Why does PS 7 not recognize Adobe RGB files?

I have an Olympus E-620 DSLR. When I set the color space in the camera to sRGB, after downloading the images, when I click to open them in Photoshop 7, the images are properly identified as sRGB files. When I set the color space in the camera to Adobe RGB, Photoshop does not recognize the format. Please see the picture below.
Question 1: Why does Photoshop not recognize the Adobe RGB files?
Question 2: What can I do to make Photoshop recognize Adobe RGB files?
Question 3: If I assign in Photoshop the Adobe RGB profile to an unrecognized Adobe RGB file, does that even make any sense? Is the "extra data" that Adobe RGB offers compared to sRB even there even if the profile is not recognized in the first place?
I am very grateful for any comments and advice!

Are you saying that the file is really AdobeRGB and because PS7 is so old its defaulting to sRGB? which is why you are assigning?
Yes...if the file name starts with an underscore _IMG12345 then the image is indeed in Adobe RGB. It's a failure and limitation of the EXIF spec that only allows for two different EXIF tags relating to color space...either sRGB or "unspecified".
Since the camera makers wanted to offer Adobe RGB as a color space choice in camera JPEGs, the underscore was the ONLY way to say whether a file was in sRGB or Adobe RGB. Note that camera JPEGs do NOT have an embedded profiles, just the EXIF tag. And yes, Photoshop 7 is/was too old to understand the Adobe RGB underscore color space.
A lot of stuff has changed (sometimes radically) since that piece of software was released...heck, there wasn't even a Camera Raw until about 9 months AFTER Photoshop 7 was released. Camera Raw 1.0 was released Feb. 19th, 2003, Photoshop 7 was released about April 2002.

  • Why does elements 11 not recognize nikon nef files

I have been using Elements 11 for quite a while for Canon Raw files with great success. It really works fine for me.
I recently bought a Nikon D300. For some reason Elements 11 will not recognize the Nikon NEF raw files.
    W H Y ? ? ?

    Thank you for your reply.
    Answers to your questions:
I am using Win7 64 bit. Elements 11 has worked just fine until I attempted to process NEF files.
I always copy files to my HD before trying to process any.
How do I check to see if my Camera Raw module is current? EVERY time, regardless of day of the week or time of day, when do the Help/Update thing I ALWAYS  get that message block about website is busy, try again. I'll bet I've tried it over a hundred times over the past two weeks or so. I have a feeling that it can't be that busy for that long. Or, maybe I'm just unlucky, or maybe your server is too small to handle the load.
Needless to say, I am really frustrated with Adobe.
Again, thank you for your reply, and hopefully my answers will provide a solution.

  • Why does my iMac not recognize my iPod nano?

I recently purchased an iPod nano, with the touch screen, for my wife. Obviously she wanted to immediately connect it to our iMac 27" and transfer her music files. But the iMac does not recognize the iPod, whatever we try. It does not turn up in iTunes, the Finder or System report, and it does not charge. The really strange thing is that the computer has no problems with my HTC Wildfire, running Android. It also has no problems with flashdrives, our portable hard drive or printer. Only the iPod. So much for the "Im a mac and I always work.. diddely."
    I have tried the following:
Reset the iPod nano by holding the power button until the grey apple appeares
Restore the iPod nano from a PC running Windows XP (Which had no problems recognizing the device by the way)
Tried to connect with two different cables (Wich again both worked well with on the PC)
Updated iTunes to the newest version
    Ugraded from Snow to Lion
    Reset PRAM, NVRAM and SMC
    Shouting
None of those has made any difference. What should I do next?
    My Mac is a iMac 27", produced in 2009, 3,06 GHz Intel core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Ram S/N: W80031TH5PE. Running MacOS X 10.7.2

  • Why does my bank not recognize my computer every time I log on, and this only occurs when I log on with Firefox not other browsers

I log on to by bank and firefox remembers my account #, but when the next screen pops up the bank does not recognize my computer. Each time after answering the correct security question ,I check the box to remember this as a personal computer but it never does. This only happens when I use Firefox, not other browsers. The other browsers remember the acct and that it is a personal computer.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
We hope to hear from you soon.
I would not recommend storing any bank information on your computer, for various security issues.

  • Why does LR 4 not recognize Sigma lenses (NEX 7) automatically in Develo module for lens corrections

In Lightroom 4.6,  "enabling lens profile" in the Develop module works perfectly for Sony lenses with NEX ARW files (NEX 7).
When i use Sigma lenses instead, nothing happens although "enable  profile corrections " is ticked, no matter what is set next: auto, custom, or default....
I am getting tired to always have to fill in the 3 Lens Profile questions (but only for Sigma lenses) with 1: Sigma, then 2: search the lens in Lightroom's long Sigma list and click, and finally 3: hope it takes.
I am assuming that Lightroom reads the Metadata (where the Sigma and Sony lenses are fully described, I have checked!), but does not cooperate with Sigma, while Sony lenses work so well.
Why is that so and how can I get the proper lens profile automatically if the lens does have its own Adobe profile loaded?

