Why does Premiere Pro blue-screen if Windows Audio Service is enabled?

Since I enabled ASIO in Premiere Pro, I have to remember to disable the Windows Audio Service before starting Premiere Pro, or else it will blue-screen at some point, usually after I pause playback of a video clip.  It only happens in ASIO audio mode, and completely goes away if I disable Windows Audio.  Something is interacting badly between the Premiere Pro ASIO driver and the Windows Audio service.  The error message has something to do with USB host or something like that...I don't have it in front of me right now.
I tried to create a batch file to disable the service, then run Premiere Pro with "start /wait", then re-enable it when premiere is closed, but Premiere Pro cannot be run by that command, unlike every other executable I've ever used it on.  It just doesn't come up.  So I tried with a Powershell script instead, and when doing the equivalent in Powershell, Premiere Pro starts, but the window is blank and hangs forever until you kill it by clicking the X.  I would be fine with a scripting workaround, but Premiere Pro is really really really resistant to that apparently, so my only option is to remember to disable it manually EVERY SINGLE TIME.  It's just annoying when I forget to disable it and then I lose work, and probably hard drive clusters, when the blue-screen comes.  And if I want to export something to another program in the suite that doesn't use ASIO, I won't be able to play audio without closing Premiere and fiddling with the service.
Here are the specs that might be relevant:
-Windows 7 x64
-M-Audio FastTrack Pro sound card (usb) [latest drivers]
-12 GB RAM
-Intel core i7
-gtx 460 video card with the ini file CUDA hack

I'll make sure to do that.  But in case the bug takes a long time to fix or gets pointed to M-Audio, who will most likely not ever fix it if it's in their stuff, does anybody know how I can get the batch file and/or powershell solution to work?  I don't really get why Premiere Pro would know or care who launched it as long as it launched in its own process.

  • Why Does Premiere Pro CS4 Import Only 10 Seconds Of Layered Photoshop CS4 .psd??

Why Does Premiere Pro CS4 Import Only 10 Seconds Of Layered Photoshop CS4 .psd??
I have a 24 second clip I layered in Ps and when I import the psd into Pr THE SEQUENCE IS ALWAYS ONLY 10 SECONDS!
How can I change this?  Why does this happen?  I really need to know as soon as possible.  I have a video project due this Wednesday (granted it's for an AV class where I'm just learning Pr.  But I can learn VERY FAST!)
    Thanks for your help.
    --OSXniCKels

Just in case I wasn't clear in my last line "just Click-drag on the Tail of your .PSD to set the desired Duration," once you have Imported your .PSD (as Footage), just drag it to the Timeline, Click-drag on the right-hand margin (the Tail) and stretch out its Duration, as is required.
Now, if you Imported as a Sequence, open that Sequence's Timeline, and do the same.
I normally will set my Edit>Preferences>Still Duration to about what I think will be applicable, do my Import, and then with the Info Panel handy, just alter the Duration to suit.
    Good luck,

  • Why does Premiere Pro CS5 eat up space on my C drive when it conforms video files?

Hey everyone. I have Premiere Pro CS5 with the latest update installed. I am running Windows 7 64-bit on a 120GB Corsair SSD drive. I have set my scratch disk video and audio previews to a different hard drive (F: drive). I have three questions:
    1. Why does Premiere eat up space on my C drive whenever it conforms the video files I import into my project?
    2. Where on my C drive can I find the folder that holds all these conformed video files that are taking up space on my C drive?
    3. How do I prevent Premiere from eating up space on my hard drive when it conforms the video files I import into my project? Is there some way to move whatever folder is eating up space on my hard drive when Premiere conforms the video files and tell Premiere to conform the video files on another hard disk so I don't lose precious space on my C drive?
Okay, that's four questions but, can some please help me on this? Thanks.
    Okay, that's five questions.

    hello,
i think you need to relocate you media  cache files to a separate drive other than your c: drive.
in the hardware forum, Harm has done a wonderful job at advising on HDD setup, i think it mentions relocation
of swap file, media cache, etc.  all which are defaulted to your c: in your user profile
after relocating to different physical drives (all without partitions) performance usually increases

hope this helps til someone else answers more

  • Why does Premiere Pro CS5 process audio source before exporting clip in AME CS5?

