Why does quicktime run like crap?

Why does quicktime run like crap, skips frames like crazy? If I install xvid codecs instead and play the movies in windows media player they play without a glitch. Why is that? I'm must say I'm not impressed with the first apple software I've tried. Also another annoying thing... I don't want iTunes and all the other crap with it! Just quicktime. Also almost all the menu's are blocked with pro upgrade.... do apple customers have to buy quicktime pro as well?

Impossible to say, "allp", without knowing anything about your system, the version of QT you're running, nor the movies you're trying to play and from what medium you're playing them. QT movies work just fine on my Dell Dimension 8200 (specific specs on request).
You can download QuickTime alone, without iTunes, here.
And yes, the menus involved with editing and exporting will almost all be nonfunctional until you buy the Pro upgrade. And it's the same with Macs as with Windows; we all have to purchase the Pro upgrade to get that functionality.

    Hi,
    Date arithmetic only works with DATEs.
    If you want to do something similar with TIMESTAMPs, use NUMTODSINTERVAL:
    SELECT  TO_CHAR ( TO_TIMESTAMP ('1/1/2012', 'DD/MM/YYYY') + NUMTODSINTERVAL (.733409047, 'DAY')
              , 'HH24:MI:SS.FF'
    FROM      dual
    ;Here's exactly what's happending:
    When you say "d + n", d is supposed to be either a NUMBER or a DATE. When you pass any other datatype, Oracle tries to convert d to either a NUMBER or a DATE. In this case, d was a TIMESTAMP; Oracle realized that it could convert that TIMESTAMP into a DATE, and did so. The 1st argument to TO_CHAR, therefore, was a DATE, but '.FF' only works with TIMESTAMPs.
    There are a couple of things about how Oracle handles this that I find annoying, but I don't know of any better work-around.

    Why does Quicktime tell me it can't play certain videos created with my Phantom 2 v3 drone ? I fly the drone and switch back and forth from video to still pics and while I may have filmed four videos , sometimes Quicktime tells me that one of them can't be played . Checking the info shows that each of the unplayed videos was saved in the same mp4 format as the playable ones yet some of my most important videos won't play . It's getting very frustrating .

    first; I use Perian, that helps even though it is no longer supported, (must have for avi files)
    the apple-cores at apple have gotten very sloppy -- quicktime is a bit finicky and flakey.
      example,   occasionally (when copy file from quad's card to hard drive)  the avi will show up as a 'mov' file and qt plays it no problem and no conversion.
    but that is very occasionally,  most of the time qt won't convert the file,   -- iMovie won't open an avi without Perian installed  ,  I don't know how that effects qt.
    qt 7"pro" is no good either, (qt 10 does everything it does and for NOT the extra $35)
    I have gone to VLC  and MPlayerX  for direct playback for drones and cameras.

  • Why does quicktime only export audio

    Why does Quicktime only export audio when exporting .mov files? I used to do it all the time with this same version. Now it doesn't work. I see a lot of other posts asking the same question and no answers.

    MOV files are audio and/or video content wrapped in an MOV file container. The first step in solving your problem would be to determine what codec components were used to create the source files and then determine if they are still supported by you current system configutation and/or conversion work flow.

  • Why does "It looks like you haven't started Firefox in a while...." message appear?

    Have been trying to remove (for the second time) the "Antivirus Security Pro" virus from this laptop (which insidiously has invaded Firefox to the extent of display several pop-ups [incl. Recommended sites list; security rating of the active webpage tab displayed; video advertisements; scroll down and enlarge the screen shot in following post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/959400]. As part of this process was instructed to shut down & power-up the laptop in Windows safe mode. Upon completing this step I opened Firefox and the following message appears at the bottom of the browser (no matter what tab is displayed): "It looks like you haven't started Firefox in a while. Do you want to clean it up for a fresh, like-new experience? And by the way, welcome back!" There is also a button "Reset Firefox..." displayed to the right of this message and an "X" which is assumed to close out this message. Why does this message appear? Had been on Firefox (while in normal mode) just prior to encountering the re-emergence of the virus attack, so am questioning the reason for this message displaying and am suspicious of it being a part of the viral threat. Am hesitant to either reset and/or uninstall/reinstall Firefox prior to running another scan with Malwarebytes, Adaware and Spybot S&D . In fact Firefox was just upgraded to v.25 two days ago (when the laptop was believed to be free from this virus as well as from the ViewMgr.exe and the AVG/vprot.exe viruses. These initial virus removals were performed in the Windows normal mode, so while awaiting a response to this question, will do the scans and perform any additional manual file/registry search and destroy in the Windows safe mode. Will also try a test run of Firefox in it's own safe mode when the removal processes are completed. Would appreciate a rapid response on whether or not to do a Firefox reset and/or removal if this second attempt at removing this virus is unsuccessful.