Pick the correct lens manually then choose 'Save New Lens Profile Defaults' from Setup drop down menu. Lr should remember the lens and use it as the default in future. See screenshot below

  • Why does my computer not recognize my iphone?

My MacBook Pro is not recognizing my iPhone 4. The iPhone is making the beeping sound as it is plugged in, but iTunes does not show it on the left side panel and it is not showing up on the desktop. I have tried using a different cord (the one to another ipod), but it did not solve the problem. The cord I'm using has worked fine to charge it to the wall. Is there a setting in iTunes that I need to adjust in order for it to recognize or do I need to make an appointment at the Apple store to have them look at the iPhone? I bought the iPhone new just two days ago, so it shouldn't have any problems (ha), and otherwise it has been working just great.
Any tips or suggestions? I would appreciate any help I can get!

  • Why does ACR CC not recognize QPcalibration from Nikon D810

I used to make color calibrations with a QP Card 203:
    1) Take a picture of the QPcard in the actual light with f.ex. Nikon D300S,
    2) use QPcalibration to create a named colorprofile,
    3) wich shows in CameraRaw 8.7.1 Camera Clibration in CameraProfile dropdown list and in LR Develop Camera Calibration Profile. (If the picture is taken with Nikon D300S)
But this does not work with Nikon D810.
    The computer runs Win7 x64 professional(DK).
    LR 5.7, ACR 7.7, Ps CC 14.2.1 x64
    It has cameraprofiles in
      C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\Camera
    and in
      C:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
Everthing seems to work as it did with D300s except:
I can´t persuade ACR and LR to show my new QP profiles!
    What is wrong?

    Hi,

  • Why does Boot Camp not recognize Windows ISO image(s) ?

    Dear friends,
My intention is to install Windows 7 on my Mac
(I've several Windows OS .iso images)
in the "BOOTCAMP" called partition, created by Boot Camp 3.0 application, on my internal drive.
This is a 32 GB partition, being FAT32 formatted,
but any version of Windows 7 (when installing)
will surely want to be on an NTFS volume and reformat it.
I've already burned 3 ISOs, with Toast Titanium 10.0.7 (speed : 2x, less not possible), on 3 DVDs :
    — 1 DVD -RW with W7 Enterprise x64 (with folders and strict ISO 9660 names) ;
    — 1 DVD -RW with W7 Enterprise x86 (32-bit) with one unique ISO, alone ;
    — 1 DVD -R with W7 Ultimate x86 (32-bit) with one unique ISO, alone.
*Boot Camp doesn't recognize these discs as Windows installation DVDs*,
and so does nothing but wait.
I'm sure that something is missing on the disks to be recognized
    as bootable Windows installation discs,
but I absolutely don't know what (setup.exe, for example, or another .exe file ?).
Do I have to do something with the burning options
(strict ISO 9660 naming, Mac names authorized, Hybrid Mac and PC,
Joliet names or not, folders or not, etc.)
Do I have to do something with the ISO image (any ISO I have), and how, and what ?
I've also activators and many other things (.exe files),
but I think they have to be used AFTER installation.
Thank you very much in advance for your help !
    With my kind regards,
    Olivier Herrbach

    Dear baltwo,
Thank you very much for your feedback.
I'll go there immediately. It's obvious for me that only one .iso file, alone on a DVD, can't be sufficient, comparing with +(but I don't know what)+ is on a Microsoft Windows Install DVD.
    With my kind regards
    Olivier Herrbach
PS : I didn't have any time to reply to anyone, when I asked "How can I move something (copying it) without leaving original in it's place ?". Someone had the answer : "Drag and hold down cmd while releasing mouse". OK, it works, but you have to have good nerves, because folders open when doing that (I changed delay in Finder Preferences to the slowest), and there's also another inconvenient : I don't trust in copy (I want a one by one byte result), so I have to write what Get Info says BEFORE, and compare it after that with what Get Info says. In this case, I prefer to return to my old habits.
PPS : I observed, and I will tell it somewhere when possible, that *Get Info gives false informations*.
For example, I copied a folder with 58 items inside. Get Info didn't give me the same number of bytes for the copy as for the original. So, I did Get Info for *EACH of the 58 items*, wrote the results (in bytes) on a paper, and after adding *all the bytes of the copy*, found THE SAME NUMBER *as the total size of the original.* That's how I waste my time !
Good evening, hoping to read you somewhere soon.

  • Why does MacBook suddenly not recognize printer?

