Why does Safari take forever to open now?

For some reason Safari takes forever to open on my computer. This just started in the last week. The icon just bounces over and over until it finally stops with no triangular black arrow next to it. When I click on it again (after the initial bouncing) it slowly opens my home page. After reading all the other posts that might help my situation, I've reset Safari, checked for duplicate fonts, checked my proxies, thrown out Safari icons, etc.. Nothing seems to fix the problem. Any other suggestions?

Hi Starman
Thank you for your quick response. When I clicked the Safari icon this morning, it opened right up, so I don't know if one of the other things I tried before really did fix it or if this is just a fluke. Should I still throw out the cache in the Safari folder? I thought 'reset Safari' in the drop down menu would have already done that. Thanks for any response.

  • Since upgrading to OS 8.0.2 my ipad2 freezes, slows down, safari takes forever to open, the celluar network goes to No Service and the only way to fix it is to reboot it and this takes longer than before.  Has Microsoft taken over Apple software?

SInce upgrading to OS 8.0.2 my ipad 2 freezes, slows down, safari takes forever to open pages, cellular network goes to No Service requiring a reboot (and this takes longer than before), in summary, I now have a fancy paperweight, i used to love my ipad.  I feel as if Microsoft has taken charge of the Apple Software Division.

Sorry if someone sees this post in a different thread; Just want to get some additional exposure.. Who knows, maybe someone from Apple will take note..
The glitchy, unresponsive, slow and outright crashes are something you would expect in a less superior product.  I paid what I consider a premium because of the perceived integrity of the company and quality of their products. I am not going to go as far to say Apple ***** and so do their products; but they have to to a better job of acknowledging problems and providing recourse.  Right now, it "feels" like they don't care about existing customers.  I am not sure of the exact #'s, but I believe products like the Ipad2 represent a significant population of their existing Ipad product base.
So what is my specific rant; If Apple is going to take a long time, or worst, NOT fix the problems introduced in IOS 8 for IPAD  2, give us the option of going back to IOS 7.  I would say most everyone was extremely happy with their product running under that OS and would migrate back in a heartbeat.  By blocking this option, it feels like Apple is saying that the only recourse is to live with crappy performance, wait forever without any real news, or throw away your Ipad 2 and buy a newer model.  Right now this is 100% completely unacceptable, and I, as will thousands of others, will watch how this unfolds when we do buy new products.  Most technology products only have short, finite lifespan and I would think it is at very least very important to Apple to retain customer base in a highly competitive marketplace.  I'm done...

  • Is it better? Does it take forever to open?

The old version took forever to open because it wanted to open thumbnails of all my photos. It took a half hour. Now I use Adobe Bridge. Is the new one better? Does it open fast if you have a million hi res photos? Can you set it to open only one folder?

The old version took forever to open because it wanted to open thumbnails of all my photos.
that is a choice you made - depending on which 'old versin": you have and what your settings are this is very easy to fix - but would need to know what you have and how you have it set to tell you what to change - and if you have been using bridge to access the iPhoto library you may have corrputed yoru library rendering it unusable

  • Why does it take forever to verifiy my keychain code

When I try to verify my keychain on my Iphone 6 it takes forever to verify the code that was sent to me.  Why does this process take forever to complete?

Your title and question are two different things.
I have no idea what you are asking?
Not sure if your asking why you don't get email on your phone after you've changed the password or why the email doesn't delete when you deletee it from the computer?

  • Why does Safari always hang on opening a pdf?

This is getting very old - Safari hangs consistently on opening pdfs. It stalls and then I get the 'quit unexpectedly' error. Safari also hangs on a normal quit and stalls then comes up with the 'quit unexpectedly' error.
Does Apple not seem to know this? I have sent report after report on each hang and yet the problem is never addressed in a fix. I know many other mac users with the same issue.
Generally, I like Safari and don't want to go to Firefox, but likely will have to if these issues don't get addressed by Apple.
    Any ideas???

Given the vast majority of Mac owners do not have these problems (I must view at least 20 PDFs a day from Safari), it sounds like a configuration issue on your system.
Can you post one of the Safari crash logs, I or someone else here may be able to help you further.
Also, given this isn't actually a "Getting Online and Networking" issue, you might have more luck posting in the Safari discussion.

  • Why does it take forever to download a clip from youtube or a movie its impossible to watch

change your DNS to OpenDNS or something else
    Maybe your ISP throttles
If you use DSL and have DSL filters on phones, those things can fail and affect bandwidth and need to be replaced ($5-8)

  • Moved Files, then Installed iLife 06, GB3 takes FOREVER to open now- Help?