    The reset will not erase the virus but the reset can be done up to you.

  • Why does it run a combatability addons scan prior to opening? It's very annoying!!?

    Prior to Firefox start up it runs a add-ons compatibility scan. This occurs each time I start Firefox whether I have added add-ons or not. It should sense at the very least that I have added an add-on during the last session.
    Why does this continually occur at each start-up?

  • Dbca - what $OH/rdbms/admin scripts does it run, like catalog.sql etc.

    Hi,
    I have a database we've been using on Oracle 806. I am using dbca to create it in Oracle v9.2
    In our database creation scripts, we run the following oracle admin sql scripts. We may run more, but these are what I've found so far:
    catalog.sql
    catproc.sql
    dbmspool.sql
    prvtpool.plb
    utlexcpt.sql
    Is there a need for me to run these scripts when creating a database using dbca in v9.2, or does dbca run them?
    Thanks much
    -Bob

    Thanks you guys.
    I checked the creation scripts, and it ran these:
    connect SYS/change_on_install as SYSDBA
    set echo on
    spool /occ/cots/oracle9i/assistants/dbca/logs/CreateDBCatalog.log
    @/occ/cots/oracle9i/rdbms/admin/catalog.sql;
    @/occ/cots/oracle9i/rdbms/admin/catexp7.sql;
    @/occ/cots/oracle9i/rdbms/admin/catblock.sql;
    @/occ/cots/oracle9i/rdbms/admin/catproc.sql;
    @/occ/cots/oracle9i/rdbms/admin/catoctk.sql;
    @/occ/cots/oracle9i/rdbms/admin/catobtk.sql;
    @/occ/cots/oracle9i/rdbms/admin/caths.sql;
    @/occ/cots/oracle9i/rdbms/admin/owminst.plb;
    connect SYSTEM/manager
    @/occ/cots/oracle9i/sqlplus/admin/pupbld.sql;
    connect SYSTEM/manager
    set echo on
    spool /occ/cots/oracle9i/assistants/dbca/logs/sqlPlusHelp.log
    @/occ/cots/oracle9i/sqlplus/admin/help/hlpbld.sql helpus.sql;
    spool off
    spool off
    exit;
    So, I only need prvtpool.plb, dbmspool.sql, and utlexcpt.sql for my needs.
    I need the exceptions table for sure.
    And dmbspool.sql for memory efficiency and keeping an eye on object sizes - dbmspool.sql also calls prvtpool.plb, so it's two birds with one stone. So I'm set.
    Thanks again all

  • Why Does Bluetooth Sound Like Pure Crap in OS X?

    Using a brand new pair of Bluetooth Headphones running 4.0 with A2DP and a complete stack of other profiles.
    Headphones sound amazing on my iPhone 5 and other devices (such as my iPad and Nexus) but they sound tragic on my MB Air 10.8
    I've manually changed the Minimum Bitpool in Bluetooth Explorer from 40 to a max of 64 - nothing. Sounds terrible.
    Is OS X sending out the signal via A2DP, what's going on here? Why isn't replicating the signal from my iPhone 5 for example?
    Any ideas?

    Just a suggestion, when you set up BT it makes two devices for output, one is a mono output, the other is a stereo output.
    In the Sound applet, click the output tab and scroll down, make sure you have the stereo option selected. in mine I have MR010 and MR010 Stereo, but I have to scroll down the devices to see the stereo option.
    I hope you get it sorted out.

  • Why does quicktime does not work on os lio

    why quicktime x does not work on OS Lion

    QuickTime does work under 10.7, however you may want to check that you're opening the newest copy of it by going to your Applications folder and opening it from there.
    If you keep having trouble with opening it, please let us know what error you might be getting. QuickTime X will open with just a menu bar, then you can go to the file menu and choose to open any file you wanted to open, or choose one of the screen or audio recording options.

  • Why does IE8 running on XP and Win7 Virtual Machine deletes the history while I'm still browsing the same site with client-side hashbang routing?

