Why does Repeater weaken my signal?

I have a new Airport Extreme 6th generation router, located on the basement. With just that router, my thermostat for my furnace reads 4 bars (strong signal). After adding an "airport express" on the far side of the main floor, it seemed to weaken the signal at times. Then I added my old 4th generation Airport Extreme on the far side of my house on the second floor. It all looked good on the Airport Utility, but in practise, the signal strength on my thermostat dropped down to a paltry 2 bars, and it seemed unexplainable. How is it that those repeaters WEAKENED the signal? I had always thought that they amplified and re-broadcast the signal. Now I discover that with the Airport Extreme 6th generation router, something else seems to be going on with the repeaters.

Wireless is a shared media.. if she is using your wireless for internet and the express is on the same network.. then only one thing can work at a time.
Is your express the dual band model. ie latest gen2.. if so you can set a different name for 5ghz.. and force one of you to use 5ghz and one to use 2.4ghz.

Building materials will degrade radio signals and in many cases kill them altogether. It's called attenuation This is true with cell, AM/FM Radio, Tv signals. Signals aren't magic. Especially if a building is surrounded by metal and concrete. Especially metal. A building with a metal roof is a signal killer.
Also calls and texts do not use the 4G signals. They use 1x. Version's 4G uses a lower frequency than 1x thus it is better able to handle going through buildings.

Since I upgraded to ios7, my iphone 5 constantly loses signal. It does so just about every 10-15 minutes. I have tried reseting my network settings, I switch to airplane mode, I do a hard reset. And nothing works. Prior to upgrading I never had this problem, now its constant. I am going to try to get a new sim card, but since this only started when I upgraded (almost the exact moment), I dont see that fixing it. I have to try to resend almost every text message, and safari pages never load. I have even been trying for days to post this question, but finally gave up and used my computer. I would really appreciate any help

Why does my Netgear wireless signal keep dropping?

We've taken our iMac in to check the Airport and they can't simulate the signal dropping. It doesn't seem to matter what we're doing. It just frequently drops it. We just turn the airport off and on once and it finds it again for a bit. This happens with our ipod as well.
Does the Netgear router not work well with Apple products? Our Dell laptop does not seem to have the same problem but we're not on it as much.
We've moved both our hardwire modem and Netgear wifi away from our cordless phone but it didn't seem to make a difference.
Any ideas?

Check for a firmware update for your router.
Make sure the router is broadcasting the Service Set Identifier < SSID >.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Why does iphone not always pick up signal in new city?

I just flew to Vegas, Phoenix and Atlanta. Each time, iphone did not acquire signal on landing for minutes (at least), but immediately picked it up when I powered down and powered back on. What is the technical reason for this, and why does turning the phone off and on help to re-establish connection? I realize this issue is not unique to iphones, but I've never understood why it happens.

Whether or not GSM signals from any cellular phone will cause a plan to crash is not the point. The point is the FAA requires devices that have not been certified by the FAA not radiate in any radio frequency. Airplane mode was designed to comply with those rules and regulations. I don't have confirmation, but comparing my battery life on a trip this last week to my mothers to back in late July the iPhone seemed to have better battery life in a No Service area. I personally suspect that after being in a No Service area for a while the iPhone will stop searching as frequently. When you power off the iPhone or put it in Airplane mode for a few minutes and then come out of Airplane mode the iPhone will search for signal.
There is a limited waiver in place for WiFi for some airlines that are experimenting with offering WiFi, but that does not extend to the GSM frequencies.

I have 5 items in my house that use my base station. It is on my top floor, and I have one G5 3 floors down. I have a wireless webcam on the second floor, and a laptop and an Airport Express on the second floor. iPod right beside the base station on the top floor. I can't move the base station.
Why do my signals shift in power like that? Seems to be a base station thing, instead of other items all shifting at once.

Any wireless networks around you can cause intermittent interference. You signal may be find in one part of the house but not in the other.
Most modern routers provide their owner's with the ability to effectively "hide" their network so you won't even see it on a normal scan for networks. If you see 5 "visible" networks, you can probably assume that there are at least 2-3 more that you cannot "see". With only 11 channels available, you are already encountering crowded airspace.
My neighbor's cordless phone...across the street...can cause "blips" in my wireless if he's in the front yard talking on his phone. In general, cordless phones cause more problems for wireless networks than other wireless networks because most of them operate on the same 2.4 GHz range as wireless networks.
I had to get rid of mine because they were causing problems with the wireless network here no matter which channel I used. But, cordless phones won't show up on a scan for networks either, so you'll have to experiment to see if you can find a nice clear channel for your wireless.
