Why does putting item in trash require permission?

The box shown below appears when dragging an item into the trash... it was not doing this yesterday.
I have Zapped the PRAM, run Onyx and Disk Utility.
Lookng for the answer.
Thanks

Onyx may have corrupted something.  Remove it.
You should only use utilities outside of Apple's outside of backup for troubleshooting.
Any others you might have downloaded could also be causing the problem.
Files dragged to the trash should have no trouble as long as there isn't anything system related already in the trash, or the file itself is one you definitely created under the same account.
Repairing permisssion with Disk Utility may fix issues.

Yeah the whole "blame the OS" thing is a red herring. What the hell is Firefox doing looking on my external drives in the first place? It asks permission to use a font on another drive, but what else is it looking at outside of the Applications folder where it should know enough to mind its own business?

  • Why does the Linksys WRT54G router REQUIRE a hostname when it's never used?

Why does the Linksys WRT54G REQUIRE a hostname when it's never used?
I can't find a single use for the router hostname, yet the Linksys WRT54G version 5 firmware v1.00.6 wireless router REQUIRES a hostname, even though nothing actually uses that hostname.
Why does the router require a hostname (why can't we just leave that field blank)?

This is to report a bug in the "Setup", "Basic Setup"
    tab, "Router Name" field
    (https://10.2.18.20/basic.htm) in the otherwise
wonderful Linksys WRT54G V5 wireless router (firmware
    revision 1.02.0).
As you are aware, a router is a security and privacy
device; as such, it should not require identifying
information if that identifying information is not
needed nor used by the user or their ISP.
Such is the case with the "router name" field.
In the case of the "Unnecessary Router Name
Requirement" bug, I am reporting to you (and to the
associated Linksys forums at forums.linksys.com) the
Router Name field should NOT be required. It should be
an option to leave the Router Name field blank.
The fact that the router name field MUST exist
(whether or not it is actually used or desired), is an
obvious security and privacy flaw in the otherwise
wonderful Linksys WRT54G router. Please fix this bug.
    Thank you very much,
    D. Hurley

  • I can't put anything into trash no permission

I turned on my old mini for the first time in over a year and can't move anything into the trash. First finder asks for a password which I give then trash won't let me. Says "cannot complete because you don't have permission to access some of the items". I went to trash>file>get info and nothing was in the read/write pull down so I pulled down my name which is an administrator, clicked it and got "could not complete an unexpected error occurred. Error message 136". Can anyone explain what the heck is going on?
I also can't figure out how to get my new password into keychain login and save it
    thanks

Hi, it sounds like you may have many problems, & it may take awile to work through them, but the new Forum SW doesn't make it easy.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
On that error... Error message 136, could it have been -36?
Well, in pure Apple File System talk... -36      ioErr      I/O error (bummers)
Not very helpful, but generally means a Drive quit being Readable or Writable since starting the operation, which is not a good sign... do you have a current Backup?

  • Why does Adobe Air Captive Runtime require Internet Access on Android?

I am developing a children's app on Adobe Air and just learned that the Internet permission is being forced by Adobe Air. The only comment I saw on these forums was from someone stating it was so the Adobe Air App can communicate to the Adobe Air package, which doesn't make much sense-- but even still, I am bundling the Adobe Air Runtime within the App itself.
This affects me because as a children's app, some of my customers (e.g. Parents) will see the requirement of an Internet connection as a bad sign, in that my app may be loading content from the internet, or collecting data about their child or device and sending it over the internet.
I think Adobe should be clear as to why their platform requires internet access. Thank you.

I have the same problem. i have tired AIRSDK 3.1 & 3.4, my app can run normal without Captive-runtime mode in my nexus s, But keep getting the message "unfortunately, (myappname) has stopped" when packed with Captive-runtime.

  • Why does Photoshop Touch for Android want permission to disable my keylock?

