scripts. I've had a close fried of mine (a very skilled and experienced tech) working on it, but can't seem to get @ the root of the problem. I can't find a solution here or anywhere else, and am starting to consider offering a reward to the person who fixes it. It's a '''ROYAL''' pain!

FF takes forever to close (minutes). When using process explorer I see that as many as 15 instances of plugin-container.exe will be opened during the shut down process. I think this means that a plugin is crashing. I disabled all of the plugins and it still happened (but maybe not so many times). An obvious answer is to leave FF open but that seems kinda dumb. I haven't seemed to be able to find this addressed anywhere. I am using updated Xp, on a many year old machine. Please help.

It is caused by Firefox asking plugins like Flash to remove their cookies and other locally stored data.

Why does plugin-container.exe hog so much cpu usage?

When FF is running with some application (ie flash or maybe shockwave) or some type of embedded function, the cpu usage for plugin-container is generally between 60 and 80 percent. This causes extreme lag and reduced functionallity. Quite frankly it is extremely annoying to have things run so slowly.

Somehow this bug came up on my radar yesterday later in the day: the first two comments indicate different plugins, and the third refers to the Acrobat plugin:

Sounds like your issue, but it's puzzling that they got a tab to crash and in your case only plugin-container.exe crashed.

Why does plugin-container.exe not start up with Firefox 3.6.15 anymore?

I have Firefox 3.6.15, Firefox 4.0 RC1 and Pale Moon 3.6.15 on my PC. Even though each .exe file is in a separate folder, if I start up say, Firefox 4.0 RC1 for awhile and then close it and start up Firefox 3.6.15 my settings are messed up and I have to fix some of them. I just noticed in Task Manager that plugin-container.exe does not start up with FF 3.6.15 and FF 4.0 RC1 and Pale Moon 3.6.15 anymore. I'm not sure what I did to cause this. I even went into Mozilla's folder and tried to start up plugin-container manually, but it does not start up. I'm at a loss, do I have to do a clean install of three browsers to fix this?

Why does plugin container crash ONLY on city of wonder on facebook

When trying to load City of Wonder on facebook, I get firefox not responding, then it closes, and checks for a solution.
Then it tells me that a plugin container stopped working. Ive tried everything, as it works fine on my daughter computer with an older version of firefox, I have installed an older version 3.5.10 and it stilll happened, then I installed the latest version 3.6.10.
I went to the help section and updated the adobe reader firefox told me was out of date, still it happens...how do I fix it once and for all??
I searched the web for answers, but none work, its really frustrating!

On my MBP, OS 10.7.1, Safari 5.1:
The bottom "About Covu" is not live. Spaces is, but then I get the planet and it just sits there.
Blasts just sends the background up to Blasts. No more information is available.
Same machine, using Firefox:
Same results. No Difference.

Why does plugin-container.exe so often crash when closing PDF files?

When I load multiple PDFs in Firefox to check their content for errors one by one, closing one PDF tab to reveal another PDF tab very often causes plugin-container.exe to crash, which means I have to reload each remaining PDF tab to view the remaining files. This of course defeats the purpose of opening more than one at a time, and actually adds about 5 times as many clicks to the whole process because I have to clear the error and reload each page, then it might happen again or might not. It doesn't happen every time I close a PDF, but about 1 in 4 times.
I realize I have two versions of Acrobat installed (Acrobat 9.5.5 and Reader 11.0.10), and thus two Firefox plugins, but for the record this same thing happens on other computers that just have Reader or just have Acrobat, so it's not an issue of conflicting plugins. Though I did notice you aren't allowed to disable just one or the other -- deactivating one deactivates both. At first it seems not to, but if you reload the plugins page, you'll see both are actually off.
Windows coughs up the following error report when plugin-container.exe crashes, but Firefox says nothing, I guess because the plugin-container is a standalone app:

I am trying to create an application that I can run and change the function of my F1, F2 keys to or from standard function. I found this AppleScript online and it works... but it runs twice in a row:

Why does weekely maintenance run twice?

Can anyone figure out why my weekly maint. which is run once a week ( that's correct) BUT the steps are done twice? Very weird. Hmmm. Note the "applesaved" script. I didn't read them command by command, but they look exactly alike.
Maybe launchd runs EVERYTHING in the /private/etc/periodic/daily/ ? Does that make sense? Perhaps if I removed the "applesaved" I'd only get one run? That's what the thread referenced above seems to imply. However, I'm not one to mess much with the system internals of Apple's software.

Why does "plugin container for firefox" suddenly adjust the volume on my laptop? It only adjusts the volume of firefox, but it lowers it to next to nothing. HELP!

As of just today, whenever i play a video in firefox, the volume suddenly drops to next to nil. The problem is that i didn't change ANYTHING. This is what i saw. I tried numerous times to change the volume back, and every few minutes it would return to what it was in the picture. Any ideas WHY it's suddenly doing this? Nothing has changed, but it just started today.

The Java update is not a security issue, but does enable Java to improve performance in Firefox 4.0.x

I have consistently had up to five instances of plugin container running in the background...
* Windows Vista 32 bit build Ver 6.0 SP 2

So far nothing can be attributed to web browsing behavior.

There is a known issue where multiple instances of plugin container open if history or cookies are cleared. Are you, or some utility clearing firefox cookies or history, that could be the reason. This problem continues even if plugins are disabled in Firefox.
*Are you opening multiple instances of Flash Player ?
* Is the problem reproducible ? for instance does it always crash the plugin or cause it to hang if you use a particular site ?
If you get the FlashPlayer plugin crashing use the option to submit the crash reports, it is then possible to follow them up. It is possible to stop the plugincontainer opening, but that could result in a firefox crash. Of course the firefox crash can also send crash reports out, and that could be useful.

There are some problems with FlashPlayer currently under investigation, and there may be other threads in the forum about problems. (e.g. Bug 561019 - Plugin waveOutOpen hangs )
Sometimes using Firefox 3.6 is a workaround that helps with FlashPlayer problems, if you wish to experiment with that consider installing firefox Portable and using Firefox 3.6.23 (or soon 3.6.24) for tests with flash player, whilst keeping firefox 7 for day to day browsing.

I am not certain but I believe it is likely to be due to the fact that FlashPlayer use will result in Localy Stored Objects and possibly other cached items and so the service will need to open in order to clear them.

As an aside you can choose not to save History or to use Private Browsing on those occasions when it is important not to save the History. There should be no need to clear History manually to improve Firefox performance.

why is plugin-container.exe necessary? It only causes problems with my browsing. I used to have no problems until this was added. I got away from Internet Explorer because it sucked and needed to be updated all the time. It looks like Firefox is starting to resemble that. Why can't you just make a browser that works well and leave it alone instead of highly suggesting we upgrade to the newest version of Firefox which seems like once a week now and causes more problems every time. I'm loosing faith.