    Hello,
    I have a asp.net mvc 5 web application running on .net 4.5 hosted on my local windows 8 machine on macbook pro using parallels. I'm running Internet Explorer 8 Version: 8.0.6001.18702 running on XP and Version: 8.0.7601.17514 running on Windows 7 Enterprise.
     I've got both of the virtual machine source from www.modern.ie
    My web application is attempting to provide single page user experience by having some client-side routing by using '#!/xxx' hashbangs in the url so that I can get and post via ajax and change the hash in  the url without causing the page to reload. My
    code works fine in IE9+ and other modern browsers.
    However, I'm facing this strange issue in both of the IE8 versions. When running my demo app in IE8, I can login, view home page and can navigate from this home page to many details page. From the very first login page, all the pages are the result
    of form's post action via ajax which then expects html from server and loads in the DOM. The page structure of my app is like summary form => Details page (can also contain summary forms) => Details...so on.
    The above process works fine for few of the navigation steps. If I keep navigating from one page to another & go back, I have observed that the browser back button is removing the history items slowly. And a time comes when it totally forgets about
    all the history pages that I visited to reach this current page I'm viewing!! It treats like I have just started my browsing session and this current page is the first page I've landed on with no back option. Now if I again try to navigate, I have encountered
    problems like both the back and forward buttons gets disabled.
    Hope, my words above is clear enough to explain this problem. The same application works fine in IE9+ and other browsers.
    Till now, I have tried following steps on both VMs:
    Resetting IE8.
    Increasing disk space to 1024mb for temporary internet files storage.
    Setting 'Never' for Check for newer versions of stored pages.
    Disabling the automatic crash recovery feature didn't helped in this case. Found this on support website.
    Deleted temporary files, history, cache, etc many a times.
    Search many forums, posted question on StackOverflow, ASP.NET
    Forums - but didn't helped.
    Tried 'beforeunload' event of browser to see if any of the page is reloading because of submit or any other reason. But the page doesn't reload at all.
    The issue is browser forgets about the browsing history while I'm still browsing the same site.
    Is there any possible fix for the issue above? Does IE8 have any issues as many ajax form post is happening on every page?

    I have really tried many things to identify any possible reason of the issue above. Even rewrote all my javascript navigation code and checked server-side code.
    But the only place where I got the solution is at site: http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/bugs.asp which states that there is a bug in IE8 which reads like:
     IE0012: IE Travellog broken when navigating back/away from a page with
     a large POST form If there is a form input field with a value longer
     than 523,659 characters, when you navigate away from the page, IE may
     clear the current session's travellog (similar to history), disabling
     the back and forward buttons. Repros in IE6 & IE7.
    There are following solutions that you can go for:
    - Check for the input field that has lots of characters as mentioned above and solve your problem.
    - If you have control over the system where IE8 will be used, you can add the following registry key on that machine. There is no existing key, so, you need to add a new one:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TravelLog] "MaxSize"=dword:ffffffff
    I am really relaxed to find this information as I spent really long time to solve this issue. Hope this will help someone.

  • Why does Quicktime not play this mp4 correctly

    I can create an mp4 file (recording) from Belkin's @TV app but that file will not play correctly in Quicktime (or RealPlayer or iMovie, etc.).  While the video playback seems fine, the audio plays a couple of seconds, at "chipmonk" speed, and then there is no sound out.  However, if I move the playhead to any random place in the recording I can then hear another couple of seconds of audio, as before ("chipmonk" speed), and then silence.  The VLC player will, however, play the file correctly.
    So, seeing that the file itself was not bad, I decided to try Handbrake to re-encode the recording.  And, to my surprise, Handbrake was able to handle the file correctly and produce an mp4 file that Quicktime (and the others) can play.
    I don't know enough about these mp4 files to grasp what is wrong with the original Belkin output.  The Quicktime inspector reports that the Format is
       H.264, 352 x 240
       AAC, 32000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
       FPS: 25.37
    Any ideas?  (Is there additional data I can look at about this file?)
    I'm running the current version of Mavericks and Quicktime 10.3.

    I have the equivalent for the recording's Handbrake output.  I did a file compare but there were enough differences (and I'm not a technical person) so I could not spot which of the differences mattered.  For example, I thought that the fact that there is "none listed" for the sound handler looked like an obvious clue until I saw that same thing in the Handbrake output.

  • Why does Quicktime wants to install a Dutch version of Quicktime?

    My PC is set up to work in English. Everywhere. I don't like the Dutch versions because a) they contain often more faults b) the language is (to say the least) 100% unsuited for computers. Try explaining on forums that you wanted to 'opslaan' a file :-S However - I went to the quicktime site to download the new version and out of the blue - it started to use 100% unsuited Dutch. Why can't it behave normally and communicate in English? Where can I start a download in normal plain English instead of uncomprehensible Dutch? And where did it get the idea I wanted Dutch? From my IP-address? Nice work if you're (US citizen, or even worse a chinese citizen) on the road and plug in your PC on the belgian network ... Eternally ;o) quicktime in dutch .. brrr, just the thought makes me shiver!

    you should ask this either on the bootcamp forum or on the quicktime for windows forum.