Hello everyone, my first post here. I am currently trying out the trial CS5 Master Collection on my MacBook Pro. I've been using Premiere Pro CS5 to put together family videos. I select a certain portion of a sequence and queue it for export in Media Encoder CS5 in the format H.264 for iPod with video and audio.
Now in AME I have a queue list of about 5 clips from the sequence. But when I hit the Start Queue button, the bottom left of the progress bar states "Adobe Premiere Pro processing audio source from [then file name]"  for all 5 clips from the sequence then creates the first output file.
Then it moves to encode the second and again states "Adobe Premiere Pro processing audio source from [then file name]"  for all 5 clips of mt sequence then spits out only the second output file.
This continues for the remaining 3 output files. The total sequence length is ~32 minutes with transitions and it takes about 35 minutes to export which is all consumed by the process audio source of the 5 clips in my sequence for 5 separate times.
Is there a certain reason why Media Encoder or Premiere Pro does this process of audio source? Is this process necessary or needed? I experimented with choosing different output formats but the results are the same. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Now that's pretty good follow-up to your first post, and quickly too! Nice detective work.
As you have found, there is basically a Render/Replace operation going on in PrPro, to get the material in the correct form for AME.
Thank you for reporting, as it saved me, and others, from basically saying what you said.
Good luck, and sorry that you beat us to the punch.

  • Why does Premiere Pro CC 2014 renders incredibly slow?

    Dear Premiere Pro experts
I created a movie with Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 and I have serious performance issues when it comes to export the movie.
The first 10% renders pretty fast and takes 1 hour. Then it takes for every additional 1% about 4 hours! (never rendered it to finish so far, 14% max so far)
Here are some facts that might help to isolate the problem:
    Project:
Length: 24 minutes in total, splitted into several sequences (up to 4 minutes) and arranged on a "main-sequence"
Input: Cineform AVI files, 1080p, 59fps (I converted GoPro 3+ footage (3D!) using GoPro Studio to the Cineform format for further processing)
Desired Output: Same as input, preserving 3D (Render 3D Intermediate)
Effects used: Warp-Stabilizer (default settings) and Auto-Color (smoothing 1-2 sec) on almost every clip.
    Hardware / Software:
    i7-3770K @3.5 GHZ (Quadcore)
    16 GB RAM
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970 (also tried with a ATI Radeon R9 290X)
    Windows 8.1
SSD for OS and programs, RAID 0 for media files and project, separate drive for rendering output.
Then I tried to render using AME using the same settings. The whole video rendered in about 14 hours what is acceptable in my case. There problem here is that the 3D gets lost, even if I selected "Render 3D Intermediate". The picture for the left eye is the same as the one for the right eye. This is not happening when I do a direct export. But the direct export get almost stuck at around 10%.
There is almost no difference in choosing Software-Rendering and GPU. Also, the GPU has almost no load. Premiere Pro uses the CPU for about 45% (total usage 65%) and takes up 5-9 GB of memory (total usage 65%). Disk usage at around 14b/s.
I think there are two problems. One is that AME renders differently (no 3D) and the other is that the direct export takes way too long.
Can someone help me with any of these problems?
    Thank you,
    Martin

I did some additional research and found out, that the slow rendering happens with this combination:
    - Auto-Color using Temporal Smoothing
    - Render 3D Intermediate
Without rendering the 3D intermediate, Temporal Smoothing is not a problem. And without temporal smoothing, Rendering 3D Intermediate is not a problem.
Might this be a problem in the codec or in Premiere?

  • Why does Premiere Pro CS 6 hang when option opening bins, clip to sequence, etc?