    Hi,
I just upgraded from GarageBand 2 to GarageBand 3. Previously, everything was on my start-up drive. When I upgraded, I moved all the files I could (loops and the like) to a media drive while keeping everything else on the start-up drive. Now, when I open GB3, it hangs and hangs, beach ball spinning, and the name of the application turns red in Activity Monitor, like it's frozen. But, it does eventually open up, after a minute or two, literally. It seems to hang when it starts loading the instruments used in the track. But it still does open and work fine! Well, not exactly fine, it also takes a lot longer than it used to to load a new instrument when I select a new one. Does anyone know what the issue may be?
Oh, and, I tried opening a file, then saving it as something different, then opening that new file, but it does the same thing.
Here's a bit more on exactly what I did that lead up to the problems--
I had iLife 05 that came with my computer. I was upgrading to iLife 06. Everything from iLife 05 was on my boot drive- that's how it came and I never changed it. I have a second drive that I use for media files (I edit video- all of those files, my itunes library, etc. is on this drive). Prior to upgrading, I wanted to move everything I could (loops and stuff like that) to the second drive. So, there's a point in the installation right before it actually installs everything- it tells you where it's going to put a bunch of folders, it gives you the path and lets you know you can put them somewhere else if you'd like (ex. "SuchAndSuch" Folder will be installed in /Library/Application Support/Garageband. If you want to, you can choose a different folder. (to paraphrase)). At this point (for each of the folders full of files that it was installing), I followed the path it gave, took the folder that was already there ("SuchAndSuch") and copied it to the second drive, I then deleted that original folder and redirected the installer to the new folder. I even duplicated the folder path, to make it easier for me to understand, so that for the example above, the new path was "SuchAndSuch" Folder will be installed in /MediaDrive/Library/Application Support/Garageband. I am certain I did this part correctly. I created the "Library", "Application Support", & "Garageband" folders-- I only actually moved that last folder and deleted it off the Boot Drive. Anyway, I was pretty sure all this was okay to do because I was only moving the original stuff it was telling me it would be updating or replacing... I hope this makes sense and might help to figure just where or where I went wrong.
I suspect there may be some small file(s) that I moved to the second drive that really should be on the boot drive- some sort of files that act as a map or something for garageband. Maybe an invisible file? ...I hate those invisible files.
**Oh wait!** I just remembered something, when I was copying those folders (like I was saying above), it did prompt me for my admin name and password! So, wouldn't that mean I was moving something, well, important? Instead of just the loops and stuff?
Let's see... other info-- I have 4.5 GB RAM, Both drives are internal, 7200 RPM. The media drive is the fuller of the two at barely over 50% capacity. I did repair permissions after the intallation. Everything else runs fine on both drives.
Anyone know what I did that messed GarageBand up? And how I may be able to fix it?
    Thanks everyone!

That's exactly what that means. If you don't have enough space on your hard drive to store all the Garageband data, either burn off to CD and DVD data you don't use frequently that belongs to you, or get a larger hard drive. You should be careful only to move files and folders which belong to you and were not installed by something else (some applications may be moved from the Applications folder, but remember they frequently may need to be returned if you update them) as my FAQ here explains:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121899
If you know what you moved and the permissions of what you moved, I'd move it back. And then repair permissions with Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility. Otherwise you may be forced to locate that which is critical to you in what you moved, and back it up first elsewhere, and then remove and reinstall Garageband. Someone in the Garageband forum may better know what's critical for Garageband to operate.

  • Safari takes forever to open a new window

Since updating to the newest version of Safari, whenever I try to open a new window, it takes about 40 seconds to do this, every time. Clicking on a link in an already open page opens much quicker, so how can this be happening since a new window doesn't have content or tries to connect to anything?
    Thanks

a new window doesn't have content or tries to connect to anything
That depends on your setting in Safari menu > Preferences > General tab. The second pop-up menu is "New windows open with". If that's set to Empty Page or Bookmarks, it should open a new window instantly. If it's set to something else, then speed is dependent on how quickly that page loads.
    Hope this helps...

  • Why does Safari's Top Sites open when I click on View in iTunes?

For some reason, whenever I click on a link in Safari that requires another application to open, (iTunes for example), now a new browser window opens to Safari's Top Sites page.  It appears to have started after the recent update. Anybody else having this problem?  Is there a solution?

From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • Why does it take forever for my tv show to load?

I am so disappointed with Apple TV.  I am a huge promoter of apple products but this one is the pits.... I can asure anyone responding to this post that it is not my network so you can take that out of the equation.  One day a show loads in 2 seconds and the next day i wait and wait and wait.... i have no hair left on my head... please someone give me the magic tocuh to get my apple tv2 to work!!!

Is this using home sharing or via the iTunes store? Please give more information, the network is the first thing to look at. If your speed is sufficient (6mbps) then it could be interference, are you using your ISP's DNS?
Need more to go on, need to know what you've tried and if you've ruled out the network then we need that detail.

It used to happen all the time in 10.5.2, I've only done it once in 10.5.3. Currently, I'm syncing after deleting the .FileSync directories. Once it is finished, I'll let you know.