Yesterday I was notified by my Android tablet that there was a manual update available for Photoshop Touch. Usually I install such updates immediately, but this one gave me pause. Among the new permissions the app was requesting was this one:
    DISABLE KEYLOCK
Allows the app to disable the keylock and any associated password security. A legitimate example of this is the phone disabling the keylock when receiving an incoming phone call, then re-enabling the keylock when the call is finished.
This makes me nervous, to say the very least. Under normal circumstances I would never ever install an app that requested this permission. However, since this is an app I've been using for a while from a big company like Adobe, I'm willing to consider it. But I'd like an explanation - why is this permission needed?

I came here looking for an answer to this exact question, as the requested permission gave me pause as well.  However, I'm not satisfied by the answer.  If the permission is not required by the app, why was it not removed?  The answer suggests it may be used for a feature in the future.  In that case, I would still like to know what that is if I am being asked to grant this permission now, rather than being given the option to consider it at that time.

  • Putting Items In Trash

I listen to podcasts and also have times when I want to delete songs that I am tired of listening to. I move them to the trash can but they don't appear in the one on the launch bar. Do they get sent to another trashcan? I know it asks me of I really want to delete them.

Quit iTunes - then double click onto your Trashcan: Now the deleted items should show up.

  • Why does Firefox 33.1.1 require a User Account Control dialog before loading?

I am unable to stop FF from requiring the User Account Control dialog box before it will load. I uninstalled and reinstalled a clean copy, which worked the first time, and then re-established the UAC dialog on subsequent starts. This is incredibly annoying. It has never happened before with FF. How do I stop this behavior? I will stop using the damn program if this can't be fixed.

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
    * Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
    * "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
If you can't make the changes then you need to start Windows Explorer as Administrator.

  • Why does Maverick's Apple Maps Require WiFi for Location?

I'm connected via ethernet to my cable router. Why do I need WiFi enabled on my iMac for Apple Maps to work?
This makes no sense at all and it seems that the OS perfers to use the 54Mbps WiFi connection over my direct 1Gb cable connection. Surely this is a bug that needs to be fixed or a requirement that makes zero rational sense. The WiFi is just as connected to the exact same router as my ethernet is, if only wirelessly.
In addition, whenever WiFi is enabled, it drops the connection to my router randomly and usually during some point overnight.

  • Why does PS Elements 13 Editor require two PhotoshopElementsLive.exe apps also?

When I activate PS Elements 13 Editor, two apps of PhotoshopElementsLive.exe show as running in the Task Manager.  Each requires 35,000 K of memory while the editor uses 117,000 K.  I don't remember seeing this with PS Elements 12.  Why the need for these extra streams?

RAM or the CPU could be damaged.  Run the hardware test that came with the machine.  If unrevealing, it is more likely the RAM is bad*:

  • Why does secure empty the trash take so long to perform?

When I empty the 'secure trash' folder, it takes hours to perform what use to take seconds or minutes to do.

Try deleting less at one time.
Unless you're trying to get rid of malware/dodgy software, there's not really much point in using 'secure empty trash' if what you're worried about is someone recovering your deleted files. Experts can still recover stuff even after that.
The only way to get rid of your data securely is to overwrite the entire disk several times with zeros (Disk Utility has a function for this, and it will take a long time.).
And if its really confidential, put the disk in an incinerator or a blender , the only 100% surefire method.

  • Why does my system hang and require a power-cycle?

My macbook air just stops. The trackpad, mouse, keyboard are all inoperable. The cursor does not change to the "I am busy color wheel". We have reset the SMC controller once on a suggestion from Apple support. This happens regularly and we are getting REALLY aggravated at the lost time and data.

Not so. You use the recovery mode to reinstall Lion. Details in Recovery and About OS X Recovery. Also, see Computers using Internet Recovery.

why cant i empty my trash it says i don't have permission to access some of these items

Right click on the hard drive icon and select Get Info. (If there is no right click on your mouse, click once then type command + i - two keys together).
This is the bottom part of the pane that comes up:
    1. Click on the padlock and authenticate with your password.
    2. Look at your name and make sure it says "Read & Write. If it does not, change it by clicking on whatever is there.
    3. Click on the gear, and select "apply to enclosed items".
This will take some time. When it is done close this pane.