    Hello,
I am having an issue with Premiere Pro CS6 performing a few commands:
    -     Option Clicking Bins to open them
    -     Duplicating Sequences
    -     Performing Clip to Sequence
    -     Creating Sequence: File → New → Seq
I am not having these issues (the system does not hang) when loading shots, Match-framing, watching dailies, etc in my source monitor or watching the assembly.  Everything works fine when actually cutting, trimming, inserting, etc.  Cutting in the timeline is actually a pleasure – fast and very responsive.
The problem only happens when I’m in bins.
My project is rather large – about 49.9MB, with over 100 folders and bins (it is a feature).
I have tested these commands with smaller projects – importing a sequence from the current "hanging" project into a new project  - and everything is working fine with the small project of that one sequence and consolidated clips from the sequence.
I originally thought it as a RAW issue (I had 8GB).  When I installed another 8GB of RAM for a total of 16GB the issue stopped and I have been editing fine for the last few days.
However yesterday the issue started again – it hangs on the commands listed above (Mac’s spinning wheel).   The operation is usually completed successfully however it can take up anywhere from five to ten minutes before the sequence is duplicated or the bin opens (option clicking), etc.
Again, from what I’ve gathered it does not happen with smaller projects – with less bins, footage, clips, etc. but only with this rather large project – with many daily bins, sequence bins, etc.
    My system spec. are:
    MacPro 1,1 - OS X 10.6.8
    2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    16GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
The media that I’m cutting is ProRes (transcoded from Epic RED footage).
I'm wondering if this issue is hardware-related or Premiere Pro CS6-related.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Matteo

  • Why does Premiere Pro not show in the Creative Cloud

I just bought the montly membership, paid, got the confirmation, but still Premiere Pro does not show in my Creative Cloud options - under audio/video it only shows  and Photoshop, Prelude and Audition.
When I use the link in the email confirmation that I received I can press 'getting started'.
This leads me to the online Creative Cload Download - when I scroll to Premiere Pro, click on download I go to the next page, but still the program does not show?
What should I do differently? I am logged in already.
    Please help me!

Do you have a 64-bit machine?  Normally the listing will only include programs that your machine is capable of running.  Check your machine capabilities against the requirements for Premiere Pro and see if it comes up short.

  • Why does Premiere Pro 6.0 become unresponsive with longer video sequences?

Laptop A works fairly well with small Premiere Pro CS6 projects of 9 minute duration. Project is on external drive connected via USB2. Processing time is long, but at least I can get all my work done.
However, when I use Laptop A for larger projects (25-minute duration), Premiere becomes unresponsive.
Example: I try to press STOP during playback and it does no respond. In fact, the only way to stop playback is to press CTRL-S and wait for a minute until the CPU is ready to acknowledge your keystrokes.
On Laptop B the same 25-minute project performs fine (again project is on external hard drive, but this time connected over USB3).
So there are four differences between my laptops:
    LAPTOP A
    LAPTOP B
    Make & OS
Win 7 Home Premium - 64-bit (Lenovo ThinkPad)
    Win 7 Pro - 64-bit (Dell Precision)

    Internal HD
    SATA2
    SSD
    RAM
    8GB
    16GB
    USB
    USB2
    USB3
I can live with Laptop A being slow, but the unresponsive is a show stopper for me. Please help me figure out which of these factors is causing the unresponsiveness.
    Thanks!

  • Why does Premiere pro locks out effect and media render when I have an active creative cloud account?

  • Why is Premiere Pro CS5.5 scrambling the Audio Track on some of my Canon DLSR clips?

I've recently started editing a Wedding, and realised that in the Source Window the clips audio doesn't match up with the visual - clips play perfectly, but the audio cuts out, is scrambled, and only rarely is in sync with the video.
This has never happened before. I shot all the video on Canon 60D and 550D. The original clips all play perfectly, with matching audio, in quicktime or any other application when opened.
I'm editing on an iMac 27" running Mac OSX 10.7.4, with 3.4GHz Intel Core i7 and 16GB ram. I am running Adobe Production Premium CS5.5, Premiere Pro 5.5.2 with all the updates up to date.
I did import the folder system from Finder into After Effects CS5.5 (in order to keep all the sub-folder system in tact) and then copied them into Premiere, in order to save time. Could this be the cause of my grief?
    Anyone know any fixes?
There aren't any AIFF's in the project at all.
    Cheers,
    Thomas