My HP Photosmart D5069 printer was working fine but suddenly the print jobs would not start. Things originally got a little quirky when I tried to connect to an USB hub but then I disconnected everything and reconnected and then it worked okay until this latest problem. There was a perpetual exclamation point next to the printer name in the print dialogue box. I tried to reset the printers but now the Print Browser won't recognize the HP printer at all. This happened with my last printer (Lexmark) and I finally just tossed it but this HP is new and I know it's not a printer problem as I downloaded the latest drives and the HP updater confirms I have the latest software on my MacBook.
Any ideas on how I can get the MacBook to recognize the printer like it always did in the past?

I need a bigger trash can!
Printer is not listed in System Profiler. USP port indicates there's nothing there.
I did get the printer to work for half a second after leaving it unplugged overnight. I successfully added the printer in the Printer Set Up utility. Unfortunately, the paper jammed and after dealing with that, the printer went offline where it remains now. Maybe it needs another full night's rest.

  • Why does apple tv not recognize my apple id?

I'm using Apple TV and trying to share it on my network.  Why doesn't it recognize my id when I put it in.  It was working before but I couldn't get it to recognize my laptop so I reset my account and now it says it doesn't exsist.  I'm on wireless all the way around.  The account works fine for my laptop's iTunes.  Any help would be welcome.  Jason

  • HT201320 Why does auto fill not recognize my email address

I have set up auto fill. It use to work fine till I cloud was installed. Now when I use auto fill all the information is filled out. But when the page refreshes, it comes back as a invalid email address even though everything is correct. Is there a solution.

Was this group email successfully sent by your .Mac
    account?
No; that was the first time I received the error message.
How many recipients were included with this group
    mailing?
    30+
Do you send a number of messages to a large number of
recipients on a daily basis with your .Mac account?
No; I do periodically, maybe 3-4 times a year to announce major changes with firm. Emails have worked in the past but possible I did them from my road runner account.
As with most other email accounts, .Mac has a sending
limit on the total number of recipients per message
and the total number of recipients for all messages
sent in a 24 hour period.
You ISP at home is RoadRunner but you use a different
    ISP at the shared office?
Yes; trying to find out who it is.
If you are also accessing your RR email account with
the Mail.app and RR is not your ISP at the shared
office, are you able to send messages with your RR
email account and SMTP server when connected to the
    internet at the shared office?
I access the RR email via the RR website, not via the Mail App.
Just hitting all angles in an attempt to eliminate
    possible causes of this problem.

  • Why does iMovie '09 not directly import MTS files?

I see lots of posts of people having problems with their HD movies. I have 16GB of movies on my Canon HF100 that I cannot import into iMovie because of some weird iMovie bug where it is looking at the entire file structure on the card. I can reformat the SD card and shoot a few quick movies and iMovie '09 recognizes the card and imports just fine. The million dollar question is why can't iMovie '09 import MTS files directly? What about for people with archived MTS files? To me something is missing here. Either iMovie '09 has a bug importing or there is some super critical folder structure it is looking for before it imports. This is obviously not an isolated issue. BTW, I do not want to and should not have to use a third party file converter. Every conversion means loss in quality. Can someone at Apple address our issues? Is there possible a fix coming?

I have been searching for an answer to this question and no one seemed to have an answer. There is however a very easy work around thanks to the poster RodrigoPoloDOTcom.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10745889#10745889
Basically you can re-encode all of your MTS files very fast with FFMPEG and using the command ffmpeg -i myvideo.m2ts -acodec copy -vcodec copy myvideo.m4v
If you are on a Mac you can instal FFMPEG with RodrigoPoloDOTcom's method. Paste the following entries into the Terminal:
    curl -O http://rodrigopolo.com/ffmpeg/binkit/mac/binkit-v1.1.tar.gz
    tar xzvf binkit-v1.1.tar.gz
    cd binkit-v1.1/
    ./install.sh
    cd ..
    rm -rf ./binkit-v1.1
    rm binkit-v1.1.tar.gz
Then you can navigate to your directory that contains all of your MTS files and execute the following command from Terminal:
apply 'ffmpeg -i %1 -acodec copy -vcodec copy %1.m4v' *.MTS
I was then able to import my movies into iMovie '09 with ease. I do not understand why iMovie '09 cannot do something like this when trying to import MTS files directly.

  • Why does PP CS5 not keep my preview files on my Mac?

I love Premiere Pro on my Mac because it interfaces so well with AE. However, every time I render something in my DSLR timeline, shutdown Premiere, then open it later, I have to re-render again.
I am not a novice and I know what I am doing, but I've tried everything and it won't keep my render files.
I want to switch away from Final Cut because I can edit DSLR natively in Premiere, but Final Cut seems to work better.
I am using dual 2.93 ghz quad core Xeon processors, 16gb ram. Internal 4tb raid, 3 external 4tb GRaid firewire drives for video storage. These 3 drives are always attached to my system and are always on when editing. The render files are always there and not on another portable drive somewhere.
I can render my timeline in PPro, then close the program.  Open the program back up in a minute and have to re-render.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.