I had the same problem with some footage I shot on Saturday. The footage was shot with the Panasonic AF100, with audio in the LPCM format.
After I ingested the footage with Prelude, some of the later clips were badly garbled. At random intervals, the audio would "skip ahead" and lose sync. The audio would finish early and the there would be silence for the second half of the clip. All of the early clips were fine, the later ones were garbled.
I was able to use another take where the audio was fine, but I was certainlty worried. Was my camera malfunctioning? Was it an SD card error? Was it a Premiere bug?
I finally got a chance to revisit this today. The data was still on the card, so I put it back to the camera and played it back. The audio was fine. So it was definitely Premiere.
In Premiere, I deleted the Media Cache (Edit->Preferences->Media) and while I was at it I selected "Save Media Cache Files Next To Originals" so in the future it would be easier to figure out which cache files went with which clips.
After Premiere reconformed the audio, the problem diasppeared.
I've been using this camera with Premiere for the last year, and have been using Premiere for many years and have never seen this issue in the past.  So I assume it's a new quirk, something we'll have to keep alert to in CS6.

  • Why does Premiere Pro CS3 no longer import .psd files?

Over in the German forum, BjoernG has already asked this question as of this past June.  He's gotten no answer, so let's try it here.  Like Bjoern I use PPro CS3.  Mine is on WinXP with all updates.  I import PSD files as keying masks.  I've never had a problem until this evening (27 Aug 2014).  I tried to import a mask I've used many times before.  And it has always worked before.  Tonight PPro refused to recognize .psd as a supported file type, so it didn't show in the import folder file list.  When I told PPro to show "all files *.*", it showed the file.  When I selected it, PPro even showed the "import file" window, then displayed the "File Import Failure" window with Error Message:  File format not supported.  See the picture.
This is a file I've imported into many previous projects with no problem whatever.  In fact, I started with a project file from last year which showed the mask file in the project assets but offline!  Even though the file had not been moved.
If PPro CS3 is as obsolete as Adobe claims it is, then who's been messing with it?  And how can we get it "unmessed"?

I couldn't imagine what any of those steps would do for my problem – but I didn't have a better idea so I tried them:
    > If Premiere is acting weird, restart computer.
It's a laptop, so it was off all night.  I turned it on this morning.
    > Hold down shift+alt while opening Premiere.
If I hold down shift-alt before clicking the desktop icon, all it does is select all icons from top left to the Premiere icon.  It does not start Premiere.
If I press and hold shift-alt immediately after clicking the icon, Premiere displays every tiny module it loads rather than summarizing.  I held shift-alt until Premiere was fully up and idle.
    > Then empty all media cache.
I did that.  As I write, Premiere is busy reconstituting all of that.
Then finally, the acid test:  Try to import a .psd file.  Bzz-z-zt!  Still claims it's an unknown file type.
    > jpegs do not have transparency. You can save as png instead.
I'm using it as a track matte key, so white is equivalent to transparent.  I do have to select "matte luma" instead of "matte alpha" in the effect.  I'll save your advice in case I ever do need transparency.
Follow-up:  I checked my other licensed copy.  It accepts .psds just fine.  I checked Help About for both; they're identical:  3.2.0 (374).  So the problem must be in an internal setting, an external influence, or a defective module.  And remember, it's not just me, Björn in Germany reported the identical problem in June.

  • Why does Premiere Pro stop, or drop frames when using the Timecode Effect.

The Timecode Effect is gpu accelerated, the render bar is yellow and it still drops frames.
If it drops frames on a yellow bar, how can I ever trust it to print to tape? It wouldn't be a problem if I could say render the yellow sections of my edit, but it won't because the bar is not red. Very frustrating!

    gtx470 graphics card;
12GB of memory (9 reserved for Premiere)

working with uncompressed black magic 1080i AVI's
It seems to happen when I have overlapping clips with the Timecode Effect on one or both. Plays fine if just a single clip with the effect.
Any help would be great, hopefully I'm just missing something simple..

    Harm,
Here is a capture of my speed test. I do have 4 disks on a raid 0, very little data on the drives. I have run 3 tracks of HD with different levels of opacity with no problem. I do crash the drives when I add the forth. So I would like to think that two tracks with accelerated effect should be fairly simple to playback. Am I wrong to be thinking that way? Also only working with 8 bit, This test is for 10 and up.
The read comes in above 500 mb/s. It was on the way up when I captured it.
